6 Early Signs of Liver Damage: Symptoms To Know. When a liver is working well, it cleans the blood, helps digest food and fights infection. It is also a bit of a bodily superhero — much like Wolverine and Deadpool, it has the power to regenerate when it has been damaged, replacing old tissue with new cells. “Anything that keeps your liver from doing its job — or from growing back after injury — may put your life in danger,” the American Liver Foundation warns. That can be inflammation, scarring, cancer or even using too much Tylenol. Although the liver lies on the inside of the body, the body shows outward signs when something is wrong. Turning yellow Your skin and the whites of your eyes could turn yellow when the liver isn’t working properly, due to a buildup in the blood of a yellowish substance called bilirubin, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine. The U.K.’s National Health Service adds that the yellowing symptom, called jaundice, can occur when the liver’s damage prevents it from processing that bilirubin. Common causes of that kind of liver damage are hepatitis, cancer, drinking too much alcohol, abusing ecstasy, exposure to toxic substances and various infections. Pee and poop Jaundice also changes the color of urine and stool, making the urine dark and the stool pale, the National Health Service explains. Itch The Mayo Clinic lists liver disease as an underlying cause of itchy skin, as well as kidney failure, thyroid problems and cancer. “The itching usually affects the whole body. The skin may look otherwise normal except for the repeatedly scratched areas.” Bruises People with liver damage will bruise or bleed more easily because their liver has slowed or stopped production of proteins that are necessary for blood clotting, the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases says. The liver actually produces several clotting factors, all of which begin to disappear in people with damage to that organ. Swelling When the liver isn’t able to do its job, people may start to retain water in their abdomens and legs, causing swelling, according to the Mayo Clinic. No signs In some cases, there just isn’t any indication that something is going wrong. The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics warns that up to half of those with liver disease show no signs. And in the cases that mild symptoms present themselves, the most common ones “are very nonspecific and they include fatigue or excessive tiredness, lack of drive, occasionally itching.” Once a person progresses beyond those early symptoms, the damage to the liver and the side effects become more serious. The American Liver Foundation explains people may have the blood vessels leading to their livers burst, toxins could build up in their brains and interfere with mental function, and they could experience nausea and diarrhea. “As liver failure progresses, the symptoms become more serious,” the foundation says. “The patient may become confused and disoriented, and extremely sleepy. There is a risk of coma and death.” At that point, a liver transplant may be the only option, so it’s important to try to identify the signs of liver damage early. Ep 69 Tylenol vs Motrin

10:01
Source: https://www.spreaker.com/user/simplehealthradio/ep-69-tylenol-vs-motrin On this episode of Simple Health Radio, Dr. Emran discusses the differences and similarities between Tylenol and Motrin. Tylenol and Motrin are pain relievers and fever reducers but belong to different drug classes. Tylenol is an analgesic that temporarily relieves minor aches and reduces fevers. Motrin is a non-steroid anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to relieve mild to moderate pain and reduce swelling. Tylenol’s active ingredient in the US is Acetaminophen and in foreign countries, it is called Paracetamol. Motrin is also known as Ibuprofen or Advil. To determine the proper dose, both medications require a calculation based on weight using milligrams to kilograms. The weight in pounds is first converted to kilograms either by a rough estimate (ex. 20lbs. divided by half equals 10kg) or the accurate calculation (divide pounds by 2.2). The recommended dosage of Tylenol is 15mg per kg while Motrin is 10 mg per kg. For example, if a child weighs about 20 lbs, the weight in kg is about 10 kg. For Tylenol, the final dose would be 150mg while Motrin, the final dose would be 100mg. It is recommended to take both medications with food as it will be much easier on the stomach. When it comes to which medication to use for fever, it really depends on the age of the child and their past responses. In children, Tylenol is generally safer, especially for infants and newborns, due to the minimal side effects. Motrin can be used, but it’s best to wait until the child is at least six months or older.  Pregnant women should only use Tylenol as it is metabolized in the liver and has no side effects on the developing baby. Motrin is not safe in pregnancy as it can cross the placenta and cause side effects on the newborn. Tylenol is metabolized in the liver, so there are cases where people can develop liver problems by overdosing. Motrin in children and adults can cause severe side effects. Overuse can increase stomach acid leading to gastritis and stomach ulcers. Motrin can also cause permanent damage to kidneys. Some over the counter medications such as a cough and cold medications actually have Motrin or Tylenol in high doses already in them.  To avoid overdosing on either medication, be sure to notify your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medication. This includes any vitamins, herbal products, or over the counter medications. To keep you and your family safe be sure to download Dr. Emran’s chart on dosage amounts.   References: https://www.rxlist.com/motrin_ibuprofen_vs_tylenol_acetaminophen/drugs-condition.htm https://www.unitypoint.org/livewell/article.aspx?id=915d8982-a92e-411e-b5dc-c40e0f43f352 Follow Simple Health Radio on: Twitter Instagram Facebook Pinterest Spotify Itunes Spreaker   If you think you may have a medical emergency, call 911 immediately. Foods That Damage the Liver | Liver Damage Signs

