Getting an erection is really a complicated process. Anatomy of an Erection In the shaft of the penis there are two side-by-side chambers of spongy tissue called the corpora cavernosa. They're mainly responsible for erections. Just below them is another chamber called the corpus spongiosum. The urethra, which carries semen and urine, runs through the center of it. The corpora cavernosa are made of small arteries and veins, smooth muscle fiber, and empty spaces. The chambers are wrapped in a sheath of thin tissue. When you get an erection, signals from the brain or nerve endings in the penis cause the smooth muscle of the chambers to relax and arteries to dilate, or open wider. This allows a rush of blood to fill the empty spaces. The pressure of blood flow causes the sheath of tissue around the chambers to press on veins that normally drain blood out of the penis. That traps blood in the penis. As more blood flows in, the penis expands and stiffens, and you have an erection. When the excitement ends, the smooth muscle contracts again, taking pressure off the veins and allowing blood to flow back out of the penis. Then the penis returns to a flaccid state. High Blood Pressure and Other Causes of Erectile Dysfunction High blood pressure is a major cause of erection problems. A study in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society found that about 49% of men ages 40 to 79 with high blood pressure had erectile dysfunction. Another study of men with high blood pressure, published in the Journal of Urology, found that 68% of them had some degree of erectile dysfunction. For 45% of the men, it was considered severe. High blood pressure keeps the arteries that carry blood into the penis from dilating the way they're supposed to. It also makes the smooth muscle in the penis lose its ability to relax. To make it worse, most people are loaded on caffeine products -- coffee, "energy drinks", tea and so forth. When you're dehydrated, your more tired and fatigued. This causes you to move less and burn less calories. Drinking water, especially cold water, causes a thermogenic effect, similar to eating more meals. Seeing blood in the semen can make a man anxious. Fortunately, it doesn't always signal a major medical problem. For men younger than 40 with no related symptoms and no risk factors for underlying medical conditions, blood in semen often disappears on its own. But for men 40 and over, chances are higher that blood in the semen needs evaluation and treatment. This is especially true for men who: Have repeated episodes of blood in the semen Have related symptoms while urinating or ejaculating Are at risk for cancer, a bleeding disorder, or other conditions Blood in the semen is called hematospermia or hemospermia. When men ejaculate, they typically don't examine their semen looking for blood. So it’s not known how common the condition is. Causes of Blood in the Semen Blood in the semen can come from several different sources: Infection and inflammation. This is the most common cause of blood in the semen. Blood can come from an infection or inflammation, in any of the glands, tubes, or ducts that produce and move semen from the body. These include: Prostate(the gland that produces the fluid part of semen) Urethra (the tube that carries urine and semen from the penis) Epididymis and vas deferens (tiny tube-like structures where sperm mature before ejaculation) Seminal vesicles (which add more fluid to the semen) It can also come from an STI (sexually transmitted infection) such as gonorrhea or chlamydia, or from another viral or bacterial infection. Infection and inflammation are the culprits behind nearly four out of every ten cases of blood in the semen. Trauma or a medical procedure. Blood in the semen is common after medical procedures. For instance, as many as four out of five men may temporarily have blood in their semen following a prostate biopsy. Procedures done as treatment for urinary problems can also cause mild trauma that leads to temporary bleeding. This usually disappears within several weeks after the procedure. That will include a history of any recent sexual activity. The doctor will also perform a physical exam. This will include examining the genitals for lumps or swelling and a digital rectal exam to check the prostate for swelling, tenderness, and other symptoms. The doctor may also ask for the following tests: Urinalysis or urine culture to identify infection or other abnormalities. STD testing if a sexually transmitted disease is suspected. The "condom test" if there's a possibility that blood in the semen is actually coming from a sexual partner's menstrual cycle. The man will be told to wear a condom and then examine the "protected" semen for blood.

