Fat Soluble Vitamins and Water Soluble Vitamins Steatorrhea, Deficiency Toxicity List Lipid

http://www.stomponstep1.com/fat-soluble-vitamins-and-water-soluble-vitamins-steatorrhea/ Fat Soluble Vitamins are hydrophobic (fat loving) nutrients that are necessary in small amounts to sustain a healthy life. Excess fat soluble vitamins can be stored in the liver and fat (adipose tissue). Therefore, these vitamins do not need to be eaten every single day as stores of the vitamins can sustain a person for some time. This is why a deficiency may take months to develop as the stores of the vitamin can take a long time to be depleted. This ability to store vitamins in tissue can also lead to vitamin toxicity. This toxicity is a vitamin overdose caused by taking a vitamin in excess. Since fat soluble vitamins can be stored in the body they can accumulate to the point of causing illness. Fat soluble vitamins are usually absorbed as part of chylomicrons (fat lobules) in the small intestine after being digested by pancreatic enzymes. Therefore, if fat absorption is inhibited the digestion of fat soluble vitamins will also be limited. This malabsorption can result in a deficiency of fat soluble vitamins as they are being excreted in the feces rather than being absorbed. This condition of excess fat excretion in feces is called Steatorrhea. It results in bulky, foul-smelling bowel movements with an oily appearance that float. Common causes of Steatorrhea on the USMLE Step 1: • Cystic Fibrosis (Thick mucus = decreased ability to secrete pancreatic enzymes) • Pancreatitis or Pancreatic Cancer (decreased ability to secrete pancreatic enzymes) • Celiac Disease & Crohn's Disease (damages portions of small intestine responsible for fat absorption) • Liver disease, biliary cirrhosis and sometimes gallstones (= less bile for fat absorption) Water Soluble Vitamins are hydrophilic (water loving) nutrients that are necessary in small amounts to sustain a healthy life. Unlike fat soluble vitamins they are generally not stored in body tissues. If you take in excess water soluble vitamins, your kidneys excretes most of the excess in urine. This is why some people say the US has the most expensive urine in the world. We spend so much on expensive vitamin supplements and much of it just ends up in the toilet. B12 and Folate are exceptions as they are water soluble vitamins that are stored in the liver. Excreting excess in the urine and not storing much in the body means that water soluble vitamins need to be consumed daily and that deficiencies can become apparent quickly. Also toxicity of water soluble vitamins is much less common than toxicity for fat soluble vitamins, because excess water soluble vitamins don't easily build up in the body. Patients with renal damage may reach toxicity of water soluble vitamins at much lower doses as their excretion of excess water soluble vitamins in impaired * Usually on Step 1 they will give you the vitamin letter/number and the name in parenthesis. They wouldn't usually give you one without the other, so perfectly memorizing both is not necessary. I would just learn the letter/number as that is easier. Here is a mnemonic to help remember which vitamins are fat soluble & which are water soluble. Now that you are done with this video you should check out the next video in the Vitamins section which covers Fat Soluble Vitamin Deficiencies (http://www.stomponstep1.com/fat-soluble-vitamins-hemorrhagic-disease-of-the-newborn/) Picture Used: Derivative of "At the beach - male abdominal obesity" by Tibor Végh available at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:At_the_beach_-_male_abdominal_obesity.JPG by Creative Commons 3.0 Attribution

Each organism has different vitamin requirements. For example, vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is necessary for humans but not for dogs, because dogs can produce (synthesize) enough for their own needs, while humans cannot. Vitamin C a magical pill-what happens when you take Vitamin C daily