http://liverdisease.blogstips.org/ Foods That Damage the Liver | Liver Damage Signs Foods that damage the liver include fast food and highly processed foods that tend to be extremely high in sodium, sugar, and chemicals that are not liver friendly. Eating foods that damage the liver can lead to serious health problems. esides food, a number of other substances should be avoided when trying to maintain a healthy liver. Caffeine, soda, and alcohol all contribute to poor liver function, but alcohol is the number-one culprit when it comes to liver damage. Alcohol can cause cirrhosis, one of the most severe liver diseases, by permanently destroying liver cells. This is not an easy thing to do either, because the liver can naturally regenerate itself. Up to 75 percent of the liver can be removed, and within a few weeks the missing cells will return and the liver can function normally again. Eating healthy food for the liver is one of the best ways to prevent liver damage. Fresh fruits and vegetables contain powerful antioxidants that help the liver do its job and keep it clean. Cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower contribute to good liver health, as do high-fiber foods such as apples, brown rice, and strawberries. Garlic and onions provide a number of health benefits, and they can also be a flavorful salt substitute. The downside(s) of NSAID use. According to the National Institutes of Health, nearly 50 million American adults have chronic pain or severe pain. The conventional medical model teaches us to reach first for medication to relieve pain, with ibuprofen and other NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) at the top of the list. It is after all a pretty realistic expectation. Have Pain. Get rid of Pain. Done. However, with research mounting to show NSAIDs have a notable list of dangers, it makes sense instead to look for the root causes of pain and not just cover up the end result of whatever imbalance is causing your pain. Many people turn to NSAIDs for relief from pain and inflammation. Common NSAIDs are ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) and naproxen (Aleve). Celecoxib (Celebrex), diclofenac (Cataflam, Voltaren) are prescription NSAIDs. Aspirin is an NSAID, but it does not pose the same risks for stroke and heart attack. Ibuprofen is metabolized by the liver, and can cause lesions, liver failure, or jaundice over time. The FDA has even warned against NSAIDs because they increase the risk of heart attack and stroke. NSAIDs promote leaky gut Another reason to avoid NSAIDs is their tendency to promote leaky gut, as I’ve mentioned before in some of my other blogs. In leaky gut, the lining of the small intestine becomes damaged and overly porous, allowing undigested food, bacteria, yeast, and other pathogens into the bloodstream. This triggers inflammation and pain throughout the body — the same thing people use NSAIDs to relieve, creating a vicious cycle that can be very difficult to get off. So, if the typical go-to medications for pain aren't an option any more, where do we turn? Functional medicine offers solutions. Address inflammation to root out pain When pain is treated with NSAIDs, it typically comes back when the medication runs out. However, in functional medicine the goal is to identify and address the cause of the inflammation and pain instead of simply putting a temporary Band-Aid on it. It’s understandable to want relief so you can feel and function better. The good news is many people find their chronic pain diminishes substantially or disappears completely when they adopt functional medicine strategies. So let me be clear on this. I’m NOT saying that functional medicine will fix all your pain problems. BUT, what I am saying is that the entire body is connected. If you have some sort of chronic pain it often becomes a vicious cycle of pain = inflammation = pain = and on and on. By addressing where that additional or extra inflammation is coming from we can often relieve or at least significantly reduce the amount of chronic pain you are in. It eve applies to acute injuries as well. If you body is balanced and has little inflammation prior to an injury, when you do get injured you will heal much faster. Following are a few ways functional medicine can relieve pain and inflammation: Anti-inflammatory diet. Remove foods that trigger inflammation, such as gluten, dairy, grains, legumes, eggs, sugar, and nightshades. This is typically done as an elimination and reintroduction protocol where you follow the diet strictly for a period of time and then customize it depending on your food sensitivities. This customization is generally done with Food allergy (IGE antibodies) and food sensitivity/intolerance (IGG antibodies) testing. Note: not all tests are created equally. Don’t just pick the cheapest or quickest test. Otherwise your results may not mean too much. Check out the Cyrex Array 10 on our Functional Medicine testing page. I will also put some links in the description below. Check em out! Avoid nightshades. Vegetables in the nightshade family can cause pain and inflammation in the joints. These include eggplant, potatoes (but not sweet potatoes or yams), peppers, tomatoes, tomatillos, hot pepper products and pepper-based spices. Simply removing nightshades from the diet has brought relief from joint pain for many, especially those with rheumatoid arthritis. But keep in mind this doesn’t mean everyone will benefit from this. It’s on a case by case basis. Results may vary. Yada, yada yada.

Vista Statistics - 10 Reasons to Love your Liver

02:26
Title: 10 Reasons to Love Your Liver The liver is one of the most amazing organs in the body! This powerhouse organ is your body’s main detoxification control centre, but it’s often overlooked in Western medicine. We hope these statistics will help you better understand why supporting the liver should be high on your priority list this year. Your lovely liver is the largest organ in your body (well, besides your skin); about the size of a football! This organ of detoxification deserves to be understood and supported—especially during and after a season of major holiday indulgences! It works by processing nutrients and toxins from your digestive organs into substances that will be passed back into your blood or released by the bowel or kidneys. It’s your body’s main filtration system. Think of it like your own internal engine for natural detoxification. Need some information to help you love your liver a little better? Look no further. The liver is the only organ in the body that can completely regenerate itself and it only needs 25% of itself to do so The liver cleanses your blood by metabolizing and neutralizing alcohol and other drugs and toxic chemicals. Your liver produces bile which carries toxics wastes away from your body and aiding in digestion (especially of fats) Manufactures many important proteins, including the ones that help us fight infections. Converts excess glucose (sugar) in the blood into a form of storage called glycogen which can later be used for energy. The liver functions best when you get plenty of antioxidants like C, E, and beta-carotene vitamins; zinc and selenium minerals; and B-vitamins that help support alcohol metabolism Drinking 6-8 glasses of water a day helps to boost the liver’s detoxifying powers and rid the body of waste Acetaminophen (Tylenol) overdose is the leading cause of acute liver failure Several studies indicate that substances in milk thistle could protect the liver from toxins, including medications like Tylenol Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is the most common liver disease in Canada, affecting over 7 million people To learn more about non-alcoholic fatty liver disease visit www.vistamagazine.ca? ABNORMAL LIVER ENZYMES Symptoms, Causes & Treatments

04:07
ABNORMAL LIVER ENZYMES Symptoms, Causes and Treatments OVERVIEW Abnormal Liver Enzymes or Elevated liver enzymes may indicate inflammation or damage to cells in the liver. Inflamed or injured liver cells leak higher than normal amounts of certain chemicals, including liver enzymes, into the bloodstream, which can result in elevated liver enzymes on blood tests. The specific elevated liver enzymes most commonly found are: • Alanine transaminase (ALT) • Aspartate transaminase (AST) • Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) • Gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT) Elevated liver enzymes may be discovered during routine blood testing. In most cases, liver enzyme levels are only mildly and temporarily elevated. Most of the time, elevated liver enzymes don't signal a chronic, serious liver problem. SYMPTOMS People with elevated liver enzymes may not have any symptoms in the case of NASH, early alcoholic liver disease or chronic hepatitis B or C. If acute liver disease causes elevated liver enzymes, symptoms may include fatigue, nausea, vomiting, upper right quadrant abdominal pain and tenderness, loss of sex drive, mental changes or itching. CAUSES Many diseases and conditions can contribute to elevated liver enzymes. Your doctor determines the specific cause of your elevated liver enzymes by reviewing your medications, your signs and symptoms and, in some cases, other tests and procedures. More common causes of elevated liver enzymes include: • Over-the-counter pain medications, particularly acetaminophen (Tylenol, others) • Certain prescription medications, including statin drugs used to control cholesterol • Drinking alcohol • Heart failure • Hepatitis A • Hepatitis B • Hepatitis C • Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease • Obesity TREATMENT A healthy diet can work wonders on the liver, just like how a bad diet can harm it. When we consume fatty foods and alcohol, these get processed in the liver, making it work harder. When we eat liver-friendly foods, the liver doesn’t have to work as hard and can continue to keep us healthy. If you want a healthy liver and want to reduce elevated liver enzymes, cut down on your alcohol intake, or eliminate it completely. Stay away from processed, fatty, and sugary food items as these weigh heavily on the liver. Red meat, spices, and oil should also be limited, as these, too, can impact the liver negatively. You can also adjust your diet to help lower your liver enzymes. Make sure you drink enough water. Below is a list of foods you should incorporate into your diet in order to lower elevated liver enzymes. • Foods high in antioxidants • Foods high in fiber • Leafy green vegetables • Cruciferous vegetables Avoid foods that can harm your liver. Instead, opt for fruits and vegetables and lean sources of protein. Eating healthy can help lower elevated liver enzymes and protect your liver in the long run.

