Bystolic

Beta blockers like Bystolic typically represent second or third tier therapy for high blood pressure. Most drugs in this class share similar features and are available as relatively inexpensive generic versions. Bystolic offers no obvious advantage and remains extraordinarily pricey compared to metoprolol, atenolol or nadolol. Insidermedicine In Depth - May 25, 2010 - COPD and Beta Blockers

02:10
Individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) who take drugs used to treat a variety of heart conditions are less likely to have exacerbations of their lung disease and may even live longer, according to research published in the Archives of Internal Medicine. Here is some information about COPD: • The term refers to several long-term diseases of the lungs, including emphysema and chronic bronchitis • It causes progressively worsening damage to the airways in the lungs related to swelling and blockage with mucous • It is usually caused by smoking or exposure to second-hand smoke Researchers from University Medical Center Utrecht studied the medical records of over 20 general medical practices in the Netherlands to look at the effects of beta-blockers on those with COPD. Beta-blockers are used to treat a variety of heart problems. Cardiovascular disease and COPD frequently co-occur in the same individuals, so it is important to know how drugs that treat one condition might affect the other. The investigators identified over 2,000 individuals with COPD who were aged 45 and older. During an average follow-up period of just over seven years, more than 47% of the participants experienced an exacerbation of their COPD, and about 30% died. Those taking beta-blockers were less likely to experience an exacerbation of their COPD and were even less likely to die during the follow-up period than those not taking these drugs. The benefits of the beta-blockers were unexpectedly found among individuals both with and without cardiovascular disease. Todays research suggests that, contrary to current conventional wisdom, beta-blockers may not be dangerous for those with chronic lung disease. In contrast, they actually appear to benefit those with COPD.

Cuchulain tries very hard to eat a piece of cheese

03:00
A video I took to show my vet. Cuchulain was grumpy, lethargic, sitting around weird, and wouldn't even eat a piece of cheese until I held it the right way. Then it took a lot of tries, and it was difficult. He wouldn't let me look at his mouth, which was odd for him. Oh, and I hadn't seen him at the food bowl, and he seemed to be having some trouble drinking water. Worrisome. Luckily his heart and lungs sounded fine to the vet. Likely problem: a sore not-quite dislocated jaw, bruised/irritated larynx, or sore/cut mouth from an atenolol administration mishap. In my defense, I've been pilling him for years, currently give him 4 pills a night, and this was the first time we've had a problem like this. Subcutaneous fluids at the vet office and hoping it improves some by tomorrow. Poor Cu. But he ate lots of Pill Pockets at the vet and got the Absolute Crack Food: Science Diet a/d. AND he doesn't have to take his pills tonight

Beta Blockers For Hypertension

01:04
http://www.highbloodpressurearticles.com/high-blood-pressure-medications.html Beta-blockers are drugs which block the effects of adrenaline and other hormones that stimulate the heart and cause blood pressure to rise. They have been available since the 1960s and are being prescribed for a variety of medical conditions. "Beta-blockers, which relax the blood vessels by blocking certain nerve impulses, are very versatile drugs. These agents have some 20 different approved uses or indications. Besides lowering blood pressure, they prevent anxiety and panic attacks, a boon for entertainers and public speakers; they are a mainstay in the treatment of angina, irregular heartbeats and heart attacks," according to Dr. Isadore Rosenfeld of the New York Hospital - Memorial Sloan - Kettering Cancer Center in "The Best Treatment." "They control tremors; they make withdrawal from alcohol more tolerable; they're effective in preventing migraine headaches; two of them, timolol and betaxotol, are widely used to reduce elevated pressure in the eye due to glaucoma; they are used in thyroid disorders; one is even a vaginal contraceptive," Rosenfeld added. When administered for hypertension, beta-blockers may be given alone or in combination with a thiazide diuretic. Unfortunately, their use here is limited because of side effects like fatigue, lethargy and impotence. Beta-blockers appear to be more effective in young, white patients whose elevated blood pressure is caused by medium or high renin levels. This is a hormone made by the kidney which affects blood pressure. But if that's not your problem, you might as well forget these drugs for they won't do you any good. Neither should they be taken if you have heart failure, asthma or heart block. Another problem with beta-blockers is that they can decrease the blood level of good cholesterol and promote atherosclerosis, the buildup of fatty deposits in the artery walls. This increases your risk of a heart attack or stroke. "These drugs should be avoided if you have chronic lung disease like emphysema, bronchitis, or asthma because they can induce bronchial spasm; or they can worsen matters if your heart rate is slow to begin with. They often cause impotence, fatigue, bad dreams and constipation," Rosenfeld said. (Next: Calcium-channel blockers for hypertension.) Since obesity is a factor in hypertension, it pays to lose weight. To help you shed those unwanted pounds, take Zyroxin, a safe and natural supplement that will maximize your weight loss through its unique fat-burning ingredients. Questions & Answers 229 - Human Growth Hormone, Microwaves, Heart Attack, Root Canal

