In the middle of the winter is the most important time to supplement Vitamin D3 to create an environment for optimum brain and heart health. In certain studies, Americans has been found to be the #1 population in vitamin D deficiency. Some of the main symptoms of vitamin D deficiency are a weakened immune system, candida or bacterial overgrowth, emotional ups and downs, hormone imbalance, trouble putting on muscle or losing weight, weakened bones or teeth, cancer, heart disease, or diabetes. Vitamin D supports having a healthy immune response, digestive health, hormone balance, and more. The biggest causes of vitamin D deficiency are not getting enough sunlight, certain chemicals from plastic bottles (bpa), and toxicity. Try to get outside everyday for about 20-30 minutes of natural sunlight. Certain foods that are sources of vitamin D are wild caught fish, raw fermented milk, mushrooms, and eggs. However, there are small amounts in the food you eat. For a good supplement, I would recommend a high quality vitamin D supplement. You don’t want to take vitamin D2, but you do want to take vitamin D3. For supplementation, take about 2000-5000 IUs a day. However, if you have a severe deficiency, then for 1-2 months, you may take 5000 IUs twice daily. Lastly, you want to take your vitamin D3 with some form of fat like coconut oil or avocado to help absorption in your body. New UK Study Suggests Low Vitamin D Causes Damage to Brain By Allison Perry Nov 26, 2013 ________________________________________ LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 2, 2013) — A new study led by University of Kentucky researchers suggests that a diet low in vitamin D causes damage to the brain. In addition to being essential for maintaining bone health, newer evidence shows that vitamin D serves important roles in other organs and tissue, including the brain. Published in Free Radical Biology and Medicine, the UK study showed that middle-aged rats that were fed a diet low in vitamin D for several months developed free radical damage to the brain, and many different brain proteins were damaged as identified by redox proteomics. These rats also showed a significant decrease in cognitive performance on tests of learning and memory. "Given that vitamin D deficiency is especially widespread among the elderly, we investigated how during aging from middle-age to old-age how low vitamin D affected the oxidative status of the brain," said lead author on the paper Allan Butterfield, professor in the UK Department of Chemistry, director of the Center of Membrane Sciences, faculty of Sanders-Brown Center on Aging, and director of the Free Radical Biology in Cancer Core of the Markey Cancer Center. "Adequate vitamin D serum levels are necessary to prevent free radical damage in brain and subsequent deleterious consequences." Previously, low levels of vitamin D have been associated with Alzheimer's disease, and it's also been linked to the development of certain cancers and heart disease. In both the developed world and in areas of economic hardship where food intake is not always the most nutritious, vitamin D levels in humans are often low, particularly in the elderly population. Butterfield recommends persons consult their physicians to have their vitamin D levels determined, and if low that they eat foods rich in vitamin D, take vitamin D supplements, and/or get at least 10-15 minutes of sun exposure each day to ensure that vitamin D levels are normalized and remain so to help protect the brain.

"Vitamin D Update" is a presentation by William Grant, PhD that took place on October 19, 2017 at Silicon Valley Health Institute. Vitamin D is a vitamin that improves most of the contributing factors to chronic disease including inflammation and oxidative stress. It has been shown to be beneficial in conditions such as autism, diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, depression, psoriasis, osteoporosis, respiratory tract infections, cancer, Alzheimer's Disease, food allergies, and pregnancy. William B. Grant has PhD in physics from the University of California, Berkeley (1971). He had a 30-year career in atmospheric sciences with an emphasis on laser remote sensing of atmospheric constituents such as ozone and aerosols, with positions at SRI International (1973-79), the Jet Propulsion Laboratory/California Intitute of Technology (1979-89) and NASA Langley Research Center (1989-2004). He turned to health research in 1996, publishing the first paper linking diet to risk of Alzheimer’s disease in 1997, followed by studies of sugar, fat and coronary heart disease in 1998, and animal products and cancer risk in 1998. In 1999 he turned his attention to the role of solar ultraviolet-B exposure in reducing risk of many types of cancer through production of vitamin D in 2002. After retirement from NASA in 2004, he moved to San Francisco and formed the nonprofit organization Sunlight, Nutrition and Health Research Center (http://www.sunarc.org), where he spends most of his time studying the role of solar UVB exposure and vitamin D in reducing risk of cancer and many other types of disease. He also investigates the role of diet in risk of Alzheimer's disease and cancer. He has about 300 health publications listed at www.pubmed.gov, of which 210 are related to vitamin D, with 78 of these also on ultraviolet radiation and human health, and 41 to diet and disease. Dr. Dan Coit, a