Overview: The Most and Least Effective Antidepressants

05:25
522 randomized controlled trials involving 21 antidepressants and 116,477 people were analyzed. It appears the most effective antidepressants (at a duration of 8 weeks) include amitriptyline, escitalopram, mirtazapine, paroxetine, and venlafaxine. While reboxetine and trazodone had notably lower efficacy ratings. Some of the most effective drugs had lower tolerability scores, however, indicating they may have a greater side effect burden. The antidepressant literature shows signs of potential bias, so the results have to be considered with that in mind. Mad Honey (Grayanotoxin): You Should Probably Avoid It

Overview: LSD's Subjective Effects Are Highly Reliant On 5-HT2A

04:13
LSD administration elicited significant subjective effects, such as greater meaning/relevance scores when listening to normally meaningless music. It was associated with increased activity in brain regions known to be connected to self-referential processing. The drug's key effects were largely blocked by ketanserin, a 5-HT2A antagonist, indicating that receptor site is very important for LSD's activity in humans. This paper points to receptor systems and brain regions that could be important in some psychiatric conditions that involve disrupted self-referential processing. Dipropyltryptamine (DPT): What We Know

08:57
DPT is a psychedelic tryptamine that can be as intense as DMT and 5-MeO-DMT with its peak effects. It's historically been less common than both, possibly because its effects are less comfortable for many users, particularly compared to DMT. Far less is known about the drug and it's not clear how safe it is. More negative physical effects appear to exist with it relative to DMT. It was briefly tested in therapy settings during the 1970s and 1980s. Some of the findings were promising. How to Use MDMA Safely

17:16
MDMA itself is a pretty safe substance if you know how to use it correctly. Sadly, a lot of people are unaware of the simple steps they can take to make their usage safer. In this video I discuss reagent testing (to make sure you're likely taking MDMA), the drug's acute harm potential, how often it should be used, and "neurotoxicity." PCP (Phencyclidine): What You Need To Know

PCP is a dissociative anesthetic that functions similarly to other dissociatives like ketamine. But, it does have some unique qualities. It's existed for decades and has largely been used in non-medical settings, though it was once used as a medical drug. Q&A 13 – Alcohol's Deadly Nature, MDMA vs. Methamphetamine (And More)

05:21
In this video I discuss alcohol's alleged deadly nature, the impact of psychedelics on brain development, and the differences between MDMA and methamphetamine, among other things. You can support The Drug Classroom here: http://patreon.com/thedrugclassroom 00:18 - "The world's most deadliest drug is alcohol." 01:36 - "Could you explain the difference between MDMA and methamphetamine, and whether they're similar or not. I don't feel like they're the same, although the "fried" feeling is similar." 02:52 - "We're the same age, but I stopped taking psychedelics because I'm worried about my development. Do you know the effects common psychedelics have on brain development?" 03:55 - "I don't understand why you'd take drugs for research. I mean, wouldn't you worry about it all adding up? Also, have you done scopolamine?" 04:34 - "How do you answer the common drug bro question, "Doesn't MDMA have meth in it." Alcohol (Ethanol): What You Need To Know

11:28
Ethanol, which is more often called alcohol, is the most popular recreational drug in the world. It offers depressant effects. It's not particularly dangerous when dealing with moderate use, but it can become very dangerous with acute high doses or heavy chronic use. Alcohol has a longer history than most drugs.
