Check out our latest video on this topic: https://youtu.be/e_YQO-l32Tk Tips about sea sickness (or motion sickness) and how to prevent or alleviate the symptoms. See our episode on wrist bands here: https://youtu.be/qI2MTZRvuBs Hi, I'm Sheri from CruiseTipsTV. Today we are going to talk about something that can absolutely ruin your cruise ... and we're going to give you a few tips about how to avoid it. Here's the scenario, you've subscribe to our channel, and watched all our tip videos, and ... Wait, you haven't subscribed? Well do it now then. I'll wait. Okay, so you've watched the videos and planned everything, but on your cruise you suddenly feel dizzy and nauseous, and it's getting worse. Yes, it's the most hated of hated, motion sickness. It can happen to anyone, but the common symptoms of nausea, vomiting and dizziness can generally be prevented and treated. And we've collected a few tips to help you do just that. These aren't in any specific order, and what works for you may not work for others. So, Pack and be prepared with a few options just in case. 1. We'll start with what I use occasionally - a wristband. This helps prevent symptoms from occurring. These wristbands are sold at drugstores under brand names like Sea-Band and BioBands, and they have a hard round button that gently presses against an acupressure point in your wrist, which is said to control nausea. 2. Perhaps the most common approach is over-the-counter medication containing dimenhydrinate or diphenhydramine. You'll see these marketed under several brand names, but look for those active ingredients. According to the Mayo Clinic, you should begin taking the medication half-hour to an hour before boarding. This give the medication time to work. Then continue taking it as directed by the usage instructions. 3. If you prefer a more natural approach, ginger root can be very effective. Many scientific (and not so scientific) studies have confirmed it. Our advice however, pack this (ginger candy) not this (ginger root). You can also try ginger tablets, capsules or cookies on your next cruise. It's best to start using this natural remedy at least 24 hours before you embark on your cruise. Most studies recommend ginger for mild cases, and it may not be effective in all instances. 4. The Mayo Clinic also suggests using a prescription scopolamine patch if you have experienced motion sickness in the past and haven't had success with over the counter medication. Apply the patch to the skin behind your ear. Replace it with a fresh patch every three days. Obviously it's best to discuss this with you doctor. 5. This one may not always make the most sense, but it could be effective in some circumstances. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, keeping your eyes on one fixed point reduces aggravating stimuli that can cause motion sickness symptoms. Taking a trip to the top deck on the ship and looking out at the horizon may help when you start to feel ill. Here are a couple more quick tips to remember. 1. Dehydration can make the symptoms worse, so drink plenty of water during the day. 2. Pick a cabin near the middle of the ship if you are prone to motion sickness. The motion of the ship is less noticeable in this area. The further you are away from the "motion of the ocean" the less motion you'll feel. So a midship cabin on a lower deck could be a good choice if you suffer from motion sickness. That's it for this episode. Be sure to check us out on twitter @CruiseTipsTV. Now get out there and cruise. If you like this video, please like and subscribe. And please, share our videos with fellow cruisers. We have more on the way. Until then, we'll see you on the high seas.

