Fresh apple juice or sweet cider is considered to be the product of sound ripe fruit that has been bottled or packaged with no form of preservation being used other than refrigeration. This type of fresh juice is normally sold in markets not too distant from the producer. Apple juice has been treated by some method to prevent spoilage. Shelf-stable or processed apple juice can be natural juice, clarified juice, crushed juice or frozen apple concentrate. (HUİ ansiklopedi) Natural juice comes from the press and generally only ascorbic acid is added to preserve color. It is then bottled and heat processed. Some forms of natural apple juice are produced with the use of heat pasteurization only. Apple juice production begins with fruit harvesting, transport and washing facilities. However, all fruit must be sound and free from gross damage or contamination. In particular, it should be free from mould or rot which can lead to tainted juices and microbiological instability. Product quality and stability will be influenced by the cleanliness of the ingredients and sanitation in the processing plant. Most fruits accumulate some dust in the field or during trasportation. They should be rinsed thoroughly by sprays of water before crushing.(Macrae and fri.) The fruit should be picked at the proper stage of maturity for the preparation of juice. The flavour, sugar content and pectin levels of the juice will vary with the maturity of the fruit. Ideally, fruit should have been picked when fully ripe, with dark brown seeds and no residual starch as detected by an iodine test. Fruit which is picked slightly under-ripe for the dessert market or for controlled atmosphere storage should therefore be allowed to mature for a few days at ambient temperature before pressing.(Hicks) A diagram depicting the processing steps for apple juice and juice concentrate is shown in figure ….. . Since apple juice concentrate is so widely available, it is relatively easy to set specifications for a juice in terms of its sugar and acid levels and to ensure consistency by blending different concentrates with water or fresh juice to required spesification. The blending and dilution of concentrates must be carried out before final filtration or the juice may become turbid on storage. The aroma essence, however, should be dosed into the juice line after the final mixing and filtration stages, to avoid losses by evaporation and adsorption by filter aids which have a high affinity for many of the small polar molecules which are responsible for volatile flavour. I'm Natalia Rose. And today, we're going to talk about how long homemade juices will last. Most homemade juices are made by centrifugal juicer, which heats up the juice slightly while it's being made. This is why you want to consume a centrifugally processed juice as soon after making it as possible. As soon as it's made, the juice will start to oxidize. The more it's exposed to air, the quicker it will oxidize. Now, there are a few tricks to help your juice last longer. One that would be to make sure that you put it in a container that is very well sealed and doesn't have any extra air in it. So fill it up to the top of the container as possible so that it exposes little air as possible. Another thing you can do if you want your juice to last a couple of days would be to immediately freeze it. Freezing a juice will compromise its enzymatic activity a bit, but it will enable most of the juice to stay in integrity and certainly will enable to last a whole lot longer. The other type of juicer would be a cold press juicer like a Norwalk Press. As more and more people are juicing, more and more people are using the Norwalk Press at home, which is more of a commercial juicer. But the great thing about the Norwalk Press Juicer, the cold press juicing, is it enables the enzymes to stay intact for a much longer duration. Adding lemon or lime to your juice will extend its duration as well because of the citric acid. And a green juice that has no fruit in it will last longer than a green juice that does have fruit in it. So those are a few things you can keep in mind. One way to test and see whether your juice is still fresh just simply to taste it. If there's any fermentation, it's past its prime. If you do choose to consume a juice made from a centrifugal force juicer, the next day, the juice won't be bad by any means. It will just have significantly lost its vitality. So it's still safe to consume and can be fairly beneficial, it will have some vitality, and it will still be full of chlorophyll, but it just won't have the same zip, the same life force it would have immediately upon consumption.

