But heartburn doesn’t stop and start with food alone. If you have constant heartburn, it's time to track down the real culprit. Why am I in pain? Heartburn is as American as apple pie—more than 60 million people experience it at least once a month. For some people—those with gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD—heartburn can be a constant companion. Some heartburn triggers are obvious: chili dogs, chocolate cake, Thanksgiving. But heartburn doesn’t stop and start with food alone. If you have constant heartburn, it's time to track down the real culprit. Click through this slideshow to find some sneaky—and often overlooked—causes of heartburn. Smoking As if anyone needed another reason to quit: Smoking makes GERD worse. Smoking can weaken the valve between the stomach and esophagus (so stomach acid flows back into the esophagus); cause fat-digesting bile salts to migrate from the small intestine to the stomach; and cut down on saliva, which normally flushes stomach acid out of the esophagus and contains a natural acid-fighter, bicarbonate. How do you spell heartburn relief? Q-U-I-T. (If you need help, visit our smoking cessation center.) Pills Prone to frequent headaches and heartburn? Think twice about reaching for the ibuprofen. When used regularly, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen or naproxen can trigger heartburn. Some prescription drugs can too, including antibiotics, calcium channel blockers (for high blood pressure), bronchodilators such as albuterol (for asthma and COPD), osteoporosis drugs, and some sedatives. Consult your doctor if you think your Rx is causing heartburn—don't just decide to stop taking a drug on your own. Fish oil supplements Fish oil contains omega-3 fatty acids and has been hailed as a natural way to manage heart disease, depression, and countless other health conditions. However, it can also cause heartburn. The oil—not the fish—appears to be responsible for gastrointestinal side effects. Fish itself is low in fat and high in protein and is an excellent food for heartburn sufferers when used in a healthy, heartburn-soothing recipe. Stress Stress does seem to trigger heartburn, but the relationship is trickier than you might think. Stress does not cause an off-the-charts surge in stomach acid production. However, a study in the Journal of Psychosomatic Research suggests that a heartburn patient's perception of his symptoms—and not the actual levels of stomach acid—are associated with stress. In other words, stressed people may be more aware of heartburn symptoms or the neurological effects of stress might ratchet up pain receptors in the esophagus. Peppermint Peppermint, like fish oil, is a double-edged sword when it comes to the stomach. Peppermint tea, peppermint-oil capsules, and even peppermint candies are often used to settle upset stomachs—but these remedies can backfire on people with GERD. The soothing and numbing effect of menthol tends to relax the valve that separates the stomach and esophagus (known as the lower esophageal sphincter), which can cause stomach acids to drift up the esophagus more easily, aggravating heartburn. How to treat Acid Reflux and prevent heartburn and chest pain. Recognize acid reflux symptoms