You've got the car packed for your next road trip, your route is planned, but that sinking feeling sets in. A queasy stomach can affect any car passenger. Car sickness results from a conflict between the eye and ear: the inner ears detect that the car is moving, but the eyes, focused within the car, do not. The brain receives conflicting signals, and nausea results, per many pediatricians. Follow these tips to avoid car sickness: 1. Choose the Right Foods -- Before and during your road trip, eat bland foods. Avoid spicy, greasy foods and alcohol consumption. Don't eat foods that have caused stomach upset in the past. Bring along crackers, ginger candy, mints, soda water and ginger ale. 2. Keep your Eyes on the Scenery -- Reading books, watching movies and playing video games can all cause or worsen car sickness. Look outside the car instead, preferably out the front window. Find a focal point and keep your eyes on that. 3. Take Short Breaks -- Give your stomach a break by stopping the car, especially if you are feeling queasy. Walk around a bit and get some fresh air. 4. Call Shotgun -- Sitting in the front seat can reduce the conflicting signals of your brain. Looking forward is better than looking out the side window because the scenery seems to fly by quickly. *Do not put car seats in the front seat or change rear-facing seats to forward. 5. Use Medication -- Try over the counter medications such as Dramamine, Benadryl or Bonine. If all else fails, get a prescription from your doctor. Be prepared for a motion sickness reaction by buying lined disposable bags. These work at home as well. Your car and other passengers will thank you. Car sickness shouldn't prevent car rides and road trips. It may take time to find the right combination of tips to help you feel better. Start with short rides, see what works and work up to longer drives. Check with your doctor for proper medical advice -- my tips are suggestions and not a substitute. Motion sickness occurs when sensors from our eyes, the things we're seeing, and little sensors in our ears and the extremities in our body all are sensing different things. When you're in the car and your body senses that you're moving, like your ears sense that you're moving, but your eyes may not see, like in the case of a child sitting in the backseat of a car and your extremities don't sense that you're moving, this all sends conflicting messages to your brain and it can make your stomach feel a little bit queasy. You mentioned that you have a little 15 month old that likes to go to Bear Lake and play and that's fun for you guys to be able to do that but it sounds like the car ride there isn't so much fun. There are things that you can do to help your child out. First of all, give him a snack before you leave because if he has an empty stomach that can actually make it worse. A lot of parents are hesitant to give their kids foods thinking they'll just throw it up but an empty stomach can make it worse, so try that. Also a cool washcloth on his forehead if nothing else is helping while you're in the car might help, so just having something handy that he can grab and put on his forehead might help. He is 15 months old though so I don't know how well that will go over. You can try to distract him, sing songs with him, talk to him, turn on music that he likes, also encourage him to look out at certain things while you're driving. If he's looking down at a book or something that will make it worse. If he is able to understand things that you're saying try to point out objects that you're passing by and this can help him because then he'll actually see that he's moving and that can make it feel better. If these things aren't helping then stop the car as soon as it's safely possible and get out and walk around with him. If just walking around doesn't help then have him lay down flat and close his eyes. Again, I know he's 15 months old but these are just typical things that help most people with motion sickness. If it's severe or if you notice that he's having issues with motion sickness at other times like when he's not in the car it's worth bringing up with the pediatrician and they can decide if further investigation or treatment is warranted. I hope that these tips help and if you have any other questions for me feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at Facebook.com/IntermountainMoms and recommend us to your friends and family too.

How to Avoid Sea Sickness on Private Yacht Charter Vacations http://www.yachtsbhc.com Call 800-478-2029 for additional information. It is your broker's responsibility to ensure that seasickness never happens. Since 1990, I have had this question asked of me many times and never had one client say they were seasick during their vacation. It is my position not to subject my clients to any open ocean crossings. This is why island hopping is so much fun. Your pick-up point sets the scene for your Caribbean yacht charter. As a captain, I would have the guests fly into and out of Beef Island, Tortola, British Virgin Islands. As soon as the guests land at the airport, I assist them with their luggage and walk them to the dock to board their vessel. Once on board, I cruise around to Marina Cay, which takes 3 minutes over calm protected water, and remain there for the first night. Water sports, snorkeling, a restaurant on the white beach and super protected anchorage means the next day guests come to me and say, "Andrew, you can take me anywhere in the world, this is perfect." Subconsciously, that motion sickness has been broken. Guests realize that the water is very calm, and they can also see all the different islands around them. But the captain has to be aware of this delicate balance he must keep during the entire trip. Bring Dramamine, wrist bands and ear patches, but do not take the Dramamine, yet; you are possibly not going to need it. Wearing the wrist bands and ear patches is fine. When guests can see all the islands around them all the time, it