15 Amazing Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) Benefits The health benefits of vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid include prevention and treatment of scurvy, common cold, lead toxicity, and cancer. It aids in boosting the immune system, lowering hypertension, curing cataracts, combating stroke, maintaining the elasticity of skin, healing wounds, and controlling the symptoms of asthma. Vitamin C or ascorbic acid is one of the most effective and safest nutrients. It is a water-soluble vitamin and a powerful antioxidant in the synthesis of collagen, which helps to make blood vessels and body muscles strong. The human body doesn’t have the capacity to generate vitamin C. Therefore, it needs to be received through food and other supplements. Important Sources of Vitamin C The important sources of vitamin C are citrus fruits such as oranges and grapes. Strawberries, raspberries, cabbages, cauliflowers, other leafy vegetables, red peppers, potatoes, broccoli, chilies, watercresses, parsley, brussels sprouts, cantaloupes, mange touts, and kiwi fruits are also rich sources of this vitamin. Cooking food at low temperatures and for a shorter period is important to keep the vitamin C preserved and beneficial. Health Benefits of Vitamin C The health benefits of this amazing antioxidant are explained in detail below: Prevents Scurvy Scurvy is caused by an insufficient intake of ascorbic acid. The symptoms of scurvy appear due to the weakening of connective tissues, bones, and blood vessels that include collagen. Vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant, is required for the production of collagen. Treats Common Cold Vitamin C enhances the immune system of our body, which protects us from cold and cough. It facilitates the absorption of iron and, therefore, strengthens the body’s resistance to infection. It also fights against viruses. Lowers Hypertension People with hypertension are at a high risk of developing cardiovascular diseases. Vitamin C intake helps in lowering body’s blood pressure. Treats Vasodilation Treatment with vitamin C has effectively resulted in the proper dilation of blood vessels in the cases of atherosclerosis, congestive heart failure, high cholesterol, angina pectoris, and high blood pressure. Results have found that supplements of this vitamin improve blood vessel dilation and protect cardiovascular health. Cures Lead Toxicity Lead toxicity is a severe health problem found mostly in children, especially in urban areas. Abnormal development and growth have been found in some children who are exposed to lead. They develop behavioral problems, learning disabilities, and also tend to have a low IQ. It may damage the kidneys and increase blood pressure in adults. Vitamin C supplements can reduce the blood lead level. Cures Cataracts (Eye Disorder) Cataracts are the most common conditions of visual problems. A decrease in the level of vitamin C in the lens of the human eye has been found more common when cataracts are present. An excessive intake of ascorbic acid increases the blood supply to the ocular areas of the body. Treats Cancer Researchers have found that a high consumption of fresh vegetables and fruits have a link to a minimized risk for various types of cancer. Studies have also shown that increased consumption of vitamin C is connected with a decreased possibility of cancer of the lungs, mouth, vocal chords, throat, colon, rectum, stomach, and esophagus. Combats Stroke Vitamin C helps in reducing the risk of stroke, a type of cardiovascular disease. A diet full of vegetables and fruits supplies a good quantity of this vitamin, which maintains the appropriate blood pressure level. It also protects the body from free radicals which could be the reason for the stroke. Improves your Mood Vitamin C plays a key role in the production of neurotransmitters like norepinephrine. They affect the mood of a person and are critical to the proper functioning of the brain. Boosts Immunity Immunity is another important benefit of this vitamin. Vitamin C is widely known for its contribution to the immune system and its stimulation of white blood vessels in the body. Repairs Wounds Vitamin C helps to repair wounds. It facilitates the growth of the connective tissues, which speeds up the process of healing wounds. Controls Asthma Ascorbic acid helps to reduce the symptoms of asthma. It helps to protect against the harmful effects of pollution in the human body, which often results in asthma-like symptoms. Cures Diabetes One of the chief reasons for diabetes, as found by various studies, is low levels of ascorbic acid. Supplements of vitamin C are beneficial as a cure for diabetes, as they help in the processing of insulin and glucose. Prevents Heart Diseases An adequate amount of ascorbic acid is essential for the protection of blood vessels from the damage that free radicals can cause them. This could be a major cause of a heart disease called atherosclerosis.

