Super Foods for Diabetics Please note: I am not medically trained nor am I promoting any product. This video clip was created as part of an educational assignment and should be treated as such. Thank you to those who have watched it and have commented both positively and negatively. It is great to see people exchanging ideas, views and opinions. Thank you again. Hi again to all of you who have viewed and commented on my 'school' project. I appreciate your comments and concerns and once again want to clarify that i undertook this small project, researching reputable sites, and acknowledged that i am not medically trained. I can however say that many diabetics suffer their diabetes differently. My husband WAS a Type 2 Diabetic but due to calorie control, cutting back on high processed carbs/sugars and a little bit of walking has managed after 10 years to come off his insulin and is now classified by his specialist as a NON DIABETIC. Many of you are pushing alternative treatments, selling products etc that I do not and cannot recommend through this YouTube clip. Please respect each other's views and use this clip as a guide and not as gospel. Do some research of your own and take control of your health. All the best. Liz :)

By Jamie - Age 14 | For seven years of my life, I grew up in the foster system. I had to leave my mom’s house because of the decision to stop being there for her children. At the time, it was just me, an eight year old girl, and my brother, and an eleven year old severely autistic boy. One day the police showed up at our house. They asked me a lot of questions and then told us I would be staying at my aunt's house with her three kids, and my brother to a home for his needs. I stayed with my Aunt and cousins for a year and a half, until one day my Aunt told me to pack some clothes. I thought I was going to spend some time with my other Aunt and cousins, so happily I went and packed some clothes but, once I was done I went to the front room and my Aunt told me and my cousins I was going away for some time. I didn’t know what that meant but, we all cried, and my ??? showed up. My ??? didn’t tell me too much on our car ride there but, for most of the ride I cried. Once we got there, I was greeted by someone I would soon look up to as my sister, and by more people I would soon consider my family. I lived there for 2 and a half years. I wanted that to be my forever home, my forever family. But I found out my biological mom had another baby. He was only 5 months old and the state wanted us to be together forever. I moved in with him and his foster family. ??? threw up, cried, fussed, changed his diapers. I never thought I’d have a little brother, but there he was right before my eyes. I thought that was it for my foster placements but, I was wrong. Something didn’t work in that home and, we were moved after a year and a half of staying there. Now, we were with our very first white foster parent. A single mother, with three cute, but crazy kids. To say the least on that home, it didn’t work and, we left. On my last day of school, we were taken to our next foster home and, our last one thank you jesus. Another white family with four kids. A boy in the eleventh grade, a girl ???, another girl in the seventh grade, and another boy in like the fifth grade. And of course two parents, a mom and a dad and two lovely black dogs. Those people showed me and my brother so much love and care even after our hearts were broken by so many people at so many different times. I’ve never had a father figure in my life, so when I got to this one I didn’t really know how it felt to have a father at all. December 31, 2014, we were adopted by these people. Being here for two years now, I’ve received lots of love, and crazy rules and groundings. I’m blessed to have a place to finally call home Do you LOVE junk food? Tons of people do - especially when we're kids, it's everywhere. And so, getting addicted to sugar is easy. Do you kind of HATE healthy foods like vegetables and fruit? You're not alone. Jamie, up until a few years ago, ate nothing but junk food - all the time - chips, soda, candy, anything she could find that had lots and lots of sugar, or was fried, or processed, or just plain bad for you. It was all she craved. Even though her Mom told her not to eat all that junk food, and tried to get her to eat better healthier foods, she just ignored her and went on eating whatever she wanted. And this went on for a few years, until, Jamie started having trouble hearing. She didn't think much of it, but it got bad enough so that her Mom ended up taking her to the hospital. After the nurse tested her blood sugar - which Jamie hated since she hates blood and needles - she came back with bad news. Jamie had diabetes! It was a diagnosis she did not expect nor a disease she wanted. Her Mom was concerned, but Jamie was just totally confused - she had to learn all about it fast, AND, she had to take medicine - insulin - every single day. So, with a serious fear of needles and shots, Jamie found out that she had to give herself the shots, and monitor and test her blood sugar levels on her own. It was scary, and people would look at her when she had to do it and make her feel different and uncomfortable. But the hardest part of all was that she had to stop eating all of the junk food and sugar and start eating healthy foods. As a diabetic, She had to totally change her diet. And eventually, she got used to her new diet and at making healthier choices for eating and snacking. She even got used to the shots and is really living a normal life - but she does have to take care of herself a little more carefully than most kids her age and manage her diabetes. This is an important storytime to tell and to hear. Everyone's got a story....we want to hear yours! Get my prediabetes and diabetes type 2 management guide here https://goo.gl/YEZ3Pw Breakfast is, in my opinion, the most important meal of the day. I personally feel we don’t take the time we should to prepare and eat a good breakfast to get our day off on the right foot. I know, I know, TIME! So while I do not advocate you do this every day, I am going to give you 7 quick and easy breakfast recipes that will be good for your diabetes meal planning. Again, I do NOT advocate you eat these type breakfasts every day, but I do feel eating something is better than nothing at all. With that said, here are my 7 quick and easy breakfast ideas. Ty Mason TriFecta SuperFood Breakfast. My best tip for this video would be what I call a Ty Mason TriFecta SuperFood Breakfast. It is easy and combines 3 of my diabetes superfoods. It is so simple, you can make it in seconds or have it in the fridge ready to go if you are running really late. To a bowl of greek yogurt, add walnuts and strawberries. It is that simple. But what a power packed breakfast this is. You get everything you need to get a great start to your day and it will not affect your blood sugar a great deal at all. Some may put a little sucralose in the yogurt, it is a bit tangy, but many love it just as it is. Fruit Smoothie I know in my breakfast mistakes video I said breakfasts should not be in liquid form. But remember, this is an exception for those days that you must get out of the house quickly and I would rather you drink your breakfast than go out without anything at all. Plus, this has added convenience in that you can truly take this one with you and not have to worry a great deal about getting stains on your tie or dress. As you know, I am an advocate of keeping some type of frozen fruit in your freezer just in case you run out of fresh fruit. To me, fresh fruit should be included in any meal if at all possible. Well, this is a fresh fruit breakfast. It really doesn’t matter what you add to this smoothie as long as it is fruit. I personally like the frozen fruit for a smoothie because it stays colder longer and remains a little thicker. Combine in a blender 3 or 4 ice cubes, one cup of greek yogurt (or 