Vitamin C a magical pill-what happens when you take Vitamin C daily Also known as ascorbic acid, vitamin C is a water - soluble vitamin that’s exceptionally easy to absorb and can be taken in quite high doses. It has a venerable history and was made famous in the 1980s when Dr. Linus Pauling (the only person to receive two Nobel prizes in a lifetime) pioneered its use for treating terminal cancer patients and preventing the common cold. By using doses of 20 grams or more a day (20,000 milligrams), he was able to keep terminal cancer patients alive for much longer than others with the same cancers who didn’t dose up on vitamin C. Those who have followed in Pauling’s footsteps have also shown how vitamin C can help prevent the occurrence of cardiovascular disease (heart attacks). Dr. John Ely, a brilliant researcher at the University of Washington, told me years ago: “ Ten grams of vitamin C on the fi rst day of a cold always works. After that it never works. ” I’ve found his words to be true, as have many of my patients. Vitamin C is vital for the proper functioning of our white blood cells, which fight off the invading bacteria and viruses that lead to colds and flu. Eating sugar and smoking cigarettes robs our bodies of this invaluable nutrient. So does breathing in toxic air in cities. It’s been estimated that one cigarette uses up as much as 200 milligrams of vitamin C. This might not sound like much, but the RDA for vitamin C is only 60 milligrams — the amount needed to keep us from developing scurvy! Vitamin C is also necessary for the functioning of the phase 1 enzymes in the liver, enhancing the clearance of toxins from the bloodstream; a deficiency of vitamin C leads to diminished clearance from the blood and greater toxic effects. Besides aiding in clearance, vitamin C helps increase the excretion of these compounds from the body. And along with vitamin E, vitamin C also protects us from the lung damage that ozone causes. So if you live in a city, especially if you’re a runner or a cyclist, you need to be taking vitamin C daily. I tell people that if they live in a city, they should take at least 3,000 milligrams of vitamin C a day. And if they’re smokers or are in traffic. In a word, vitamin C is indispensable. I’ve been taking 4,000 milligrams a day for the past twenty years. Vitamin C is also important for excretion and the production of bile acids, which are toxins ’ actual means of transport out of the liver. In a study of guinea pigs (the other mammals besides humans that don’t manufacture their own vitamin C), short - term vitamin C deficiency reduced the levels of vitamin C in the liver by 25 percent and led to a 50 percent reduction in both the amount produced and the effectiveness of the bile that was present. 12 WEEK TRANSFORMATION ➡ http://bit.ly/12weekwithryan Vitamin C (also known as ascorbic acid or L-ascorbate) is one of the most important micronutrients for a strong, fit body. This is true whether your goal is fat loss, lean muscle-building, strength gains, increased endurance, or boosting overall health. From hardcore athletes to the casual gym goer, everyone should be taking this important vitamin. As supplements go, vitamin C is one of the safest and most benefit-packed items to stock up on. The first and most obvious benefit of vitamin C is its healing and prophylactic properties. Vitamin C is effective not only in preventing sickness but also in helping your immune system rebound when you're feeling under the weather. Vitamin C acts as an antioxidant, blocking some of the damage caused by free radicals. Antioxidants like vitamin C also can help lessen the harm caused by pollutants and toxic chemicals, thereby reducing the risk of cancer and chronic disease. For bodybuilders and those looking to develop a strong, healthy physique, vitamin C is essential for growth and repair of all the tissues in the body. Vitamin C aids in protein metabolism; promotes the development of collagen, a protein used to make skin, scar tissue, tendons, ligaments, and blood vessels; and strengthens artery walls, which helps lower blood pressure. As if that wasn't enough, vitamin C also has certain sex-specific benefits. For men, taking vitamin C can help boost testosterone levels by reducing the amount of t-busting cortisol in the body. For women, taking vitamin C can also help regulate estrogen levels during menstruation. Ultimately, supplementing with vitamin C can't hurt and can only help. Because vitamin C is water-soluble, any excess amounts are excreted in the urine within 24 hours and overdosing is not an issue. The vast majority of active people simply are not consuming enough vitamin C in their diet, leaving a profound gap that can and should be filled with a quality vitamin C supplement like C-1000 Complex. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Follow me for FITNESS - DIETING - LIFESTYLE GENERAL INFO TO ADVANCED AESTHETICS CONNECT: SITE & STORY: https://ryanengelfitness.com Email: re.fitness.official@gmail.com Instagram: @ryan_engel_fitness Snapchat: replatinum http://instagram.com/ryan_engel_fitness/ FB: https://www.facebook.com/RyanEngelFit... Why Your Vitamin & Mineral Supplements May Be Useless.