How to Preserve Your Homemade Cosmetics, Home Remedies + Giveaway Pre-Announcement
♥ ** Remeber to LIKE, COMMENT, and SUBSCRIBE ** ♥ EXPAND for more infos ♥ http://www.beautyfoodtips.com My cosmetic line: http://www.beautiliciousdelights.com ******************************************************************** This video tutorial is a reply to some requests I've received from some of you on how to preserve properly homemade cosmetics and home remedies. In this tutorial I share with you for which products you need to use an antioxidant and in which products you have to use a preservative, what you should know when choosing a preservative, which criteria you should follow when choosing one and what it's important to consider when using specific preservatives and other useful information ;) When deciding which preservative is the most appropriate for your product, there is 1 question you should ask yourself: is there water in my formula? If there is not, then an antioxidant will be enough to preserve your product from going rancid. Usually lip balms, whipped butters, stick balms are made up only of vegetable oils, butters and eventually waxes. No water involved :D. The most used antioxidants are vitamin E and rosemary extract (which will impart its own aroma into your products and will make them smell of rosemary). Adding them to your products will slow down the oxidation process, but don't forget they are as useful for your skin too. ;) Remember that antioxidants can't kill bacteria and molds, should you consider adding them (erroneously) as a preservative in water based cosmetic. Preservatives do extend the shelf life of homemade products and keep them free of bacteria, but remember that preservatives themselves are often unhealthy. Many may cause or promote skin problems, therefore it's very important to choose them being fully aware of what they are made up of, if they are parabens free and if you care, if they are ecological or not. Natural preservatives, among which essential oils (such as tea tree, thyme, neem) are considered too, don't cover a broad spectrum of bacteria and the amounts needed to make them act as a preservative are usually too high and not safe to use in skin care products. If you decide to anyway use them, consider a short shelf life for your products. How Long Do Homemade Juices Stay Fresh? | Fasting & Cleanses

I'm Natalia Rose. And today, we're going to talk about how long homemade juices will last. Most homemade juices are made by centrifugal juicer, which heats up the juice slightly while it's being made. This is why you want to consume a centrifugally processed juice as soon after making it as possible. As soon as it's made, the juice will start to oxidize. The more it's exposed to air, the quicker it will oxidize. Now, there are a few tricks to help your juice last longer. One that would be to make sure that you put it in a container that is very well sealed and doesn't have any extra air in it. So fill it up to the top of the container as possible so that it exposes little air as possible. Another thing you can do if you want your juice to last a couple of days would be to immediately freeze it. Freezing a juice will compromise its enzymatic activity a bit, but it will enable most of the juice to stay in integrity and certainly will enable to last a whole lot longer. The other type of juicer would be a cold press juicer like a Norwalk Press. As more and more people are juicing, more and more people are using the Norwalk Press at home, which is more of a commercial juicer. But the great thing about the Norwalk Press Juicer, the cold press juicing, is it enables the enzymes to stay intact for a much longer duration. Adding lemon or lime to your juice will extend its duration as well because of the citric acid. And a green juice that has no fruit in it will last longer than a green juice that does have fruit in it. So those are a few things you can keep in mind. One way to test and see whether your juice is still fresh just simply to taste it. If there's any fermentation, it's past its prime. If you do choose to consume a juice made from a centrifugal force juicer, the next day, the juice won't be bad by any means. It will just have significantly lost its vitality. So it's still safe to consume and can be fairly beneficial, it will have some vitality, and it will still be full of chlorophyll, but it just won't have the same zip, the same life force it would have immediately upon consumption.

How Does Cooking Affect Nutrients in Veggies?
This week Reactions explores the chemistry and science that goes on to the nutrients when you cook vegetables. Vegetables are chock-full of essential vitamins and minerals, but how should you eat them to get the most nutritious bang for your buck? Raw? Sauteed? Frozen? You might want to eat those fresh green beans right away, for one — flash-frozen green beans kept for months have up to three times more vitamin C than week-old beans kept in the fridge. And did you know that oil-based dressing and avocados can help you absorb more nutrients from that kale salad. Can You Make Your Own Vitamin C Serum [DermTV.com Epi #450]
So many people are interested in creating their own Vitamin C Serums or Vitamin C Antioxidants. But is it possible? Can you really make a potent one at home? In this episode of DermTV, Dr. Schultz discusses these questions. Subscribe to DermTV: http://www.youtube.com/dermtvdotcom http://DermTV.com Connect with DermTV: http://www.facebook.com/dermtv http://www.twitter.com/dermtv [TRANSCRIPT] So many viewers ask me questions about how to make their own topical vitamin c products. I'm not sure if it's because commercially available products tend to be fairly expensive or maybe, because oral forms of vitamin c are so readily available, that it just seems logical that you should be able to make your own serum. Today I'll give you my take. Let's start exploring this topic with simply dissolving the crystals of vitamin c that are in this capsule or tablet, in water... ...If you put the resulting solution of dissolved vitamin c on your skin, as soon as the water evaporates, the vitamin c that was dissolved in the water will re crystallize on your skin before it can be absorbed. Since crystallized vitamin c can't be absorbed into your skin, it can't work as an antioxidant. See, you need a carrier to hold the vitamin c molecule in the solution so it can penetrate into your skin cells. If you have sufficient chemistry skills to grind up vitamin c... ...and use a carrier like propylene glycol or glycerin, and you know how to calculate and measure the amount of ascorbic acid you need, you can solubilize it and mix it properly. That in theory, could yield a functioning, topical vitamin c product. However, the problem here is that you are JUST going to have ascorbic acid, regular vitamin c, which is water soluble so it doesn't penetrate the lipid membranes of skin cells very well. Because it's acidic, it can be irritating when applied to the skin. And lastly, the acidic form is unstable because it's very quickly oxidized, and thereby inactivated. For those reasons, if you're going to make a topical vitamin c product, you really want to use the ester form of vitamin c, not the acid form. The advantages to esters are that, first, because they are fat soluble, they better penetrate the lipid based barrier of your skin. Second, because they are not acidic they tend to be less irritating. And third, the fatty groups on the esters increase the stability of the vitamin c so its not as easily oxidized and inactivated. At the end of the day, when the vitamin c ester is absorbed into the skin, it then is changed back to regular ascorbic acid, so what you've done is in a non irritating fashion... you've effected better penetration at higher levels and maintained stability by using an esterified form. Creating this is beyond the scope of most amateur chemists. The final reason to not DIY vitamin c is that since it's so difficult to assess the efficacy of topical antioxidants, especially at home, by using a DIY vitamin c product, while they might feel nice, you could go on for months or years wasting your time with a product that doesn't work. So your take away today is, why take a chance on a product you don't know and miss out on the very valuable benefits available from professionally prepared topical antioxidants. Drinking mangosteen tea for health.