2% milk) a half cup of frozen fruit (strawberries, blueberries, peaches, etc) and a handful of nuts (walnuts, almonds, etc). Blend until smooth and you have a delicious breakfast ready to drink on the way to work. EGGS AND BACON I know, I said quick and easy. Hey, this one really is quick and easy. At almost any grocery store these days you can buy bacon that is already cooked. It is not that bad at all actually. You throw it in the microwave for about 10 seconds per slice (read your package directions) and voila! You have bacon. As for the eggs, boil a few up and keep them in the fridge. They truly are a great snack for any time, but for a quick breakfast you can’t beat it. Throw some bread in the toaster, have the coffee brewing and you have breakfast in just a minute or 2. If you have to eat it on the go, slice the egg in thin sliced, but it on the toast with the bacon and eat it as a sandwich on your way to work. It really is a great breakfast. If you are going to have it as a sandwich, take 30 extra seconds and add a slice of cheese to it and stick in the microwave to melt the cheese and heat up the egg. YUMMY! FRUIT BOWL Easiest breakfast ever. Cut some fruit up the night before if you know you are going to sleep in! Add some strawberries, blueberries, peaches, watermelon, apples, pears, whatever fruit you like. Leave this in a bowl overnight and those juices will mingle and marinate that fruit, I get hungry just thinking about it. FRUIT AND WAFFLE Yes, you read that right. WAFFLE! Look, the GL of an Aunt Jemima frozen waffle is 10. That is a low GL food. I know, the GI is high, but I am a strong proponent of the GL of a food. It tells you exactly how a food is going to affect your blood sugar and a GL of 10 is low. Here is my favorite way to eat a waffle. Of course, toast the waffle. DUH! But in a saucepan, add some fruit, whatever you like with a little splash of orange juice and a couple tablespoons of sucralose. Bring that up to a boil, then simmer for a just a couple of minutes. You won’t believe how good that is over the waffle. Add a glass of milk and you think you will be heading off to school than to work. Childhood memories! OATS (OATMEAL) This is an amazing breakfast, especially on those cold mornings. You can get instant oatmeal if you’d like, but very careful of the ingredients. Many instant oatmeals have lots of sugar. You can make your own oatmeal by using minute oats and adding whatever you like to it. Cook up some oats, add in sucralose, milk, a sliced up apple and cinnamon, that is good stuff. Add fruit or whatever you’d like. It’s quick, easy and actually very good for you! COTTAGE CHEESE AND FRUIT

According to the American Diabetes Association Diabetes is a metabolic disorder in which a person suffers from a high level of glucose in the blood. High blood sugar levels are caused either by a lack of insulin production (Type 1 diabetes) or insulin resistance in the body (Type 2 diabetes). When suffering from diabetes, it is important to keep blood sugar levels under control or else it can affect different parts and organs of the body, from your eyes to your toes. Diet plays a significant role in managing the disease. There are some foods that can help lower the risk of diabetes and help with blood sugar management. On the other hand, certain foods can exacerbate the symptoms and medical complications. Here are the 10 worst foods for diabetics as well as people who are at risk of developing diabetes. 1. White Bread. White bread is a staple in many breakfast menus. It may be quick and convenient to have a slice or two of white bread with some jam or butter before leaving the house. But for diabetics, white bread is not a good option. 2. Sugar-Loaded Breakfast Cereals. When you’re running late in the morning, you may not have time to eat anything but a quick bowl of cereal. But many types of breakfast cereal are loaded with fast-digesting carbohydrates and sugar, making them high on the glycemic index (GI). When you eat such cereal, your body quickly breaks it down, which rapidly raises your blood sugar level. Also, such cereals have few nutrients and lots of empty calories. 3. Fatty Meats. Fatty or marbled cuts of meat are not good for people with diabetes or those at risk of the disease. In addition, fatty meats have a hefty amount of saturated fat, which initiates inflammation in the body and leads to various side effects. Saturated fat raises blood cholesterol levels, which in turn increases the risk for heart disease. Diabetic people are already at an increased risk of heart disease. Eating high-fat meats compounds that risk. 4. Soda. Sweetened sodas are hugely popular throughout America, but it is a bad beverage choice for diabetics due to the high sugar and calorie content. Sugary drinks also contribute to an increased risk for Type 2 diabetes, heart disease and other chronic conditions. 5. Canned Fruit Juice. Canned fruit juice may be a convenient way of ensuring regular fruit intake, but it is not good for diabetics or people at risk of the disease. According to nutrition and health experts, canned fruit juices lack nutritional value. In addition, many are loaded with sugar and artificial sweeteners that can cause a dramatic spike in blood sugar levels as well as contribute to weight gain. Both these factors can worsen diabetes complications. 6. White Rice. White rice is a staple in diets in Asian countries and very popular elsewhere in the world. But due to being highly processed, white rice can cause blood sugar spikes similar to that of sugar. White rice has a high GI score and lacks nutrients like fiber and magnesium. The more white rice you eat, the greater your risk of Type 2 diabetes and the harder it is to control your blood sugar level. 7. Potatoes and French Fries. Consuming potatoes whether baked, boiled, mashed or as French fries – on a regular basis is harmful for people who have diabetes. This is because the starch in potatoes is made of long strings of glucose that breaks down rapidly in the intestine. As the starch is absorbed into the bloodstream, it leads to a sudden spike in blood glucose levels. 8. Pancakes or Waffles with Syrup. Though easy to make and tasty to eat, pancakes are another food that people with diabetes or at a higher risk for it should avoid. TOP 7 WORST FOODS FOR DIABETES 1 Trail mix Store-bought trail mix is a blend of nuts, dried fruit, and milk chocolate. Only the nuts are a safe bet for diabetics (and in moderation; they can be high in calories). The dehydration process causes fruits’ natural sugars to become super concentrated. "Plus, the portion sizes are big, especially when you consider a single dried apricot represents a whole apricot," said Doria-Medina. "It’s easy to eat too much." Have this instead: Make your own low-carb mix with sunflower seeds, walnuts, soy nuts, roasted peanuts, and almonds with small amounts of unsweetened coconut. Eating nuts in moderation (one ounce per serving) may reduce the rise in blood glucose when consumed along with carbohydrates such as bread, and they are also linked to a lower risk of heart disease; 2 Bacon We know fried foods are bad for us, but for people with diabetes, they are the worst. The fat is absorbed into the food and leads to high cholesterol and weight gain. Fried foods cause diabetes and fried foods make diabetes worse. This goes for everything from French fries to fried chicken; 3 Sweetened cereals These are high in carbohydrates because of the added sugar. Go for the plain cereals and add a little fruit or artificial sweetener; 4 Fruit juices Unsweetened fruit juice contains at least as much sugar as sodas do and even unsweetened 100% fruit juice or those with added sugar. Its high fructose content can worsen insulin resistance, promote weight gain, obesity and increase the risk of heart disease. Drinking water is a better option; 5 French fries Deep-frying foods has been shown to produce high amounts of toxic compounds like AGEs and aldehydes, which may