https://atpscience.com/wholefood-vs-synthetic-vitamins/ https://www.webmd.com/vitamins-and-supplements/news/20131216/experts-dont-waste-your-money-on-multivitamins#1 https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/multivitamins-are-a-waste-of-money-doctors-say/ Synthetic Vitamins Man cannot duplicate what nature creates, even when the chemical analysis is identical. Most vitamin supplements are isolated chemical USP (United States Pharmacopeia) vitamins and minerals pressed together in a pill. The vitamins are produced synthetically from petroleum in chemical plants, while the minerals come from mining companies. Synthetic minerals are derived from rocks such as limestone, coral, oyster shell, sand, and chalk. Yum. Although these materials have mineral profiles, our bodies do not absorb them properly. Humans are not designed to digest rocks and oyster shells. Ideally, we should get all our minerals from plants. Plants absorb these minerals from soil and convert them to a form that is bioavailable to your body. However, because the soils are so deficient in minerals, even on organic farms, we need to take mineral supplements. It is best to take chelated minerals, which are minerals bound to amino acids, for maximum absorption. Many claim that synthetic vitamins suppress your immune system. Brian Clement, in his book, Supplements Exposed, claims that because of their synthetic nature, the body views synthetic supplements as foreign substances and launches an immune response. Foods and food-based supplements can cause immune system reactions as well. This is not necessarily a reason to avoid synthetic supplements and does not seem to harm your immune system in any meaningful way. For these reasons, I am in favor of using synthetic vitamins and recommend their use. Food-based vitamins are not always better absorbed. This is not the case with every person or every nutrient. We do absorb synthetic vitamins and minerals. Absorption depends upon many factors. When the body is presented with a synthetic isolate, it may need to draw on its stores of cofactors needed to absorb the vitamins, namely proteins, carbs, fats, bioflavonoids, enzymes, and other vitamins and minerals, but this is not always the case. While true at times, the body is very capable of absorbing a synthesized or isolated nutrient such as vitamin B or vitamin C, even if no other food components or cofactors are provided. If these cofactors are not available, a water-soluble isolate could be excreted and a fat-soluble isolate may be stored in fat, but for the most part the vitamin or mineral can be used. Due to this, the biological activity of synthetic vitamins can be reduced compared to their natural counterparts. The absorption issue is a stance many food-based supplements take as a reason to use their products, but this issue is really blown far out of proportion. Synthetics are absorbed quite well when taken with a meal. Many synthetic vitamins are poorly absorbed simply because they are bound together with cheap binders that don’t allow a release of the nutrients, not necessarily because the synthetic vitamins are themselves poorly absorbed. Truly health-conscious consumers choose to avoid artificial, unnatural and synthetic chemicals, but often — and unknowingly — consume these in dietary supplements. Misleading information on supplement labels is the most common reason for confusion about these ingredients. Consuming these potentially dangerous chemicals is much more serious than once thought. We should be concerned about taking synthetic vitamins and other unnatural nutrients because published research in the last few years concludes two important things: First, synthetic and other unnatural nutrients are mostly ineffective in preventing disease. Second, these chemicals may be dangerous to your health — some have been shown to increase the risk of death! Most of the studies show an increased incidence of cancer and heart disease, the reason for the increased risk.

Liver Function - What Does The Liver Do?

01:40
In this video I discuss what are the functions of the liver, and what does the liver do? The liver processes nutrients, the liver produces bile, and it takes part in many other important functions in the body. Transcript The liver is the largest internal organ in your body, and it has over 250 different functions. The liver produces bile, and bile is important because it breaks down fats into smaller droplets so it can be easily absorbed in the digestive tract. The liver processes nutrients. For instance, the liver converts glucose into glycogen. Glucose is the most common carbohydrate and the key source of energy for all cells in the body, and glycogen is a form of energy storage of glucose, in the body. Speaking of glucose, the liver regulates blood glucose levels, and high blood glucose levels can damage nerves and blood vessels or lead to type 2 diabetes. The liver is also the great detoxifier, for example, it detoxifies alcohol and converts some fat soluble toxins into a water soluble form which can then be eliminated in urine. The liver also acts as a storage container as it stores about 400 calories worth of energy in the form of glycogen, and it also stores iron, copper, vitamin b12, and all of the fat soluble vitamins a, d, e and k. The liver synthesizes blood clotting proteins, blood plasma proteins, and transport proteins that carry fats and fat soluble vitamins, just to name a few. It also produces several hormones and takes part in breaking down and eliminating excess hormones. The liver takes part in breaking down and recycling red blood cells. And I could go on and on and on, but I think you probably get the point that the liver has many important functions, thus making it an extremely important organ in your body.

The Truth Revealed: “All You Get From Taking Vitamin Supplements Is Expensive Urine”!