The mangosteen is one of Malaysia's farm fruit from the guttiferae family. This tropical fruit is seasonal, fruiting during the months of June to August and December to January each year. It takes a mangosteen tree 8 years to bear fruits, if it is planted by seed. It is rare to see the mangosteen in the market today as it is snapped up quickly for use as traditional medicine. Much have been reported about the mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana) as having antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer and antihistamine properties. Studies have found xanthones, a polyphenolic compound in this fruit. Xanthones have antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, anti platelet aggregation, anti-fungal and anti tombolic properties when tested on rats. The fruit contain thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, calcium, phosphorus, potassium, carbohydrates, fiber, vitamin A, protein, iron, magnesium and ascorbic acid. The peel contains xanthonoids and phytochemicals. This fruit contains a compound called mangostin. . There are claims that mangosteen consumption can prevent cancer. These claims have not been proven safe and effective on human. To date, no test has been conducted on humans since 2014. Laboratory studies in vitro seemed to suggest the rind might reduce the risk of cancer cell growth in the bowel of rats. In the local scenario, there are other uses of the pericarp after the fruit is consumed. A Malaysian fruit seller shows how the rind is cut, scrapped with a knife, blended and mixed with water and boiled. The liquid is sieved and consumed as a tea without adding sugar. Mangosteen cannot be consumed with sugar. A fatal case was reported in Sarawak where a patient died, foaming at the mouth, after consuming mangosteen with sugar. It was not known how many fruits this patient consumed.

Why do Garden Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Taste Better than Store Bought?
Today we are going to discuss an interesting phenomena that many of use have experiences in our garden. You take a bight of that tomato, apple or carrot and it has such a vibrant flavour you wonder how you will ever eat them from the grocery store again? Then you wonder why the fruit and vegetables you enjoy in the garden tastes better then store bought. Although there are many crop specific reasons there are three general reasons why this is the case. The first is the crops you select. The University of Texas completed a study evaluating the USDA nutrient content data from 43 different garden crops between 1950 and 1999. What they found is in the time frame there was a significant drop in the nutrient content of the 43 crops. The researchers were able to show that the nutrient content of crops is as a result of the genetic variability. So the genetics of the crops control the nutrient levels of their produce. This is supported by some of the findings of the home garden field trials this year. We found although there were differences in macro and micro elements in the soil it did not impact the nutrient density of the pepper tissue we sampled. So how does this impact the flavour of your crops? I think it is fair to say most of us grow crop varieties that are not found in stores. I myself find more heirloom crops in my garden year after year. the genetic diversity of heirloom crop varieties allow us to safely associate these with the genetic pool from the 1950s. The crops found in todays grocery stores were then developed into the more shelf stable commercial crops and constitute the newer varieties tested. The researchers found that the increased nutrient content of these crops impacted levels of more complex molecules like ascorbic acid that impact things like pH and flavour. Generally associating higher nutrient content with better flavour indicators. The second is the harvest time. Store bought produce is generally harvested and shipped long distances. As such in order for the crops to be ripe when purchased and to have the longest shelf time once at the store they are often picked prior to ripeness. The university of California Davis studied the relationship between ripeness and flavour. They found that their panelists described tomatoes that were picked and ripened off the vine as less sweet, more sour and less “tomato-like” then the crops picked at peak ripeness. This caused by the early harvest as the development of flavour influencing compounds stop when the crop is removed from the plant. Ripening will continue however sugar and ascorbic acid levels do not change in the tomatoes. You can test this using a Brix meter that measures the sugar content of your crops. the higher the number the more sugar the crop has. If you pick a tomato from the store and one that is ripe in your garden you should see the garden score much higher . This results in a reduced flavour in early harvest crops even in a side by side comparison of tomatoes from the same plant. The third is the achievement factor. Although I don't have a paper or research supporting this I think you might agree with me on the third reason. The sense of achievement is a strong one. Having cared for grown and harvested produce from your own garden leaves me with a sense of satisfaction that is hard to describe. There have been plenty of studies to suggest that subjects in a positive mood have correlated positive biophysical consequences. This may result in a heightened sense of taste. So to answer the original question of why produce from our gardens taste better then store bought produce. it is likely what we can assume a sense of achievement helps enhance the flavour of the higher genetic potential heirlooms harvested at peak ripeness. Homemade Hack! Make Your Own Ready Garlic~Noreen's Kitchen