promote inflammation and increase the risk of disease. Indeed, several studies have linked frequently consuming french fries and other fried foods to heart disease and cancer. If you don't want to avoid potatoes altogether, eating a small amount of sweet potatoes is your best option.; 6 Pancakes and syrup It’s very high in carbohydrates. Light or low-calorie syrup usually contains at least half the carbs of regular. And with these lighter syrups, remember that the serving size is small, and generally only one Take a look at the food label and use sparingly; 7 White rice The more white rice you eat, the greater your risk of type 2 diabetes, according to a 2012 review. In a study of more than 350,000 people, those who ate the most white rice were at greatest risk for type 2 diabetes, and the risk increased 11 percent for each additional daily serving of rice. Basically anything highly processed, fried, and made with white flour should be avoided. White rice and pasta can cause blood sugar spikes similar to that of sugar. Have this instead: Brown rice or wild rice. These whole grains don't cause the same blood sugar spikes thanks to fiber, which helps slow the rush of glucose into the bloodstream, Andrews said. What's more, a Harvard School of Public Health study found that two or more weekly servings of brown rice was linked to a lower diabetes risk

Top 10 Worst Foods for Diabetes 1. White Bread White bread is a staple in many breakfast menus. It may be quick and convenient to have a slice or two of white bread with some jam or butter before leaving the house. But for diabetics, white bread is not a good option. White bread is made of refined flour, which lacks fiber and nutrients. In fact, white bread is considered a bad carbohydrate food, which means it has empty calories and is absorbed quickly by the body. Any food that gets absorbed quickly triggers a release of insulin, which affects blood sugar. 2. Sugar-Loaded Breakfast Cereals When you’re running late in the morning, you may not have time to eat anything but a quick bowl of cereal. But many types of breakfast cereal are loaded with fast-digesting carbohydrates and sugar, making them high on the glycemic index (GI). Fatty Meats Fatty or marbled cuts of meat are not good for people with diabetes or those at risk of the disease. A 2014 study published in Nutrients reports that meat consumption is consistently associated with Type 2 diabetes risk. Meat consumption is easily modifiable and has potential benefits of doing so, especially in people who are at a higher risk of diabetes. In addition, fatty meats have a hefty amount of saturated fat, which initiates inflammation in the body and leads to various side effects. Saturated fat raises blood cholesterol levels, which in turn increases the risk for heart disease. Diabetic people are already at an increased risk of heart disease. Sugary drinks also contribute to an increased risk for Type 2 diabetes, heart disease and other chronic conditions. A 2010 study published in Diabetes Care reports that in addition to weight gain, higher consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages is associated with development of metabolic syndrome and Type 2 diabetes. People who regularly consume just one to two servings of these sugary beverages a day have a 26 percent greater risk for Type 2 diabetes than people who rarely have such drinks. 5. Canned Fruit Juice Canned fruit juice may be a convenient way of ensuring regular fruit intake, but it is not good for diabetics or people at risk of the disease. According to nutrition and health experts, canned fruit juices lack nutritional value. Not only are pancakes and waffles usually made with refined white flour, they are often topped with butter and a whole lot of sugary syrup, which is usually just high-fructose corn syrup. Both butter and sugary syrup can lead to a spike in blood sugar levels. 9. Sugary Fruits Fruits are generally a healthy option for everyone. Most fruits are healthy for diabetics as well but not the ones that are high in sugar content. Fruits like fully ripe banana, melon, mango, and sapodilla (chikoo) contain more sugar than their counterparts. Eating them can raise your sugar level in the blood which is why it is a risky option for you. 10. Flavored Coffee A normal cup of black coffee with no sugar is perfectly fine for a prediabetic. The problem arises when you go to your local coffee shop and order that large sized Frappucino or white Chocolate Mocha or any other beverage of the sort. Best #foods for #diabetics | Special Recipe Reverses #Diabetes in 30 Days 😋 ➡➡➡➡➡➡➡➡➡➡➡ http://veddabloodsugarprotocol.com/shm/advrt/1/?aff_id=61784&subid=diabetescure This secret tribal ‘trick’ has since allowed my wife to #quickly and #naturally lower her high blood sugar, transform her cardiovascular health, shed a whopping 35 pounds, and then reverse her #diabetes…In just 33 days. This ground-breaking discovery, which has shocked the mainstream medical establishment and angered Big Pharma, is something that neither you nor your doctor will have heard about before. In fact, I’m here to tell you that everything you thought you knew about diabetes, and how to control your blood sugar levels, is flat-out WRONG. In the next 3 minutes, I’m going to show you hard, scientific proof from research carried out at Thames Valley University in Brentford, England, and published in the Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism Journal, which proves beyond all doubt that your high blood sugar can be lowered, and your diabetes completely reversed 100% naturally, safely and in less than a month… … Without the need for any prescription meds… … Without any painful and inconvenient insulin shots… … And without any boring, restrictive diets that make meal times seem like a chore, rather than an event to enjoy. But best of all, you can do this from the comfort of your own home, using simple and inexpensive ingredients picked up at your local grocery store. This simple home-based remedy can be used successfully by anyone, whether you’re suffering from type 2 diabetes, or even pre-diabetes… … Whether your blood sugar readings are just above normal, or completely off the charts… … Whether you’ve been diabetic for 10 minutes or 10 years. … And if you’re 19 or 90 years old. Today, I’m offering you the chance to become free of your diabetes… To never again have to worry about becoming a burden to your family, financially, physically, or emotionally… And to feel healthier, happier and more energetic than you have in years, or possibly even decades. Sure, it may sound like a dream, but I promise you, all of this can be a reality within the next 30 days. But before I reveal the simple little tribal ‘trick’ that will get you there, it’s very important that you watch this presentation until the end, because there’s no guarantee that it will still be here tomorrow, or even in a few hours from now. And that’s because the pharmaceutical companies behind the World’s leading type 2 diabetes drugs are doing everything in their power to have this presentation shut down in order to protect their multi-billion dollar cash cow… … The very same cash cow that has been deliberately designed NOT to cure you of your #diabetes, but to keep you as a customer for life. The last thing they want is for you to see what I’m about to show you. But more and more, the food industry is coming out with better and better options around low carb breads. 1. Joseph's High Fiber Plus Pita Bread Pockets These are 22 grams of total carbohydrates with 9 grams of dietary fiber, which brings you to a total of 13 grams of carbohydrates that will actually be digested and broken down into glucose! 2. Ezekiel Flax Sprouted Whole Grain Bread This bread is packed with goodness, and will definitely give you far more than the average slice of overly processed white bread or whole wheat bread. With 14 total carbohydrates per slice, and 4 grams of fiber, you'll get 100 grams of calories per slice. 