Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy Video - Brigham and Women's Hospital

09:49
Weight loss surgery performed by laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, for morbidly obese patients, is demonstrated by Dr.Scott Shikora, Director Metabolic Health and Bariatric Surgery at Brigham and Women's Hospital. During the weight loss surgery, the outer crescent of the stomach is removed, leaving behind a stomach shaped like a tube which can hold three to five ounces of food. Patients lose 50 to 65% of excess body weight and experience other health benefits including a reduction in blood pressure and less joint pain. The Center for Metabolic Health and Bariatric Surgery (CMHBS) at Brigham and Women's Hospital is a full service, comprehensive Level 1A Center of Excellence accredited Bariatric Center with the American College of Surgeons. Weight Loss Journey: Episode 2 - Surgery Day

02:49
Alegent Creighton Health Weight Management Program http://www.alegentcreighton.com/weightmanagement The day was finally here. Tara Gustin was just hours away from finding her old self; the girl who wasn't consumed with weight...the girl who wasn't consumed with food. "I am really ready this has been a long process and I am very ready," Tara said. Tara Gustin's story is like so many others. She would lose a few pounds only to gain a few more. When a doctor told her she was morbidly obese, Tara decided the years of yo-yo dieting would end with laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery. The Alegent Creighton Health Weight Management Center at Immanuel Medical Center helped her get ready -- mentally and physically - for the surgery. "You have to be mentally prepared for it to be a life changing event. It has to be something you can live with from here on out. I don't expect to have the surgery then go back to eating burgers and French fries...that would be pointless. You have to be ready to give up the things that get you to this point," Tara said. Before Tara is wheeled back for surgery, she thinks about how far she's come -- how long she's wanted to do something about her weight. "I was scared to death yesterday. I think I got past that. Today I am ready. I don't think I've ever been this excited to go into surgery," Tara said. Alegent Creighton Health bariatric surgeon Dr. Tom White performed Tara's surgery. Laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery is where the digestive system is rewired -- reducing a stomach the size of a football to something closer to an egg. The surgery doesn't take long and the patient is home within a couple of days. Tara knows it won't be without pain but she's ready for the transformation. "I'm excited - this is a new beginning - the first day of my new life," Tara said.

Weight loss surgeon has 11 lawsuits, no one knows

02:42
Paul was told he'd be discharged within 2 days of his gastric-bypass surgery, but he was in a coma for two months and hospitalized for more than six months. A leak during surgery was not detected, and Paul quickly became septic, had several strokes, and lost the use of both of his legs, his right arm, and his right eye is entirely blind. Like six other patients before him, Paul sued the surgeon who operated on him. That surgeon is currently defending his 11th lawsuit and is free to continue practicing despite these lawsuits. Docnosis.com was designed to let you find out about these patterns of lawsuits before surgery—instead of finding out the way Paul did.

Quick FAQs What Vitamins Are You Taking Post (VSG) Weight Loss Surgery

05:39
This Frequently Asked Question addresses the need to take vitamins and calcium post-op weight loss surgery. How to pick'em and why you need'em. My surgeon wanted me on a multivitamin, calcium and B12 post-op. His office carries the Bariatric Advantage brand of vitamins, but said any good brand of multivitamins were suitable post-op. Just be sure to wait a few hours between taking a multi with Iron and calcium. Iron inhibits the absorption of calcium. Weight Loss Journey: Episode 6 - Six Months After Bariatric Surgery