NOTE: GARLIC SHOULD NEVER BE CANNED EITHER BY WATER BATH OR PRESSURE CANNING METHODS!!! Do you like to buy the prepared minced garlic from the grocery store like I do? I make no secret of the fact that I love my giant jar of garlic that is ready to go whenever I need to plop a spoonful into the skillet! I am not ashamed and you shouldn't be either. However, sometimes I don't know where the garlic has originated from and sometimes I have some garlic that needs to be dealt with and that is the case that brought on this tutorial. I like to purchase the already peeled garlic cloves that come in bags in the fresh produce section of my market. I ended up having a bunch left that needed to be used up so I chopped it super fine with my knife and stuck it into a jelly jar. I wanted to make sure it could be preserved for at least a week so I added a bit of water and a 1/8 teaspoon of citric acid and gave it a good stir. When I went to use it a few days later I realized that my homemade version of ready garlic was pure white and beautiful. Not yellow and dingy looking like the grocery store version. I will be making my own ready garlic from now on and this is how I did it! You might think that you don't have citric acid in your kitchen, but if you are a home canner, reach for that jar of "Fruit Fresh" and that will do the trick. Vinegar and/or lemon juice is not going to work here and will not prolong the shelf life of the garlic like the citric acid will. Neither will Ascorbic acid. Citric acid is what you will need. I believe that this pint jar of garlic I made today will safely last in my fridge for three months. You should only prepare as much as you feel you will use in a certain amount of time. I would not go past the three months. I hope you give this homemade hack a try and I hope you love it! Happy Eating! 8 Foods And Vegetables That Can Be Eaten Raw
8 Foods And Vegetables That Can Be Eaten Raw The debate is still on about whether raw food is better or cooked, but most nutritionists suggest a mix of both. Some foods, when eaten raw, helps preserve their nutrients and also allows your body to absorb them better. While there’s a long list of foods you can cook and eat, this list tells you about 8 foods which are rich in nutrients that benefit you the most when had in their natural form. The debate is still on about whether raw food is better or cooked, but most nutritionists suggest a mix of both. Some foods, when eaten raw, helps preserve their nutrients and also allows your body to absorb them better. While there’s a long list of foods you can cook and eat, this list tells you about 8 foods which are rich in nutrients that benefit you the most when had in their natural form. 2. Red Peppers Like spinach, red peppers are also rich in vitamin C but are low on calories which makes them a great heath food. A medium sized red pepper has only about 32 calories but contains about 95% of the recommended daily value of vitamin C. The National Institutes of Health says that when red peppers are cooked, the vitamin C, which is in the form of ascorbic acid, breaks down.Having red peppers raw preserves its antioxidant properties and helps cure anemia 3. Blueberries When compared to other fruits, blueberries have the most amount of antioxidants. They also contain healthy fiber and polyphenols which offer several health benefits. However, research by the Journal of Food Science showed that processing of blueberries left only 36 to 39% of polyphenols when compared to the raw fruit. That’s why it’s best to have blueberries raw and preferably, fresh. 4. Coconut Coconuts provide the best hydration when compared to any other natural food and can compete against even sports drinks for their hydration properties. The natural electrolytes present in coconut water not only hydrate the body but also are the closest natural substitute to what your body produces. Coconuts also contain several other nutrients and healthy fats which can lower cholesterol levels. Coconuts are best had raw as many of these benefits are lost when coconuts are dried and processed. 5. Seaweed Seaweeds like wakame, arame, and nori are one of the greatest sources of chlorophyll available. They are also high on protein ranging from 20% in green algae to 70% in spirulina. They contain many essential minerals like calcium, iodine, magnesium, and iron along with being rich in vitamin C. Having seaweed raw preserves the natural nutrient content. 6. Onions Onions are a major source of flavanoids which have strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Eating onions raw lowers the production of bad cholesterol (LDL), thus reducing the risk of heart disease. Onions also contain a powerful cancer fighting compound called quercetin. Due to the fact that onions contain several organic sulphur compounds which are partly destroyed by heat, it’s best to eat them raw. 7. Broccoli Sulforaphane, one of the many beneficial compounds in Broccoli, is known for its cancer fighting properties. However, boiling and stir frying greatly diminishes the amount of this nutrient along with destroying chlorophyll and vitamin C. When compared to other cruciferous vegetables, broccoli also has the highest level of another cancer fighting compound known as carotenoid. Scientists have found that if you have to cook broccoli, the ideal method is to steam as it doesn’t significantly reduce the nutrient value 8. Kale While Kale has gained a lot of popularity in America recently, it used to be a common green vegetable in Europe. Kale has fiber, potassium, and vitamin C and B6 which are great to maintain heart health. High potassium intakes are also associated with protection against loss of muscle mass, reduced risk of stroke, reduction in the formation of kidney stones, and preservation of bone mineral density. Get all the benefits of kale by adding it in your salads and dips. Vitamin C for Improved Sperm Health-NATURAL HOME REMEDIES
