01:24:25
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor visited Brown University on Wednesday, Feb. 7, for an open-to-the-public conversation moderated by Brown President Christina Paxson. The U.S. Supreme Court justice engaged with students on a wide range of topics, offering an up-close look at her life and career. Sotomayor’s visit came 18 months after Brown’s incoming Class of 2020 students explored her journey from a Bronx housing project to her appointment as the first Hispanic and third woman on the nation’s highest court. Joining A Fraternal Organization

00:50
The Odd Fellows, also known as The Three Link Fraternity, is one of the oldest and largest non-political and non-sectarian fraternal and service-oriented organization in the world. It was established because the world was very different back then. The things we take for granted now were almost non-existent like healthcare, orphanages, educational systems, care for the elderly and for the impoverished. Even though we have come a long way now, more needs to be done to see that everyone everywhere is treated with care, kindness, and dignity. Working together to achieve these goals and help our fellow men creates a bond that cannot be described. A brotherhood and sisterhood of benevolence that can only be felt as an active participant. Working together, we really can make a difference! There are many theories about how it first started and got its name but the generally accepted belief is that it emerged in England when a group of working class men who fell outside the established system of trade guilds banded together to form their own labor association. At the time of industrialization in England, 'Fellows' from various 'Odd' trades gathered together and formed a fraternity to protect and care for their members and communities at a time when there was no welfare state, trade unions and National Health Insurance. They would work together to help each other and the unfortunate families back on their feet, whether it was rebuilding a barn that had burned, or putting in a new crop after a devastating season. Such helpers came to be known as "odd fellows," so named by the general population who thought they were "an odd bunch of fellows" who would behave in such a selfless and seemingly impractical fashion. This group then adopted the name. By year 1700's, there were a number of Odd Fellows organization in England. In 1810, various Odd Fellows lodges of the London Union Order in Manchester organized an "Independent Order of Oddfellows" with the title "Manchester Unity". With their improved system they were able to persuade other Odd Fellow Lodges to join their unity. They also chartered the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in America years after. While several Odd Fellow lodges had existed in New York City before, because of the charter relationship, American Odd Fellowship (Independent Order of Odd Fellows) is regarded as being founded in Baltimore, Maryland at the Seven Stars Tavern on April 26, 1819, by Thomas Wildey and some associates who were members of the fraternity in England. On September 20, 1851, I.O.O.F became the first fraternity to accept both men and women when it formed the Daughters of Rebekah. Brother Schuyler Colfax, (Vice President of the US from 1869-1873), was the force behind the movement. During the 'Golden Age of fraternalism', the Odd Fellows was the largest fraternal and service organization in the world. The world Almanac showed that it had over 3.4 Million active members in 1915. Although non-political and non-sectarian, it also claimed many notable members which included six U.S. Presidents such as Franklin Roosevelt and Warren Harding, as well as many Senators, Governors and community leaders. Lucy Hobbs Taylor, the first female American Dentist, was also identified as member. It continues to exist up until today with about 10, 000 lodges in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Belize, Canada, Chile, Cuba, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Norway, Poland, Puerto Rico, Philippines, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States of America, Uruguay, and Venezuela. Internationally, it is involved in various charitable causes such as their Educational Foundation which gives scholarships annually, Arthritis Foundation, Visual Eye Research Foundation at Wilmer Eye Institute, Living Legacy program which planted more than 8 Million trees already, the United Nations Pilgrimage of the Youth which sponsors High School students on a one-week trip to the United Nations, the S.O.S. Children's Village which houses orphans and aids victims in Cambodia, etc. Find a lodge and Join! If you can't find a lodge close to you contact me and we'll help you START a lodge! The benefits outweigh the work, and the work is rewarded by helping your fellowmen! Chp 7- Newsday's "Fallout: Brookhaven National Lab's Legacy in the Pacific" -- Chapter 7 of Nine