3. Udi's Gluten-Free Millet-Chia Bread Usually gluten free bread is twice as "carby" as normal breads. Two slices of Udi’s white sandwich bread only has 24 grams of carbohydrates and 5 grams of fiber, which leaves you with 19 grams of carbohydrates for 2 slices. 4. BFree Food's Gluten-Free Sandwich Bread This bread isn't as thick and fluffy as normal sandwich bread… instead it's thinner, a bit more airy and very flavorful. You can get it in Brown Seeded or Soft White variations. It's not the lowest carb of all the breads here by any means, with 8 grams of carbs after subtracting the fiber, but for a gluten-free option, it's pretty darn good! 16 grams of carbs in a gluten-free sandwich. 5. Sara Lee 45 Calories & Delightful 100% Multi-Grain While this choice is probably the lowest in terms of quality nutrition and ingredients, it is the lowest in calories and probably the most similar to your average piece of traditional toast. 2 slices will give you 18 total grams of carbohydrate and 5 grams of fiber, leaving you with 13 grams total. 6. Great Low-Carb Bread Company Delicious! Soft and flavorful! These breads are super low carb with barely 1-3 grams of carbohydrate after subtracting the dietary fiber… even in the bagels! Hamburger buns, white bread, pumpernickle, a variety of bagels, and more. 7. ThinSlim Breads This company comes with a variety of flavors (including cinnamon, rye, and honey) and boasts a mere 1 gram of carbohydrate (and 50 calories) per slice in basically every sliced bread option. They also have a variety of other low-carb products besides just straight breads, like cookies, muffins, pizzas, and more! 1. You're taking a sulfonylurea and you skip meals Sulfonylureas such as glimepiride (Amaryl), glyburide (DiaBeta; Micronase), glipizide (Glucotrol) prompt your pancreas to produce the blood sugar-lowering hormone insulin all day long, which helps you control diabetes. But if you skip meals, this could lead to uncomfortable or even dangerously low blood sugar. The effect may be most pronounced with glyburides, but can happen with any sulfonylurea. It's smart to know the signs of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), such as dizziness, hunger and feeling shaky, so you can take prompt action like taking a glucose tablet, eating hard candy or sipping a small glass of juice. 2. You skip doses or stop your meds completely More than 30 % of people with type 2 diabetes don't take blood sugar-lowering drugs the way their doctor prescribed them. And up to 20% stop completely. Some people are bothered by side effects, others think it's OK to cut back or quit once their blood sugar levels improve. Diabetes meds don't cure diabetes; you have to take them as prescribed to get results. 3. You overeat to counteract or avoid low blood sugar Sulfonylureas often cause weight gain, in part because people who use them may eat more food to ward off the unpleasant symptoms of low blood sugar. Talk with your doctor if you notice that you're eating more, gaining pounds or frequently feel dizzy, shaky or hungry between meals. Drugs called meglitinides that also control blood sugar by increasing insulin levels, such as nateglinide (Starlix) and repaglinide (Prandin) cause less weight gain than sulfonylureas. 4. You don't take metformin with a meal The widely-used diabetes drug metformin lowers blood sugar levels by reducing the amount of carbohydrates your body absorbs from the food you eat. But for many people it also causes stomach pain, indigestion, bloating, gas and diarrhea or constipation. Taking your dose with a meal can reduce discomfort. So does working with your doctor to gradually increase your dose. Another plus: The medication's unpleasant side effects appear to lessen the longer you take the metformin. 5. You don't tell your doc that your meds cost too much Up to 30% of people with diabetes don't take their medications as directed for another reason: They're too expensive, University of Chicago researchers note in a 2014 report in the World Journal of Diabetes. The good news: Older, cheaper drugs can be just as effective as newer, pricier types, according to a 2007 analysis by the group Consumers Union.

What is the best thing to eat before bed? Do you gain weight if you eat before bed? How long should you wait to go to sleep after eating? Six Snacks You Can Eat Before Bed to Cure Diabetes DIABETES treatment includes controlling your diet to avoid blood sugar levels spiking, which can cause damage to your body. A 2003 study published in "Diabetes Care" investigated the impact of snack composition on nightly blood sugars in adults with Type 1 diabetes. The researchers concluded that bedtime snacks consisting of a carbohydrate and protein worked best in preventing low blood sugars when the bedtime blood sugar was less than 126 mg/dL. But the wrong kind of snack can actually make things worse. Instead of high-carb fare like chips, “aim for a bedtime snack of protein plus carbohydrate. Cereal and Milk Most bedtime snacks contain about 15 to 30 g of carbohydrate, or two servings of a carbohydrate-containing food, and a serving of protein. It is not quite understood why protein helps to prevent nightly hypoglycemia, according to the authors of the "Diabetes Care" study, it is believed to be related to the way protein is metabolized. Cereal and milk provides both carbohydrate and protein. A good bedtime snack consists of 3/4-cup serving of whole-grain cereal and 1-cup of low-fat milk. During cold months, you can try 1/2 cup of hot cereal with 2 tbsp. of raisins and 1 cup of skim milk as a cereal bedtime snack. Crackers and Peanut Butter Crackers provide the carbohydrate and peanut butter provides the protein. Spread 12 whole-grain crackers with 3 tsp of peanut butter or you can also try six whole-grain crackers with 3 tsp of peanut butter and 1-cup of skim milk. Each of these snacks contains 30 g of carbohydrate. Sandwiches Sandwiches also make a good bedtime snack for diabetics. Choose lean sources of meat to decrease your intake of saturated fat. Too much saturated fat in the diet increases blood cholesterol levels, another risk factor for heart disease. Bedtime sandwich ideas include two slices of whole wheat bread with 1 oz. of turkey, 1 oz. of low-fat cheese or 1 oz. of canned tuna. For a lighter snack, you can also try half of a sandwich with a piece of fresh fruit or a 2/3-cup serving of nonfat sugar-free fruited yogurt. A toasted cheese sandwich with two slices of toasted bread and one slice of low-fat cheese also makes a healthy bedtime snack. Other Protein and Carbohydrate Combinations Other protein and carbohydrate snack combinations include 2/3 cup of nonfat sugar-free fruited yogurt with cracker squares, 1 oz. of low-fat cheese with a large pear, 4 tbsp. of hummus with 1/4 cup of nonfat cottage cheese with a large banana And Also Follow Us On Facebook : https://goo.gl/7Jws9o Blogger: https://goo.gl/StU7lW Play List : https://goo.gl/9VsAEq Twitter : https://goo.gl/4OcKoW Thanks For Watching This Video Like and Subscribe ========================================== DISCLAIMER: The information provided on this channel and its videos is for general purposes only and should not be considered as professional advice. The REAL “secret” for long-term fat loss & why 93% of diet and exercise programs fail: 👉 http://drsam.co/yt/Weight-Loss-Secret Or watch #1 weight loss myth here: 👉 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijvC_i9iUEs&t=0s&list=PLkoAH5env5qUq4XUgpgPoS14LBS1yUuxJ&index=3 Refferences: 1. European Society of Endocrinology. "Could intermittent fasting diets increase diabetes risk? Fasting every other day to lose weight impairs the action of sugar-regulating hormone, insulin, which may increase diabetes risk." ScienceDaily. ScienceDaily, 20 May 2018. 