♥ ** Remeber to LIKE, COMMENT, and SUBSCRIBE ** ♥ EXPAND for more infos ♥ http://www.beautyfoodtips.com My cosmetic line: http://www.beautiliciousdelights.com ******************************************************************** This video tutorial is a reply to some requests I've received from some of you on how to preserve properly homemade cosmetics and home remedies. In this tutorial I share with you for which products you need to use an antioxidant and in which products you have to use a preservative, what you should know when choosing a preservative, which criteria you should follow when choosing one and what it's important to consider when using specific preservatives and other useful information ;) When deciding which preservative is the most appropriate for your product, there is 1 question you should ask yourself: is there water in my formula? If there is not, then an antioxidant will be enough to preserve your product from going rancid. Usually lip balms, whipped butters, stick balms are made up only of vegetable oils, butters and eventually waxes. No water involved :D. The most used antioxidants are vitamin E and rosemary extract (which will impart its own aroma into your products and will make them smell of rosemary). Adding them to your products will slow down the oxidation process, but don't forget they are as useful for your skin too. ;) Remember that antioxidants can't kill bacteria and molds, should you consider adding them (erroneously) as a preservative in water based cosmetic. Preservatives do extend the shelf life of homemade products and keep them free of bacteria, but remember that preservatives themselves are often unhealthy. Many may cause or promote skin problems, therefore it's very important to choose them being fully aware of what they are made up of, if they are parabens free and if you care, if they are ecological or not. Natural preservatives, among which essential oils (such as tea tree, thyme, neem) are considered too, don't cover a broad spectrum of bacteria and the amounts needed to make them act as a preservative are usually too high and not safe to use in skin care products. If you decide to anyway use them, consider a short shelf life for your products. Today we are going to discuss an interesting phenomena that many of use have experiences in our garden. You take a bight of that tomato, apple or carrot and it has such a vibrant flavour you wonder how you will ever eat them from the grocery store again? Then you wonder why the fruit and vegetables you enjoy in the garden tastes better then store bought. Although there are many crop specific reasons there are three general reasons why this is the case. The first is the crops you select. The University of Texas completed a study evaluating the USDA nutrient content data from 43 different garden crops between 1950 and 1999. What they found is in the time frame there was a significant drop in the nutrient content of the 43 crops. The researchers were able to show that the nutrient content of crops is as a result of the genetic variability. So the genetics of the crops control the nutrient levels of their produce. This is supported by some of the findings of the home garden field trials this year. We found although there were differences in macro and micro elements in the soil it did not impact the nutrient density of the pepper tissue we sampled. So how does this impact the flavour of your crops? I think it is fair to say most of us grow crop varieties that are not found in stores. I myself find more heirloom crops in my garden year after year. the genetic diversity of heirloom crop varieties allow us to safely associate these with the genetic pool from the 1950s. The crops found in todays grocery stores were then developed into the more shelf stable commercial crops and constitute the newer varieties tested. The researchers found that the increased nutrient content of these crops impacted levels of more complex molecules like ascorbic acid that impact things like pH and flavour. Generally associating higher nutrient content with better flavour indicators. The second is the harvest time. Store bought produce is generally harvested and shipped long distances. As such in order for the crops to be ripe when purchased and to have the longest shelf time once at the store they are often picked prior to ripeness. The university of California Davis studied the relationship between ripeness and flavour. They found that their panelists described tomatoes that were picked and ripened off the vine as less sweet, more sour and less “tomato-like” then the crops picked at peak ripeness. This caused by the early harvest as the development of flavour influencing compounds stop when the crop is removed from the plant. Ripening will continue however sugar and ascorbic acid levels do not change in the tomatoes. You can test this using a Brix meter that measures the sugar content of your crops. the higher the number the more sugar the crop has. If you pick a tomato from the store and one that is ripe in your garden you should see the garden score much higher . This results in a reduced flavour in early harvest crops even in a side by side comparison of tomatoes from the same plant. The third is the achievement factor. Although I don't have a paper or research supporting this I think you might agree with me on the third reason. The sense of achievement is a strong one. Having cared for grown and harvested produce from your own garden leaves me with a sense of satisfaction that is hard to describe. There have been plenty of studies to suggest that subjects in a positive mood have correlated positive biophysical consequences. This may result in a heightened sense of taste. So to answer the original question of why produce from our gardens taste better then store bought produce. it is likely what we can assume a sense of achievement helps enhance the flavour of the higher genetic potential heirlooms harvested at peak ripeness. Passion Fruit 101 - What You Need to Know. Passion fruit is a nutritious tropical fruit. It's gaining popularity, especially among those who are health conscious. Despite its small size, it's a rich source of antioxidants and contains a range of vitamins and plant compounds that could benefit your health. This article is a detailed review of passion fruit. What Is Passion Fruit? This tropical fruit is actually considered a type of berry, according to botanists. It is the fruit of the Passiflora vine, a type of passion flower. It has a tough outer rind and juicy, seed-filled center. There are several types, which can vary in size and color. The most commonly available are the purple and yellow varieties. These are: • Passiflora edulis: Small round or oval-shaped fruits with purple skin. • Passiflora flavicarpa: Usually slightly larger than the purple variety, these are round or oval-shaped with yellow skin. This is what passion fruit looks like: Although they are a tropical fruit, some varieties can survive in a sub-tropical climate. Because of this, they are grown all over the world and crops can be found in South and North America, Asia, Europe and Australia. Bottom Line: Passion fruit is a type of tropical fruit grown all over the world. It has a hard, colorful rind and a juicy, seed-filled center. Passion Fruit Is Highly Nutritious. Passion fruit is a good source of nutrients, especially fiber, vitamin C and vitamin A. A single purple passion fruit of about 18 