And the truth is that I get a lot of questions about this topic. So the fact is that exercise can increase OR decrease your testosterone levels. It all depends on what you do, when, where, how often and for how long. And thus, you can gain OR lose muscle. Decrease OR increase belly fat. Gain OR lose strength. Increase OR decrease your energy levels. Improve or decline immune system. And you can increase or decrease your sex drive, libido and happiness. When I was younger, I would exercise 5-6x weekly. I would work out for at least an hour. I would lift heavy weights, I’d push hard and go to “failure” on all my exercises. I would also do cardio almost daily - for at least 30 minutes or more. Typically it was the bike, jogging, stairmaster, etc. It was a hard workout and I would always leave the gym feeling exhausted. However, I felt like I had a good, “honest” workout because I gave it my all and pushed as much as I can. I did this for years… The end result - sadly, I looked the same all the time!... I always seemed like I had a cold and I’d get sick often. I never had any energy to do much else -- I was just tired from my workouts. The end result is I looked “skinny-fat”. You know, not muscular or “lean”. It just didn’t look good. I was “puffy” and “squishy” all the time. And sadly, my sex drive was kinda “blah”. Granted, because I was YOUNG, it was still “okay”. However, compared to my friends - it was much lower. Then one day I decided to do a hormone test because I was just curious. Well, guess what -- my testosterone levels were low. Worst of all, my “negative” hormones were “high”... Thus, my hormones were not good, not optimal -- definitely not for a 23 year old man. ...When things should have been much better and I should have had super high testosterone levels. I realized then that without the right hormones - it doesn’t matter what you do, how much you exercise or what you eat -- you’re screwed! This is why steroids are so powerful. They give you “optimal” levels. However, you can make your own“natural steroids” from within, and not have any of the negative side-effects … IF you know what to do and more importantly, what NOT to do. DON’TS Eliminate or limit stressful cardio. This means no running, jogging, biking, etc. These all decrease your testosterone and increase stress hormones. Don’t kill yourself every workout, go to failure, pushing hard, etc. When you are “natural” and have “regular” genetics, you can’t push so much, so often… When I ask most people “what’s the opposite of testosterone”, people typically reply back with “estrogen”, the female hormone. However, this is not true. Actually, the opposite of testosterone is the stress hormone, cortisol. Cortisol does the opposite of testosterone. It decreases muscle and strength, increases belly fat, makes you tired and kills your sex drive. We certainly know that a lack of sleep will actually prevent your brain from being able to initially make new memories, so it's almost as though without sleep the memory inbox of the brain shuts down and you can't commit new experiences to memory. So those new incoming informational emails are just bounced, and you end up feeling as though you're amnesiac. You can't essentially make and create those new memories. We also know that a lack of sleep will lead to an increased development of a toxic protein in the brain that is called beta amyloid and that is associated with Alzheimer's disease because it is during deep sleep at night when a sewage system within the brain actually kicks in to high gear and it starts to wash away this toxic protein, beta amyloid. So if you're not getting enough sleep each and every night, more of that Alzheimer's-related protein will build up. The more protein that builds up, the greater your risk of going on to develop dementia in later life. What are the effects of sleep deprivation on the body? Well, there are many different effects. Firstly, we know that sleep deprivation affects the reproductive system. We know that men who are sleeping just five to six hours a night have a level of testosterone which is that of someone ten years their senior. So a lack of sleep will age you by almost a decade in terms of that aspect of virility and wellness. We also know that a lack of sleep impacts your immune system. So after just one night of four to five hours of sleep, there is a 70% reduction in critical anticancer-fighting immune cells called natural killer cells. And that's the reason that we know that short sleep duration predicts your risk for developing numerous forms of cancer. And that list currently includes cancer of the bowel, cancer of the prostate, as well as cancer of the breast. In fact, the link between a lack of sleep and cancer is now so strong that recently the World Health Organization decided to classify any form of nighttime shift work as a probable carcinogen. So in other words, jobs that may induce cancer because of a disruption of your sleep rate rhythms. We also know that a lack of sleep impacts your cardiovascular system because it is during deep sleep at night that you receive this most wonderful form of effectively blood pressure medication. Your heart rate drops, your blood pressure goes down. If you're not getting sufficient sleep, you're not getting that reboot of the cardiovascular system, so your blood pressure rises. You have, if you're getting six hours of sleep or less, a 200% increased risk of having a fatal heart attack or stroke in your lifetime. There is a global experiment that is performed on 1.6 billion people twice a year and it's called daylight saving time. And we know that in the spring, when we lose one hour of sleep, we see a subsequent 24% increase in heart attacks the following day. Another question, perhaps, is what is the recycle rate of a human being? How long can we actually last without sleep before we start to see declines in your brain function or even impairments within your body? And the answer seems to be about 16 hours of wakefulness. Once you get past 16 hours of being awake, that's when we start to see mental deterioration and physiological deterioration in the body. We know that after you've been awake for 19 or 20 hours, your mental capacity is so impaired that you would be as deficient as someone who was legally drunk behind the wheel of a car. So if you were to ask me what is the recycle rate of a human being, it does seem to be about 16 hours and we need about eight hours of sleep to repair the damage of wakefulness. Wakefulness essentially is low-level brain damage.