2. Kara L. Kliewer, et al. Short-term food restriction followed by controlled refeeding promotes gorging behavior, enhances fat deposition, and diminishes insulin sensitivity in mice. The Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry, 2015. ======================================= 🍽️ Intermittent Fasting - Lose Weight, Get Fat & Become Diabetic 2 ======================================= It’s interesting how people are really excited about NOT eating these days. There are so many books and courses about “Intermittent Fasting” and the different variations of it. If you’re new to Intermittent Fasting (IF), the basic summary of this diet is you do NOT eat most of the day and then you eat all of your calories (and meals) during a 4-8 hour window. For example, you’re “fasting” all day and then between 8 pm to midnight, you eat all of your meals and calories. Some of the “less strict” variations give you an 8 hour window and thus, maybe from 4 pm to midnight. BUT, the true intermittent fasting is only about 4 hours. Basically, you’re eating one massive, ongoing meal. And the promoters of Intermittent Fasting (IF) say that the benefits are fat loss, more muscle (if you’re exercising), improved insulin sensitivity, less inflammation and more so, you get to “eat your favorite foods” and not get fat. That’s the “marketing sales pitch” Yes, the short-term effects are good for some people, especially weight loss and for those that don’t exercise. But the long-term effects is actually the OPPOSITE. Now, in a minute I’ll tell the only REAL benefit of Intermittent fasting and what type of person should follow it and for how long. However, let’s first discuss the negatives based on the newest scientific research. Lose Weight - But Get FATTER & Become Diabetic?!! So a recent study in 2018 revealed that1: The subjects lost weight, but ironically gained abdominal fat, what some doctors call "central adiposity". The cells of the pancreas that release insulin showed signs of damage (which can lead to diabetes). Markers of insulin resistance were detected (which can lead to diabetes). Increased levels of cancer-causing free radicals were observed. Researcher Ana Bonassa noted, "This is the first study to show that, despite weight loss, intermittent fasting diets may actually damage the pancreas and affect insulin function in normal healthy individuals, which could lead to diabetes and serious health issues." Accelerated Aging & Eating Disorders In another study2 done in 2015, showed that these popular fasting plans may have some serious drawbacks, especially for those that have adopted them as a "lifestyle" rather than as a temporary, short-term strategy. (Although previous studies show a boost in age-accelerating free radicals even during short-term fasts.) In the first study, the common Intermittent Fasting approach was tested: eating only during a 4-hour window in a day. In this study, the subjects didn't lose weight, but did... Gain intra-abdominal fat Develop disordered-eating behaviors (binge eating) Develop insulin resistance in their livers Show signs of inflammation Display a "gene expression profile favoring lipid deposition." That means their genes started "preferring" to store more fat, especially in the belly. ======================================== Thank you for watching. Can eating habits cause diabetes? Well, that is a question researchers seem to be debating. But the consensus is that yes, it can cause diabetes. Diabetes Diet eBook: https://goo.gl/qVpcQK Now, not everyone who has diabetes has it because of their eating habits, some people are predisposed to diabetes and no matter what or how they eat they are going to have it. But for others, what you eat can possibly lead to Type 2 diabetes. One possible contributing factor to Type 2 diabetes is our society’s hurried pace. This has led us to rely a great deal on fast foods. I was able to find several studies to say that fast-food consumption can further the development of type-2 diabetes. A 2013 study published in the "European Journal of Nutrition" set out to clarify the role of dietary patterns in the onset of type-2 diabetes in overweight people. The study found that diets high in soft drinks and french fries, and low in fruit and vegetables, were associated with a greater risk of type-2 diabetes in overweight participants, particularly among those who are less physically active. A 2005 study published in "Lancet" concluded that fast-food consumption has a strong positive correlation with weight gain and insulin resistance, implying that fast-food intake may promote obesity and type-2 diabetes. A 2013 review published in "Current Opinion in Clinical Nutrition and Metabolic Care" notes that high-sugar diets not only promote weight gain but insulin resistance, which leads to a predisposition for type-2 diabetes. In addition, the review notes that having type-2 diabetes significantly increases the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease. The researchers concluded that dietary modifications can greatly reduce the risk of both type-2 diabetes and Alzheimer's disease. A 2001 study published in "Diabetologia" notes that it may be more important to focus on the quality of the fats and carbohydrates consumed, rather than the amount alone, to prevent type-2 diabetes. High intakes of trans fatty acids, saturated fats, refined carbohydrates and other processed foods increase the risk for type-2 diabetes, whereas whole grains, polyunsaturated fats, fiber-rich foods, omega-3 fatty acids and other minimally processed foods can lower your risk. Poor diet can be categorized by more than simply eating unhealthy foods. Breakfast is an important meal that, when missed, can result in health consequences. A 2012 a study published in the "American Journal of Clinical Nutrition" found that skipping breakfast increased the risk for type-2 diabetes, even after adjusting for body mass index. Snacking between meals was also found to increase type-2 diabetes risk. Our “highly civilized” society has also taken away much of the nutrition from many foods. We have taken the bran out of the flour, we eat mostly refined sugar and processed foods. This has certainly contributed to an obese society and one with a high population of diabetes. Many a renowned researcher holds the belief that a deficiency of vitamin B6(pyridoxine) in our diet may also be a cause of diabetes. Lack of Vitamin B causes the transformation of tryptophane (an amino-acid present in our diet) into xanthurenic acid which harms the beta cells of the pancreas to cause diabetes. Some researchers believe that diabetes arises not because of inheriting defective chromosome but because of genetically determined excessive requirement of vitamin B6 Of course, further research and investigations are called for to validate this belief. Diabetes due to unhealthy eating habits is becoming a common crisis among urban dwellers. With multinational companies promoting ready-to-eat processed food and their range of fast food range, people are getting addicted to a lifestyle that is prone to high risk of diabetes. The most troubling phenomena of this trend are youngsters, in some cases children, becoming obese. Obesity is a major health hazard that leads to diabetes and other chronic heart diseases that plague people with unhealthy eating habits. It has been established that the onset of diabetes can be prevented if our food habits are corrected. Unhealthy snacking. No matter how healthy you eat, there will be some sort of craving for snacks. During such times, snacking on artificially sweetened snacks, deep fried snacks, instead of snacks like fruits result in diabetic risk. Carbonated and sugary drinks Carbonated and caffeinated drinks that are popularly consumed during snacks and meals is a highly unhealthy habit that causes serious health risks such as obesity and puts you in direct risk of diabetes. Ignoring fruits and vegetables Fruits and vegetables are rich source of nutrients and fibers that help your body in both sugar control and proper digestion. Ignoring them causes imbalanced sugar levels in your body risking diabetes. Snacking in odd hours Snacking on healthy foods is a good habit.