grams contains: • Calories: 17. • Fiber: 2 grams. • Vitamin C: 9% of the RDI. • Vitamin A: 8% of the RDI. • Iron: 2% of the RDI. • Potassium: 2% of the RDI. This may not seem like much, but these are the values for a single, small fruit that contains only 17 calories. Calorie for calorie, it's a good source of fiber, vitamin C and vitamin A. It's also rich in beneficial plant compounds, including carotenoids and polyphenols. In fact, one analysis found that passion fruit was richer in polyphenols than many other tropical fruits, including banana, lychee, mango, papaya and pineapple. Additionally, passion fruit contains a small amount of iron. Your body doesn't usually absorb iron from plants very well. However, the iron in passion fruit comes with a lot of vitamin C, which is known to enhance iron's absorption. Bottom Line: Passion fruit is a good source of fiber, vitamin C and vitamin A. Calorie for calorie, it's a nutrient-dense fruit. Health Benefits of Passion Fruit. The nutrition profile of passion fruit means it has some great health benefits. It's a Rich Source of Antioxidants. Antioxidants protect your body from free radicals, unstable molecules that can damage your cells when they are present in large numbers. Passion fruit contains a lot of antioxidants. In particular, it's a rich source of vitamin C, beta-carotene and polyphenols. Polyphenols are plant compounds that have a range of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. This means they may protect against chronic inflammation and diseases like heart disease and cancer. Vitamin C is an important antioxidant that you need to get from your diet. It helps support a healthy immune system and healthy aging. Beta-carotene is also an important antioxidant. In your body, it is converted to vitamin A, which is essential for preserving good eyesight. Diets that contain lots of beta-carotenes from plant foods have been linked with a lower risk of some cancers. These include prostate, colon, stomach and breast cancer. It's a Good Source of Dietary Fiber. A single 18-gram serving of passion fruit contains around 2 grams of fiber, most of which is soluble fiber. This is quite a large amount for such a small fruit. Fiber is important for keeping your gut healthy and preventing constipation, yet most people don't eat enough of it. Soluble fiber helps slow the digestion of your food, which can prevent blood sugar spikes. Diets that are high in fiber are also associated with a lower risk of diseases including heart disease, diabetes and obesity. Bottom Line: Passion fruit is a rich source of antioxidants and dietary fiber. Diets rich in these nutrients have been linked with a lower risk of diseases like heart disease and diabetes. Passion Fruit Peel Supplement May Help Reduce Inflammation. The high antioxidant content of passion fruit peels may give them powerful anti-inflammatory effects when they're taken as a supplement. One small study investigated the effects of a purple passion fruit peel supplement on symptoms of asthma over four weeks. The group who took the supplement experienced a reduction in wheezing, coughing and shortness of breath. However, this was a very small study, so further research is required before it's known if this therapy is helpful for those with asthma. Stay connected: Subscribe: https://goo.gl/RUzMHY Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MyHomeRemediesnow/

So many people are interested in creating their own Vitamin C Serums or Vitamin C Antioxidants. But is it possible? Can you really make a potent one at home? In this episode of DermTV, Dr. Schultz discusses these questions. Subscribe to DermTV: http://www.youtube.com/dermtvdotcom http://DermTV.com Connect with DermTV: http://www.facebook.com/dermtv http://www.twitter.com/dermtv [TRANSCRIPT] So many viewers ask me questions about how to make their own topical vitamin c products. I'm not sure if it's because commercially available products tend to be fairly expensive or maybe, because oral forms of vitamin c are so readily available, that it just seems logical that you should be able to make your own serum. Today I'll give you my take. Let's start exploring this topic with simply dissolving the crystals of vitamin c that are in this capsule or tablet, in water... ...If you put the resulting solution of dissolved vitamin c on your skin, as soon as the water evaporates, the vitamin c that was dissolved in the water will re crystallize on your skin before it can be absorbed. Since crystallized vitamin c can't be absorbed into your skin, it can't work as an antioxidant. See, you need a carrier to hold the vitamin c molecule in the solution so it can penetrate into your skin cells. If you have sufficient chemistry skills to grind up vitamin c... ...and use a carrier like propylene glycol or glycerin, and you know how to calculate and measure the amount of ascorbic acid you need, you can solubilize it and mix it properly. That in theory, could yield a functioning, topical vitamin c product. However, the problem here is that you are JUST going to have ascorbic acid, regular vitamin c, which is water soluble so it doesn't penetrate the lipid membranes of skin cells very well. Because it's acidic, it can be irritating when applied to the skin. And lastly, the acidic form is unstable because it's very quickly oxidized, and thereby inactivated. For those reasons, if you're going to make a topical vitamin c product, you really want to use the ester form of vitamin c, not the acid form. The advantages to esters are that, first, because they are fat soluble, they better penetrate the lipid based barrier of your skin. Second, because they are not acidic they tend to be less irritating. And third, the fatty groups on the esters increase the stability of the vitamin c so its not as easily oxidized and inactivated. At the end of the day, when the vitamin c ester is absorbed into the skin, it then is changed back to regular ascorbic acid, so what you've done is in a non irritating fashion... you've effected better penetration at higher levels and maintained stability by using an esterified form. Creating this is beyond the scope of most amateur chemists. The final reason to not DIY vitamin c is that since it's so difficult to assess the efficacy of topical antioxidants, especially at home, by using a DIY vitamin c product, while they might feel nice, you could go on for months or years wasting your time with a product that doesn't work. So your take away today is, why take a chance on a product you don't know and miss out on the very valuable benefits available from professionally prepared topical antioxidants. Secondly particularly in monsoon season when due to heavy rains fresh vegetables are hardly available at that time we can enjoy such preserved Vegetables. It is noteworthy that most of the vegetables we preserve for 15 days to 25 days maximum ,but lemon and green pease when we have preserved as per shown in video we can use them up to 6 months and they will be as fresh. Thirdlyit is very very much beneficial that the lemon preserved in this way become hard then we use them by grating along with outer peal and you will be surprised to know that the lemon juice only has 10% of vitamin C and other nutrients but lemon is used with peal with grating it gives 100% of vitamin C and nutrients because the outer peal of lemon is having 90% of vitamin C and nutrients. Grated lemon used in this way becomes more taster.