9 Things that can hurt your liver.Find more about this article here https://wp.me/p9sbDH-ku

Abstract the original article: Your liver is the largest organ in your body, and it has some equally big responsibilities: filtering the body’s blood, processing nutrients, helping to fight infection, producing proteins you need for blood clotting, and much more. But all these jobs mean your liver is vulnerable to assault on multiple fronts. If it becomes damaged, scarring (cirrhosis) can occur, which can eventually cause liver failure or cancer. And while most people associate liver damage with alcohol abuse, other factors can also play a role. Here, the health conditions, drugs, and lifestyle habits that may cause your liver to become damaged—and what you can do to keep this vital organ healthy. Article summary: Obesity is thought to play a role in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which affects between 80 and 100 million people in the United States,"will soon be the number-one reason for liver transplantation in the U.S Sugar-laden sodas are a notorious cause of weight gain, so it’s not surprising that they’ve also been linked to liver damage. In addition to acetaminophen, other drugs can also harm your liver. Chronic hepatitis B and C are responsible for most cases of liver cancer worldwide. Hepatitis C, the more common cause in the U.S., is spread through contact with infected blood. Genetics can also play a role in the health of your liver, and several hereditary conditions can lead to liver disease. Certain autoimmune diseases can also impact liver function. When the body’s own immune systemmistakenly attacks the liver, it’s called autoimmune hepatitis. Smoking can increase the risk of both liver cancer ,although other factors do play a role, alcohol abuse remains a major cause of cirrhosis and subsequent liver disease.

HOW DOES PARACETAMOL WORK?

03:27
http://www.thetravellingscientist.com.au Paracetamol/Panadol (Acetaminophen/Tylenol) is a cheap and effective drug that is used to treat pain…but how does it work? This short video discusses the mechanism of action of paracetamol, looking at a few possible side effects, comparing it to drugs like aspirin and ibuprofen to determine which, if any, pain relief drugs you should be using. I also look at how Arachidonic Acid, Cyclooxygenase (COX) and prostaglandins work together to cause pain and fever that you might feel with a headache or a bad cold. Paracetamol is thought to inhibit this pathway, but after over 100 years of research…scientists still aren’t certain. Pain relieving drugs can cause side effects like gastrointestinal bleeding as well as liver and kidney damage during metabolisation, so care should be taken not to overdose when using these medications. This link discusses the history of paracetamol http://www.bimsifram.fr/paracetamol/history_paracetamol.htm This link offers the current theory of how paracetamol works https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15662292 This is a link to the paper showing that paracetamol causes similar levels of gastro-intestinal bleeding to ibuprofen http://ard.bmj.com/content/70/9/1534 Use the links below to follow The Travelling Scientist YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0OPSqjSuqsDPhZFokbVxZg?view_as=subscriber Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/travellingscientist/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/travellingscience/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/jctravelscience

Alcoholic Liver Disease

It is the major cause of liver disease in Western countries. Although steatosis (fatty liver) will develop in any individual who consumes a large quantity of alcoholic beverages over a long period of time, this process is transient and reversible. Of all chronic heavy drinkers, only 15–20% develop hepatitis or cirrhosis, which can occur concomitantly or in succession. The mechanism behind this is not completely understood. 80% of alcohol passes through the liver to be detoxified. Chronic consumption of alcohol results in the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines , oxidative stress, lipid peroxidation, and acetaldehyde toxicity. These factors cause inflammation, apoptosis and eventually fibrosis of liver cells. Why this occurs in only a few individuals is still unclear. Additionally, the liver has tremendous capacity to regenerate and even when 75% of hepatocytes are dead, it continues to function as normal. Fatty change, or steatosis is the accumulation of fatty acids in liver cells. These can be seen as fatty globules under the microscope. Alcoholism causes development of large fatty globules (macro vesicular steatosis) throughout the liver and can begin to occur after a few days of heavy drinking. Alcohol is metabolized by alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) into acetaldehyde, then further metabolized by aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) into acetic acid, which is finally oxidized into carbon dioxide (CO2) and water ( H2O). This process generates NADH, and increases the NADH/NAD+ ratio. A higher NADH concentration induces fatty acid synthesis while a decreased NAD level results in decreased fatty acid oxidation. Subsequently, the higher levels of fatty acids signal the liver cells to compound it to glycerol to form triglycerides. These triglycerides accumulate, resulting in fatty liver. Alcoholic hepatitis is characterized by the inflammation of hepatocytes. Between 10% and 35% of heavy drinkers develop alcoholic hepatitis (NIAAA, 1993). While development of hepatitis is not directly related to the dose of alcohol, some people seem more prone to this reaction than others. This is called alcoholic steato necrosis and the inflammation appears to predispose to liver fibrosis. Inflammatory cytokines (TNF-alpha, IL6 and IL8) are thought to be essential in the initiation and perpetuation of liver injury by inducing apoptosis and necrosis. One possible mechanism for the increased activity of TNF-α is the increased intestinal permeability due to liver disease. This facilitates the absorption of the gut-produced endotoxin into the portal circulation. The Kupffer cells of the liver then phagocytose endotoxin, stimulating the release of TNF-α. TNF-α then triggers apoptotic pathways through the activation of caspases, resulting in cell death. Cirrhosis is a late stage of serious liver disease marked by inflammation (swelling), fibrosis (cellular hardening) and damaged membranes preventing detoxification of chemicals in the body, ending in scarring and necrosis (cell death). Between 10% to 20% of heavy drinkers will develop cirrhosis of the liver. Acetaldehyde may be responsible for alcohol-induced fibrosis by stimulating collagen deposition by hepatic stellate cells. The production of oxidants derived from NADPH oxi- dase and/or cytochrome P-450 2E1 and the formation of acetaldehyde-protein adducts damage the cell membrane. Symptoms include jaundice (yellowing), liver enlargement, and pain and tenderness from the structural changes in damaged liver architecture. Without total abstinence from alcohol use, cirrhosis will eventually lead to liver failure. Late complications of cirrhosis or liver failure include portal hypertension (high blood pressure in the portal vein due to the increased flow resistance through the damaged liver), coagulation disorders (due to impaired production of coagulation factors), ascites and other complications, including hepatic encephalopathy and the hepatorenal syndrome. Cirrhosis can also result from other causes than alcohol abuse, such as viral hepatitis and heavy exposure to toxins other than alcohol. The late stages of cirrhosis may look similar medically, regardless of cause. This phenomenon is termed the "final common pathway" for the disease. Fatty change and alcoholic hepatitis with abstinence can be reversible. The later stages of fibrosis and cirrhosis tend to be irreversible, but can usually be contained with abstinence for long periods of time. more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcoholic_liver_disease