04:26
Alegent Creighton Health Weight Management Program http://www.alegentcreighton.com/weightmanagement Tara Gustin - a success story. It's been 6 months since she changed her life with laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery. "I'm down about 70 pounds. It's been challenging at times but yet the biggest blessing that has occurred to me in many years," Tara said. The blessings started when Tara made up her mind to go to the Alegent Creighton Health Weight Management Center at Immanuel Medical Center. Before that, she spent years playing the weight game -- you know a few pounds off -- a few more on. Now she is moving more and eating less. "It's an adjustment. It takes time to wrap your head around the fact that life is completely different but you know it's so been worth it. I think the thing that makes it the easiest is that I'm not hungry. I've not had one day, since surgery, where I've been hungry. Before surgery, I was always hungry; I could never get full," Tara said. Now Tara eats about a half cup of food per meal. She's pushed that a little and her body let her know to back off. Tara's food struggles, immediately after surgery, had a lot to do with old habits and trying to break them. "It's a struggle in the beginning, not every day, but some days are hard especially when you're not used to eating such small portions. You still have head hunger -- you think you need to go eat or you can eat a lot of food and then you realize you can't. The hardest part has been adjusting to life not having it surround food," Tara said. Tara also had to figure out her protein intake. When she didn't take in enough, she started losing hair. The more protein she eats the less hair she loses. There's another side effect she didn't count on but this one is a bonus...her family is also getting in on the weight loss game. "My hubby lost 25 pounds. He's done very well. My daughter makes healthier choices. My son goes to the gym more than he did before. We are all working together on it and that makes it easier for me," Tara said. If you ask Tara she will tell you the last 6 months have been a blessing for she and her family. She doesn't have to take the medication she used to. Her blood sugar is great. Her blood pressure is great. Her cholesterol is great. But even more importantly life is GREAT. Tara is no longer defined by the number on the scale or the tag on the clothes. Now it's all about how she feels and she feels great! "I think back to how I felt before. My back ached; I was tired all the time and irritable. I was miserable. I didn't want to look in the mirror. I didn't want to get up in the morning. I just wanted to hang out and hide. Now I'm all about let's go, let's do, let's enjoy life, let's enjoy each other," Tara said. And that's exactly what she's doing.

Preparing for Liquid Phase after Gastric Bypass Surgery

12:33
I wanted to do this video to show some of the items I bought for the first phase after surgery which is all clear liquids. I am not completely done but I got most of what I need. I also wanted to speak on my main reason for doing this. Not only is it for myself but for my loved ones. I now have mild sleep apnea but Diabetes also runs in my family. I want to regain control of my weight before I become diabetic, because I want to be able to live a healthy life. I want to be around for a long time and this is only the push to a new life I a committed to live. So I thought I would address it since I didn't in my last video.

Journey to Weight Loss: A Bariatric Surgery Video Diary - Entry #4

03:01
Most people would never think of surgery as one of their birthday wishes. But for her April 1 birthday, that's exactly what West Islip resident Elyse Capozza wanted -- and what she got when bariatric surgeon Jonathan Klonsky, MD, an affiliated surgeon at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, confirmed that he will perform gastric sleeve surgery on her on April 17. At her six month check up on her 26th birthday, Elyse completed the final step to receive approval for bariatric surgery. "Having a date set for my gastric sleeve procedure has made my choice to have bariatric surgery a reality. Let's do it now. I am ready to change my life forever," said Ms. Capozza. Ms. Capozza is prepared for the hard work and commitment required after surgery in order to be successful in reaching her goal weight. She must follow a stringent diet and exercise plan and stay focused on getting healthy. Part of the plan is to continue to participate in Good Samaritan's bi-monthly bariatric support group, where members often encourage one another. "I am an organized person and want to commit to the weight-loss plan to the best of my ability in order to be able to change my life for the better. I am looking forward to the challenge," said Ms. Capozza. Follow Ms. Capozza's weight loss journey and hear her share her thoughts and feelings in a video diary posted at www.goodsambariatricsurgery.com. Updates will be posted bi-weekly.

Immediate shipping! http://www.amazon.com/shops/peevedpet Be Blessed! Music is provided Royalty-Free from Kevin MacLeod of incompetech.com. Thanks, Kevin! Points talked about in this video: Why I wouldn't recommend Lapband Surgery 1) Productive burps - You'll experience this shortly after starting to eat solid foods. A productive burp happens when something you have eaten gets stuck. Sometimes it doesn't matter how well you have chewed or how little you have swallowed. What happens when you get stuck is your body creates a large amount of mucus. It is your bodys way of trying to expell the food that is stuck anywhere between your throat and your band. You may hear people with a lapband talking about productive burps and just brush it off - thinking that you can handle it, its no big deal, you can beat it or find a way around it once you get the surgery. DONT be nieve. 100% of people who have a lapband have experienced productive burps. More banders than not have painful productive burps every single day. What does it feel like? To me, it felt like I was having a panic attack. All of the blood rushed to my face and I got cold sweats. You will IMMEDIATELY need to rush to the restroom to throw up. You won't feel relief until you do. If you are at a restraunt when this happens, there is no discreet way around this. If you choose to sit in your chair and do nothing, there will be a sharp pain in your throat and you will begin foaming at the mouth. I don't know anyone who would be able to sit through a productive burp. Remember, these are frequent. Numerous band adjustments: What you may not know is, the band will not work for you immediately or even six months from now. It might not even start working for another year or it could NEVER work. Doctors who install lapbands usually start the band off with no liquid and ask that you come in for frequent visits to place very small amounts of liquid into your band. Different people need different fill amounts. There is no telling at what level you will start to feel restriction. And honestly, you may never get to feel that feeling of a 'sweet spot,' which is slang for the perfect fill to keep you restricted, without having too much restriction. Be aware that your sweet spot will change at some point in the future. You will never be done with doctor visits. This is something you will deal with for the rest of your life. 3) No emergency room will touch you if you are having a band issue out of doctors office hours. I remember getting a fill that was too full. I thought it would be great. In the office the nurse who did my fill gave me a cup of water and I was able to take a few sips and feel "something" like restriction. It wasn't until that night that I feel I almost died or at least I know I wanted to die so that I was out of my misery. I couldn't even swallow my own saliva without having a productive burp and puking. I forced myself to drink water because I physically felt that I was dying. I was so dehydrated and ill. I called all the emergency rooms to see if they had anyone available to take fluid out of my band. They said they didn't, and to top it off, they wouldn't even give me an IV for fluids - being that I was so dehydrated. I lost 6 pounds in 15 hours. If I had gotten my fill on a Friday when the doctors office is closed on the weekends, I would have likely died because no emergency room would touch me. That may shock you, but that's reality! 4) Band complications - this goes without saying. I had a complication with my band and chose to not have it replaced with another band or another weight loss surgery. Links are Amazon Affiliate