01:50:08
Questions & Answers 229 03:46- X- I am a top level bodybuilder and compete in the Mr. Olympia contest. As you might be aware, in our sport anabolic steroids, human growth hormone and insulin are widely abused to build extreme amounts of muscle, combined with high protein diet. This is what it takes for me to win and be good at my job, I have been blessed with very good genetics and my body is dealing with all this stress fine so far. My question is, what should I do if I decide to have children? 11:27 - Scott -- How do you feel about cooking food in microwaves? What's the difference in stovetop and microwave cooking? Often times I see people heating water in microwaves and drinking their tea with it. Very bad right? 14:20 - Mike- I was wondering if there would be a downside to using two glandulars at the same time? For example, and adrenal glandular and a pituitary glandular or an adrenal glandular and a thyroid glandular. Should you only use one at a time? How long should you stay on it? 17:26 - Jonathan -- I started taking an adrenal glandular for one month and recently got a new iridology scan done. Something new appeared that was not there before I took the adrenal glandular. The new picture showed extreme adrenal weakness on the right eye. It was the biggest one the iridologist had ever seen, she was shocked. What could be going on in your opinion? 23:29 - Lisa -- I am a 60-year-old female. I suffered a heart attack at age 22 from pericarditis. About 5 years ago I started having tachycardia/arrhythmia constantly and do I went to the doctor. After tests, he said I had cardiomyopathy. I stopped taking one of my meds (lisinopril) about 2 months ago and stopped the other pill, Atenolol (beta blocker) to go on water fast hoping to help my heart. During the 5-day water fast my heart rate jumped up and stayed up the whole time, even after I stopped the fast. Will fasting and a fruit diet repair my enlarged heart, or am I dreaming? 45:15 - Alex -- What do you think about prisons and justice, the economic system, politics, education? I don't know, maybe adverse forces are working to stay in a divided world? In the same subject, I wonder why god who loves us all and his all that is manifested and non-manifested has created a world where perversion, lies, suffering, injustice, atrocity and difficulties is possible and so common...Whereas on the other side we can see things like beauty, love, justice, and truth. 1:06:49 - Phyllis -- What do you think about Root Canal Removal? I'm told root canals continue to emit poison into our system. I was wondering in your plan if they are actually healed completely and can be left in rather than removing? 1:10:43 - Unknown -- What is the anti-spasmodic that you are talking about? I was diagnosed with stage 4-lung cancer over 3 years ago. I did only 6 weeks of radiation and mild chemo every 2 weeks also for 6 weeks. I said good-bye to my oncologist; she gave me a death sentence. I have mucus and cough off and on. I want to strengthen my sweet lung as much as possible. 1:16:58 - Melanie -- I realized today I did have my hopes quite high for strictureplasty, because I felt really upset when the surgeon said no that wouldn't work for me because there are too many strictures and they are too long (8cm). He wants me to try more medications first. He says more surgery would cause short bowel syndrome and he would have to do resection not stricureplasty. I'm meant to do methotrexate injections and then graduate to Imuran and then remucaid. What are Dr. Morse thoughts on this? 1:25:06 - Tereza -- I have an AVM in my brain, which has been there probably since my birth. I just had a scary bleed at the end of August and was flown to hospital with special neurosurgery department. Luckily I had no insurance so they didn't do any processes or operations on me. The plan is open brain surgery though. Is it possible to heal something I was born with my detoxification, diet and herbs? 1:36:12 - Rozana -- Following up. Tons of sulfur on my eyes, Started the GI broom 15 days ago and today I realized that my eyes are different. I didn't pay too much attention until people started to notice the color change. I thought it was my skin due to the fruits. I just looked more beautiful. 1:36:53 - Organicsuperman -- I really need help with post viral fatigue. Are there any ways to boost my immune system? My neutrophils are 1.8 and total WBC is 3.8. I feel I am just staying at this level and not improving. I don't feel good. 1:39:42 - Sam -- What about aloe vera for inside the vagina to heal, cool and even as a sexual lubricant? 1:42:00 - Daria -- Could you explain why joints like elbows becoming sticky the lock (no full extension) in conditions such as RA? Could you also explain the way you work your way out of this? This is of course assuming that a person is following a mainly fruit diet and has done or is doing herbal formulas and working on digging deep. Thank you Paul!