is a subconscious positive point. Subconsciously, this says "I can get off within 10 minutes". Sailing or cruising for 1 hour means guests are on dry land or snorkeling until lunch time, then enjoying lunch. One more hour is needed to get to their next island "IF" they wish to travel another hour or less. These island hopping Caribbean or Bahamas yacht charters on board your own private yacht can be the very best adventure of your life. If one person in your party feels they may have motion sickness, then just make sure your broker knows about this immediately. I will instruct the captain on what is to be done and make sure this delicate point is taken care of --THERE IS ZERO REASON TO BE SEASICK ON ANY BARRINGTON-HALL SAILING TRIPS OR CRUISES. DISTANCES TO TRAVEL: FYI: Your BVI sailing vacation or cruising destination is the world's number one protected cruising ground. Guests can do 2 or 3 Virgin Island charters before trying new sailing locations. Second to the British Virgin Islands is The Grenadines. St. Martin and surrounding islands have a few good months to be on charter there, but the wrong months will wreck your one week motor yacht cruising vacation. The Mediterranean has a few months to do a private yacht charter, so keep within May, June, July, August and September when planning. My favorite crewed charter yacht location in the Mediterranean is Greece, then the French and Italian Rivieras, the playground of celebrities. The Bahamas have 200 islands to explore and different directions to consider. Always consult your yacht charter broker for answers, and make sure he or she has the background needed to correctly answer your questions. As a guide, I suggest guests start with the BVI, and do 2 or 3 one week yacht charters in this location, then do the Grenadines; after the Grenadines, go to Greece. After Greece, go to St. Martin during the correct months, and then do the French and Italian Rivieras. Never do the Mediterranean before doing the British Virgin Islands. These wonderful island hopping experiences are like learning to walk -- first you crawl, then you walk, and then you can run. A smart yacht charter broker will never subject his/her guests to any open ocean crossings. The biggest mistake guests make is that they look at different islands and feel they can do many more than they can, because traveling time is never considered at the speed the normal power boat or catamaran takes to get to each island. Private motor yachts travel between 10-15 miles per hour, very slow; catamarans and sailing yachts travel at 4-10 miles per hour, and they do not travel as the crow flies; they tack with the wind, so their distance is longer. The ideal distance for a modern charter catamaran to travel in one week is between 70 and 150 miles, so that our guests enjoy the right amount of relaxation and traveling in their important charter period. Luxury power boats can do between 80 and 220 miles in one week. Yes, distance can be extended, but talk with your yacht charter broker. Not sure where you want to go or you are not familiar with the best charter locations, then call Andrew at 800-478-2029 / (954) 720-0475 or email us with all your questions. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dplenOpkUZk

Vertigo Treatment with Simple Exercises (BPPV): http://www.AskDoctorJo.com Simple Vertigo (BPPV) exercises to help treat vertigo symptoms. For more physical therapy videos or to Ask Doctor Jo a question, visit http://www.AskDoctorJo.com Doctor Jo on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/AskDoctorJo Doctor Jo on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/AskDoctorJo Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo, better known as BPPV, can literally stop you in your tracks. Make sure you are properly diagnosed because the symptoms can be something more serious and dangerous if not properly diagnosed. The first exercises are called Brandt-Daroff exercises. Start in an upright, seated position. Then move into a lying position on one side with your nose pointed up at about a 45-degree angle. Stay in this position for about 30 seconds (or until the vertigo subsides, whichever is longer). Then move back to the seated position and stay for 30 seconds. Repeat on the other side. This should be done 5 times, 2 times a day holding each position for 30 seconds. The next set of exercises are called Gaze Stabilization exercises. Keeping your head in one spot, move your eyes side to side as smoothly as you can 10 times. Then move them up and down 10 times. Next move them at a diagonal 10 times one way, and then 10 times the other way. You might get some symptoms while doing this, but if you can keep moving them, the symptoms should go away. Finally, you are going to move your head, but keep your eyes focused on one spot. Hold out your finger in front of you, or put an X or A, or any letter on a piece of paper on the wall. While focusing on the one spot, move your head side to side as smoothly as you can 10 times. Then move it up and down 10 times. Next move it at a diagonal 10 times one way, and then 10 times the other way. DISCLAIMER: This video and any related comments are not medical advice. Being lethargic, fluffed up, tucking the head under the wing, not eating, producing fewer droppings, but there are really some specific signs of illness that can be indicative of certain diseases. If you have a female bird, we are always concerned about egg laying and egg binding where a bird may not be able to pass an egg out of her system and it gets stuck inside. It could be very not obvious, too or some bird owners don't even know that they have a female bird, until they lay an egg, if you see a bird that is fluffed up and straining or passing bloody droppings or breathing rapidly, because that egg can actually push up on their airways. They don't have a diaphragm muscle between their chest and their abdomen, so anything that goes on in their reproductive tract can actually push up on their