This week Reactions explores the chemistry and science that goes on to the nutrients when you cook vegetables. Vegetables are chock-full of essential vitamins and minerals, but how should you eat them to get the most nutritious bang for your buck? Raw? Sauteed? Frozen? You might want to eat those fresh green beans right away, for one — flash-frozen green beans kept for months have up to three times more vitamin C than week-old beans kept in the fridge. And did you know that oil-based dressing and avocados can help you absorb more nutrients from that kale salad. Sodium benzoate (also known as e211) is a substance that has the chemical formula NaC7H5O2. It is a synthetic chemical produced when benzoic acid, that is found naturally in some spices and fruits, is combined with sodium hydroxide. Uses - Under acidic conditions, it inhibits the growth of mold, bacteria, and yeast, extending a product's shelf life. It is most widely used in acidic foods, like - carbonated drinks, salad dressings, pickles, jams and fruit juices, and condiments. Less commonly, this substance is used as a medication to treat hyperammonemia, a rare condition which causes excess ammonia to accumulate in the blood. FDA has granted sodium benzoate GRAS status, and the safe limit in food is 0.1% by weight. In addition, foods have concentrations far lower--more like 0.025 percent to 0.05 percent. Allergy - some studies have concluded that sodium benzoate intolerance can cause skin reactions, like - hives, otherwise known as urticaria. For instance, a study issued in 1984 in the journal "Allergy" found that 4 out of 27 children experienced urticaria in response to this substance. Moreover, research has shown that sodium benzoate, along with artificial food colorings, can cause children with ADHD to be more hyperactive. More importantly, a professor at the University of Sheffield established that consuming foods with this substance may damage the DNA structure and leads to neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson's disease. Note - To reduce the risk of benzene exposure, avoid buying soft drinks that list both sodium benzoate and ascorbic acid as ingredients because when sodium benzoate combines with ascorbic acid (the synthetic form of vitamin C) benzene can form. Benzene damages the bone marrow and can cause a decrease in red blood cells, leading to anemia. In addition, benzene can cause excessive bleeding and depress the immune system, increasing the chance of infection. Thank you. NOTE: GARLIC SHOULD NEVER BE CANNED EITHER BY WATER BATH OR PRESSURE CANNING METHODS!!! Do you like to buy the prepared minced garlic from the grocery store like I do? I make no secret of the fact that I love my giant jar of garlic that is ready to go whenever I need to plop a spoonful into the skillet! I am not ashamed and you shouldn't be either. However, sometimes I don't know where the garlic has originated from and sometimes I have some garlic that needs to be dealt with and that is the case that brought on this tutorial. I like to purchase the already peeled garlic cloves that come in bags in the fresh produce section of my market. I ended up having a bunch left that needed to be used up so I chopped it super fine with my knife and stuck it into a jelly jar. I wanted to make sure it could be preserved for at least a week so I added a bit of water and a 1/8 teaspoon of citric acid and gave it a good stir. When I went to use it a few days later I realized that my homemade version of ready garlic was pure white and beautiful. Not yellow and dingy looking like the grocery store version. I will be making my own ready garlic from now on and this is how I did it! You might think that you don't have citric acid in your kitchen, but if you are a home canner, reach for that jar of "Fruit Fresh" and that will do the trick. Vinegar and/or lemon juice is not going to work here and will not prolong the shelf life of the garlic like the citric acid will. Neither will Ascorbic acid. Citric acid is what you will need. I believe that this pint jar of garlic I made today will safely last in my fridge for three months. You should only prepare as much as you feel you will use in a certain amount of time. I would not go past the three months. I hope you give this homemade hack a try and I hope you love it! Happy Eating! Sodium Benzoate side effects. References: http://www.yourhealthremedy.com/harmful-compounds/sodium-benzoate-e211-side-effects/ http://www.awakeningstate.com/health/sodium-benzoate/ Sodium benzoate is a widely used food preservative, with an E number of E211. This chemical can be produced by reacting benzoic acid with sodium hydroxide. Uses Sodium benzoate is used as a preservative in a variety of foods, condiments, beverages, and cosmetics (mouthwash, body lotions, shampoo, and deodorant). Also, it is the main ingredient of different paint stripper products, spot removers, and rubber cements, due to its highly solvent and destructive characteristics. This compound is also used as a treatment for UCD – urea cycle disorders, a disease that affects how the body removes the waste that results from breaking down protein. Side effects In combination with vitamin C, E211 and potassium benzoate may form benzene, a known carcinogen, which, for instance, has caused cancer in workers exposed to high levels. A study published in 