New treatment for aggressive breast cancer
Approximately 10–15 per cent of breast cancer cases do not respond to treatment with hormone therapy, which means that they are more aggressive and often recur. An international research team led by researchers at Lund University in Sweden has uncovered a way to treat these aggressive tumours through manipulation of the connective tissue cells of the tumour. The researchers are now developing a new drug that transforms aggressive breast cancer so that it becomes responsive to standard hormone therapy.

Researchers Note Alarming Rise In Breast Cancer Cases Among Asian-Americans
A new study suggests Asian-Americans' risk of breast cancer is steadily rising. In fact, the largest increase of breast cancer cases in American women today is within seven Asian ethnic groups--except for the Japanese. According to UPI, the largest increases were among Koreans, South Asians and Southeast Asians. Among women over age 50, there were increases in all Asian-American ethnic groups. Breast cancer rates among Asian-American women are still lower than among white women as a whole. However, the rates among Japanese and Filipino women younger than 50 were similar to rates for white women of the same age. http://www.upi.com/Health_News/2017/04/14/Breast-cancer-rates-for-Asian-American-women-steadily-rising-study-says/6361492192464/ http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

Foods that prevents Breast Cancer
About 1 in 8 women in the United States will develop breast cancer by the age of 95. Genetics play a strong role in some cases, but lifestyle and dietary factors may also play a role in many cases. Here are foods that may help prevent breast cancer or, once the cancer has developed, prevent it from spreading. Turmeric In one study of mice, researchers found that turmeric helped to prevent breast cancer from spreading to the lungs. Blueberries According to one study, the phytochemicals in blueberries work together to stop the growth and spread of triple-negative breast cancer, which carries a poorer prognosis than other forms of breast cancer. Tomatoes Tomatoes are high in lycopene, which has been found to lower the risk of breast cancer. Avocados Avocados are high in oleic acid, which studies have found to prevent cancer. Red Wine Consumed in moderation, red wine is believed to lower the risk of breast cancer. Red wine has also been found to significantly reduce the effects of radiation in women undergoing radiation therapy for cancer. One study found that the resveratrol in red wine makes the cancer cells more susceptible to radiation treatment while protecting the healthy cells from damage. Brussels Sprouts Brussels sprouts and all other cruciferous vegetables contain glucosinolates which are powerful cancer fighters. Brussels sprouts appear to have the most beneficial combination of glucosinolates when it comes to warding off breast cancer and other types of cancer. Pomegranate Juice Promising research in Israel shows that pomegranate juice destroys breast cancer cells while leaving healthy cells alone. Pomegranate juice may also prevent new breast cancer cells from forming. Flaxseed Oil Flaxseeds contain high levels of lignans, which protect against . Lignans may protect against estrogen-dependent cancers. Green Tea Studies show that drinking green tea lowers the risk of developing breast cancer and prevents it from spreading in women who have already have the disease. This is due to a compound in green tea called EGCG. Garlic Studies show that garlic eradicates breast cancer cells in testHave some garlic with that meat. Research has found that cooking garlic with meat reduces the carcinogenic chemicals in cooked meat that may be linked to breast cancer. Broccoli Broccoli contains indole-3-carbinol, a chemical that fights breast cancer by converting the type of estrogen that causes cancer into a more cancer-protective type of estrogen. Cauliflower Like broccoli, cauliflower is a great source of indole-3-carbinol. Spinach One study found that women who ate spinach at least twice a week had half the rate of breast cancer as women who didn't eat spinach. Grapefruit Studies show that grapefruit may inhibit breast cancer cells from proliferating. Dark Cherries Studies in rats found that a compound in cherries may inhibit breast cancer. Kelp A study at UC Berkeley found that a diet high in kelp lowered serum estradiol levels in women and had phytoestrogenic properties. Sea vegetables also contain chlorophylones, fatty acids that may help in the prevention of breast cancer. In addition, kelp contains fucoidan, which has been found in studies to induce apoptosis (cell death) of cancer cells. Artichokes Research has found that artichoke leaf extract induces apoptosis (cell death) and reduces cell proliferation in many types of cancer, including breast cancer. One Italian study found that the flavanoids in artichokes reduce the risk of breast cancer.

Breast Cancer Study Could Change How Early Growths Are Treated
I'm Carolyn Presutti with the VOA Special English Health Report, from http://voaspecialenglish.com | http://facebook.com/voalearningenglish Have you ever felt lumps under the skin on the sides of your neck when you were sick? Those might be lymph nodes. They can get swollen and painful but their job is to fight infection. Lymph nodes are part of the body's defenses known as the lymphatic system. This complex system throughout the body makes and transports a protective fluid called lymph. Lymph is made of white blood cells, proteins and fats.In a patient with breast cancer, the cancer can spread to the large number of lymph nodes under the arm. Doctors have traditionally removed many of these lymph nodes in the hope of removing all the cancer. But the latest research finds nothing to gain by removing so many lymph nodes. Doctors have two choices when breast cancer starts to spread. They can do what is called a sentinel node biopsy. They remove the main growth and one or two lymph nodes nearest to it. Or they can take more aggressive action and remove a lot of lymph nodes. But that can lead to shoulder pain and permanent swelling of the arm. Dr. Armando Giuliano at the John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica, California, was a leader of the study. He found that a sentinel node biopsy can be enough to eliminate all of the cancer. And the patient does not need to stay in a hospital to have it done. Dr. Giuliano and researchers at other American cancer centers studied almost nine hundred breast cancer patients. In each case, the cancer had spread to no more than two lymph nodes. Half of the women had the traditional surgery. Doctors removed an average of seventeen lymph nodes. The other half had the simpler operation with just one or two nodes removed. Then both groups received radiation treatment and chemotherapy drugs. Dr. Giuliano says rates of survival five years later showed that the less invasive operation was just as successful as the more aggressive action. He said the five-year survival was about ninety-two percent for patients who had either operation. The women who had the sentinel node biopsy alone did just as well as the women who had the more radical operation. The study appeared in the Journal of the American Medical Association. Some experts say the findings could change the way surgeons treat early breast cancers that have spread to the lymph nodes. But other doctors say they want more proof before they make a change. For VOA Special English, I'm Carolyn Presutti. (Adapted from a radio program broadcast 23Mar2011)