airways, their lungs. They can become very, very ill, very quickly and that's something that you would want to have checked out. What are some other illnesses that we see, Sarah? Sarah: I think some other illnesses that we see most commonly are the generalized upper respiratory infection where people will notice a nasal discharge or a sneeze in their bird or maybe they'll just be acting a little sad and they'll cough a little bit. The problem is that these upper respiratory infections can be caused by a number of different pathogens be it viral, bacterial or even fungal. And some birds are actually very susceptible to severe fungal infections that can very easily kill them. Dr. Laurie: Yeah, and we will see with several animals, certain birds the larger birds that get fungal infections tend to get them in their trachea in their upper airway. And people will come in and say, "Oh, my bird sounds really hoarse or is making sort of a squeaky sound and not vocalizing the same way." Similarly, little budgies or parakeets actually will get voice changes when they become hypothyroid. Their thyroid glands actually sit inside their chests and they can swell and push on their esophagus and on their trachea, and change their voices, and actually often lead them to throw up. So that's a very common sign we'll see. You know, we'll see a lot of changes. I mean, there are certain very specific signs. Amazon parrots when they eat lead paint will have sort of brown, muddy, reddish droppings, and we'll see some birds have neurologic problems of all kinds, when they get into toxic metals. Sarah: Absolutely, I mean we'll have birds come in seizuring and one of the first things that we think when we see seizuring or tremoring, is heavy metal toxicity. A lot of people don't think that there is a possibility for exposure to lead or zinc in their home. But you'd be surprised at how many places in your home probably have these metals. Dr. Laurie: So the take home message really is to familiarize yourself with common bird diseases. But most of all, have a relationship with a bird veterinarian that knows your bird and you can call on that person when you suspect illness in your bird.

Ginger or ginger root is the rhizome of the plant Zingiber officinale, consumed as a delicacy, medicine, or spice. It lends its name to its genus and family (Zingiberaceae). Other notable members of this plant family are turmeric, cardamom, and galangal. The distantly related dicots in the Asarum genus have the common name wild ginger because of their similar taste.According to the American Cancer Society, ginger has been promoted as a cancer treatment "to keep tumors from developing", but "available scientific evidence does not support this". They add: "Recent preliminary results in animals show some effect in slowing or preventing tumor growth. While these results are not well understood, they deserve further study. Still, it is too early in the research process to say whether ginger will have the same effect in humans." In limited studies, ginger was found to be more effective than placebo for treating nausea caused by seasickness, morning sickness and chemotherapy, although ginger was not found superior to placebo for pre-emptively treating post-operative nausea. Some studies advise against taking ginger during pregnancy, suggesting that ginger is mutagenic, though some other studies have reported antimutagenic effects. Other preliminary studies showed that ginger may affect arthritis pain or have blood thinning and cholesterol lowering properties, but these effects remain unconfirmed. The traditional medical form of ginger historically was called Jamaica ginger; it was classified as a stimulant and carminative and used frequently for dyspepsia, gastroparesis, slow motility symptoms, constipation, and colic. It was also frequently employed to disguise the taste of medicines. Some studies indicate ginger may provide short-term relief of pregnancy-related nausea and vomiting.Studies are inconclusive about effects for other forms of nausea or in treating pain from rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, or joint and muscle injury. Side effects, mostly associated with powdered ginger, are gas, bloating, heartburn, and nausea.Precautions The use of herbs is a time-honored approach to strengthening the body and treating disease. Herbs, however, can trigger side effects and interact with other herbs, supplements, or medications. For these reasons, herbs should be taken with care, under the supervision of a health care provider qualified in the field of botanical medicine. It's rare to have side effects from ginger. In high doses it may cause mild heartburn, diarrhea, and irritation of the mouth. You may be able to avoid some of the mild stomach side effects, such as belching, heartburn, or stomach upset, by taking ginger supplements in capsules or taking ginger with meals. People with gallstones should ask their doctor before taking ginger. Make sure to tell your doctor if you are taking ginger before having surgery or being placed under anesthesia for any reason. Pregnant or breastfeeding women, people with heart conditions and people with diabetes should not take ginger without asking their doctors. Vomiting is very embarrassing for all of us. I am showing a very simple cheap natural home remedy for permanent cure or stopping vomiting while one use to travel in a car performing a long journey. Take one medium size onion & a piece of garlic as shown in the video & peel both of them & take out the juice & mix it properly using a mixer grinder or anything you find suitable. Now drink it half an hour before you go for a long drive on your car also remember to use a mouthwash or a mouth refresher because the smell of onion is going to disturb all around you & may prompt your friends to vomit on your body. To get instant relief from insect bite such as wasp, hornet, honeybee, etc one can apply onion juice on the bitten areas. Try it & get relief naturally.