02:43
Newsday's nine-part video documentary and story can be found at http://www.newsday.com/long-island/li... For 43 years, doctors at Brookhaven National Laboratory were in charge of the medical care of residents of the remote Marshall Islands in the Pacific who had been exposed to radiation from nuclear bomb blasts set off by the United States during the Cold War. Newsday's investigation shows the lab knowingly allowed hundreds of island residents to live on contaminated islands so that American scientists could study the flow of radioactivity through their bodies for "scientific and military concerns." BNL also convinced some 100 Marshallese residents to have highly questionable thyroid surgery -- paying each person $25,000 to secure their cooperation -- often without their fully informed consent. After living on their contaminated islands from 1957 to 1985, the population of Rongelap fled, convinced that they were being lied to by the BNL team. They now live hundreds of miles away from their homeland. Now the Obama adminstration and the U.S. Congress will have to decide whether to pay $1 billion in damages awarded to Rongelap by the Nuclear Claims Tribunal in 2007.

Parable of the Hummingbird: Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas

http://www.heartspeakproductions.ca Featured Presentation at the 2nd International Conference on Restorative Practices: Widening Our Lens, Connecting Our Practice, May 31st - June 5th, 2009, Vancouver, BC. Restorative Practices International in partnership with the Centre for Restorative Justice, SFU Flight of the Hummingbird; A Parable for the Environment - This little book features artwork by internationally renowned artist Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas. His distinct and lively Haida Manga style engages perfectly with this inspirational story that encourages every individual to act on behalf of the worlds limited and precious resources. http://mny.ca/ Athlii Gwaii: The Line at Lyell (46:30 min.) 2003 Part of the Ravens and Eagles: Haida Art series Jeff Bear/Marianne Jones, Ravens and Eagles Productions In the fall of 1985, a small but resolute troupe of Haida elders journeyed by helicopter to Athlii Gwaii (Lyell Island) to join their young counterparts in a stand against clearcutting. Industrial invasion in the remote archipelago had gone too far. Ancient cedar giants and rare spruce trees—lifeblood of Haida art and culture—had been leveled indiscriminately for too long. Buoyed by their courageous Haida elders, protesters united in peaceful resistance. A total of 72 people were arrested, but their tactics garnered global attention and won change: in 1987, the government established the Gwaii Haanas Park Reserve/Haida Heritage Site. http://www.movingimages.ca/catalogue/Art/re_athliigwaii.html