7 Signs Of Liver Damage You Shouldn’t Ignore

10:20
7 Signs Of Liver Damage You Shouldn’t Ignore. “Liver damage” encompasses a wide variety of liver problems. In rare cases, liver damage can be a result of genetics. Wilson’s disease, for instance, is a rare genetic condition that results in the buildup of copper in the vital organs, including the liver. Lifestyle choices, though, are the most common cause of liver damage. For some time now, liver disease has been associated with excessive drinking and hepatitis. More, recently, however, fatty liver disease caused by obesity, not drinking, has risen as the leading cause of liver damage in the United States. It is believed that as much as 30 percent of the western world has non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), according to research published by the World Journal of Hepatology. Children also experience liver damage. Obesity rates in children have made an alarming jump in the western world, and the health complications that come with that are worrisome. In 2010, it was estimated that as much as 9.6 percent of children in the United States have NAFLD, according to research published in the journal Hepatology. Risk Factors for Liver Damage. There are certain things that can put you at further risk for liver damage. For starters, if either of your parents have genetic liver conditions, you are definitely at risk. But again, these conditions are very rare in the general population. Wilson’s disease, for instance, is believed to exist in one out of every 30,000 individuals, according to research published in the journal GeneReviews. If you know that this condition runs in your family, it’s best to consult your doctor. Outside of genetics, lifestyle choices can play a huge role in putting a person at risk of developing liver damage. For starters, heavy drinking is a huge risk factor for the development of liver damage. Regularly drinking or binge drinking can result in three different kinds of liver damage: fatty liver, alcoholic hepatitis, and cirrhosis. Fatty liver is experienced by most people who drink heavily, and it is characterized by fat accumulation in liver cells, according to the American Liver Foundation. Roughly 35 percent of heavy drinkers will also develop alcoholic hepatitis: swelling and damage of liver cells caused by excessive drinking. Individuals who have been drinking heavily for ten years or more are at risk of developing cirrhosis, which is the development of scar tissue in the liver. This disease is experienced by 10 to 20 percent of heavy drinkers. The prevalence of liver damage has risen significantly as the obesity rates in the United States have risen. In the United States alone, one out of every four individuals have fatty liver disease. Having diabetes and high cholesterol are risk factors for developing NAFLD, according to the American Liver Foundation. Acetaminophen, the common over-the-counter pain reliever (brand name Tylenol) and active ingredient in many prescription pain medications, can cause liver damage if taken irresponsibly. The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) considers acetaminophen-containing medications safe when taken as directed, but they warn that it can cause serious liver damage if over-consumed. For those who drink regularly or have preexisting liver disease, the FDA wrote, “taking acetaminophen puts you at greater risk of getting liver damage, even when taking acetaminophen at the recommended dose.” Lastly, baby boomers are also at risk for liver damage caused by hepatitis C, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. There is actually a fivefold increase in the risk of hepatitis C in this generation. Since many people have hepatitis C without knowing it, it’s generally recommended that anyone born between the years of 1945 and 1965 be tested. There are effective medical treatments for hepatitis C, which can prevent development of further complications, like “liver damage, cirrhosis, and even liver cancer.” The Signs of Liver Damage Yellowed Skin Yellowed Whites of Eyes Extreme Fatigue Swelling Itchiness Pain in the Right Side of Your Abdomen Difficulty Sleeping Prevention of Liver Damage Help us to be better SUBSCRIBE for more videos here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfR3Y90G-fFDYI6i7E7xPBQ?sub_confirmation=1 More from Health Zone: -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yne8kl6VjII -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7T950IPphMY -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHQuylqVcj0 7 Signs Of Liver Damage You Shouldn’t Ignore. Here's What Happens In Your Body When You Swallow Gum

04:08
We have all heard of terrible things that take place inside our stomach when we swallow gum. But is it really that big of a deal if you forget to spit it out? You may have heard from your 2nd grade teacher that if you swallow your gum, it could stay in your stomach forever. Or worse, it could grow into a rubber tree. Well, that's true. Don't do it. Just kidding. Swallowing chewing gum isn't really going to plant trees in your stomach, but that's no reason to start doing it regularly. Here's what happens to your body when you swallow gum. When you eat standard food, three processes go to work in your body to turn food into fuel. The first is obvious: Chewing. The process breaks food into smaller and smaller pieces, increasing the surface area. Meanwhile, saliva coats those pieces, delivering enzymes that help break down the food. Finally, once swallowed, the stomach acids turn any remaining food pieces into mush. This lets the food pass through the rest of the digestive tract smoothly. But gum doesn't play by those rules. As much as you chew it, gum doesn't break up into smaller pieces. Because it's gum. Duh. Gum has been around for much longer than you'd think. Ancient Mayans and Aztecs harvested resin from the Sapodilla tree. They would dry it into a 'cha', and chewed it to stave off hunger. Even back then, it was also recognized as a breath freshener. However, most gum today is made from natural or synthetic polymers, most commonly butyl rubber. It’s used in all kinds of products, including adhesives, fiber optics, sealants, cling film, paper, fuel, explosives, sporting equipment, roofing, bottle stoppers, and tires. But don't worry, the butyl in gum won't make you sick. Because it can't be broken down, the wad of chewed gum hits your stomach intact.   Your saliva enzymes and your stomach acid can't touch the butyl in the gum base. But that doesn't mean it just hangs out. Your body is equipped to handle gum in the same way it deals with other food it can't fully digest, like corn and sunflower seeds. The muscles of your digestive tract move it along and eventually flush it out of your system in a day or two, along with everything else. So, no, your gum doesn't stay in your body when you swallow it. But that's no reason to start gulping it down by the pack. The more gum that your body has to process, the higher the likelihood that it'll build up. This gum mass could potentially clog your digestive tract, causing an intestinal blockage which can trigger stomach pain or constipation. There's a lovely name for this blockage: a bezoar. An 18-year old Israeli woman once suffered from a bezoar that blocked her stomach. The problem? Turns out, she had been swallowing at least five pieces of gum every day. The blockage had grown so large that doctors had to break it into smaller pieces and then fish it out of her, piece by piece. But chewing gum alone isn't necessarily bad for you. A couple small studies have shown that the act of chewing gum can actually help relax you. Because it can help reduce levels of cortisol — a common stress hormone — in your saliva. So, feel free to unwrap a stick. You won't be alone. 56% of American chew gum, each about 280 sticks per year. It's a 2 billion dollar industry in the U.S. But be wary of swallowing it once done. The occasional piece of gum won’t hurt, but with everything your body already does for you, why put it through the extra work? Just don't spit it out on the ground. That's just gross. Gilbert's Syndrome