surgical oncologist that research melanomas or cancers of the skin and he found out that they are not related to sun exposure. Melanocytes are cells in the skin that release melanin that protects our skin against UV light. You get vitamin D from the sun and vitamin D is very protective against a lot of different types of cancer. He also talks about how some chemicals from the sunscreen can actually trigger cancer. Hey guys so i want to talk about the relationship between the uv light, sun and cancer. So there's definitely the thought out there that you need to stay out of the sun because it it's going to cause cancer and i just want to talk about the different aspects because that is not hundred percent true. There's a really good doctor that you should look into if you wanted to know more information about this. He is a surgical oncologist and his name is Dr. Dan Coit. He research melanomas which are the cancer of the skin. And he basically found out they are not related to the sun exposure. Which is quite interesting. Melanocytes are cells in the skin that release melanin which is a pigment that protects our skin against that UV light. That is what supposed to happen. Now you when you get sun you get vitamin D and Vitamin d is very protective against cancer not just in the skin but in a lot of different types of cancer. So why would the sun give you cancer if the sun gives you vitamin D that’s suppose to protect you against cancer. Here's what i think that is happening I think of a couple things number one If you're consuming a lot of sugar that you are setting your body up for a lot of oxidative damage. And you get a repetitive sunburns which causes inflammation and which we know cancer tends to go in the areas of the inflammation. So that's bad and you don't want to do that but the other thing is sunscreen actually have chemicals that are carcinogenic. Some of the chemicals of some of the sunscreen Actually can trigger cancer. So here you are putting stuff in your skin its absorbing into the bloodstream number one and number two it is blocking the vitamin D absorption so now you don't have the benefit of vitamin D but we get the chemicals because we are thinking that “Oh yea it is the sun that is causing the cancer” So we need the kind of align this information into something that makes sense. First of all you don't want to over do it with the sun. You don't want to also do tanning beds because you are getting a different type of UV. It is true that the sun does give some radiation that does cause damage in the cells but normally we are supposed to have antioxidants in our cells that protects us. Normally we supposed to have enough vitamin D to protect us and enough melanin in the skin to protect us. So i think if you are consuming very healthy foods a lot of antioxidant and you're not overdoing it with too much sun so you don't get burned, I believe that the sun is going to be healthy for the skin. But there is an interesting associated factor, i.e. the build up of calcium in the arteries of the brain. Also, if the arteries get packed with calcium packing, the arteries get hard and it might be one of the causes for high blood pressure. Stroke is a situation of blocking of vascular blood flow to the brain. Dosages to try: Healthy normal person: Vitamin D3 (10,000 IUs) + Vitamin K2 (MK-7) (100mcg) per day Unhealthy person: Vitamin D3 (30,000 IUs) + Vitamin K2 (MK-7) (300mcg) per day Vitamin D and K2 work together and help to mobilize calcium. You may want to consume both vitamins, in the morning with butter or coconut oil for better absorption (due to being fat soluble). Vitamin D3 is about absorption of calcium and vitamin K2 is about directing where calcium goes - both working together to keep your arteries and soft tissues clean and your bones strong. Unless you have osteoporosis, I would not recommend taking extra calcium. Instead consume some cheese on a daily basis. Most of the calcium in the body is recycled so adding more, is not needed. Never consume calcium carbonate (limestone) as your calcium. If you take calcium and vitamin D without K2, you may be in danger of excess calcium build up - calcification of your vessels. Yet K2 is a powerful inhibitor of calcification of soft tissues. Stephanie Seneff is a Senior Research Scientist at the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. She received the B.S. degree in Biophysics in 1968, the M.S. and E.E. degrees in Electrical Engineering in 1980, and the Ph.D degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in 1985, all from MIT. For over three decades, her research interests have always been at the intersection of biology and computation. She has published over 170 refereed articles on these subjects and has supervised numerous Master’s and PhD theses at MIT. In 2012, Dr. Seneff was elected Fellow of the International Speech and Communication Association (ISCA). In recent years, Dr. Seneff has focused her research interests back towards biology. She is concentrating mainly on the relationship between nutrition and health. Since 2011, she has published over two dozen papers in various medical and health-related journals on topics such as modern day diseases (e.g., Alzheimer, autism, cardiovascular diseases), analysis and search of databases of drug side effects using NLP techniques, and the impact of nutritional deficiencies and environmental toxins on human health.