01:48
►►► What Is Acid Reflux Disease? Click here http://tinyurl.com/acid-reflux-natural At the entrance to your stomach is a valve, which is a ring of muscle called the lower esophageal sphincter (LES). Normally, the LES closes as soon as food passes through it. If the LES doesn't close all the way or if it opens too often, acid produced by your stomach can move up into your esophagus. This can cause symptoms such as a burning chest pain called heartburn. If acid reflux symptoms happen more than twice a week, you have acid reflux disease, also known as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). ►►►Build your own cloud: http://tinyurl.com/build-your-own-cloud. What Causes Acid Reflux Disease? One common cause of acid reflux disease is a stomach abnormality called a hiatal hernia. This occurs when the upper part of the stomach and LES move above the diaphragm, a muscle that separates your stomach from your chest. Normally, the diaphragm helps keep acid in our stomach. But if you have a hiatal hernia, acid can move up into your esophagus and cause symptoms of acid reflux disease. These are other common risk factors for acid reflux disease: Eating large meals or lying down right after a meal Being overweight or obese Eating a heavy meal and lying on your back or bending over at the waist Snacking close to bedtime Eating certain foods, such as citrus, tomato, chocolate, mint, garlic, onions, or spicy or fatty foods Drinking certain beverages, such as alcohol, carbonated drinks, coffee, or tea Smoking Being pregnant Taking aspirin, ibuprofen, certain muscle relaxers, or blood pressure medications What Are the Symptoms of Acid Reflux Disease? Common symptoms of acid reflux are: Heartburn: a burning pain or discomfort that may move from your stomach to your abdomen or chest, or even up into your throat Regurgitation: a sour or bitter-tasting acid backing up into your throat or mouth Other symptoms of acid reflux disease include: Bloating Bloody or black stools or bloody vomiting Burping Dysphagia -- a narrowing of your esophagus, which creates the sensation of food being stuck in your throat Hiccups that don't let up Nausea Weight loss for no known reason Wheezing, dry cough, hoarseness, or chronic sore throat How Is Acid Reflux Disease Diagnosed? It's time to see your doctor if you have acid reflux symptoms two or more times a week or if medications don't bring lasting relief. Symptoms such as heartburn are the key to the diagnosis of acid reflux disease, especially if lifestyle changes, antacids, or acid-blocking medications help reduce these symptoms. If these steps don't help or if you have frequent or severe symptoms, your doctor may order tests to confirm a diagnosis and check for other problems. You may need one or more tests such as these: Barium swallow (esophagram) can check for ulcers or a narrowing of the esophagus. You first swallow a solution to help structures show up on an X-ray. Esophageal manometry can check the function of the esophagus and lower esophageal sphincter. pH monitoring can check for acid in your esophagus. The doctor inserts a device into your esophagus and leaves it in place for 1 to 2 days to measure the amount of acid in your esophagus. Endoscopy can check for problems in your esophagus or stomach. This test involves inserting a long, flexible, lighted tube down your throat. First, the doctor will spray the back of your throat with anesthetic and give you a sedative to make you more comfortable. A biopsy may be taken during endoscopy to check samples of tissue under a microscope for infection or abnormalities. Source: http://www.webmd.com/heartburn-gerd/g... How to Use Home Remedies for Decreasing Stomach Acid|symptoms heartburn

