Thin cords or thick cord can be seen and felt in the armpit and down the arm. These develop in the early days after breast cancer surgery.. If we can have a better understanding of how these form, then we can use the most effective treatments to make them "go away". Other names for this problem are axillary web syndrome and cording. With sufficient treatment, these should disappear over time. Denise Stewart, an Occupational Therapist at a Breast Cancer Center in Brisbane, explains cording and treatment options.

When Sharon O'Malley of Plymouth learned the results of her mammogram, she thought she was cancer free. But after a self exam six months later, that was no longer the case. Still, O'Malley wasn't alarmed at first. "I thought 'ahh, it's probably scar tissue'"said O'Malley. But she didn't chance it. She went back to the doctor to have the lump checked out. "They did another biopsy, sent it away and I got a call from the doctor saying it was breast cancer," said O'Malley. The cancer had advanced to Stage 2, Level 2. Doctors consider her case extremely rare. Medical practitioners say getting a mammogram is still the best way to detect breast cancer. "It's an outstanding tool and has probably has reduced the morbidity of breast cancer in the this country by several folds," said Dr. Natarajan Raman, oncologist at Hennepin County Medical Center. When O'Malley's cancer was diagnosed, mammograms weren't as good as they are today, Raman said. Digital mammograms now give doctors a better image of the breast. Digital imaging is something O'Malley wishes she had when she was diagnosed. "I had two surgeries, and 37 weeks of radiation," she said. Today, O'Malley is doing fine as a nine-year cancer survivor. Statistics show one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. O'Malley believes that's reason enough to do self exams. "You should not just rely on the mammogram. Do self exams. And if you think anything is questionable at all, don't be afraid to go get it checked out." October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and O'Malley is participating in the upcoming Breast Cancer Awareness Association Education Conference. Experts will talk about the latest treatments. There's also a fashion show featuring breast cancer surivors. Sharon O'Malley is one of the survivors walking the runway. The event will be held at the Minneapolis Convention Center on Saturday, Oct. 12. Fascia treatment is described in detail, to help women understand the nature of gentle treatments to improve the body's tight (but should be soft) tissue. Often the term used for tight tissue on the chest is .... scar tissue or radiotherapy fibrosis. Again, often, the woman is told to learn to live with this.

http://EatingForAbs.com http://Facebook.com/EatingForAbs We want you to stick around for a while, so that means minimizing your risk by changing behaviors that contribute to negative outcomes. In this case were talking about breast cancer. Here is an excerpt from the Mayo clinic on a few key behaviors that will help us steer away from breast cancer risk. If you're concerned about breast cancer, you may be wondering if there are steps you can take toward breast cancer prevention. Some risk factors, such as family history, can't be changed. However, there are lifestyle changes you can make to lower your risk. -Coach Be #breastcancer #cancer #nutrition #prevention #eatingforabs #e4a What can I do to reduce my risk of breast cancer? Lifestyle changes have been shown in studies to decrease breast cancer risk even in high-risk women. The following are steps you can take to lower your risk: Limit alcohol. The more alcohol you drink, the greater your risk of developing breast cancer. If you choose to drink alcohol — including beer, wine or liquor — limit yourself to no more than one drink a day. Don't smoke. Accumulating evidence suggests a link between smoking and breast cancer risk, particularly in premenopausal women. In addition, not smoking is one of the best things you can do for your overall health. Control your weight. Being overweight or obese increases the risk of breast cancer. This is especially true if obesity occurs later in life, particularly after menopause. Be physically active. Physical activity can help you maintain a healthy weight, which, in turn, helps prevent breast cancer. For most healthy adults, the Department of Health and Human Services recommends at least 150 minutes a week of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity weekly, plus strength training at least twice a week.