2007 and conducted by the UK’s FSA – Food Standards Agency demonstrates that a combination of certain artificial colors and this chemical may be strongly associated with ADHD – attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. In combination with vitamin C, E211 and potassium benzoate may form benzene, a known carcinogen, which, for instance, has caused cancer in workers exposed to high levels. Collagen is the most abundant protein in our bodies, it's what helps give our skin strength and elasticity, along with replacing dead skin cells. Our body’s collagen production naturally begins to slow down as we age. That's when we begin to see signs of aging....fine lines, wrinkles, sagging skin, etc. Generally speaking, collagen production in the body slows down around age 20. In fact, between the ages of 20 to 29 , we can lose one percent of collagen per year. When we start to lose collagen the second layer of our skin, the dermis, begins to decrease in size. Since the dermis makes up the largest portion of our skin, our skin begins to look thinner. Ways to Prevent Collagen Loss and Preserve what we already have: Limit Sun Exposure - Wear a good sunscreen to protect collagen degredation - Avoid sun exposure between 10-3. Cut back on Sugar: "Sugar can permanently attach to collagen. When collagen is weighed down by glucose it becomes rigid and inflexible, resulting in dull, dry and ageing skin." Hydration: "The more hydrated your skin is, the better environment it gives for collagen and elastin to thrive." Good Sleeping habits - We should be getting at least 7 hours a night to help our body repair themselves. There's a reason it's called beauty sleep. Your body repairs itself and recovers while you sleep. Also, when you sleep your body releases growth hormone (which is something else that decreases with age), growth hormone also helps to repair and rebuild body tissue and also stimulates collagen formation. Take a Collagen Supplement: Find a collagen supplement that works well for you. Take Vitamin C. Take Biotin and Zinc. Food: Food can both protect and preserve the collagen you already have, as well as encourage new collagen production. Citrus Fruits help amino acids to convert collagen Eggs (egg whites) - help amino acids to convert collagen, but are also high in collagen Fish - like Salmon and Tuna that are rich in Omega 3 fatty acids - which help to create stronger cells by protecting them Soy - contains anti-oxidants which fight free radicals and prompts collagen production Berries - Bluberries, black berries and rasberries (fight free radicals and simultaneously encourage collagen production) Dark Leafy Greens - Spinach and Kale - rich in vitamin c - help with collagen growth Orange Vegatables like Sweet Potatoes and Carrots - rich in vitamin A, which restores and regenerates damaged collagen. Dark Chocolate - high in antioxidants and it helps promote collagen

8 Foods And Vegetables That Can Be Eaten Raw The debate is still on about whether raw food is better or cooked, but most nutritionists suggest a mix of both. Some foods, when eaten raw, helps preserve their nutrients and also allows your body to absorb them better. While there’s a long list of foods you can cook and eat, this list tells you about 8 foods which are rich in nutrients that benefit you the most when had in their natural form. The debate is still on about whether raw food is better or cooked, but most nutritionists suggest a mix of both. Some foods, when eaten raw, helps preserve their nutrients and also allows your body to absorb them better. While there’s a long list of foods you can cook and eat, this list tells you about 8 foods which are rich in nutrients that benefit you the most when had in their natural form. 2. Red Peppers Like spinach, red peppers are also rich in vitamin C but are low on calories which makes them a great heath food. A medium sized red pepper has only about 32 calories but contains about 95% of the recommended daily value of vitamin C. The National Institutes of Health says that when red peppers are cooked, the vitamin C, which is in the form of ascorbic acid, breaks down.Having red peppers raw preserves its antioxidant properties and helps cure anemia 3. Blueberries When compared to other fruits, blueberries have the most amount of antioxidants. They also contain healthy fiber and polyphenols which offer several health benefits. However, research by the Journal of Food Science showed that processing of blueberries left only 36 to 39% of polyphenols when compared to the raw fruit. That’s why it’s best to have blueberries raw and preferably, fresh. 4. Coconut Coconuts provide the best hydration when compared to any other natural food and can compete against even sports drinks for their hydration properties. The natural electrolytes present in coconut water not only hydrate the body but also are the closest natural substitute to what your body produces. Coconuts also contain several other nutrients and healthy fats which can lower cholesterol levels. Coconuts are best had raw as many of these benefits are lost when coconuts are dried and processed. 5. Seaweed Seaweeds like wakame, arame, and nori are one of the greatest sources of chlorophyll available. They are also high on protein ranging from 20% in green algae to 70% in spirulina. They contain many essential minerals like calcium, iodine, magnesium, and iron along with being rich in vitamin C. Having seaweed raw preserves the natural nutrient content. 