Many people never have symptoms. Occasionally a slight yellowish color of the skin or whites of the eyes may occur. Other possible symptoms include feeling tired, weakness, and abdominal pain. Gilbert's syndrome is due to a mutation in the UGT1A1 gene which results in decreased activity of the bilirubin uridine diphosphate glucuronosyltransferase enzyme. It is typically inherited in an autosomal recessive pattern and occasionally in an autosomal dominant pattern depending on the type of mutation. Episodes of jaundice may be triggered by stress such as exercise, menstruation, or not eating. Diagnosis is based on higher levels of unconjugated bilirubin in the blood without either signs of other liver problems or red blood cell breakdown. Typically no treatment is needed. If jaundice is significant phenobarbital may be used. Gilbert's syndrome affects about 5% of people in the United States. Males are more often diagnosed than females. It is often not noticed until late childhood to early adulthood. Gilbert's syndrome produces an elevated level of unconjugated bilirubin in the bloodstream, but normally has no serious consequences. Mild jaundice may appear under conditions of exertion, stress, fasting, and infections, but the condition is otherwise usually asymptomatic. Severe cases are seen by yellowing of the skin tone and yellowing of the sclera in the eye. GS has been reported to possibly contribute to an accelerated onset of neonatal jaundice, especially in the presence of increased red blood cell destruction due to diseases such as G6PD deficiency. This situation can be especially dangerous if not quickly treated, as the high bilirubin causes irreversible neurological disability in the form of kernicterus. The enzymes that are defective in GS - UDP glucuronosyltransferase 1 family, polypeptide A1 (UGT1A1) - are also responsible for some of the liver's ability to detoxify certain drugs. For example, Gilbert's syndrome is associated with severe diarrhea and neutropenia in patients who are treated with irinotecan, which is metabolized by UGT1A1. While paracetamol (acetaminophen) is not metabolized by UGT1A1, it is metabolized by one of the other enzymes also deficient in some people with GS. A subset of people with GS may have an increased risk of paracetamol toxicity. People with GS predominantly have elevated unconjugated bilirubin, while conjugated bilirubin is usually within the normal range and is less than 20% of the total. GS patients have a ratio of unconjugated/conjugated (indirect/direct) bilirubin commensurately higher than those without GS. The level of total bilirubin is often further increased if the blood sample is taken after fasting for two days,[28] and a fast can, therefore, be useful diagnostically. A further conceptual step that is rarely necessary or appropriate is to give a low dose of phenobarbital: the bilirubin will decrease substantially. Tests can also detect DNA mutations of UGT1A1 by polymerase chain reaction or DNA fragment sequencing. While Gilbert's syndrome is considered harmless, it is clinically important because it may give rise to a concern about a blood or liver condition, which could be more dangerous. However, these conditions have additional indicators: Hemolysis can be excluded by a full blood count, haptoglobin, lactate dehydrogenase levels, and the absence of reticulocytosis (elevated reticulocytes in the blood would usually be observed in haemolytic anaemia). Viral hepatitis can be excluded by negative blood samples for antigens specific to the different hepatitis viruses. Cholestasis can be excluded by normal levels of bile acids in plasma, the absence of lactate dehydrogenase, low levels of conjugated bilirubin, and ultrasound scan of the bile ducts. More severe types of glucuronyl transferase disorders such as Crigler–Najjar syndrome (types I and II) are much more severe, with 0–10% UGT1A1 activity, with sufferers at risk of brain damage in infancy (type I) and teenage years (type II). Dubin–Johnson syndrome and Rotor syndrome are rarer autosomal recessive disorders characterized by an increase of conjugated bilirubin. In GS, unless another disease of the liver is also present, the liver enzymes ALT/SGPT and AST/SGOT, as well as albumin, are within normal ranges. Typically no treatment is needed. If jaundice is significant phenobarbital may be used.
Liver Cleanse fast - how to liver cleanse naturally Fast ! 6 ways Liver cleanse - Help Tips66

A liver cleanse is a great way to do this. 6-Way Liver Cleanse Follow these six steps to help boost your health and vitality: 1. Remove toxic foods from your diet. 2. Drink raw vegetable juice. 3. Load up on potassium-rich foods. 4. Do a coffee 5. Take milk thistle, dandelion and turmeric supplements. 6. Eat liver or take beef liver tablets. 1. Remove Toxic Foods from Your Diet If you are eating a diet high in processed foods, you are putting the health of your liver at risk as these foods basically work against liver health. Hydrogenated oils, refined sugar, convenience foods and lunch meats are notoriously toxic to your system. 2. Drink Raw Vegetable Juice It can be nearly impossible to eat all of the raw vegetables you need to make your liver cleanse effective. However, by juicing a variety of raw vegetables, you can easily get the 4–5 servings of fresh, organic vegetables you need. Even vegetables that aren’t your favorites can be disguised and enjoyed in a fresh vegetable juice! 3. Load Up on Potassium-Rich Foods As a) Sweet Potatoes b)Tomato Sauces c)Beet Greens and Spinach d) Beans e) Blackstrap Molasses f) Bananas 4. Coffee Coffee help with constipation, reduce fatigue, and aid in liver detoxification. Combine 2 tablespoons of organic ground coffee with 3 cups of filtered or distilled water in a pot and bring to a boil. Simmer gently for 15 minutes and allow to cool. Strain the mixture through cheesecloth and use in your kit. Try to retain the mixture for 10–15 minutes and then release. 5. Take Milk Thistle, Dandelion, and Turmeric Supplements Milk Thistle Milk Thistle is considered the “king” of detoxifying herbs, making it ideal for a liver cleanse. Milk thistle helps to eliminate the buildup of heavy metals, prescription medications, environmental pollutants and alcohol in the liver. In addition, it helps to reduce the negative effects on the liver after chemotherapy and radiation. The active ingredient silymarin helps to strengthen the cell walls in the liver, while supporting healthy regeneration. (6) Milk thistle can be taken as a supplement or as a liver cleansing detox tea. Turmeric Turmeric reduces joint pain; is an effective antidepressant; aids in digestion; helps to restore a healthy blood sugar balance; and supports healthy liver tissue and liver metabolism (7). Currently, researchers are studying turmeric for a variety of health benefits for diseases and conditions, including: Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, depression, osteoarthritis, breast health, prostate health and chronic pain. Dandelion Root Most homeowners hate the dandelion, as it populates yards every spring. But, this flower, and its root, is actually packed with vitamins and minerals. Dandelion root has a natural diuretic effect, allowing your liver to more quickly eliminate toxins. It also helps to strengthen the immune system, balance blood sugar levels, relieve heartburn, and soothe digestive upset. Burdock root is another option in the same plant family as dandelions that can help detox your system by cleansing the blood, therefore helping to support liver function. Like milk thistle, both dandelion root and burdock root can be taken in both supplement form or as a detox tea. 6. Eat Real Liver or Take Liver Tablets Liver from young, healthy, grass-fed cattle or chicken liver is rich with vitamins A and B, folic acid, choline, iron, copper, zinc, chromium and CoQ10. Liver is one of the most nutrient-dense foods we can eat. If you can’t stomach eating liver, you can take beef liver pills. Seek a supplement that guarantees no hormones, pesticides or antibiotics are used in the feeding and care of the cattle. Liver Cleanse Effectively Removes Toxins Today, we are faced with so many environmental toxins occurring in our homes, places of work and in our food supply. It is essential for our general health and well-being to maintain good liver health. Below are some of the risk factors associated with impaired liver function. (3) • Low potassium levels (4) • Heavy alcohol abuse • Intravenous drug use • Blood transfusions prior to 1992 • Exposure to certain industrial chemicals and environmental toxins • Unprotected sexuality • Obesity and a diet high in saturated fats, and processed foods • Tattoos or body piercings • High levels of triglycerides in the blood • Prescription medications including acetaminophen • Viral infections • Autoimmune diseases keywords: natural cures, home made recipe, home made remedies, herbal, herb, liver cleanse, liver detox, liver flush, natural liver cleanse, best liver cleanse, liver cleansing foods, foods good for liver, natural liver detox, home remedies