Keep intense cardio to a minimum because it lowers testosterone and increases negative hormones. Thus, no running, jogging, biking. A brisk walk for 30 mins daily is great. Certain drugs can contribute to excess hair growth, changed in the hair color, or texture of hair loss. Drugs cause hair loss by interfering with the normal cycle of scalp hair growth. During the anagen phase, which lasts for about 2 to 6 years the hair grows to the telogen phase, which lasts about 3 months, the hair rests. At the end of every telogen phase, the hair falls down and there is replacement of new hair. Medications can lead to 2 types of hair loss. One is called as telogen effluvium and second is called as Anagen effluvium. Telogen effluvium is the most common form of drug induced hair loss. It usually appears within 2 to 4 months after taking the drug. This condition causes the hair follicles to go onto their resting phase, that is telogen and follow too early. People with the telogen effluvium usefully shed between 100 to 150 hairs per day. Aanagen effluvium is the type of hair loss that occurs in the anagen phase of the hair cycle when the hairs are actively growing. It permits the matrix cells which produces new hair from dividing normally. That type of hair loss occurs within the first two days to weeks after taking the medication. It is most common in people who are taking chemotherapy drugs for cancer and is often severe in most of the people who loose most of all of their hair on the head as well as their eye brows, eyelashes and other body hair. The severity of the drug induced hair loss depends on the severity of the drug and the dose as well as the sensitivity to the drug. What are the type of drugs causing this hair loss? Muscles- According to Livestrong.com, your muscles form some of the integral tissues in your body, and tissue changes occur with resistance exercise. Any form of exercise which includes lifting weights, jogging or doing pushups is some kind of resistance activity being placed on your muscles. When the resistance is greater than what your body can handle, muscle building or muscle hypertrophy is activated. So more blood is driven to the muscles being exercised to give additional oxygen. Without the supplemental oxygen, lactic acid will form in the body instead. But it is usually flushed out of the body within half an hour to an hour after working out. Tiny tears build in the muscle which helps them become active and bigger as the heal. This is perfectly normal. The greater the tear, the more you’ll be sore after exercising. This typically only lasts a few days as soreness means there are changes in your muscles. 11. Heart- As with any workout, your heart rate increases because you’re working much harder than you normally are. How much your rate will go up depends on how fit you are and the type of exercise you’re doing. Training experts vary on how high your heart rate should be when working out, but it does need to be significantly higher than your resting heart rate to enhance your cardiovascular fitness. As you begin your workout, your skeletal muscles compress the veins near them which push the blood towards your heart. They contract and relax, driving extra blood to your heart which causes your heart rate to go up. Within this process, it means you’re putting more labor on your arm and leg muscles which pump more blood to your heart. So when working out your heart will get used to high-level performance, and these changes will minimize your resting heart rate and boost your heart rate recovery after you exercise. 10. Lungs- During your workout, aside from your heart, another vital organ comes in action: the lungs. Your lungs provide energy, oxygen and eliminate carbon dioxide which is created when producing energy. When you have healthy lungs, you keep maintaining a large breathing reserve. You may feel out of breath after intense activity, but you will not be out of breath. When your muscles and your body start to work harder, you will use more oxygen and make more carbon dioxide. To bear with the extra demand, you will start to increase your breathing from about 10 to 15 times a minute. Your circulation will also increase to force oxygen to your muscles so they can keep moving. When your lung function is cut short, you use a larger part of your breathing reserve which can feel uncomfortable as you try to catch your breath. This is entirely normal, and this type of training helps with circulation. Regular exercise activity can improve the function and strength of your lungs, making it more efficient. 9. Skin- When you exercise your increasing blood flow which helps maintain skin cells and keep them nourished. Your blood transports nutrients and oxygen to the cells working throughout your entire body including the skin. In addition, it improves wrinkles and acne and can even reverse skin aging. Also blood flow aids in washing away any waste products which flushes cellular debris from your body. Think of it as cleansing your body but from the inside. Sweating can help drive draw out the toxins in your body, but don’t assume this is a quick fix to vanish pimples. Exercise then shower afterward. Working out also helps to flush out your pores. With aerobic exercise, oxygenated blood circulates throughout your entire body will cause you to glow because your blood vessels fill up closer to the surface. Evolution is Not an Illness. Personally I think there is grave danger in treating the symptoms of kundalini arousal with psychiatric drugs and other forms of suppression. Since the metamorphic symptoms represent a dismantling, purification and strengthening at work, it is these functions that should be supported and encouraged. Thus our intent must be to go-into and work-with the process, rather than fight it in the effort to remain bound to the pupael bodymind. Understanding the psycho-biology of the transformation is vital to navigating the storms of this greatest of upheavals. Kundalini is the raising of the energy of the body in an alchemical process of spiritual emergence of the higher self. The medical world do not yet know what they are dealing with in kundalini. They do not know that a hyperactivated sympathetic is going to eventually flip into a hyperactivated parasympathetic...and that we need soothing reassuring