How to Use Home Remedies for Decreasing Stomach Acid|symptoms heartburn Disclaimer: This Video Only For Educational Purpose Please Consult To Your Doctor Stomach acids are necessary for the digestion of food. However, if too much acid develops in the stomach, it can cause acid reflux (heartburn) or a disease called acid reflux reflux disease (GERD).[1] You may experience uncomfortable or even painful symptoms, including gas and bloating, a burning feeling in your stomach or the back of your throat, dry cough, wheezing, and chest pain.[2] Most people suffer from these symptoms from time to time, usually after eating certain foods, eating too quickly without chewing food well, or lying down too soon after eating. Obesity, pregnancy, and other medical conditions can also lead to increased stomach acid. 1 Check for symptoms of esophagitis. Acid reflux may be a symptom of a condition called esophagitis, in which the esophagus becomes inflamed, causing esophageal narrowing, damaging the tissue, and increasing the chances of choking on your food. If left untreated, esophagitis can lead to severe tissue damage and esophageal cancer. Common symptoms are heartburn, difficulty swallowing, and chest pain that occurs while eating.[4] A cold, flu, or other viral infection should be treated immediately if you have acid reflux, as it can lead to increased inflammation in the food pipe. See your doctor if symptoms:[5] Last longer than a few days or don't improve with over-the-counter antacids Are severe enough to make eating difficult Are accompanied by flu signs and symptoms, such as headache, fever, and muscle aches Are accompanied by shortness of breath or chest pain that occurs shortly after eating Get emergency care if you experience pain in your chest that lasts more than a few minutes, suspect you have food lodged in your esophagus, have a history of heart disease, or have impaired immune function. 2 Check for symptoms for gastritis. Heartburn may also be a symptom of gastritis. Gastritis is an inflammation of the stomach lining often caused by helicobacter pylori bacteria, which may also cause stomach ulcers. An autoimmune disorder, a backup of bile into the stomach, or long-term use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen, can also cause gastritis.[6] Common symptoms of gastritis include:[7] Indigestion Heartburn Abdominal pain Hiccups Loss of appetite Nausea Vomiting, possibly of material that looks like ground coffee (blood) Dark stools 3 Check for signs of gastroparesis. Gastroparesis is a condition in which the movement of the muscles in your stomach does not function normally, preventing your stomach from emptying properly. This can cause acid reflux and vomiting by backing up stomach acids in the esophagus.[8] People are more likely to develop this condition if they have diabetes or recently had a surgery. Symptoms of gastroparesis include:[9] Vomiting Nausea A feeling of fullness after eating just a few bites Abdominal bloating Abdominal pain Changes in blood sugar levels Lack of appetite Weight loss and malnutrition 4 Get emergency medical care. Heartburn, angina, and heart attack may feel very much alike. Both heartburn and a developing heart attack can cause symptoms that subside after a while. Click This Link To Get The Best Home Remedies For Heartburn http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aifdxZhrqvM The esophagus is a tube that connects the stomach to the mouth. The foods that you are consuming goes through this tube-like structure and is trapped inside the stomach by a valve known as the LES or the lower esophageal sphincter. However, there are times when this valve is weakened by certain conditions, thus causing it to not close properly and allowing acid to reflux back to the stomach and this give rise to heartburn symptoms. Although gastric juices are strong, the stomach cannot be damaged by it as it has a protective lining. However, it is not the same case as the esophagus. Once these gastric juices touch the esophagus, this tube-like structure becomes inflamed, as it does not have a protective lining in it. The condition can be due to several risk factors, such as the consumption of caffeinated, alcoholic and carbonated drinks, as well as the intake of highly acidic foods. Conditions like pregnancy and obesity can also trigger the condition, as it can add pressure to the stomach, thus causing the acid from the stomach to regurgitate back to the esophagus. Diseases like sarcoidosis, scleroderma, hiatal hernia and certain medications like ibuprofen and aspirin can also result to heartburn or acid reflux. However, you should know that the condition can be treated easily, as there are various medications and remedies available for it. How to choose the right over-the-counter pain medication for you

03:53
What the best over-the-counter medication to stop your pain? Emory Internist Dr. Sharon Bergquist, says you've got two main choices at the drugstore.. "One type is Acetaminophen, or Tylenol," Dr. Bergquist says. "The other type is the family we call NSAIDs, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs." Think aspirin, ibuprofen or naproxen. All NSAIDs. But there are some key differences in how the two types of drugs work. "One of the main differences is that the NSAID family are anti-inflammatories," says Dr. Bergquist. "They're not just pain relievers; they reduce inflammation. Tylenol has no anti-inflammatory properties, so it is purely a pain reliever." So, for a headache or fever, Acetaminophen or Tylenol may be your best bet. "If you sprain your ankle, if you stub your toe, inflammatory type injuries, you're better of with an anti-inflammatory pain reliever," Dr. Bergquist says. But what about possible side effects? Bergquist says there can be plenty. "I think a lot of people underestimate the risks of over-the-counter pain medications," she says. Read the label, take only the recommended dose, and Dr. Bergquist says keep in mind most side effects come with regular use. "But, if you just use them periodically, you should be fine," she says. Anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen can cause stomach pain, heartburn and stomach ulcers. "If you have a sensitive stomach, always take it with food," says Dr. Bergquist. "That is really critical." NSAIDS, especially aspirin, are also bloodthinners, so they can increase your risk of bleeding. And Dr. Berquist says they can raise blood pressure, and cause kidney problems, especially in people with underlying kidney disease. If you take Tylenol, or Acetaminophen , watch for common symptoms like nausea, stomach pain, loss of appetite, headache, and dizziness. Taking more than the recommended amount of Tylenol or Acetaminophen has also been linked to liver toxicity, and even liver failure. "Acetaminophen goes through your liver," Dr. Bergquist explains. "So if you have underlying liver disease you should steer clear of Acetaminophen. And, if you drink alcohol, which is also broken down by the liver, you should steer clear of Acetaminophen." If you regularly take a medication like Motrin or Tylenol, Bergquist says tell your doctor. Some side effects like liver and kidney problems can only be detected through bloodwork. Bottom line? Dr. Bergquist says follow the directions and don't take above the recommended daily amount listed on the box. NEXT ARTICLE: Georgia mom kicks off cancer fight with a party