According to the American Diabetes Association (ADA): • In 2012, 29.1 million Americans, or 9.3 percent of the population, had diabetes. Of that, 21.0 million were diagnosed and 8.1 million were undiagnosed. • Approximately 1.25 million American children and adults had Type 1 diabetes in 2012. • Diabetes was the 7th leading cause of death in the United States as of 2010. These statistics may be scary, and the numbers may get even worse in the coming years. Diabetes is a metabolic disorder in which a person suffers from a high level of glucose in the blood. Here are the 6 worst foods for diabetics as well as people who are at risk of developing diabetes. 1. White Bread White bread is a staple in many breakfast menus. It may be quick and convenient to have a slice or two of white bread with some jam or butter before leaving the house. But for diabetics, white bread is not a good option. 2. Sugar-Loaded Breakfast Cereals When you’re running late in the morning, you may not have time to eat anything but a quick bowl of cereal. But many types of breakfast cereal are loaded with fast-digesting carbohydrates and sugar, making them high on the glycemic index (GI). When you eat such cereal, your body quickly breaks it down, which rapidly raises your blood sugar level. 3. 4. Soda Sweetened sodas are hugely popular throughout America, but it is a bad beverage choice for diabetics due to the high sugar and calorie content. Sugary drinks also contribute to an increased risk for Type 2 diabetes, heart disease and other chronic conditions. 5. Canned Fruit Juice Canned fruit juice may be a convenient way of ensuring regular fruit intake, but it is not good for diabetics or people at risk of the disease. According to nutrition and health experts, canned fruit juices lack nutritional value. In addition, many are loaded with sugar and artificial sweeteners that can cause a dramatic spike in blood sugar levels as well as contribute to weight gain. Both these factors can worsen diabetes complications. 6. White Rice White rice is a staple in diets in Asian countries and very popular elsewhere in the world.

Is Vermicelli Good or Bad For Diabetes Download Diabetes Management Book: http://bit.ly/2g0NDAH Hello, I'm Ty Mason from TheDiabetesCouncil.com, researcher, writer and I have type 2 diabetes. Today I'm going to answer the question, is vermicelli good for diabetes. But before we get into that, make sure you download my free diabetes management book which also includes a diabetes grocery shopping guide (foods to eat and avoid). When I tell you what vermicelli means in Italian, you might rethink whether or not you will eat it. Are you ready? It means, “little worms.” Depending on where you live, vermicelli is either slightly bigger or slightly smaller than its cousin, spaghetti. In Italy, its bigger, in the United States, it’s smaller. Both fall into the long pasta category. Let’s be exactly sure what we are talking about before we go into whether or not vermicelli is good for diabetes. There is a Chinese product called rice vermicelli. These long, thin noodles are sometimes referred to as rice noodles. We may cover that another time, but today we are discussing the pasta. Also, we must understand that when talking about pastas, the names are just the shape of the pasta not a different type of recipe. There are over 350 types of pasta but for the most part they all contain the basic core recipe. But is vermicelli good for those with diabetes? Well, once again we must visit our old enemy the carbohydrate. And we must look at the GI and GL. Of course, vermicelli is thought to be better for your diet because it is thinner. Well, you know as well as I do, if something is smaller, we just eat more of it to make up the space on our plate. The GI of vermicelli is lower than that of some pasta at 35, which is on the low side. The GL of vermicelli however is 17 which falls into the moderate range. So this would mean pasta would be a good choice, but in moderation. Is vermicelli good for diabetes? Well, it all comes down to portion and the sauce you choose to eat it with. A heavy cream sauce like alfredo would not be good. But a light tomato based sauce would be good in moderation. Moderation is the key to most foods consumed by anyone, not just those with diabetes. I hope this answered your question is vermicelli good or bad for diabetes. Don’t forget to get your diabetes management book. Let me know if you have any other diabetes related questions.

BLOOD SUGAR LIVE EXPERIMENT TO CURE DIABETES The occasion of smashing Guinness by Dr. Biswaroop Roy Chowdhury by the launch of 'Diabetes Free World' in 71 languages smashed the myth of Blood-Sugar too, as our body has nothing as such. Potatoes and French Fries Consuming potatoes –whether baked, boiled, mashed or as French fries – on a regular basis is harmful for people who have diabetes. This is because the starch in potatoes is made of long strings of glucose that breaks down rapidly in the intestine. As the starch is absorbed into the bloodstream, it leads to a sudden spike in blood glucose levels. 8. Pancakes or Waffles with Syrup Though easy to make and tasty to eat, pancakes are another food that people with diabetes or at a higher risk for it should avoid. Are Dried Figs Good or Bad For Diabetes Download Diabetes Management Book: http://bit.ly/2g0NDAH Hello, I'm Ty Mason from TheDiabetesCouncil.com, researcher, writer and I have type 2 diabetes. Today I'm going to answer the question, are dried figs good for diabetes. But before we get into that, make sure you download my free diabetes management book which also includes a diabetes grocery shopping guide (foods to eat and avoid). The fig tree, which bears figs, is a member of the ficus family. Technically the fig is not a fruit but is rather an infrutescence, which means that it is formed when multiple flower buds and plant sexual organs fuse together. A “true” fruit is made up of a single plant ovum that comes from just one blossom. But it is acceptable outside of a botanist lab or home to call them fruit. As with any fruit and one with diabetes, fresh is preferred not only for taste but for nutrition. Drying food preserves most nutrients and protects it by removing the moisture that bacteria, yeasts, and molds need to live. While drying destroys some of the nutrients like vitamin C, removing water concentrates the material that is left. This means jamming more calories, dietary fiber, and vitamins and minerals into a smaller space. This means about a quarter cup of dried fruit has much of the same calories, carbs, etc as a cup of fresh fruit since most fruit is 75% water. Nutritionally dried figs are very low in Saturated Fat, Cholesterol and Sodium. It is also a good source of Dietary Fiber. The GI of dried figs is 61 which is a medium level food. But the GL, which actually tells us what the food will do to our blood sugar after eating it is a whopping 43! Anything over 20 is considered high. There are 95 carbs, 371 calories and 71 grams of sugar in a 1 cup serving of dried figs. Let’s compare that to fresh figs. In a cup of fresh figs there are 148 calories, 38 carbs and 32 grams of sugars. Which brings the glycemic load down to 16, a medium GL food that is good in moderation. So, are dried figs good for diabetes? No they aren’t. If you want to have figs, opt for fresh but only in moderation. Fruit is good for a healthy diet plan, but the fig is better left to the newton and away from our plates. I hope this answered your question are dried figs good or bad for diabetes. Don’t forget to get your diabetes management book. Let me know if you have any other diabetes related questions.