http://bit.ly/fattylr Best Diet for Fatty Liver Reversal👍👍👍 Diet for Liver The primary functions of the liver are to detoxify the body and to produce the bile used to digest food. However, the liver also stores certain vitamins, minerals, sugars, regulates fat storage and controls the production and excretion of cholesterol. Vitamins Since the liver filters the unused nutrients out of the body, an excessive amount of certain vitamins can cause additional stress on the liver. Calories and Carbohydrates Carbohydrates should be the major source of calories in a diet designed for liver health. Sodium Liver disease can cause fluid retention in the body, especially around the abdomen or hands and feet. Protein The liver plays an important role in the digestion of protein. As protein is being broken down, waste products such as ammonia are formed. Alcohol In order to give the liver a chance to regenerate, avoid substances that can stress the liver. Visit the website. Major 10 steps to keep your kidneys performance 100%

04:19
Please watch: "THESE SIMPLE STRATEGIES CAN HELP PREVENT HEMORRHOID PAIN FROM GETTING IN THE WAY OF YOUR LIFE." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBJfsnfauug --~-- Hi, I am Jeanie. In this video, i will share ten steps to keep your kidneys healthy. #1. Hydrate. Staying thoroughly hydrated is the most important thing, you can do to prevent kidney stones and keep kidneys strong. Water dilutes the urine, and that prevents minerals, and salts from clustering together and forming stones. I often recommend that patients who are at risk for kidney stones, start the day by drinking fresh lemon juice in a glass of room temperature water. #2. Probiotics. Make certain you have healthy populations of friendly bacteria known as probioticsin your intestines. Studies have shown that these microorganisms are linked to better, overall and digestive health, as well as a long list of other benefits. One of those involves assisting kidneys in processing waste materials, as well as reducing the likelihood of developing kidney stones. A recent clinical trial involving patients with chronic kidney disease found that the group, taking probiotics improved kidney function test scores as well as overall quality of life. #3. Eat Less Meat. Kidney stones are most common in populations that consume a great deal of meat. I suggest aiming for less than 65 grams of animal protein per day, which is just a little more than two ounces. #4. Avoid Phosphorous. You rarely hear about the mineral phosphorous, probably because deficiencies are so rare, especially for anyone eating the Standard American Diet. And that’s why phosphorous is becoming a problem, particularly for kidneys. Carbonated soft drinks and prepared, processed foods are especially high in phosphorus. You only need 800 mg to 1200 mg of phosphorus each day; higher amounts are flushed from the body by healthy kidneys. When phosphorus accumulates in the body, it causes kidney performance serious, and bone and heart disorders, as well as calcification (hardening) of tissues. The easiest way to make sure you’re not getting too much phosphorus is to eat a nutritious, whole foods diet and totally avoid any fast and convenience foods. #5. Quit Smoking. Smoking hurts the kidneys, so if that is one of your vices you have to stop. #6. Drink Juice. One of the best ways to support good kidney health is with daily juicing. My favorite is to juice one entire bunch of cilantro or parsley, two herbs that are kidney friendly and help remove heavy metals from the body, mixed with water, lemon juice, and raw, organic honey to taste. If you have not discovered juicing yet, you can also use a greens product that provides a healthy serving of these essential nutrients. #7. Eat These Foods. Stock-up on kidney-supportive foods, including watermelon, berries (cranberries, blueberries, and strawberries), peppers, apples, garlic, onions, cabbage, cauliflower, and olive oil. These are very good foods for kidneys health. #8. Lose Some Weight. If you’re carrying around extra pounds, do your kidneys a favor and shed a few pounds. Obesity has been linked to an increased likelihood of developing kidney cancer. #9. Ditch the Pain Relievers. Slash your risk of kidney cancer even further by minimizing your use of pain relievers, including non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, Nuprin), naproxen (Aleve), and acetaminophen(Tylenol). Products like these are very hard on the kidneys. Even worse, researchers have found that these drugs increase the risk of developing kidney cancer. #10. Epsom Salt. Treat yourself to a detox bath in Epsom salts. Removing waste and toxins gives kidney a boost while improving your overall health. Making the changes I’ve listed above will benefit your kidneys, along with your overall health. I hope, this video will increase your knowledge. What Breaks a Fast and What Does NOT Break a Fast - The Official Video

11:28
Click Here to Subscribe: http://Bit.ly/ThomasVid Website: http://ThomasDeLauer.com What Breaks a Fast and What Does NOT Break a Fast - The Official Video - Thomas DeLauer So many people have asked the awesome questions about specific foods breaking a fast or not breaking a fast, so I figured, what the heck, why don't I just lay it out for you. I'm going to list out foods that are fasting-safe, or should I say drinks, and things that are fasting-safe. But, then I'm going to list out things that are no-gos, things that will definitely break a fast. I'm going to give you a little bit of the science, too. Then I'm going to talk about the gray area. What I mean by gray area is there are going to be things that may or may not break a fast. It's still undecided. The jury is still out. I'll give you my honest opinion on it, so you can take it for what it's worth. But first off, let's go ahead and let's talk about a couple of things that are good to go while you're fasting. First and foremost, we know that good, old-fashioned H2O is good to go. Unless you're doing a dry fast, water is not going to cause a problem. You're good to go. Kind of an obvious one. The next one I want to talk about, green tea. Very powerful, that epigallocatechin-3-gallate, that EGCG, is really powerful. Allows your body to mobilize fats quite a bit better, so it's a very good thing to be drinking while you're fasting. Then, we've got coffee, of course. Coffee will not break a fast as long as it's black. Totally good to go. Again, the caffeine mobilizing fatty acids. You're good there. It's going to help expedite the process of fasting. It's going to help expedite glycogen removal, or should I say, storage, that the carbs and the glycogen and the glucose isn't in your bloodstream anymore. It goes into the muscles. We definitely want that, so that's powerful. Here's a kind of a weird one. It's going to be most teas, black, green, or whatever, but I have to say this now, certain herbal teas with fruit. You see some herbal teas out there, the have little chunks of apple, they have little chunks of berries that are dehydrated. You're getting the fructose from those fruits, so I would highly recommend staying away from those. That's a no-go. So then, back to the fasting-safe, now we've got different sodas that I want to talk about. Zevia, for one, I've talked about this in a video. That's a soda that's sweetened with Stevia, so you're good to go there. And, as much as I hate to say this, I'm going to go on the record by saying I don't think that aspartame is good. I don't think it's healthy, but a lot of people ask. Diet Coke, diet sodas, you're going to be okay. Aspartame doesn't technically break a fast. So, you're okay there. I just don't think it's the best thing to do, but I know that a lot of you are wondering that, so I'm going to go ahead and say it. When we look at any kind of carbonated beverage, you're usually good to go, so I'm just going to say carbonated water, carbonated H2O, sparkling beverages, things like that. People also always ask about vaping, because there's oil, and you're ingesting the vape. Does vaping break a fast? Generally, no. You're not swallowing the oil, you're inhaling it. What I will say is that vape, the nicotine that is usually in vape, just like smoking, affects your electron transport chain. It affects NADH. That's why you get a high from it. That's why you get a buzz. The jury is still a little bit out on whether not not nicotine technically would constitute breaking a fast, but for the sake of the metabolic function of a fast, you're okay. I'm going to leave this here for now. There might be one or two more that I add, but I want to start going over the things that will break a fast. I already talked about herbal teas that have fruit in them. Now, the big one, guys. MCT oil and powder. I love that stuff and it's great for keto, but it does break a fast. There's still eight calories per gram. Unlike most fats that are nine calories per gram, MCTs only have eight. It's a little bit different. They still are digested. They still elicit a metabolic response. It's still food. It's still calories. If you have a couple of tablespoons of MCT oil, you're still looking at a couple hundred calories. That's definitely not fasting, okay? So, MCT oil does. So does coconut oil. Same kind of thing. You've got to be careful there.