Is it SAFE to Consume BAKING SODA to Improve Your HEALTH? SIDE EFFECTS of Drinking BAKING SODA Water

12:10
SIDE EFFECTS of Drinking BAKING SODA Water: Baking Soda Dos and Don’ts. Is there really a miracle product sitting in the back of your fridge -- something cheap that can zap bad smells, keep your teeth sparkly white, and even treat life-threatening diseases? Yes. That box of baking soda, also known as bicarbonate of soda (or sodium bicarbonate), can do some major things. Its superpowers come from a two-letter term: pH. That stands for “potential (or power) of hydrogen” to make something either an acid or a base (alkaline). Baking soda is an alkaline substance. When it mixes with an acid, it alters the pH level. That’s why it can quickly soothe an upset stomach or cover a bad smell. Baking Soda Dos You can use it to: Calm indigestion: Add 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda to a glass of water to zap acid in your stomach. But acid doesn’t cause all kinds of indigestion, so if your symptoms don’t improve after 2 weeks, call your doctor. Don’t take baking soda within 2 hours of other medications. When the baking soda lowers stomach acid, it can slow the rate at which your body absorbs some medicines and change the way others work. Don’t give it to a child under 6 unless your pediatrician tells you to. Treat insect bites and stings: While it isn’t good for everyday use on your skin, it can soothe the redness, itching, and stinging that are signs of a mild reaction to an insect bite. Many over-the-counter creams contain baking soda. You can also make your own paste of one part baking soda to three parts water. This also works for poison ivy and rashes. Keep your mouth healthy: Brushing your teeth with toothpaste that has baking soda can hold off tooth decay and keep your gums and mouth in good shape. A half-teaspoon of baking soda mixed in a glass of water can also freshen your breath. Control odors: Most bad smells come from either strong acids (think sour milk) or bases (like spoiled fish). When you add baking soda and change the pH balance, the odors in your fridge or your carpet come into a neutral state. Try it for yourself. Put an open box of baking soda in your fridge. Sprinkle it over the layers of garbage in your trash can or toss it into the bottom of your dishwasher. CONTINUED Help chemotherapy work: While no scientific studies have found that baking soda cures cancer, research does show that it can help some cancer treatments work better. Some chemotherapy drugs need alkaline conditions. Others become more toxic in an acid environment. That’s why some doctors suggest using some form of sodium bicarbonate for best treatment results. Your oncologist can tell you if your drugs will get a boost from baking soda. Mouth and throat changes are common chemo side effects. If this happens to you, rinse your mouth three times daily with a mixture of 1 cup warm water, 1/4 teaspoon baking soda, and 1/8 teaspoon salt, followed by a rinse with plain water. Treat kidney disease: A daily dose of sodium bicarbonate can help people whose kidneys can no longer remove enough acid from their blood. Baking Soda Don’ts Sometimes you should leave the box on the shelf. Here are some things baking soda won’t do. Soothe your skin: Your body’s largest organ is slightly acidic. This helps it hang on to moisture and keeps harmful bacteria out of your body. But if you have sensitive skin, you’re likely to find alkaline substances irritating. Style your hair: Some people skip shampoo and use a mixture of baking soda and apple cider vinegar on their hair. Over time this will make a bad hair day worse. Like your scalp, your hair is naturally acidic. Baking soda might shine your locks up at first, but over time it’ll cause frizz, tangles, and breaks. Boost athletic performance: You might hear about runners drinking a large amount of baking soda before a race or meet. This is called soda loading, and it can make you sick if you get too much too often.