06:32
The Truth Revealed: “All You Get From Taking Vitamin Supplements Is Expensive Urine”! Ever heard this one before? “Your body doesn’t absorb extra vitamins. All you get from taking vitamin supplements is expensive urine.” Some people will tell you that any vitamin use higher than the lowly RDA is simply a “waste of cash.” Urine is what is left over after your kidneys purify your blood. If your urine contains, say, extra vitamin C, that vitamin C was in your blood. If the vitamin was in your blood, you absorbed it just fine. It is the lack of water-soluble vitamins in urine that means vitamin deficiency. If your body excretes vitamins in your urine, that is an indication that you are well-nourished and have nutrients to spare. That is good. Here’s another way to think of it: Standing at the base of the Hoover Dam looking up, you cannot tell how much water is behind it. Nevertheless, by observing the overflow spillway, you can tell. If the spillway is dry and dusty, loaded with tumbleweeds and foxes are making their dens, there has been a drought for some time, and the water level in the dam should be low. If water is pouring down the spillway, the dam must be full. “Waste” suggests fullness, just as an overflowing cup is clearly a full cup. Urine spillage of vitamins shows nutritional adequacy. A lack of water-soluble vitamins in the urine indicates insufficiency. “Expensive urine,” writes veteran nutritional reporter Jack Challem, is “a bizarre argument since a $50 restaurant meal and a bottle of fine wine also lead to expensive urine, but no one seems to be complaining about those things. Many studies have shown, however, that vitamin supplements do increase people’s blood levels of those nutrients.” Former faculty member at the University of Auckland Michael Colgan, PhD, measured just how much vitamin C is in fact used with increasing daily doses. He found that “Only a quarter of our subjects reached their vitamin C maximum at 1,500 mg a day. More than half needed over 2,500 mg a day to reach a level where their bodies might use no more. 4 subjects did not reach their maximum at 5,000 mg.” Undoubtedly, says one analyst, “Increasing vitamin C intake from 50 mg to 500 mg has the tendency to double serum vitamin C levels. Increasing consumption to 5,000 mg a day will double serum levels once again.” Time for a Second Opinion? Thomas Levy, MD, JD, a board-certified cardiologist, says “There’s a popular medical view that taking vitamin C just makes expensive urine. A few of it is lost in urine, but the more you consume, the more stays in your body.” William Kaufman, MD, a doctor with a PhD in nutritional biochemistry as well, said: “Those who think that you can get all the nourishment including minerals and vitamins you need to sustain optimal health throughout life from food alone can be very smug. They have the equivalent of an orthodox religious belief: “food is everything.” They do not need to concern themselves with the fact that the nutritional value of foods their patient eats, may be greatly inferior to the listed nutritional values given in food tables… The two-liner ‘We get all the vitamins we need in our diets. Taking supplements only gives you an expensive urine’ completely overlooks the benefits vitamin supplements can produce in our bodies before being excreted in our urine.” Expensive Breath? We all know that we breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide. We also breathe out oxygen, and rather a lot of it, too. Inhaled air is about 21% oxygen. We usually consume only about a quarter of that. So exhaled breath is approximately 15% oxygen. Exhaled out breath has enough oxygen for CPR to save lives. That also should indicate that scuba divers have “expensive breath.” For that matter, oxygen-tent patients from preemies to geriatric patients, and those getting surgical anesthesia all get even more oxygen than their bodies can actually use. We do not consider that a waste; we consider that a great idea. Abundance is not a bad thing. Expensive “Drug Urine”? “When it comes to really expensive urine,” says one editorial, “doctors fail to look at the cost of all those pharmaceuticals and chemotherapy drugs they’re pushing down the throats of patients. Those drugs are excreted through the urine, too, and when you add up the cost of those, just the financial cost, not even counting the expense in devastating adverse effects, they far exceed the cost of consuming healthy foods and taking supporting supplements.” Dr. Kaufmann adds: “During the early part of World War II, GI’s treated with penicillin had to save all their urine so that the penicillin which had actually been excreted in their urine could be recovered and after that used to treat other GI’s with life threatening wound infections. If one only considered the penicillin that was excreted in the urine

Vitamins - What are Vitamins - Types Of Vitamins - Fat Soluble Vitamins - Water Soluble Vitamins