World's Best and Worst Foods for Diabetics | Healthy & Dangerous Foods for diabetics. Despite conventional wisdom, a diabetes diagnosis doesn’t mean you have to commit to a bland and boring diet. There are loads of delicious foods that are safe and healthy to eat—you may just not know what they are yet. But that’s okay, because we’re here to help!. In this video we will learn about World's Best and Worst Foods for Diabetics. Healthy or Best Foods for diabetics. 1. Oats. “Oats contain a type of fiber called beta-glucan, which seems to have an anti-diabetic effect,” explains Jackie Newgent, RDN, CDN, author of The All-Natural Diabetes Cookbook., adding, “I advise people with diabetes to steer clear of added sugars by enjoying savory rather than sweet oatmeal.” For some tips on whipping up a delectable bowl of oats, dig into these 20 Savory Oatmeal Recipes for a Flat Belly. 2. Quinoa. This nutty, trendy whole grain is a good source of fiber and protein, making a smart pick for a diabetes diet, Sarah Koszyk, MA, RDN tells us. “With the fiber and protein combination found in quinoa, you’ll feel fuller and have better blood sugar control. Protein also helps with the uptake of carbohydrates so the body can process them more easily. I suggest enjoying quinoa in a salad or casserole.” 3. Wild Salmon. “Salmon is a smart addition to anyone’s eating plan, but for individuals with diabetes, it’s especially beneficial,” Zanini tells us. Here’s why: “It’s a healthy protein source that will not raise blood sugar levels and will help to lower ‘bad’ cholesterol levels, which increases the risk of heart disease and stroke—a major concern for diabetics.” 4. Leafy Greens. One the best ways to control your blood sugar is to follow the diabetes plate method, which calls for filling half your plate with non-starchy veggies, a quarter with a grain or starchy veggie, and a quarter with a lean protein. “This method helps keep calories in check, portions satisfying, and nutrients high,” .This nutrient is essential for people with diabetes since they have a higher risk for blindness than those without diabetes.” For more foods that will keep your peepers healthy, dig into these 4 Best Foods for Eye Health. Dangerous or Worst Foods for Diabetics. 1. White Bread. You can have bread, but just not the white kind, says Lori Zanini, RD, CDE, creator of The Free 7 Day Diabetes Meal Plan. “White sandwich bread is a refined grain, not a whole grain. When eaten as is, it has a high glycemic index and can directly lead to elevated blood-sugar levels.” Swap white bread for whole grain or Ezekiel bread and choose whole-grain pasta or a legume-based pasta in lieu of regular nutrient-stripped noodles. We like Banza Chickpea Pasta. 2. Fries. It’s not that you can’t eat potatoes, you just have to be cognizant of how they’re prepared and how much you consume. French fries, for example, are a no-go. “Fried foods are high in simple carbs and fat, which is a tough combination for diabetics. It will raise blood sugar quickly and keep it high for a long time because the fat takes awhile to digest,” Zanini explains. Boiled or baked potatoes, on the other hand, are safe to eat in moderation. 3. Fancy Coffee Drinks. Sure, they look awful tempting topped with whipped cream and chocolate sauce, but you’ll want to say “no” to sugary coffee drinks, Zanini advises. “A small ice-blended chocolate coffee drink from a café can easily contain over 44 grams of sugar, which is equal to 11 teaspoons. That’s much more than the American Heart Association’s 6 teaspoon recommendation.” And speaking of the sweet stuff, say goodbye to added sugars—and farewell to your belly—with the Zero Sugar Diet!. These are 6 foods you need to avoid to lose weight. These are not necessarily things you should never eat again, but if you're looking to lose body fat you want to stay away from these. Learn what to eat to get six pack abs 🔥 FREE 6 Week Challenge: https://gravitytransformation.com Fat Loss Calculator: http://gravitytransformation.com/macro-calculator/ Are you trying to lose weight? You’re working out, you’re counting calories, but still, you’re not getting any results? It might be because you’re eating these 6 foods that keep you from shedding those extra pounds. In this video, I’ll show you exactly what foods you must stop eating to lose weight permanently… and which foods to replace them with. You’ve probably heard that the one thing that truly matters for weight loss and weight gain is calories in, calories out. If you burn more calories than you eat, you should lose weight, right? True, however, if you only eat donuts and cake, will you get the protein, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals you need for a lean, healthy body? You won’t - and that’s why a proper diet is so important. A calorie is not a calorie - some food are simply better for you than others. A 100 grams of fructose won’t have the same impact on the body as 100 grams of quality protein. The fructose will lead to insulin resistance, higher ghrelin levels and increased appetite, The protein will give you a feeling of fullness which will prevent overeating, not to mention that it will help you build muscle. Now that you know that calories aren’t all that matters, let’s take a look at the 7 foods you should drop if you want to lose fat. 1. Sugar With a nickname like “white death”, it’s no surprise sugar is at the top of this list. Sugar is nothing more than empty calories. It has no nutritional value, no vitamins and no minerals. It spikes your blood glucose and in the long term leads to metabolic syndrome, obesity, cardiovascular disease and especially type II diabetes. You can even get addicted to it and suffer withdrawal symptoms because sugar causes a release of dopamine in the reward center of the brain. Not to mention that it is extremely bad for you teeth. So what can you when you get the sweet tooth? Raw honey is a great substitute that won’t spike your insulin and actually has a ton of amino acids, vitamins, minerals and enzymes. 2. Refined grains Pasta, bread, and pizza are delicious. However, most of them are made out of refined grains. Refined grains are high on the glycemic index and can spike your blood sugar levels, leading to weight gain and type II diabetes. One study found that eating just two slices of white bread per day was linked to a 40% greater risk of weight gain and obesity (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25335643/). In the process of refinement, the bran and germ of the grain are removed, along with most of the nutrients. But don’t worry, you can still eat grains - just make sure they’re whole. 3. All sodas and sugary drinks, diet or not What goes for sugar goes for sugary drinks as well. If sugar is just empty calories, then sugary drinks are liquid calories. The problem with these is that we don’t really detect them. You can drink a whole meal’s worth of calories and still be hungry. A single bottle of Coca-Cola “only” has 184 calories, but even if you just have one or two a day, they add up quickly. The best solution is to simply cut them out completely and drink water. 4. Alcohol Alcohol has more calories per gram than carbs or protein - 7. That means it is easy to go over your week’s calories on a Friday night out. But it’s not just the calories. Alcohol is a poison to the body. When you drink it, the liver burns alcohol instead of fat - stopping your fat burning for several hours. For example, a regular beer has 150 calories. A few of those, and some fast food at the end of the night can quickly come out to over 1000 in calories. If you want to drink, do it in moderation. 5. Salt Unlike most of this list, salt is the one thing you shouldn’t give up on. The two minerals found in it - sodium and chloride - are both necessary for optimal function of the body. Going too low leads to higher LDL levels, increased insulin resistance, increased risk of death from heart disease, heart failure and type II diabetes. However, too much salt has been linked to stomach cancer. In fact, people with high salt intake have a 68% higher risk of stomach cancer. (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22296873) Over 90% of Americans eat too much salt (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22854410/). But most of that comes from processed foods, which we know are bad. If you stop eating processed foods most of the time, you don’t need to worry about salt too much. Trans fat Eating fat doesn’t make you fat and not all fats are bad for you. However, trans fats should definitely be avoided. Short for trans fatty acids