6. Onions Onions are a major source of flavanoids which have strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Eating onions raw lowers the production of bad cholesterol (LDL), thus reducing the risk of heart disease. Onions also contain a powerful cancer fighting compound called quercetin. Because vitamin C is soluble to water, it is easily removed from the body. Therefore, you should eat vitamin C-rich foods on daily basis to prevent deficiency. Foods that contain high amount of vitamin C include: citrus fruits, orange juice, grapefruit juice, sweet peppers, papayas, peaches, strawberries and broccoli. In addition, you can get vitamin C from many supplements. Vitamin C, also referred to as 'ascorbic acid', is an important nutrient required by the body. This water-soluble nutrient acts a powerful antioxidant needed for the development and maintenance of arteriole, scar tissues and cartilage. Certain fruits and vegetable packed with Vitamin C can help us fulfill our daily requirements. These include Kiwi fruit, broccoli, guava, yellow bell peppers, dark green leafy vegetables like spinach, Swiss chard and turnip greens, tomatoes, strawberries and papaya. Delhi-based Nutritionist and Diet Consultant, Nidhi Sawhney explains, "The human body doesn't have the capacity to generate Vitamin C. Therefore, it needs to be received through food and other supplements. It's also important to cook the food at low temperatures and for short time to preserve the Vitamin C content in foods as it is a heat-sensitive nutrient." One of the trickiest things to brew is a SWEET HARD APPLE CIDER without using preservatives and artificial sweeteners. My easy recipe and process detailed below makes a delicious sweet cider that is shelf-stable and comes out great every time. I hope you try it and enjoy it as much as I do. Please Like, Comment and Subscribe:-) Bearded and Bored Sweet Hard Apple Cider - 6%ABV: 1 gallon apple juice - NO PRESERVATIVES other than Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) 1 packet - Lavlin EC-1118 yeast - https://amzn.to/2Ii0893 1 tsp - Yeast Nutrient - https://amzn.to/2rJdDYp 1/2 tsp - Pectic Enzyme - https://amzn.to/2GdIVMh 1 can - Frozen Apple Juice Concentrate - thaw on bottling day Bucket Spigot - https://amzn.to/2IBceO5 Air Lock - https://amzn.to/2IDVzJD 1. Combine all ingredients in your fermentation vessel and shake to aerate and mix thoroughly. Store in a dark place for at least a month to allow fermentation to complete and cider to clear. 2. When fermentation is complete combine hard cider and thawed out apple juice concentrate and bottle the mixture, making sure the first bottle is a plastic soda bottle and the rest are glass. Make sure the soda bottle cap is tightened securely. (FYI-DO NOT PASTEURIZE THE PLASTIC BOTTLE! Store it in the fridge to stall fermentation.) 3. For the next 4-6 days (depending on room temperature) test the carbonation level by squeezing the cider-filled soda bottle. When it feels as firm as a new unopened soda, the carbonation is complete. At this point you can store the bottles in the refrigerator to greatly slow further carbonation, but you MUST pasteurize to stop it completely. Pasteurization: This process can pose a risk of bodily injury. Exercise caution when handling glass bottles around a heat source. If you want to store the bottles _outside_ of the fridge, or plan on giving them away to friends you must completely stop fermentation in the bottles by pasteurizing them to preserve the flavor, sweetness and carbonation level. If you don’t, the yeast in each bottle will continue to eat the remaining sugars to produce more carbon dioxide and alcohol. This has the potential to make the bottles EXPLODE! Since you don’t know if your buddy will store your cider gift in his hot garage, you should always pasteurize gift brews. 1. To pasteurize, simply heat a large pot of water to 180F (82C), TURN OFF THE HEAT, carefully add no more than 4-5 bottles to the pot (GLASS BOTTLES ONLY), cover and let sit for 10 minutes. 2. After 10 minutes carefully remove the bottles and allow them to cool on the counter overnight. 3. Repeat the process for the remaining bottles by bringing the water back to 180F, turn off the heat and add new bottles to pasteurize. Always make sure the water is at 180F before adding new bottles. Now that the yeast is dead and fermentation has stopped permanently you can store your shelf-stable bottles of cider anywhere. Disclaimer: This information is provided for entertainment purposes only. This process is inherently dangerous and can pose a risk of bodily injury if the bottles explode in the pot. If you attempt this project, you assume all risk. TWITTER - https://twitter.com/BeardedNBored Want to help support my channel? 