conditions not drugs. The cycles must be left alone to take us through our heights and depths. If we get tranquilized during an up-phase then it will just flatten the energy extremes and dull the mind, so we will not get any benefit from the alchemy, but instead will be spiritually impaired instead. Kundalini can take us to the limits of our energetic and emotional endurance...this is as it supposed to be. If tranquilizers are used instead of allowing the energy to do its cleansing and restructuring then chances are we will just go into an extended depression instead of a spiritual awakening. The same goes for antidepressants and anesthetics as well...however there might be the occasion where these things might be necessary in an emergency. The medical world also need to be familiar with Dr Batmanghelidj's understanding of hydration and blood pressure; along with the understanding that the high blood pressure of sympathetic activation does not need to be medicated, nor does the low blood pressure when things shift over to parasympathetic dominance. Medically messing around with current symptoms without considering the cyclic nature of kundalini will simply abort any growth potential inherent in the metamorphic process. Imagine trying to stop a chrysalis from dissolving because you are ignorant of the butterfly about to be created...that is what medical meddling is. We must understand the hyperbolic nature of kundalini and support all phases in the fullness of their process rather than trying to counteract each extreme to bring it back to normal physiology and so prevent the butterfly from forming altogether. Digestion takes the most amount of energy of any activity. The reason we overeat is because we have not "planned" our life and directed our energy toward achievable goals. Thus we "eat our energy" rather than send it forth in self development and achievement. If we are not moving forward, we tend to hold ourselves back! There is a much better way of working with the symptoms than snuffing them out by diverting energy to digestion. Since the difficult symptoms we experience are due to kundalini working its way through deformations, it doesn't make sense to "reduce" the fire. Instead as these blockages arise we should be aiding the fire in its work "through" the miasmas. For example if angst (choking in the narrows) is occurring in the throat, then toning, mantra, singing and humming greatly helps to relieve the pain and pressure. Clarifying one's truth and relationships should be done at this time. Writing poems from each of the charkas might help the flow of energy through the body. Meditation should be shifted from the third eye to the crown chakra. Gestalt and all forms of artistic expression will help the throat clear. Spontaneous music, drumming and dance are especially helpful in clearing the throat chakra. And as with any kundalini difficulty, the digestive system should be thoroughly cleansed whenever an obstinate symptom arises. A juice fast of moderate duration is an ideal first line of approach in dealing with any miasma that is up for us. Fasting will generally increase metamorphosis and speed evolution; but do not water fast during kundalini for the liver needs all the glutathione it can get. Tip #1 - Leaner Is Better What’s important to note is that I’m 6’3”, but only weight 200 lbs. So I give the ILLUSION of “looking” bigger because I’m lean and under 10% body fat. So, that’s the first secret - you have to get lean. When you’re lean, you’ll have more muscle separation, you’ll have more veins and thus, your muscles will “pop” more because they’re not hiding under a layer of fat. Tip #2 - Hydrate Normally I’m fuller than these pictures and more vascular as the day progresses because I’ve had a lot more water, electrolytes, carbohydrates, food and minerals. These pictures were taken first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach with very little water, so I was “flat”, rather than being “full”. This is one problem with people who are always on a low-carb diet (ketogenic, paleo, intermittent fasting, etc.) . They look flat and depleted, even when they are lean. Carbs help fill out your muscles because they hold 3x their weight in water. When your muscles are hydrated, you’ll look fuller, bigger and harder.. And your blood volume will also be higher and thus, you’ll be more vascular too. HOWEVER, I put Himalayan or Celtic salt in my water and on my food. This keeps me hydrated and that’s the secret. My workouts are a lot better too. I’m stronger and I get better pumps. However, REAL salt does the opposite - it retains the water in your muscles, not under the skin. Tip #3 - Improve Insulin Sensitivity The problem with having carbs is NOT higher blood sugar, but poor insulin sensitivity. In fact, the more muscle you have and the lower your body fat, the better your insulin sensitivity, the MORE carbs you can eat, the easier it is to gain muscle and lose fat. More salt and water will also help improve insulin sensitivity, so keep doing that. Better sleep, has lots of benefits, including better insulin sensitivity as well. Tip #4 - Specific Workouts How you exercise, what you do, how often all can make a huge difference in how you look. First, you need to lift heavier weights to create a more dense, harder looking muscle. Do sets at 6-8 reps to hit your fast-twitch muscles, as well as higher 10-15 reps. Both are needed. Secondly, exercising too much, too often, too long causes stress hormones such as cortisol and aldosterone to go up, while also DECREASING insulin sensitivity and testosterone levels. The end result not only will you start to lose muscle and also gain fat, but your muscles will be depleted, flat and “stringy” looking. This gives that “skinny/fat” look, rather than “lean/hard” look. So I suggest lifting weights for about 45 min, no more than an hour, 3-4x weekly or every-other-day. Tip #5 - Improve Your Hormones Because my background as a doctor is in endocrinology - the study of hormones, this is an area I’m most passionate about. This is why steroids work so well, not only in building muscle and losing fat, but making you look harder, fuller and more vascular. However, simply optimizing your own hormones naturally, will go a long way in making improvements in how you look, feel and perform.