Vitamin C for Improved Sperm Health-NATURAL HOME REMEDIES Many physiological and lifestyle factors affect the health of your sperm. Sperm development, or spermatogenesis, is a complex process that requires cooperation between various cells and hormones, as well as adequate amount of energy and nutrients. If you consume a nutritionally poor diet, there is a possibility you suffer from nutrient deficiencies, which will affect your sperm health, such as causing low sperm count, poor motility, and abnormal shape. Antioxidants & Sperm Health Some of the nutrients that are scientifically proven to affect your sperm health include antioxidants, such as vitamin C. Antioxidants are a group of micronutrients that help protect your cells (such as sperm cells) against damage caused by free radicals. Clinical studies have found that eating antioxidant-rich foods can improve sperm health, especially sperm concentration and motility. Benefits of Vitamin C Vitamin C (also known as ascorbic acid) is classified as a vitamin as well as an antioxidant. Your body needs vitamin C to synthesize collagen, heal wounds, fight against free radicals, and protect your cells from destruction. Adult men should get at least 90 mg of vitamin C per day. Because vitamin C is soluble to water, it is easily removed from the body. Therefore, you should eat vitamin C-rich foods on daily basis to prevent deficiency. Foods that contain high amount of vitamin C include: citrus fruits, orange juice, grapefruit juice, sweet peppers, papayas, peaches, strawberries and broccoli. In addition, you can get vitamin C from many supplements. Sodium Benzoate: Formula, Facts, Allergy
Sodium benzoate (also known as e211) is a substance that has the chemical formula NaC7H5O2. It is a synthetic chemical produced when benzoic acid, that is found naturally in some spices and fruits, is combined with sodium hydroxide. Uses - Under acidic conditions, it inhibits the growth of mold, bacteria, and yeast, extending a product's shelf life. It is most widely used in acidic foods, like - carbonated drinks, salad dressings, pickles, jams and fruit juices, and condiments. Less commonly, this substance is used as a medication to treat hyperammonemia, a rare condition which causes excess ammonia to accumulate in the blood. FDA has granted sodium benzoate GRAS status, and the safe limit in food is 0.1% by weight. In addition, foods have concentrations far lower--more like 0.025 percent to 0.05 percent. Allergy - some studies have concluded that sodium benzoate intolerance can cause skin reactions, like - hives, otherwise known as urticaria. For instance, a study issued in 1984 in the journal "Allergy" found that 4 out of 27 children experienced urticaria in response to this substance. Moreover, research has shown that sodium benzoate, along with artificial food colorings, can cause children with ADHD to be more hyperactive. More importantly, a professor at the University of Sheffield established that consuming foods with this substance may damage the DNA structure and leads to neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson's disease. Note - To reduce the risk of benzene exposure, avoid buying soft drinks that list both sodium benzoate and ascorbic acid as ingredients because when sodium benzoate combines with ascorbic acid (the synthetic form of vitamin C) benzene can form. Benzene damages the bone marrow and can cause a decrease in red blood cells, leading to anemia. In addition, benzene can cause excessive bleeding and depress the immune system, increasing the chance of infection. Thank you. Music By: Scott & Brendo “Somewhere” http://bit.ly/ScottBrendoiTunes See their YouTube page: http://bit.ly/YTScottDW Project Inspired By: SFHandyman's Instructable article: http://bit.ly/IBSFHandyman Project History & More Info: Who doesn't love gummy candy, and who doesn't love LEGO? 5 years ago I was fascinated with it, wondering how it was made, and what gave it its gummy texture. It feels so good on the teeth to bite into it, and my kids go crazy for them .. so I spent a bit of time researching how they're made commercially. My biggest motivation for doing this was to see if we could make our own at home, and I'm actually still trying to figure out how to make gelatin and corn syrup from scratch, so if I can figure out how to do that, maybe I'll show how to do it in another project video. Only a small handful of you have ever seen the LEGO Gummy video I made in 2010, and that's because it was nearly 5 years ago, before I really got serious about making videos. I took it off my channel in 2012 because I had full intentions of making a better version, so here it is .. 3 years later! :) Now I wanted to make candies that made people look twice, and LEGO bricks instantly came to mind because what's more awesome than LEGO and gummy put together? But I wasn't sure where could you get a mold for making LEGO bricks. Surfing around the internet, I stumbled across an awesome Instructable by SFHandyman: http://bit.ly/IBSFHandyman To my amazement, not only had he shown how to make a mold for making LEGO candy, he also made LEGO gummies as well! I played around with loads of variations in recipes to see what texture and tastes I liked the best. And I've kept experimenting off and on for the last 4 years, using my kids and wife for feedback. They gobble them up no matter what variations I use, but I've finally settled on 1/2 cup of very cold water, 1/4 cup of corn syrup, 2 packets of unflavored gelatin, and 1 pack of Jell-O. I've found that the corn syrup seems to help smooth out the texture and the taste. If you try making this recipe, it's very important to start the gelatin in cold water. Stir it up, then let it sit for 5 minutes before you turn on the heat. Otherwise, you'll get gobby clumps of undissolved gelatin in your syrup that doesn't look very appetizing. I originally made my silicone mold with a 2 part mix from a special effects supply company. I used real LEGO bricks set on a LEGO base, and built a makeshift retaining wall with bricks and play-dough. I don't plan to make a tutorial on how to make the mold, but I want to do a video on how to make a silicone mold in general. It's amazing to see how much detail the silicone can transfer to the final gummy products. If you look closely at my candies you can even see the little “LEGO” text on top of the gummy LEGO studs. To make sour gummies, we often add citric acid. They are incredible! But if you don't have citric acid, try taking SFHandyman's suggestion and add vitamin C. The citric and ascorbic acids in the vitamins sour them the same way, which actually makes them taste just as great, and enriches them with vitamin C as well.