9 Foods With More Vitamin C Than An Orange Receive free books: Hi When you think vitamin C, you inevitably think oranges. But what if we told you that this fruit is just kinda meh in the C department compared to some other produce picks? It's true. While oranges clock in at a very respectable 70 mg of vitamin C per medium fruit (the recommended daily value is 60 mg), every single one of these 9 refreshing fruits and veggies (you can add them to these smoothies) contains more per serving—so hit your quota however you see fit! And now is the perfect time to start loading up, since getting enough vitamin C has been shown to help counter the effects of heat exhaustion and even repair sunburn-induced skin damage. (Lose up to 25 pounds in 2 months—and look more radiant than ever—with the new Younger In 8 Weeks plan!) Strawberries These ruby-hued berries pack 85 mg of vitamin C per cup, along with a hefty dose of manganese, which can help keep blood sugar stable. Just be sure to buy an organic variety—the Environmental Working Group just ranked conventional strawberries as the #1 most pesticide-loaded produce item. Pineapple Fresh, tropical, juicy pineapple contains 79 mg of vitamin C per cup. And unlike most other fruits, it also contains significant amounts of the enzyme bromelain, which may help aid protein digestion. Bring on the piña coladas! Or this delish Pineapple-Basil Smoothie. Kholrabi In the looks department, kholrabi isn't anything to write home about. But it's what's on the inside that counts, right? This alien-esque member of the Brassica family boasts 84 mg of vitamin C per cup. And like its Brassica brethren, it possesses cancer-fighting properties. But how the heck do you eat it? Try using it in place of cabbage in slaws, spiralize it into veggie noodles, or simply cut it into chunks and sauté in olive oil. Mango Sweet, succulent mangoes contain 122 mg of vitamin C per fruit. They're also a potent source of zeaxanthan, an antioxidant that helps keep your eyes healthy by filtering out harmful blue light rays that contribute to macular degeneration. Not sure peeling is worth the effort? Don't sweat it—the frozen variety is just as healthy and makes an awesome addition to smoothies. Brussels sprouts As if you needed another reason to love brussels sprouts. A cup of these bad boys contains 75 mg of vitamin C, along with cancer-fighting nutrients—just like kohlrabi! If it's too hot to make your go-to roasted sprouts with bacon, try out this delicious no-cook Brussels Sprout and Prosciutto Slaw with Hazelnut Dressing. Kiwifruit Just two of these pint-sized superfruits pack 128 mg of vitamin C. Research also shows that kiwis help you fall asleep more quickly and improve sleep quality, likely due to their high levels of serotonin, a hormone that plays a role in initiating sleep onset. Papaya Like its tropical cousins mango and pineapple, papaya is a heavy hitter in the vitamin C department—packing 95 mg per small fruit. It also contains the enzymes papain and chymopapain, which reduce inflammation. Try it out in this Papaya Pleasure smoothie, loaded with ingredients to give you glowing skin. Bell peppers All bell peppers—green, yellow, red, and orange—contain more vitamin C than an orange, ranging from 95 mg in a green to a whopping 341 mg in a yellow. They're also super low-cal, containing just 45 calories per cup, making them the perfect snack to quell a case of the munchies. Broccoli A cup of chopped, raw broccoli florets has about 81 mg of vitamin C, along with more vitamin K—important for bone health and proper blood clotting—than you need in an entire day. Up your broccoli game my making this simple Broccoli Peanut Salad—perfect for summer cookouts. http://www.VeeMD.wordpress.com Dr. Vandana Bhide talks to Bruce Hamilton on the WJXT Channel 4 Morning Show about superfruits, which are fruits that are packed with nutrients and antioxidants. Here are the top ten super fruits for health: Free radicals are toxic molecules created in the body when food is digested and energy is created. Antioxidants are ingredients in fruits that fight the damage created by free radicals. If free radicals aren't neutralized by antioxidants in the body, cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer's disease and eye problems can develop. Eating super fruits can help reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer and Alzheimer's Disease. They also boost the immune system to help fight infections. Many fruits have high levels of potassium, which helps maintain normal blood pressure. 1. Blackberries--Purple berries have the highest antioxidant content of any food, so when it comes to fruits and vegetables, purple is the new green. Antioxidants called anthocyanins give blackberries that deep purple color and protect against heart disease and cancer. Blueberries, raspberries, strawberries and cranberries also have high levels of antioxidants. Cranberries may help prevent bladder infections. 2. Tomatoes--(fruit though we think of as vegetable). Red fruit such as tomatoes have an antioxidant called lycopene which helps prevent heart disease and certain types of cancer. Cooking tomatoes increases antioxidant levels. 3. Avocado--Avocadoes contain more protein than a steak! Avocados have essential amino acids (can only eat in the food, not made naturally in the body) to build muscle. Contain heart healthy omega 3 fatty acids which help lower bad cholesterol levels. Antioxidants in avocadoes are also good for the skin. 4. Red grapes and grape juice—Contains resveratrol, the same antioxidant found in red wine, which protects against heart disease. The skin of red grapes are packed with antioxidants. 5. Pomegranates--Contains antioxidants called polyphenols that help fight heart disease. The potassium in pomegranates is good for maintaining normal blood pressure. 