Bariatric Surgery in India has been life changing for me!

00:43
The lady from United States of America, had been struggling with morbid obesity, and without an insurance cover, getting the surgery done in USA was prohibitively costly for her. She was well read and was aware of the risks which come along with obesity, and wanted to get the bariatric (weight loss) surgery done as soon as possible. She was bold and courageous enough to look for cheap surgery options abroad. This is when while searching the internet she came across IndiCure in India and sent a message for checking on cheap options. Within a week's time, plans for her bariatric surgery in India was finalised. After a successful weight loss surgery in India, this is what she has to say to IndiCure team - "I came to India for bariatric surgery. IndiCure was the group that contacted me, helped me find all right decisions, places to go, and choices of hotels, made the whole process extremely easy for me. My experience here was without any incidences and I can say that its life changing and I am so grateful to both IndiCure, India and Nova Speciality Surgery" For more information and plan weight loss (bariatric) surgery in India, visit - http://www.indicure.com/weight-loss-surgery.htm http://indicurecosmeticsurgery.co.uk/weight-loss/index.php http://indicurecosmeticsurgery.com/surgery/weight-loss-surgery.htm

Marc Zerey, M.D. Discusses Weight Loss

03:29
Hi my name is Marc Zerey. I am a Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgeon here at Sansum Clinic. I've been here for over five years. Previous to being in Santa Barbara, I trained in Carolina's Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, where I specialized in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery. At the Sansum Clinic, I perform most of my procedures laparoscopically through small incisions and I have a particular interest in weight-loss surgery, also known as Bariatric Surgery. There's an epidemic of obesity in our country and a lot of the medical problems we face have been associated with obesity. For patients who are severely obese, no treatment has been shown to be superior to weight-loss surgery to assure durable weightloss. By losing the weight, you can often cure these medical problems associated with obesity, such as high blood pressure, type-2 diabetes, and high cholesterol.

Anji's Before & After: Vegan Weight Loss

10:22
Anji of Happy Healthy Vegan shares her complex journey transitioning from going vegetarian in the mid 1980's, to vegan, to gourmet raw, and then 80-10-10 high carb, low fat vegan. She details how her relationship with longtime partner, Ryan, figured into her dietary choices and how those choices affected her health and weight. Watch as Anji goes from a 115 lb teen, to a 120 lb 30 year old, to a 140 lb 40 year old and then finally to the 110 lb 45 year old woman she is today. Not only did she regain her figure, but her youthful looks, with a lessening of the puffiness from her face and darkness around her eyes. Anji gives a photographic history of her actual diet alongside her body and facial changes, which helps illustrate her story in a compelling way. Her lesson is that processed food, oils, and salts can damage your health, but learning to go without them and switching to a healthy whole foods diet of fruit and vegetables can reverse this damage. Dr. McDougall describes why it's so easy for vegans to get fat by eating too many high fat processed foods such as oils and vegan cheeses. http://www.drmcdougall.com/misc/2008nl/dec/fat.htm Read more about Dr. McDougall: http://www.drmcdougall.com/about.html Music: "Sleight of Hand" by Anji Bee from her debut solo album 'Love Me Leave Me'.