Cholesterol is a waxy, fat-like substance that’s found in all cells of the body. Our bodies need cholesterol to make hormones that protect the body, vitamin D and bile salts that are necessary for the breakdown of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Plus, the brain and nervous system depend on cholesterol for the creation of neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine. Our bodies make the cholesterol that we need, but we get cholesterol from our food too. If you have too much cholesterol, it starts to build up in your arteries and may lead to atherosclerosis, or the hardening of the arteries. Here is a list of 10 foods to avoid if you have a Cholesterol. 01:02 Macaroni And Cheese. 02:05 Egg Yolks. 03:09 Red Meats. 04:07 Milk and Other Conventional Dairy Products. 05:06 ice cream. 06:03 Canola Oil and Other Processed Vegetable Oils. 07:02 Cookies and Other Sugary Treats. 08:01 Bacon and Other Processed Meats. 09:08 Processed Meats. 10:01 Potato Chips and Other Packaged Foods. Macaroni and cheese are necessary to limit among the foods high in cholesterol to avoid. We all know that the main macaroni and cheese ingredients include cheese, butter, and whole milk. Many types of cheese are rich in cholesterol with about from 7 to 11% daily value for cholesterol per ounce. One of the most common foods high in cholesterol to avoid is egg yolks. We know that eggs are always a good choice for breakfast as it contains a lot of nutrients that is necessary for the body. But they are also rich in cholesterol that is not good for the people with heart disease and high cholesterol levels. Red meats are a good food for the health in general. But for the people with high cholesterol levels, they are the foods high in cholesterol to avoid. These meats like pork, lamb, and beef often have more saturated fat and cholesterol than other meats. Milk fat contains a broad range of fatty acids, and some have a negative impact on cholesterol-rich lipoproteins. The saturated fatty acids, such as lauric acid and myristic acid, increase total plasma cholesterol, especially LDL. In a cup of rich chocolate ice-cream, there are 15.36 grams of saturated fat which makes up almost a full day’s supply. This means once you consume one cup of rich chocolate ice cream, other sources of saturated fat such as meat, cheese, milk and other animal products should be avoided. When canola oil undergoes hydrogenation, which it often does to become a partially hydrogenated oil, this increases its level of trans fats. These are a group of fats that you want to avoid as much as possible since they’re scientifically known to increase LDL cholesterol and lower HDL cholesterol levels. Dietary sugars serve as the cause of obesity, several chronic diseases and a range of cardiometabolic risk factors. Today in the U.S., over 75 percent of packaged and processed foods contain some form of added sugar. Recent studies have shown that processed meats are associated with increased cardiovascular disease and stroke mortality. Evidence suggests that processed meat consumption increases the risk of heart health issues, while unprocessed meat consumption has a small or no association with cardiovascular disease. The processed meats like bacon, sausages, ham, beef sticks are high in cholesterol. These foods are very common and eaten with bread and hamburger. They are considered as a good choice for the busy people. But you should avoid these foods. Extensive research evaluates the rise in snacking, snack foods and ultra-processed foods in the American diet. Some studies show that 66 percent of calories consumed by U.S. citizens comes from packaged foods and beverages. Can people with diabetes enjoy alcoholic beverages? The answer is yes, if they follow a few simple guidelines-- learn how to safely enjoy alcohol and still stay healthy with diabetes. For more great information about type 2 diabetes, sign up for our free email program at www.DiabetesWhatToKnow.com/sign-up/ Transcript: It's a common question-- can people with diabetes still drink alcoholic beverages? The short answer is yes, but you need to make smart choices and understand the impact that alcohol can have on your blood sugar. According to the American Diabetes Association, people with diabetes should follow the same guidelines for alcohol consumption as people without diabetes, which are: Women should have no more than 1 drink per day and men should have no more than 2 drinks per day. Always check with your doctor first to see what is right for you. One drink is equal to a 12 oz. beer, a 5 oz. glass of wine or 1.5 oz. spirits or hard liquor. Alcoholic beverages are broken into four categories-- spirits, beer, wine, and liqueurs and each category has a different effect on blood sugar. Spirits include gin, rum, tequila, whisky, and vodka. For all practical purposes, they have no carbohydrate count, so they don’t raise blood sugar. In fact, they can actually cause a low blood sugar in people who are on certain diabetes medications which is why you want to talk to your doctor about alcohol. But for most people, in appropriate quantities, they pose no problems when consumed straight-up or on the rocks. The problem comes with mixed drinks because many mixers have lots of sugar which can cause your blood sugar to go too high. The solution for diabetes-friendly mixed drinks is to use sugar free mixers. For instance, a rum and diet coke would be a much better choice than rum and regular coke. The good news is that you can find low-carb versions of many commercial mixers. Always check the nutrition facts label of whatever you’re drinking to check the carbohydrate count so you know what impact it will have on your blood sugar. Beers and ales have a greater carb and calorie content than many other alcoholic drinks. This makes them both more likely to raise blood sugar and cause weight gain which is another reason for moderation! If you are a beer drinker struggling with weight, consider switching to a lighter beer. Liqueurs like amaretto and Kahlua have high levels of added sugar and need to be consumed in small quantities by people with diabetes. Red and white wines have very few carbs and they won’t raise your blood sugar. There is some evidence that moderate consumption of alcohol can be beneficial to both your heart and your cholesterol. This doesn’t mean that you should start drinking if you currently don’t, but it does mean that you should feel comfortable if you are regularly enjoying moderate alcohol consumption. Finally, one word of warning about alcohol. Alcohol is metabolized by your liver, and doing this can keep your liver busy. Busy enough, sometimes, that it isn’t as efficient about releasing its stored glucose when needed. This is why drinking heavily without eating can cause low blood sugar which can be really dangerous. It is always a good idea to combine alcohol with some type of snack or food that contain carbs. And if you struggle with drinking too much, please get help. Everything in moderation is the key to successful diabetes control. So now you know what you need to know. Yes, you can drink alcohol with diabetes. You just need to do three things: 1) Keep your consumption moderate—one drink per day for women, two drinks per day for men. 2) Choose low carb options 3) If you are keeping track of carbs, then remember to include the carbs are in your drink into your carb budget for that meal.