how to detox liver and how liver cleanse naturally ! 6 ways Liver cleanse Naturally!!

13:57
Coffee Coffee enemas help with constipation, reduce fatigue, and aid in liver detoxification. Combine 2 tablespoons of organic ground coffee with 3 cups of filtered or distilled water in a pot and bring to a boil. Simmer gently for 15 minutes and allow to cool. Strain the mixture through cheesecloth and use in your enema kit. (3) • Low potassium levels (4) • Heavy alcohol abuse • Intravenous drug use • Blood transfusions prior to 1992 • Exposure to certain industrial chemicals and environmental toxins • Unprotected sexuality • Obesity and a diet high in saturated fats, and processed foods • Tattoos or body piercings • High levels of triglycerides in the blood • Prescription medications including acetaminophen • Viral infections • Autoimmune diseases

Home remedies for headache - 5 Holistic Remedies For Headaches That Actually Work

05:45
5 Holistic Remedies For Headaches That Actually Work, According To A Migraine Specialist Home remedies for headache headache remedies headache treatment People who constantly suffer from headaches and migraine attacks usually have a list of things they do to help them cope with the pain and relieve themselves of it if possible. You can’t do much when your head and neck hurt like crazy. Looking for relief is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Not all the time Tylenol can come to your rescue nor keeping yourself hydrated makes much of a difference. If you’ve become desperate already and running out of options, maybe it is high time you forget about western medicine for now and delve deeper into holistic headache remedies that actually work. The renowned headache expert, Dr. Susan Hutchinson, shared his thoughts on Elite Daily and discussed further regarding the holistic approach to treating headaches. Take note, though, that not all the time these holistic remedies may work for you but it is worth exploring especially if conventional medicines no longer work for you or offer relief. Here are some examples of natural headache remedies you can try when the pain persists even after popping a pill or two. 1. Essential Oils Essential oils are renowned for their healing properties. Dr. Hutchinson suggests eucalyptus, lavender, and peppermint relieve that throbbing head pain that does not seem to go away. The expert suggests putting a dab on these oils on your temple or add several drops on the humidifier and inhale to your heart’s content. But rather than doing everything all at once, try one at a time or you might get overwhelmed by the scent. 2. Yoga (Or any Zen-inspired workout) Stress is one of the major causes of headaches as per the Office on Women’s Health. But we all deal with stress in our everyday lives. Once the stress has become unbearable and leaves us feeling anxious, that’s when your head starts to ache as if it is about to crack. To reduce stress and muscle tension, try yoga instead. Other activities like biking, running, swimming, and walking can also relieve you of anxiety according to Dr. Hutchinson.Give them all a try and find out which one works best for you and stick with it. Physical exercise is not only good for your health and physique but helps you better deal with stress too. Dr. Hutchinson shares that you are able to better manage pain if you are in a better mindset. So, move around and sweat it out and your headache will definitely disappear sooner rather than later. 3. This Fancy Ear Device There is this new fancy ear device known as MigraineX you should know of. It sends alerts to your phone app every time it detects a drop in barometric pressure otherwise known as the atmospheric pressure. In layman’s term, it is the weight of the air. Dr. Hutchinson warns people that these environmental changes can trigger a nasty headache. To protect yourself from it, wear the MigraineX device. It is like an earplug that protects you from potential migraine triggers. There are filters in it that prevents the barometric pressure from dropping further. If you are a busybee and travels frequently, you can benefit a lot from MigraineX since you can’t always be sensitive to atmospheric shifts in your surroundings that can trigger a migraine. 4. A Smarter Diet You can never go wrong with proper nutrition. It is as holistic as you can ever get. Hence, choose healthier food options. It means you should consume more fruits and veggies and avoid sweets and most processed foods to ensure you don’t always fall victim to headaches. Dr. Hutchinson says to increase your intake of natural foods in your every meal. Eat a variety of healthy dishes and your head won’t hurt as often as it did in the past. 5. Ice pack + Dark Room Dr. Hutchinson says that the combination of an ice pack + a dark room is not just holistic but backed by experts. It is pretty much a no-brainer too. In the midst of a migraine attack, lie down in a dark and quiet room with an ice pack on top of your forehead for half an hour. The migraine expert suggests taking a nice bath filled with Epson salt if things still turn for the worst. The expert tells Elite Daily that some women find the magnesium in the salt calming to their system. Take care of yourself first and you can definitely conquer the world. migraine treatment what causes headaches what causes migraines headache medicine chronic headaches constant headache natural remedies for migraines migraine headache relief types of headaches tension headache relief migraine medication ocular migraine what helps headaches natural remedies for headaches

Your Best Weapon Against Food Allergies and Food Intolerances | Chris Masterjohn Lite #71

Food allergies seem more common now than ever. Are we just hearing about them more because of better awareness, or are they really more common? We have reliable data about celiac disease: it’s four times as common now than it was a half century ago. I suspect the same is true of other food intolerances and of food allergies. Your best weapons? The egg yolks and liver that have disappeared from our diets during this timeframe, and avoiding unnecessary use of over-the-counter anti-inflammatories. This episode is brought to you by Ancestral Supplements. How To Heal Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis

18:10
Here is a slightly more comprehensive video than I usually make, it contains many hints and tips on how you can really improve the health of your digestive tract if you have either Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. We are not talking about "cure", but about getting your digestive system in a lot better shape than you probably have had for years. Are you ready to feel a lot better? Then follow these suggestions carefully and see what happens... Let's get started. Before we get started, we're going to explain the difference between ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, because these are two quite different conditions lumped into the inflammatory bowel disease category. Crohn's disease tends to be a lot more insidious, a lot more disturbing, a lot more painful, a lot more serious, than ulcerative colitis. In fact, up to 70% of people with Crohn's, at some stage in their life will end up with some type of surgery. Not always effective, but often required, because they end up with such big health problems. If you think about the word ulcerative colitis, it implies the colon. Ulcerative colitis generally affects the lower parts of the large intestine. It's gonna be affecting the descending colon and the sigmoid colon. Not usually the rectum, but the colon's affected, especially like the latter part of the colon. Whereas, Crohn's disease, it can affect any part of the digestive system, from the mouth right through to the rectal area. But, it will generally affect the distal parts of the small intestine. In medicine, distally means further away. The small intestine is broken into three parts. You've got the duodenum, or we call it duodenum, you've got the jejunum, and you have the ileum. The ileum is the terminal part that connects up to the colon through the ileocecal valve. The ileum is the part most affected by Crohn's Disease. Crohn's tends to have a lot more serious effect on the bowel as I mentioned. There'll be ulcers, and these can be very deep ulcers. These can affect the deeper layers of the tissue causing a lot of destruction of the bowel, hence the surgery. Whereas, colitis tends to affect the more superficial and upper layers affecting the mucosa. This can cause mucus and bleeding, which we commonly find with colitis. With Crohn's we're gonna get lot more pain, much more pain, much more cramping and bleeding, like serious pathology. What do we do about these conditions? That's what we're gonna talk about. We're gonna talk about how you can get a good outcome with inflammatory bowel, how you can avoid a lot of the discomfort and how you can also avoid lot of the unnecessary anxiety that comes with this condition. Inflammatory bowel can really muck up your life quite a lot. It can cause a lot of problems. Most people I've seen with inflammatory bowel disease end up so stressed out because of this condition, some of them end up quitting their job or having relationship problems, or it really disrupts your life. I wouldn't know what it's like to have inflammatory bowel, because my gut has always been in such good shape. But I can totally understand where people come from when they have inflammatory bowel, because the quality of their life can go very low, very quickly. That then, of course, will affect them emotionally, significantly. Let's look at the natural approach. What are you gonna do if you've got this condition? What are some of the best things you can do? Well, I always say the bigger the problem, the bigger the hammer. I've got a lot of tools, and I've got small hammers in my workshop, but I've also got a sledge hammer, a real big sledge hammer, and I find that sometimes very effective for problem like breaking a big piece of concrete. But you are not going to be breaking a big piece of concrete with a tiny little tack hammer that you use for putting little tacks in. Similar with this condition. So, you need a big solution when you've got a big problem. You need a strong heavy solution.

What is Thyroid Cancer? – Health Topics

04:27
Aru Panwar, MD — Head and Neck Oncologist, Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Learn more about Dr. Aru Panwar or find another provider on http://www.mhsdoctors.com. TRANSCRIPT: Thyroid cancer is one of the common type of cancers that are seen in the United States, amongst many cancers that we encounter. It is one of the ones that incidence is rising still. Fortunately, many of the thyroid cancers are well behaved cancers and I use that word very carefully because with appropriate treatment cure and long term productive life is very much in sight. So, we see a lot of patients who get identified with thyroid nodules. These are lumps that may form on the thyroid gland. Fortunately, a vast majority of those nodules are benign or noncancerous but some can be cancerous. In those circumstances we carefully choose which patients would require surgery and following surgery a minority of patients may require additional treatment a form of treatment called radioactive iodine which is a pill form of treatment but generally most of our patients tend to do very well. They live long productive healthy happy lives and that's our goal. So, the thyroid gland is a butterfly shaped organ that lives in the front part of the neck. It straddles the windpipe. It has two lobes. The right side on the left side. It produces hormones that regulate metabolism and hormones that interact with a wide variety of other organ systems disturbances of Thyroid hormones can occur even without nodules or without cancers. Those are often medically treated those conditions disturbances of Thyroid hormone can lead to a wide variety of symptoms which can really span from very innocuous or very trivial issues related to skin abnormalities, nail or hair abnormalities, to more serious conditions which relate to how the heart functions and how patients have mental clarity. And other similar things. Fortunately, most patients who have thyroid surgery, depending on the extent of the surgery, if they require Thyroid hormone replacement can be very well treated by way of pill form of hormone therapy. It is usually one pill that they take every morning. It is well tolerated. Labs can be checked periodically but not very often. Once the Thyroid hormone level has been in a fairly steady state then the lab checks may not be more frequently than six or 12 months. So patients generally do well with those medications. Most patients who receive a Thyroidectomy are brought into the hospital on the day of surgery they undergo surgery and then subsequently are observed for a few hours in a short stay area and subsequently they're able to go home the same day. We encourage them to get up out of bed and sit in a chair walk around normally. There are there is no requirement for bed rest. Patients do not usually have any restrictions in terms of their speech or in terms of swallowing. They can be on a normal diet afterwards. They usually don't require much in terms of pain medications. We've learned that most patients would have good pain control with medications such as Tylenol or ibuprofen and use of ice packs. So, most patients don't even require narcotic medications. They get back to their routine lives fairly quickly. We usually don't use any drain tubes; the incisions are closed with dissolving stitches and some superglue-like-material; patients can usually shower the next day. They don't have to apply any bandages and generally they bounce back pretty quickly. There are some minor precautions that we recommend. For example, just because if you have a neck incision and it's a little stiff and sore may be driving and turning quickly to look at the blindspot may not be easy to do. So, I usually tell my patients that they may exercise caution before the first week, in terms of driving. We usually advise them not to do any heavy lifting for two weeks. We expect and encourage them to return to their routine lives pretty quickly.

BLOOD alcohol content - WikiVidi Documentary

13:01
Blood alcohol content , also called blood alcohol concentration, blood ethanol concentration, or blood alcohol level, is most commonly used as a metric of alcohol intoxication for legal or medical purposes. Blood alcohol concentration is usually expressed as a percentage of ethanol in the blood in units of mass of alcohol per volume of blood or mass of alcohol per mass of blood, depending on the country. For instance, in North America a BAC of 0.1 means that there are 0.10 g of alcohol for every dL of blood.... http://www.wikividi.com ____________________________________ Shortcuts to chapters: 00:00:50 Estimated blood alcohol content by intake 00:02:39 Binge drinking 00:03:06 Units of measurement 00:04:30 Legal limits 00:05:43 Limits by country (BrAC: breath alcohol content) 00:05:59 Test assumptions 00:07:03 Metabolism and excretion 00:10:23 Full stomachs ____________________________________ Copyright WikiVidi.