NEW CITY CHIROPRACTIC CENTER PRESENTS FUNDRAISING DONATION TO LOCAL CHAPTER OF MS SOCIETY

02:53
New City Chiropractic Center's Spartan Team Raises Over $9,000 For Multiple Sclerosis Research By Participating In 'Insane' Spartan Race™ When eleven individuals signed up as members of the New City Gladiators under the auspices of New City Chiropractic Center to participate in a 'Spartan Sprint,' for charity they had some idea of what they had gotten themselves into but none of them truly realized the extent of the challenges they would be facing on a very hot June 2nd. "The race itself and the obstacles were much harder than we anticipated but nothing compared to the challenges faced each and every day by those afflicted with MS," stated Dr. Michael Cocilovo, organizer of the Gladiators. Dr. Cocilovo's older brother Vincent was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis over 25 years ago and so the cause is one that is close to his heart. In addition, his practice treats many individuals who suffer from MS including Richard Fernandez whose wife Nancy was part of the Gladiator team and raised over $4,400. The team together raised a total of $8,000 by race day but the total donation is currently $9,267. Additional donations can be made at: http://bit.ly/gladiators-for-ms While there are different levels of Spartan Races, the Gladiator team participated in a Spartan Sprint which is normally a little over three miles, but because Spartan Race uses the Tuxedo, New York obstacle course to test new challenges, the course was actually 4.6 miles, although the racers weren't told that until the end of the day, and much of it up hill. The obstacles included dragging 25 pound sand bags up hill, climbing spider web type ropes, pulling cement blocks by metal chains, scaling numerous walls ranging from four feet high to eight feet high, balancing and walking across thin tree stumps placed in the ground, throwing javelins, climbing a 20 foot rope after wading through hip deep mud, flipping giant tractor trailer tires, crawling and rolling in mud uphill underneath barbed wire, traversing a fire pit, and just when you think you're done, there are men at the end of the race with giant, albeit somewhat cushioned, clubs waiting to give you a whack just before you cross the finish line! For every obstacle that the athletes didn't accomplish successfully, they had to execute 30 burpees which is a full body exercise akin to a jumping jack combined with a plank and a squat thrust! More than 12,000 people participated over the course of the weekend with the fastest finisher coming in at 1.14 minutes and with the average time at 2.5 hours. The New City Gladiators were in the middle range with a very respectable team finish of approximately 400 out of 750 teams. They each received a Spartan Race "I finished -- can you?" t-shirt along with a medal for their efforts.   The other motivating factor for Dr. Cocilovo was undergoing major hip surgery about a year ago. He promised his daughter Katie that once he had completely healed they would participate in a sporting event to celebrate his return to health. "Katie went and found the toughest sporting event possible," joked Dr. Cocilovo. New City Chiropractic Center (www.newcitychiropractic.com) has been serving the Rockland County area for over 25 years providing chiropractic care, health and wellness workshops on topics such as managing stress, reversing diabetes, creating an ergonomic office and back safety. A Certified Sports Team Physician, Dr. Cocilovo is also one of a select group of chiropractors who is certified to perform Manipulation under Anesthesia (MUA). He is a long-time member of the New York State Chiropractic Association and is Past President of the Rockland County Chapter of the American Chiropractic Association. Dr. Rodriguez is board certified in Chiropractic and Physiotherapy by the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners and a current member of the American Chiropractic Association, as well as of the New York State Chiropractic Association. Their office is located at 490 Route 304 in New City and they can be reached by calling 845-634-8877 or info@newcitychiropractic.com. # # #

Torsten Kunert is a practitioner of Raphaology Medicine, Holistic, Natural Medicine and Wellness, a unique healing system encompassing whole herb and food nutrients that provide the body with missing elements necessary to repair damage, restore function, and achieve peak health and performance, no matter your present state of health. INTERACTIVE DIAGNOSTIC THERAPY The bottoms of the feet provide a map of the entire body. The right foot corresponds to the organs on the right side of the body, and the same holds true for the left foot. Every aspect of the human body's form is repeated in the shape of the foot. Nerve path endings on the soles of the feet are a map for the corresponding internal organs of the body and can be accessed by using Interactive Determination (ID) Therapy. This therapy shows just what imbalances, dysfunctions and light frequency deficiencies are present. It reveals exactly what color frequency in herbs and foods are necessary to restore full spectrum light, energy, nutrients and enzymes to the individual organ for repairing damage, restoring function, boosting immunities, balancing hormones, alleviating symptoms and revitalizing health to its optimal state. Torsten reveals that every disease starts in the digestive system with nutritional deficiencies: foods that cannot be metabolized, utilized, or discarded. Poor quality foods that cannot be used or eliminated putrefy, toxify, and produce off-gasses. Toxic elements are spread into areas of the body that begin to host pathogens and deplete nutrients, debilitate hormone producing glands, cause chemical imbalances, and damage organs. This produces pain, swelling, high blood sugar and cholesterol, and every other kind of symptom. Every human body has the intelligence and power to repair, rebuild, restore, and maintain itself with the choice of herbs over drugs, and whole foods over refined rations. Get all the clear, relevant information you need to take leave of commercial medicine's toxic strategies and take charge of your own health and choices. UNREPENTANT: Canada's Residential Schools Documentary