EXOTIC FRUIT - Review Wednesday
Eating healthy and clean does not have to be boring. This week we explore and review the world of exotic fruits. _________________________________________________________________ Dragon Fruit: Most popular in Southeast Asia, dragon fruit is eaten around the world, including in Mexico and Central and South America. • Rich in antioxidants • They contain vitamin C (equivalent to 10 percent of the daily value) • Polyunsaturated (good) fatty acids • Several B vitamins for carbohydrate metabolism • Carotene • Calcium • Iron • Phosphorus • Protein. The seeds of dragon fruits are high in polyunsaturated fats (omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids) that reduce triglycerides and lower the risk of cardiovascular disorders. Eating dragon fruit can help the body maintain such normal function as ridding the body of toxic heavy metals and improved eyesight. Slice lengthwise and either scoop out the flesh, or quarter it and peel back the leathery skin. Eat only the white part with seeds, removing any residual pink parts, which are bitter. 60 Calories 1.5 grams of fat 9 grams carbohydrates 1 gram dietary fiber 2 grams protein _________________________________________________________________ Rambutan: They are indigenous to Malaysia, and has also been cultivated throughout Thailand, South Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, India and Sri Lanka. • 58 calories • 16 grams of carbs • 3 grams dietary fiber • Protein: 1 gram • High Fiber Content • High in antioxidants • Kills Intestinal Parasites. According to traditional Chinese medicine, rambutan can help expel parasites in the gut because of its antifungal properties. • Contains Gallic Acid. The rambutan rind contains a high amount of gallic acid, which functions as a free radical scavenger. This compound helps prevent cancer and oxidative damage. Simply remove the skin by lightly pinching the fruit until the peel breaks in the middle. Discard the peel and eat around the seed in the middle. _________________________________________________________________ Feijoa: Sometimes known as the Pineapple Guava, is a lime-green, egg-shaped fruit with a soft, succulent flesh similar in texture to a pear. Originally a native of South America, the fruit is now grown in California and New Zealand. Its flavor is reminiscent of pineapple, quince and lemon, with a hint of eucalyptus. • Low in calories and fat • Cholesterol-free • Loaded with vitamins, and antioxidants • The fruit is a very rich source of soluble dietary fiber (6.4 g per 100 g of fruit, about 17% of DRA), which makes it a good bulk laxative. • Excellent source of antioxidant vitamin-C. 100 g fresh fruit provides 32.9 mg of this vitamin, about 55% of DRI (daily-recommended intake). Vitamin-C is a water-soluble antioxidant that works well against viral illness through immune-boosting means. Regular consumption of fruits rich in vitamin-C helps the human body develop resistance against infectious agents and scavenge cancer causing harmful free radicals from the body. • Feijoa contains small proportions B-complex vitamins such as pantothenic acid, niacin, vitamin-B6 (pyridoxine), and vitamin E and K, as well as minerals like calcium, magnesium, copper, and manganese. To prepare, select the fresh, ripe fruit. Gently wipe dry. Lightly mop dry. Cut the fruit into two halves using a paring knife. Scoop the juicy pulp using a spoon as you do in case of sapodilla. Its flesh features sweet, sour taste, with a sandy texture. Its skin, although edible, is generally discarded. _________________________________________________________________ Star Fruit: Carambola or starfruit, is the fruit of Averrhoa carambola, a species of tree native to the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Mauritius and Seychelles. The fruit is popular throughout Southeast Asia, the South Pacific, Micronesia, and parts of East Asia. The fruit has distinctive ridges running down its sides (usually five but can sometimes vary); when cut in cross-section, it resembles a star, hence its name. The entire fruit is edible and is usually eaten out of hand. They may also be used in cooking and can be made into relishes, preserves, and juice drinks. • 28 calories and 6 grams of carbs • Fiber: 3 grams • Protein: 1 gram • Vitamin C, Vitamin B5, Folate, Copper, Potassium, Magnesium, antioxidants How to prepare and eat star fruit: 1. Difference Between Lemon & Lime
Difference Between Lemon & Lime While some people think of a lemon and a lime as interchangeable, there are a number of differences between these two fruits, as well as unique health benefits to both! Difference Between Lemon & Lime A lemon is scientifically known as Citrus limon, and is the fruit of the lemon tree, which is a small evergreen tree that is native to Asia. In comparison, limes are actually a hybridized citrus fruit, and come in many different varieties around the world. The shape of a lemon is ellipsoidal, and the ripened fruit is a bright yellow in color. People cultivate this fruit for culinary reasons, due to the tart, refreshing flavor of lemons, but lemons are also famed for their use as a cleaning product and an element in natural healing. Lemons are high in citric acid and vitamin C, as well as a wide range of other phytochemicals, tannins and polyphenolic compounds. This gives lemons and lemon juice a powerful effect on human health. Lemons have slightly more vitamin C than limes, although their nutritional content is very similar in other respects. Lemons are also slightly less acidic than limes on the pH scale. Although some people mistakenly think that limes are simply lemons that haven’t ripened yet, they are sorely mistaken. Key limes are also known as the “bartender’s lime”, and are some of the most famous varieties in the world. In comparison, limes are slightly smaller than most lemons, but share the slightly ellipsoidal or oval shape of lemons, adding to the confusion between the two varieties. Limes are slightly higher in carbohydrates and lower in protein than lemons, but the difference is negligible. In terms of taste, limes tend to be more sour or tart, in comparison to lemons, owing to the lower sugar content in limes. Taste of Lemon and Lime Lemons typically have more sugar, which often gives them a sweeter flavor than limes, whereas limes are tart, making them ideal for cocktails and beverages with a bit more bite. Eating pure lemon juice or lime juice can be equally unpleasant experiences, which is why they are usually mixed with other drinks or ingredients before being consumed. Health Benefits of Lemon and Lime While the two fruits clearly have a number of differences, in size, color, nutritional value and species, the two citrus fruits do have a great deal in common as well. These two fruit varieties share many of the same health benefits, as outlined below, making them some of the most popular and important citrus fruits you can add to your diet. Boost Immunity The reason vitamin C is such an important element of a healthy diet is because of its effect on the immune system. Also known as ascorbic acid, this critical vitamins stimulates the production of white blood cells, which are the first line of defense for the body when it is attacked by an illness or infection. The vitamin C content in a single lemon or lime represents 64% and 35%, respectively, of the daily recommended amount. Speed-up Healing Vitamin C is also a critical vitamin in the production of collagen, which goes on to produce all the muscle, skin cells, tissue and bone throughout the body. Without the vitamin C of lemons and limes, recovery from illness and injury would be much slower. Optimize Digestion Lemons and limes both contain high levels of dietary fiber. With about 3 grams of fiber in each fruit, they represent about 10% of the daily recommended amount of fiber, which can bulk up the stool, reduce constipation, and eliminate excess gas and bloating. Boost Circulation Both of these citrus fruits contain significant levels of iron, which is an important element in hemoglobin. Without proper iron levels, people will suffer from anemia, characterized by weakness, fatigue, cognitive confusion and light-headedness. Prevent Cancer Citrus fruits like lemons and limes contain high levels of other antioxidants, besides vitamin C, and these phytonutrients can counteract the effects of free radicals, which cause oxidative stress and increase your risk of chronic diseases, such as cancer. Aid in Weight Loss The high fiber level and low calorie count makes these citrus fruits ideal for weight-loss efforts. The fruits can make you feel full, as a result of the fiber, and won’t elevate your calorie count to feel satiated. This will cut back on snacking between meals and overeating, perfect for someone trying to shed some pounds! Lemon or Lime- Which one is Better? Lemons have a slight edge in terms of nutrients, taste and versatility in cooking and beverages. Limes do have high concentrations of vitamin C and other antioxidants, and can be used in many ways in cooking and cocktail-making. However, while both of these fruits are very good for overall health, lemons would likely win in the nutritional battle!