I'm your host Sgt. Volkin, and in this episode I'll be fielding questions from a fake audience today. Alright, thank you very much. So, what will happen if you bring your prescription medicines to Basic Training? Very easy answer. It's going to be taken away from you. If you require medication you most likely won't get passed MEPS, or the Medical Entrance Processing Station. Once you're at Basic Training and you need to obtain medicine, you can go to Sick Hall and get it there. Sick Hall's not that much fun though. If the medication is strong enough that you can overdose, you're going to have to take the medication with your Drill Sargeant, and that usually comes with contingencies like doing push-ups so that's not fun. So, let's go ahead and go to the questions from our fake audience. Question number one: ""Can I bring my birth control with me to Basic Training""? The answer is 'No' Question number two: ""Can I bring my asthma inhaler?"" The answer is 'No' In fact, you can't even get into the military with asthma, so the answer is still 'No'. Question number three: ""Can I bring my heartburn pills?"" The answer is 'No'. Another question from our fake audience is ""Can I bring my heart-worm medication?"" Not unless you're a canine and if you're a canine, you can't get into the military, so the answer is 'No'. Another question: ""Can I bring my Viagra?"" 'No', not sure why you're going to want to bring that to Basic Training anyway. Thank you for joining me on the series premier and the final episode of ""What About My Prescription?"""

4 SURPRISING HEARTBURN FACTS

04:05
MORE INFORMATION: http://tiny.kim/1ec5d FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/HealthPsicoFisioSocial 4 Surprising Heartburn Facts Heartburn's simple, right? Eat too much (like five trips at the all-you-can-eat buffet), or eat the wrong things (like Uncle Joe's "inferno" chicken wings), and you're in trouble. So you slip an antacid, and you're good to go. But there's actually a lot more to heartburn than that. For example, did you know that a chronic cough could be heartburn-related? Or that the pain medications you take may bring on the burn? Or that there's a little-known heartburn remedy in the candy aisle? Check out these four surprising facts about heartburn: 1. Triggers come in many shapes and sizes. Perhaps you've heard that you should avoid the spicy foods, the chocolate, the colas, the acid-laden tomato-based dishes. But lesser-known triggers may be hiding in the medicine cabinet -- medications that could weaken your lower esophageal sphincter (LES) and cause stomach contents to creep back up into your esophagus. One common culprit: over-the-counter nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen or aspirin. Another: antihistamines, be they over-the-counter or prescription. Others: birth control pills and antispasmodics. Talk to your doctor if you think medications may be contributing to your heartburn. 2. Remedies don't have to come from the medicine cabinet. Antacids and other heartburn medications are certainly one good option for soothing -- or preventing -- the burn. But here are some other simple tricks to try: Chew gum for 30 minutes after a meal. Chewing gum stimulates swallowing, which reduces the acid reflux that often occurs after eating. Choose sugar-free varieties -- and no mint. Mint can bring on heartburn. Cut the salt and fat, and up the fiber. Consuming less total fat and salt and more fiber may help reduce acid-reflux symptoms. Stick with the tried and true. With all the heartburn advice out there, stick with strategies backed by the best evidence. Two proven heartburn beaters: losing weight (dropping as little as 10% of your body weight can relieve heartburn symptoms) and elevating the head of your bed for sleep. 3. Heartburn goes beyond the burn: cough, tickle, teeth. Frequent or severe reflux, called gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), not only may irritate your esophagus but also may contribute to sinusitis, coughing, hoarseness, asthma, bad breath, gum inflammation, and erosion of your tooth enamel. The acidic reflux can irritate or damage just about any surface with which it comes into contact. 4. Your family tree may affect you. Does Dad pop antacids like candy? Does your sister feel the burn after every latte? Genetics may account for up to 43% of your susceptibility to heartburn. But no matter what the cause -- chili fries, a pain pill, or taking after Dad -- you have options for staying heartburn free. MORE INFORMATION: http://tiny.kim/1ec5d

Do I have a stomach ulcer?