Q&A - 367 - Depression Meds, Body Fat, Tomatoes, Lyme Disease, Cold/Flu

01:52:26
3:31 – Douglas – My daughter is taking Lexapro 10mg for depression. What can we use to detox her and get her off of this? Can she still take while detoxing? I heard it can be dangerous to stop these SSRIs cold turkey. 6:59 – John – Can you please shed some light on body fat? I’m healthy person, I don’t get sick, I have a high fitness level, but I have body fat. 14:08 – Jackie – Dr. Morse doesn’t recommend cooked tomatoes. Why? Is it OK to eat sun dried tomatoes, olives and Pesto (basil and Olive Oil) on salads? Is it OK to do a fast for 1-2 days while taking the herbal tinctures? What do you think of large doses of Vitamin C. 25:52 – Barbara – I have Lyme Disease and I need serious help to get my life and health back. Can you please guide me on what to do? 42:47 – Rebecca - What in your opinion is the toughest condition to reverse? Would you say type 1 diabetes is one of them? I'm on your protocol with the condition and it's going well. I have a lot of your herbs but it's tough sometime with the blood glucose. Will start the Brain and nerve ll soon. I’ve had it since age 10 and I just recently turned 23 I really hope it won't take years to reverse. Any advice? 58:33 – Tristan - I am 14 years old so excuse my formality. The reason I am contacting you is because I have minor Pectus Excavatum my case is less than 1 inch deep and I would like to know if you know anyways to treat it without surgery. Thank You! 1:04:21 – Cherise - In your pregnancy videos, you spoke highly of a fruit diet. Freelee and others do as well though many eat lots of greens.. Would there be any possibility that I could eat very minimal of greens? I mostly like fruit only and hate my salads in the evenings, even if I am using avocado, cashew dressing, etc. I much prefer fruit. How much greens do pregnant moms need, if any as well as anyone? Could I just use minimal greens in smoothies? 1:12:46 – Vaidas – Wanted to ask you if flu or colds are contagious? 1:17:47 – Toni - My so is 18 and very active in sports. He has worse kidney pain since he started taking the kidney tonics and pills. He does drink enough water, about 10-12 cups a day. He does sweat a lot through his sports. I don't know what to do. He also does have acne just recently started. Could he be allergic? Please help advise me as his pap had kidney cancer My son also has a right partial branch bundle blockage in his heart. Dr.s say only to keep an eye on it. He is tired all the time. 1:24:48 – Vanessa - have an enlarged aorta and mitral valve prolapse. I am on Atenolol 25mg once daily as a preventative for further damage, I have been taking this for 14 years. I often feel tired because of this medication, I have eye floaters, anxiety and sometimes feel as if most of my blood is on my calf area. I am 5'7,130 pounds and 27 yrs old. I do not know what to do to feel better. I would love to know what you think about all this. 1:32:02 – Vanessa – Can you recommend a juicer make model that does the trick but does not cost the earth. I am taking apricot kernels, turmeric, cinnamon, lemon juice, black pepper and apple cider vinegar at present. Should I continue with these alongside the detox herbs and tinctures? 1:41:16 – A’oi – What are your thoughts on dis-ease and soul evolution? What is it meant to teach us (and members of our soul group)?

Lisinopril - Things you should know before taking Lisinopril

02:44
Learn important information on Lisinopril at http://www.lisinopril.us/ Lisinopril is a medication that is generally used for high blood pressure and congestive heart failure. It can also be prescribed after a heart attack. It comes from a group of drugs called ace inhibitors. It is usually taken once a day and can be taken with or without food. If you are using this medication you should keep a daily log of your blood pressure. Take this to your doctor, so they can review this information and adjust your medication accordingly. If you are just beginning to use this medication, be careful when you wake up in the morning. Don't get up out of bed to quickly, you may find yourself getting dizzy and could faint. Get up slowly and in steps, this will allow your body to adjust. The main side effect of this medication is dizziness. This is caused by hypotension, which means that your blood pressure is too low. If you find yourself becoming dizzy, contact your doctor so they can adjust your medication. You could experience nausea, vomiting and even diarrhea, when you begin using lisinopril. These symptoms are not uncommon, as your body adjusts to the new medication. If they persist, you should contact your physician. Some of the potential side effects of this medication are an increase in potassium. Supplements that have potassium in them should be avoided, unless recommended by your doctor. If your potassium levels become too high, it can cause arrhythmia. Read the labels of all the foods that you eat and look for potassium. For example, some salt substitutes use potassium and that could be problematic. If you are taking this medication and you become pregnant, you should switch to another blood pressure medication immediately. The use of this medication in the second or third trimester can damage or kill your unborn child. See your doctor and have them find a new medication for your high blood pressure. A rare, but serious side effect of this mediation is angioedema. This reaction can happen at any time, even after years of successfully taking lisinopril. You can recognize this reaction by a buildup of fluid in your face, throat and lips. It could be life threatening. If this should happen, call 911 or immediately go to an emergency room. This reaction is quite rare; however anyone using this medication should be aware of this reaction, in case it should happen to them. This information is purely for educational purposes only. Do not make any changes to your medication without consulting your physician. For more information on lisinopril, go to www.lisinopril.us http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpICMP9ps9g