02:41
In this video I discuss what are vitamins, what do vitamins do, and how many vitamins are there. I also discuss the different types of vitamins, water soluble vitamins and fat soluble vitamins. Transcript Intro Whats up dude, and whats up ladies? Bryan again, and in this video I am going to discuss vitamins. We are going to discuss what they are, how many of them there are, and the 2 different categories of vitamins, so, lets roll. So, what exactly are vitamins? Vitamins are non-caloric micronutrients that are needed in small amounts for normal body functions. The best way to consume vitamins is through a variety of nutrient-dense foods. Supplements can be used to treat certain health concerns but there is insufficient evidence of any nutritional benefit in healthy people. However if supplements are consumed choosing a whole food based vitamin may be a viable option. There are a total of 13 vitamins, which are divided into 2 categories, water- soluble which includes vitamin B’s and C; and fat -soluble vitamins A,D,E and K. Water-soluble vitamins cannot be stored in the body, except for B6 and B12, and are readily excreted if not used. Because water-soluble vitamins are not stored in the body, consistent daily intake is important to avoid deficiencies. Water –soluble vitamins are necessary for enzymes involved in metabolism, without water soluble vitamins the enzymes will not work. Unlike water-soluble vitamins, fat-soluble vitamins can be stored in the body for extended periods of time and later excreted. This storage usually occurs in the liver and adipose tissue.. The ability for the healthy body to store fat-soluble vitamins decreases the risk of deficiencies however, over consumption can lead to toxicity, also referred to as hypervitaminosis. When consuming our vitamins through foods, the risk of over consumption is extremely rare. The risk of toxicity usually occurs through high amounts of supplementation. Should I Take Vitamin and Mineral Supplements?

03:14
http://www.healthstandnutrition.com/should-i-take-vitamin-and-mineral-supplements/ The grocery stores, pharmacies and supplement stores are full of more supplements than ever before. But the question is do we need more vitamins and minerals and if so which ones? What are vitamins and minerals? Vitamins and minerals are micronutrients, which means that we need them in small amounts because they cannot be made in our bodies. Vitamins are organic or carbon-containing micronutrients that are made by living cells. Vitamins are further characterized as either fat-soluble or water-soluble vitamins. Fat-soluble vitamins can build up in body fat stores where as water-soluble vitamins are easily excreted by the body and do not build up in tissues. Minerals are inorganic elements that do not come from living sources, but from the earth’s crust, soil and water in which foods are grown. Do vitamins and minerals provide energy? Vitamins and minerals do not provide you with energy. However, they are still essential as they each have important functions within the body to keep all body systems functioning properly. You can think of vitamins and minerals like spark plugs for your car whereas carbohydrates, protein and fat are like the gasoline for your car. If you are feeling low in energy chances are the first thing you need to do is look at your every day food choices instead of popping extra vitamin supplements. http://www.healthstandnutrition.com/should-i-take-vitamin-and-mineral-supplements/