6. Kiwi-- Can be mashed and spread on meat as a natural tenderizer. Mild flavor so kids will enjoy. Kiwi contain antioxidants to help vision and prevent heart disease. 7. Chili Peppers—All peppers have seeds so are considered fruit (though we often cook them like vegetables). Chili peppers contain an antioxidant called capsaicin, which decreases inflammation and pain due to arthritis. Peppers also increase endorphin levels in the brain so may help improve mood. Can be used as a natural remedy for nasal congestion. Contain more vitamin C than oranges! 8. Figs—Contain the antioxidant lutein that helps maintain good vision. High in iron, fiber, potassium and calcium. 9. Oranges—high in vitamin C to help boost the immune system. May be helpful in reducing the inflammation associated with asthma and rheumatoid arthritis. Vitamin C helps the absorption of iron from the stomach. 10. Apples—Contains pectin, a soluble fiber that lowers cholesterol and stabilizes blood sugar levels. Antioxidants in apples help preserve brain and memory function. Lots of nutrients in the peel of apples, so better to leave the peels on. Passion fruit vine with passion fruit, lemons, orchids and bromiliads... Passion fruit: Passiflora edulis or Passion fruit is a vine species of passion flower that is native to Brazil, Paraguay and northern Argentina (Corrientes and Misiones provinces, among others). Its common names include passion fruit (UK and US), passionfruit (Australia and New Zealand), and purple granadilla (South Africa). It is cultivated commercially in warmer, frost-free areas for its fruit and Fresh passion fruit is high in beta carotene, potassium, and dietary fibre. Passion fruit juice is a good source of ascorbic acid (vitamin C), and good for people who have high blood pressure. Some research is showing that purple passion fruit peel may help with controlling asthma symptoms. The fruit contains Lycopene in the mature and immature pericarp. The passion fruit is round to oval, either yellow or dark purple at maturity, with a soft to firm, juicy interior filled with numerous seeds. The fruit is both eaten and juiced; passion fruit juice is often added to other fruit juices to enhance the aroma. The two types of passion fruit have clearly differing exterior appearances. The bright yellow variety of passion fruit, which is also known as the Golden Passion Fruit, can grow up to the size of a grapefruit, has a smooth, glossy, light and airy rind, and has been used as a rootstock for the Purple Passion Fruit in Australia. The dark purple passion fruit is smaller than a lemon, though it is less acidic than the yellow passion fruit, and has a richer aroma and flavour. The purple varieties of the fruit have been found to contain traces of cyanogenic glycosides in the skin. Lemons: The lemon is a small evergreen tree native to Asia, and the tree's ellipsoidal yellow fruit. The fruit's juice, pulp and peel, especially the zest, are used as foods. The juice of the lemon is about 5% to 6% citric acid, which gives lemons a sour taste. The distinctive sour taste of lemon juice makes it a key ingredient in drinks and foods such as lemonade. Lemon juice, rind, and zest are used in a wide variety of food and drink. Lemon juice is used to make lemonade, soft drinks, and cocktails. It is used in marinades for fish, where its acid neutralizes amines in fish by converting them into non-volatile ammonium salts, and meat, where the acid partially hydrolyzes tough collagen fibers, tenderizing the meat, but the low pH denatures the proteins, causing them to dry out when cooked. Lemon juice is frequently used in the United Kingdom to add to pancakes, especially on Shrove Tuesday. Lemon juice is also used as a short-term preservative on certain foods that tend to oxidize and turn brown after being sliced, such as apples, bananas and avocados, where its acid denatures the enzymes that cause browning and degradation. Lemon juice and rind are used to make marmalade and lemon liqueur. Lemon slices and lemon rind are used as a garnish for food and drinks. Lemon zest, the grated outer rind of the fruit, is used to add flavor to baked goods, puddings, rice and other dishes. Preserved lemons are a part of Moroccan cuisine. They are also one of the main ingredients in many Indian cuisines. Either lemon pickle or mango pickle is part of everyday lunches in Southern India. The leaves of the lemon tree are used to make a tea and for preparing cooked meats and seafoods. Sikkim: Sikkim is a landlocked Indian state located in the Himalayan mountains. The state borders Nepal to the west, China's Tibet Autonomous Region to the north and east, and Bhutan to the southeast. The Indian state of West Bengal lies to the south. With around 607,000 inhabitants as of 2011, Sikkim is the least populous state in India and the second-smallest state after Goa in total area, covering approximately 7,096 km2 (2,740 sq mi). Sikkim is nonetheless geographically diverse due to its location in the Himalayas; the climate ranges from subtropical to high alpine, and Kangchenjunga, the world's third-highest peak, is located on Sikkim's border with Nepal. Sikkim is a popular tourist destination, owing to its culture, scenery and biodiversity. It also has the only open land border between India and China. Sikkim's capital and largest city is Gangtok.