Beta blocker Nebivolol (srrr form) in the binding pocket of beta-2 receptor

01:41
Beta-adrenergic receptors have many vital physiological functions: for example, beta-1 receptors are important for the contractility of heart muscle, beta-2 for lungs and beta-3 for adipose tissue. Due to their importance, beta receptors are natural targets for drug development. beta-1 blockers, atenolol, are used treatment of cardiac arrythmias and congestive heart disease. Beta-2, as it is important in lungs, is a target for asthma treatment. Salbutamol being one of the most common ones. Nebivolol is a fairly new beta blocker. It binds selectively to beta-1 receptors and it is used in treatment of hypertension. Nebivolol is the most selective beta-1 blocker. The origin of selectivity is, however, poorly understood. Our aim here is to investigate the molecular origin of this selectivity. This was done by combining large scale molecular dynamics and molecular docking studies using the beta-2 receptor with nebivolol. Our study shows that water has a very important role determining binding affinity. This is, to our knowledge, the first demonstration of the importance of water in beta-blocker binding. We used two optical isomers of nebivolol, the so-called ssss- and srrr-forms and the interactions with water turned out to be the decisive factor in the better binding of the srrr-form. The movies shows a nebivolol molecule (red) in the binding pocket of a beta-2 receptor. The receptor is embedded in a lipid membrane (shown in green) and we have zoomed into the region of the nebivolol-receptor interaction. The slow motion of hydrating water (purple) is very clear. DRUG TOO - yet another parody/spoof of the Cee Lo Green song Forget You

03:38
This song is a parody of a great song (Forget You) by Cee Lo Green that was originally developed for a pharmacy skit night a couple of years ago. I tried to use a lot of the original lyrics so that will explain some of the words and phrases in this spoof. The message in this parody is that there are many very useful medications that work such as nitroglycerin for chest pain, PPIs for heartburn, penicillin for a variety of infections, and acetaminophen for pain. However, there are also many medications that don't work or produce unacceptable side effects (atenolol - lowers blood pressure but doesn't reduce cardiovascular disease, Avandia reduces blood glucose but has no effect on cardiovascular disease or worsens it, Vioxx reduces pain but increases cardiovascular disease). It is in no way meant to be pro or anti-industry but rather that clinicians and patients need to be aware of the best available evidence. In addition, using very low doses and splitting tablets is a very important concept that will really help you use medications properly - see http://www.cmaj.ca/content/183/1/65 The bottom line is make sure you are familiar with the evidence before you use or recommend medications to patients and hey, be careful out there. Therapeutics Education Collaboration (TEC) Podcast http://therapeuticseducation.org The cool world picture made up of drugs was made by a great graphic artist called Sam Gilchrist. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

35:27
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a primary disease of the myocardium (the muscle of the heart) in which a portion of the myocardium is hypertrophied (thickened) without any obvious cause. It is a leading cause of sudden cardiac death in young athletes. The occurrence of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is a significant cause of sudden unexpected cardiac death in any age group and as a cause of disabling cardiac symptoms. Younger people are likely to have a more severe form of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. HCM is frequently asymptomatic until sudden cardiac death, and for this reason some suggest routinely screening certain populations for this disease. This video is targeted to blind users. Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome

24:03
Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome is a condition of dysautonomia, to be more specific orthostatic intolerance, in which a change from the supine position to an upright position causes an abnormally large increase in heart rate, called tachycardia. Several studies show a decrease in cerebral blood flow with systolic and diastolic cerebral blood flow velocity decreased 44% and 60%, respectively. People with POTS have problems maintaining homeostasis when changing position, e.g. moving from one chair to another or reaching above their heads. Many also experience symptoms when stationary or even while lying down. This video targeted to blind users. Attribution: Article text available under CC-BY-SA Public domain image source in video