Liver Health: 4 Worst Damaging Habits- Thomas DeLauer

06:08
Liver Health: 4 Worst Damaging Habits- Thomas DeLauer… http://www.ThomasDeLauer.com for all your business, health, and fitness answers. The number one over the counter medication responsible for wrecking our livers is acetaminophen. Join Celebrity Trainer, Author & Organic Foods Expert, Thomas DeLauer to find out what other habits may be contributing to the health and function of our livers. Learn how the liver plays a big role in our metabolism, how we burn fat, how we get into shape, and detoxification. 1) Too much self-medication: One of the main functions of the liver is to break down substances that we take by mouth, including medications, herbs and supplements. This process usually takes place efficiently and without causing any harm. When new medications are developed, they are extensively tested to make sure they are safe before being approved for general use. Acetaminophen, when used as directed, is extremely safe even for people with liver disease. However, taking too much acetaminophen at once, or taking a high dose of acetaminophen continuously over several days can cause damage to the liver. How it Damages the Liver: A dose of Tylenol is absorbed by the gastrointestinal system and released into the bloodstream, where it alleviates pain and symptoms of fever. The liver filters the blood, which is responsible for metabolizing Tylenol into compounds that can be excreted by the body. About 90% is metabolized into harmless substances and excreted in the urine by the kidneys. Another 2% is removed without being metabolized. Between 5-10% is metabolized into a toxic compound called N-acetyl-p-benzoquinoeimine (NAPQI). Normally, the liver can safely remove NAPQI by combining it with gluthathione and converting it into a water-soluble product that is excreted in bile. However, after an overdose, the liver does not have enough gluthathione to combine with the NAPQI. Excess amounts of the toxic chemical cause rapid cell death, necrosis, tissue damage, and potentially deadly acute liver failure. (1,2,3) 2) Alcohol abuse: The liver can only handle a certain amount of alcohol at any given time, so if you drink more than the liver can deal with by drinking too quickly, or drinking too much, your liver cells struggle to process it. When alcohol reaches the liver, it produces a toxic enzyme called acetaldehyde, which can damage liver cells and cause permanent scarring. 3) Smoking: Though cigarette smoke does not directly come into contact with the liver, it does indirectly affect the liver. The chemicals in cigarette smoke eventually make their way to the liver. These chemicals cause oxidative stress on the liver, which leads to damage to the liver cells and fibrosis. Oxidative stress is involved in the aging of all the organs of the body. Oxidation produces free radicals that damage the cells of the body. 4) Lack of Sleep: If you want to keep your body — and particularly your liver – in good condition, it is important that you get enough sleep. During sleep, the body repairs and renews its cells, so lack of sleep will interfere with that. In turn, if the liver cannot repair and renew itself as you sleep, it can’t function properly when you’re awake. A study published in the Journal of Anatomy found that sleep deprivation can cause oxidative stress to the liver. It was found that livers weren’t processing fat efficiently and instead allowed fat to accumulate (which proves that the body cannot function well without a properly working liver) (8) References: 1) Acetaminophen and Liver Injury: Q & A for Consumers. Royalty free music licensed by www.stockmusic.net Hello everyone! Welcome to today's video... Oh crap! I forgot to take my vitamin. Every day I eat one D-vitamin. [Eats vitamin]. Yum! Doesn't taste like anything. Just like mom used to make. So welcome to today's video... Hang on? I just had a thought. Have you ever wondered how vitamins dissolve in the body? Hmm... Research time! So I'm back from research and I figured out how it works. Vitamins can be separated in two classifications. Water-soluble and lipid-soluble. Water-soluble vitamins are dissolved in your body then immediately excreted out. Lipid-soluble vitamins are dissolved in fat. The extra vitamins are then stored in your body. The vitamin I just took, vitamin D3 is a lipid-soluble vitamin. But that word, lipid, sounds interesting doesn't it. I think I may do a video on it. What's going on everybody! My name is Jack Jenkins and this is Academy of One. Today I am going to be talking about lipids. My introductions are getting more and more complex... But I love it! Lipids are a huge category of organic molecules that are composed of non-polar carbon and hydrogen bonds. As a quick refresh, the word organic means that the molecule has a carbon in it and the word non-polar means that the atom shares an even number of electrons. I repeat the definitions continually because you may forget what they mean... I forget all the time, it's human nature. Because lipids have a non-polar covalent bond they are hydrophobic and are insoluble in water. Lipids are very important to living organism. Lipids are commonly used for storing energy, signaling and forming water-proof coating on plants. Let's use an example of a lipid. Our heart-clogging friend cholesterol is a lipid. Cholesterol... Whose chemical structure is shown here, is composed of 27 carbon, 46 hydrogen and a single oxygen. Poor oxygen... Always the third wheel. Cholesterol is an important lipid because it aids in the synthesis of and vitamin D, the vitamin I took in the beginning of this video. You see, there is a method to this madness. Cholesterol fills the role of a lipid well. It has a non-polar carbon, and is hydrophobic, the two requirements for lipids. Lipids can be broken up into three different categories. First are the Fats, oils and waxes. Second category is phospholipids. Lastly there are the steroids. We will go into each category. Oils, fats and waxes may seem like three different categories but they are the same in many ways. First, they contain only carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. This makes oils, fats and waxes the simplest lipid category. Second, they contain fatty acid. A fatty acid is just a long chain of carbon and hydrogen with a coboxyl group. A carboxyl group is just one carbon, two oxygen and a hydrogen. Lastly, they usually do not have something called a cyclic compound. A cyclic compound is a compound whose atoms connect to form a ring. To quickly recap oils, fats and waxes contain only carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, contain fatty acids and aren't cyclic compounds. Fats and oils are used primarily to store every where waxes are used to create water proof coating. I'm done talking about wax, let's just talk more about fats and oils. Fats and oils are formed by the chemical synthesis dehydration. The synthesis consists of three fatty acids and a molecule of glycerol. Glycerol is a syrup liquid whose molecular structure is three carbon, eight hydrogen and three oxygen. When the synthesis occurs, the three fatty acids will drop the hydroxide group and the glycerol will lose a hydrogen. This causes the left over oxygen to form a bond with the carbon and greats the bond. This creates fats and oils. I also gives them their nickname, triglycerides. You probably heard that if you guys are into nutrition. Want to be into nutrition? Well we have a series coming out exclusively to prime members! Subscribe to Academy of One prime to see it!