Look Younger! Vitamin C - Build Collagen/Remove Dead Skin Cells/Brighten Skin
A lovely subscriber of mine left this information in the comment section, so I'm adding it to my description box. Apparently you can get 20% off your purchases, along with other deals if you sign up to VIDI Skincare's VIP Club. Just click this link for savings: https://www.vidiskincare.com/VipClub/ VIDI Skincare Face Serum Vitamin C20: https://www.vidiskincare.com/product/vitamin-c-serum-for-face/ Topical Vitamin C Serum with built-in Alpha and Beta Hydroxy Acids work together to softly exfoliates dead skin layers through a chemical peel action with each application. The ongoing peel enables absorption of the serum into your skin to ensure that it can really give you the results you want. INGREDIENTS: • Micro-encapsulated Vitamin C 20% (with Vitamin A and Vitamin E) - Vitamin C is one of the most well-researched and beneficial vitamins you can apply topically. Ongoing use has been shown to improve the look of multiple signs of aging, brighten an uneven skin tone, as well as provide skin-restoring and soothing benefits. However Vitamin C (along with other antioxidants) can be very unstable when packaged improperly. • Polysilicone 15,C24-28 Alkyl Dimethicone – Water binding properties that lock in moisture and leave the skin feeling silky smooth • Beta Hydroxy Acid (Salicylic Acid) – helps shed unhealthy buildup of dead skin cells as well as the abnormal build up of oils and dead surface cells for those of you with oily or acne prone skin. Helps exfoliate skin in a natural gentle fashion like it did when we were kids. • Alpha Hydroxy Acid (Glycolic Acid) - exfoliate by breaking down the substance that holds dead skin together. AHAs have been widely used for improving signs of aging, dry skin and an uneven skin tone, all of which lead to younger-looking skin. here is a vast amount of research that substantially describes how the aging process affects skin and that demonstrates that many of the unwanted changes can be improved by topical application of AHAs • Cyclomethicone - Silicone with a drier finish than dimethicone. • Natural essential oils • Benzylalcohol,Dehydroacetic Acid - Organic alcohol that occurs naturally in some fruits (apricots, cranberries) and teas. Its chief function in cosmetics is as a preservative, and it’s among the least sensitizing preservatives in use. • Matrixyl Synthe 6: Glycerin (and) Water [Aqua] (and) HP Cyclodextrin (and) Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38- encourages collagen production by tricking it. It’s kind of the same concept behind dermarolling – the whole wound-healing concept. However, no wounds are actually being inflicted. It actually stimulate 6 major components of the skin, 3 of which are collagen, and another one is Hyaluronic acid. It tells the skin that it is once again time to start producing collagen and hyaluronic acid. Matrixyl Synthe’6 stimulates six major components of the skin matrix and the dermal-epidermal junction, and helps improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles from the inside out by regulating cell activity, wound repair and collagen tissue remodeling. 1. Collagen I - It is the major component of the dermis. 2. Collagen III - This type of collagen is produced in the earliest phases of wound healing, before type I collagen synthesis initiation. It is mostly found in elastic tissues, including the skin, muscles and blood vessels, and it diminishes with age in favor of collagen I. 3. Collagen IV - This has important wound healing stimulation properties, as it interacts with keratinocytes, which induce epidermal cell proliferation immediately after a skin injury. 4. Fibronectin - A glycoprotein that appears to have a role in the stimulation and acceleration of in vivo tissue repair. 5. Hyaluronic acid - Known for facilitating wound repair, hyaluronic acid is thought to improve skin moisture and elasticity. Hyaluronic acid has a demonstrated ability to promote the delivery of active ingredients to the inner layers of the skin. Its free radical scavenging properties indicate that it may also have a role in UV protection 6. Laminin-5 - Alongside collagens and proteoglycans, laminins are important components of the basement membrane. Laminin-5 anchors the epidermis to the dermis. It also regulates keratinocyte migration, facilitating the healing of injured epidermis. Passion fruit vine, lemons, orchids and bromiliads...