02:13
Many people associate stomach ulcers with stress and spicy foods. While these things probably don't help, most stomach ulcers are caused by a bacteria called Helicobacter pylori or by overuse of certain medications like aspirin and ibuprofen. An ulcer is an open painful sore that can be found in the stomach or the first part of the small intestines, called the duodenum. The normal stomach produces acid which helps digest food and kills most swallowed bacteria, but when the protective gel layer of the stomach is disrupted by medications or Helicobacter pylori, an ulcer can result. So how do you know if you have an ulcer? Let's give Michael here some Helicobacter pylori and a few extra doses of ibuprofen to find out. So Michael, how do you feel? Not so good? It looks like you have burning pain in the middle upper part of your belly, nausea and vomiting, decreased appetite, weight loss, and even what appears to be blood in your vomit and bowel movements. You better see a doctor. I would be willing to bet that your doctor will give you a long acting antacid and check you for Helicobacter pylori infection. He may even send you to a specialist who can perform an endoscopy. This lovely procedure involves pushing a tubelike camera through your mouth and investigating the stomach wall up close and personal. But don't worry, you'll be asleep during the procedure. Helicobacter pylori infection can be cured with antibiotics. Most stomach ulcers require treatment with antacids for several months or longer. Oh, and by the way, Michael, you may want to stop drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes, and drinking 4 cups of coffee per day. All of these things can make a stomach ulcer worse. So it looks like Michael is feeling better. That is good. Most stomach ulcers are easy to fix with medications, but complications can be serious. But don't take my word for it, talk to your doctor if you have any concerns. Michael K. Davis, MD The Impatient Doctor

Acid Reflux Irritation http://acidreflux.product-truths.com - Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease Gastroesophageal reflux illness (GERD) is really a situation in which the stomach contents (meals or liquid) leak backwards in the stomach into the esophagus (the tube in the mouth to the stomach). This action can irritate the esophagus, causing heartburn and other symptoms. Causes, incidence, and risk elements When you consume, food passes from the throat towards the stomach via the esophagus (also known as the food pipe or swallowing tube). Once food is in the stomach, a ring of muscle fibers prevents food from moving backward into the esophagus. These muscle fibers are known as the reduce esophageal sphincter, or LES. If this sphincter muscle does not close well, meals, liquid, and stomach acid can leak back into the esophagus. This really is called reflux or gastroesophageal reflux. Reflux may cause symptoms, or it can even harm the esophagus. 1 common cause of acid reflux illness is really a stomach abnormality known as a hiatal hernia. This happens when the upper part of the stomach and LES move above the diaphragm, a muscle that separates your stomach from your chest. Normally, the diaphragm helps maintain acid in our stomach. But in the event you have a hiatal hernia, acid can move up into your esophagus and cause symptoms of acid reflux disease. These are other common risk factors for acid reflux disease: - Eating big meals or lying down right following a meal - Being overweight or obese - Eating a heavy meal and lying in your back or bending more than in the waist - Snacking close to bedtime - Consuming certain foods, like citrus, tomato, chocolate, mint, garlic, onions, or spicy or fatty foods - Drinking particular beverages, such as alcohol, carbonated drinks, coffee, or tea - Smoking - Being pregnant - Taking aspirin, ibuprofen, particular muscle relaxers, or blood pressure medications What Would be the Symptoms of Acid Reflux Disease?