01:48:45
This award winning documentary reveals Canada's darkest secret - the deliberate extermination of indigenous (Native American) peoples and the theft of their land under the guise of religion. This never before told history as seen through the eyes of this former minister (Kevin Annett) who blew the whistle on his own church, after he learned of thousands of murders in its Indian Residential Schools. GET A DIGITAL DOWNLOAD: http://www.amazon.com/Unrepentant-Annett-Canada-Genocide-Documentary/dp/B00IMQOT7E First-hand testimonies from residential school survivors are interwoven with Kevin Annett's own story of how he faced firing, de-frocking, and the loss of his family, reputation and livelihood as a result of his efforts to help survivors and bring out the truth of the residential schools. Subscribe to our channel http://bit.ly/AJSubscribe Subscribe to our channel http://bit.ly/AJSubscribe Canada's Idle No More movement began as a small social media campaign - armed with little more than a hashtag and a cause. But it has grown into a large indigenous movement, with protests and ceremonial gatherings held almost daily in many of the country's major cities. The movement is spearheaded by Theresa Spence, the leader of the Attawapiskat, a small native band in northern Ontario. Spence is now 22 days into a hunger strike on Ottawa's Victoria Island just across from the Canadian Parliament. At Al Jazeera English, we focus on people and events that affect people's lives. Just a few decades ago, pregnancy was a sacred time, a time to protect an unborn child from toxins and other dangers 03:52 Tdap Pregnancy Vaccine Theory: 05:53 Lack of Data on Drugs: There are lots of studies, but few randomized placebo controlled studies. Vaccines get a special fast track. One that upsets Dr. Thomas is the HPV Gardasil vaccine that is administered to teenagers to prevent cervical cancer in women. 08:43 Toxins, Toxins, Toxins: At the time of the 1 in 1000 study in Norway, the US autism rate was 1 in 100. What toxins do we have in the US that they don’t have in Norway? GMO is banned in most of Europe. They also do not do the hepatitis B vaccines for newborns. We have been doing this in the US for about 20 years. Hep B is contracted from sex and IV drug use, which babies don’t do. Babies can get it if their mothers have it. The CDC believes that 1 in 100 mothers have hepatitis B, however some studies say it is more like 1 in 1,000. We are injecting a 250 mcg toxic dose of aluminum to 99 out a hundred or 999 out of a thousand infants for a disease for which they are not at risk. 11:47 Flu Shots and Autism: There are studies that show an increased risk of autism if you have inflammation in the womb. 12:28 Genomics: There are hundreds of thousands of SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms). Much research is being done. 13:48 Individualized Vaccine Approach: Families should be able to individualize the approach to vaccines. 17:47 Dr. Thomas’ Shift to Integrative Pediatrics: 19:21 Developmental Delays: A policy in Dr. Thomas’ practice is if you start to see developmental delays, you stop all further vaccination. Each child is an individual and care must be tailored to what you are seeing. 20:31 Informed Consent: Doctors have been taught to never do anything to a patient without informed consent, explaining explicitly the risks and benefits of the procedure. Also explained must be the alternatives. 22:24 Herd Immunity: Herd immunity is a concept that if we vaccinate enough in the human herd, if the disease is introduced into the herd, it cannot take hold. 25:34 Vaccines and Pediatricians: Dr. Thomas’ book, The Vaccine-Friendly Plan is about far more than vaccines. 30:50 CDC’s View on Risk: Allergic reaction and severe autoimmunity issues are seen as risk by the CDC, but not family history, genetics or other impacts. 31:34 Pediatricians Must Think for Themselves: It is time for pediatricians to stand up and return to informed consent. 36:12 Dr. Thomas’ Morning Routine: 40:18 Dr. Thomas’ Favorite Botanical:

I can't stop drinking about you. Without you I ain't the same. So pour a shot in my glass and I'll forget forever! So pour a shot in my glass cause it makes everything better! Darlin tell me what more can I do? Don't you know that I was meant for you? You say I feel like heaven on earth, But You'd never know what heaven was if it wasn't for... her. I can't stop drinking about you. I gotta numb the pain. I can't stop drinking about you. Without you I ain't the same. So pour a shot in my glass and I'll forget forever! Harvest of Hope: 6 Victor Montejo