Passion fruit vine with passion fruit, lemons, orchids and bromiliads... Passion fruit: Passiflora edulis or Passion fruit is a vine species of passion flower that is native to Brazil, Paraguay and northern Argentina (Corrientes and Misiones provinces, among others). Its common names include passion fruit (UK and US), passionfruit (Australia and New Zealand), and purple granadilla (South Africa). It is cultivated commercially in warmer, frost-free areas for its fruit and Fresh passion fruit is high in beta carotene, potassium, and dietary fibre. Passion fruit juice is a good source of ascorbic acid (vitamin C), and good for people who have high blood pressure. Some research is showing that purple passion fruit peel may help with controlling asthma symptoms. The fruit contains Lycopene in the mature and immature pericarp. The passion fruit is round to oval, either yellow or dark purple at maturity, with a soft to firm, juicy interior filled with numerous seeds. The fruit is both eaten and juiced; passion fruit juice is often added to other fruit juices to enhance the aroma. The two types of passion fruit have clearly differing exterior appearances. The bright yellow variety of passion fruit, which is also known as the Golden Passion Fruit, can grow up to the size of a grapefruit, has a smooth, glossy, light and airy rind, and has been used as a rootstock for the Purple Passion Fruit in Australia. The dark purple passion fruit is smaller than a lemon, though it is less acidic than the yellow passion fruit, and has a richer aroma and flavour. The purple varieties of the fruit have been found to contain traces of cyanogenic glycosides in the skin. Lemons: The lemon is a small evergreen tree native to Asia, and the tree's ellipsoidal yellow fruit. The fruit's juice, pulp and peel, especially the zest, are used as foods. The juice of the lemon is about 5% to 6% citric acid, which gives lemons a sour taste. The distinctive sour taste of lemon juice makes it a key ingredient in drinks and foods such as lemonade. Lemon juice, rind, and zest are used in a wide variety of food and drink. Lemon juice is used to make lemonade, soft drinks, and cocktails. It is used in marinades for fish, where its acid neutralizes amines in fish by converting them into non-volatile ammonium salts, and meat, where the acid partially hydrolyzes tough collagen fibers, tenderizing the meat, but the low pH denatures the proteins, causing them to dry out when cooked. Lemon juice is frequently used in the United Kingdom to add to pancakes, especially on Shrove Tuesday. Lemon juice is also used as a short-term preservative on certain foods that tend to oxidize and turn brown after being sliced, such as apples, bananas and avocados, where its acid denatures the enzymes that cause browning and degradation. Lemon juice and rind are used to make marmalade and lemon liqueur. Lemon slices and lemon rind are used as a garnish for food and drinks. Lemon zest, the grated outer rind of the fruit, is used to add flavor to baked goods, puddings, rice and other dishes. Preserved lemons are a part of Moroccan cuisine. They are also one of the main ingredients in many Indian cuisines. Either lemon pickle or mango pickle is part of everyday lunches in Southern India. The leaves of the lemon tree are used to make a tea and for preparing cooked meats and seafoods. Sikkim: Sikkim is a landlocked Indian state located in the Himalayan mountains. The state borders Nepal to the west, China's Tibet Autonomous Region to the north and east, and Bhutan to the southeast. The Indian state of West Bengal lies to the south. With around 607,000 inhabitants as of 2011, Sikkim is the least populous state in India and the second-smallest state after Goa in total area, covering approximately 7,096 km2 (2,740 sq mi). Sikkim is nonetheless geographically diverse due to its location in the Himalayas; the climate ranges from subtropical to high alpine, and Kangchenjunga, the world's third-highest peak, is located on Sikkim's border with Nepal. Sikkim is a popular tourist destination, owing to its culture, scenery and biodiversity. It also has the only open land border between India and China. Sikkim's capital and largest city is Gangtok. DESCRIPTION OF VITAMIN C website : http://goo.gl/R2qoqG My channel : https://goo.gl/tfswGr Vitamin C is water soluble, that is to say, it is soluble in water. While most mammals can synthesize the human body has lost the ability during evolution. It must therefore draw every day in food. Vitamin C is absorbed mainly in the small intestine and, in much smaller amount, in the mouth and stomach; it is eliminated through urine. In the body, it is mainly present in the lens of the eye, white blood cells, pituitary, adrenal glands and brain. Vitamin C participates in hundreds of processes in the body. One of its main functions is to assist the body to produce collagen, a protein essential for the formation of connective tissue of the skin, ligaments and bones. It also helps maintain immune function. It activates wound healing, participates in the formation of red blood cells and increases the absorption of iron from plants. Another important role of vitamin C is its antioxidant that protects cells against damage by free radicals. Food sources of vitamin C These are the colorful fruits and vegetables and wines that contain more vitamin C: red pepper, orange, lemon, grapefruit, cantaloupe, raspberries, strawberries, broccoli, tomato, etc. Generally, consumption of at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables helps meet the nutritional widely recommended intake of vitamin C. Warning: the air, water and heat can destroy the vitamin C in food. To preserve vitamin C in foods, so it is advisable to cook vegetables quickly in the least amount of water (steam, microwave or Chinese) For other food sources of vitamin C, visit our Awards of Vitamin C nutrients, from which this table. Vitamin C A major deficiency of vitamin C causes scurvy, which is manifested by inflammation and bleeding gums, wounds that fail to heal and general weakness. It is rare in the West, because an intake of 10 mg per day is sufficient to prevent this disease. People who eat little fresh produce may lack vitamin C. Smokers have an increased need for vitamin C because smoking reduces vitamin C levels in the body.