21:13
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, this timely and insightful forum moderated by Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian Director Kevin Gover (Pawnee/Comanche) focuses on topical issues of reconciliation and highlights national apologies made to Native peoples. The symposium covers the eloquent apology issued in June 2008 by the Canadian government for the abuse and cultural loss suffered by Aboriginal peoples in Canada's residential schools. It includes a presentation on the Native American Apology Resolution recently passed in the United States Senate as well as an examination of reconciliation efforts in Guatemala. A wrap-up speaker considers the issues involved in apologies and reconciliation processes in a broad scope. Concluding with panel discussion and questions from the audience, Harvest of Hope seeks a deeper, more inclusive understanding of our national narratives and the experiences of the Native peoples of the Americas. In Part 6, Victor Montejo gives a talk entitled "From Bartolomé de las Casas to President Clinton: Apologies, Reconciliation, and Reparation in Guatemala." Victor Montejo (Jakaltek Maya) is a professor and past chair of the Native American Studies Department at the University of California, Davis. He was born in Jacaltenango, Huehuetenango, Guatemala. His first language is Jakaltek-Maya or popb'al ti'. He received his M.A. from the State University of New York and his Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut. Montejo was formerly Minister of Peace in the Guatemalan Republic. He also served as a member of the Guatemalan National Congress from January 2004 to January 2008. Montejo is the author of numerous books about Maya history and culture. His work centers on Maya cultural revitalization, the impact of Guatemala's civil war on Maya communities, and the transnational Maya diaspora as a consequence of the war. Montejo's books include Sculpted Stones; Testimony: Death of a Guatemalan Village; The Bird Who Cleans the World and Other Mayan Fables; Voices from Exile: Violence and Survival in Modern Maya History; and Maya Intellectual Renaissance: Identity, Representation, and Leadership. This symposium took place in the Rasmuson Theater of the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC on November 13, 2008.

Title: Antigenicity, structure and immunogenicity of the HIV-1 trimeric envelope glycoprotein spike 4th International Conference on Vaccines & Vaccination September 24-26, 2014 Valencia, Spain OMICS International: http://omicsonline.org Vaccine Conferences: http://conferenceseries.com/immunolog... Global Medical Conferences: http://conferenceseries.com Global Pharmaceutical Conferences: http://pharmaceuticalconferences.com Global Cancer Conferences: http://cancersummit.org Global Diabetes Conferences: http://diabetesexpo.com Global Dental Conferences: http://dentalcongress.com Global Nursing Conferences: http://nursingconference.com Abstract: The development of broadly neutralizing antibodies (bNAbs) to HIV-1 is often thought to be a key component of a successful vaccine. A common target of bNAbs is the conserved primary receptor CD4 binding site (CD4bs) on the HIV envelope glycoprotein (Env) trimeric spike. Although CD4bs-directed bNAbs have been isolated from infected individuals, elicitation of such bNAbs by Env vaccination has proven difficult. To help understand the limitations of current immunogens, we structurally characterized vaccine Env trimer-elicited CD4bs-directed non-bNAbs isolated from primates. We demonstrate that these vaccine-elicited antibodies, which cannot neutralize most circulating HIV isolates, attempt a vertical approach to the CD4bs, thereby clashing with the variable region of the trimeric spike cap. In contrast, CD4bs-directed bNAbs adopt angles of approach lateral to the viral membrane that avoid such clashes and achieve potent and broad neutralization of most HIV primary isolates. This analysis has informed our vaccine design efforts to generate more well-ordered trimers to limit routes of access to the CD4bs. We have developed new designs and methods to generate soluble, properly folded trimers that both present the conserved CD4bs and other trimer-specific, conserved quaternary epitopes on the HIV-1 spike revealed by newly discovered bNAbs. Antigenic, biophysical, structural electron microscopic and immunogenicity analysis of selected trimers will be presented, focusing on the capacity of these trimers to to elicit HIV-1 neutralizing antibodies. Biography: Dr. Wyatt received his Ph.D. in 1991 from Tufts University School of Medicine at the Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences in Boston, MA.
