Cancer Patient Gifts http://wrappedinthoughts.com/ Choosing the perfect gift for a friend or a family member can be difficult from time to time. However, when you are shopping for a loved one that is undergoing treatment for cancer or they are someone caring for somebody who is, buying just the right gift can be extremely tough. Whether you are shopping for a holiday gift, a birthday present or just something to let them know that you are thinking about them and you care, you want something that is going to be heartfelt and showing just the right sentiment. Believe it or not, sometimes the perfect gift to give someone in your life that is going through cancer treatments won't be much different than what you may give them on a normal day. You want to always take their tastes and their interests into consideration while shopping. Picking out the perfect scarf that is handpainted or a beautiful pashmina that you know they would love can be just the right thing to show that you care. Sometimes, all that a person wants to know is that you are there for them whenever they need it. You never have to let them know that you understand what they are going through, because the fact of the matter is that you may not. It is going to be important to them that you are there when they need you. Producing a thoughtful gift that is personalized will be something that they can look at and hold close when they are going through the hardest of times and treatments moving forward. Even though flowers and cards are a beautiful gesture, there is something very special about a pashmina or scarf that seems as though it was hand picked just for the recipient. No matter what type of cancer they are dealing with or what your relationship might be to the patient, there is something just right that you can pick out to share with them your thoughts and feelings. This is the type of gift that will help to give them the strength and encouragement that they need to face whatever may be heading their way in the coming weeks, months or years. While you can always research a number of the gifting websites that are out there for sending items to cancer patients, there is nothing more thoughtful than a personalized, special item. Each scarf can be tailored to the recipient and presented as a lovely gift with a poem, words of encouragement, children's names and much more. When you start to think about the different ways that you can really make such a gift special, you will surely find that this is the best way to show the person in your life that you truly care and that you are there for them whenever they may need you. Even if you live far away and you cannot be there to hold their hand or listen in person, a personalized pashmina or scarf is the best way to show your loved one that you are thinking of them as they go through cancer treatments. Like these Massage lessons !!! Check out the official app http://apple.co/1IAinBB Watch more How to Do Reflexology videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/501563-6-Techniques-for-Cancer-Patients-Reflexology So, reflexology and cancer. There is so much research that's been done over the years. And certainly research that's being done right now. So if you're curious about reflexology and cancer, I so encourage you to look into the studies. There's a major one being done right now with the National Cancer Institute in this country, the United States, with the NIH. The National Institutes of Health. It's Michigan State University and they are doing incredible work on breast cancer patients and reflexology. This is their second grant and it's really astonishing work. So just research it if you like. Branch Reflexology. Barbara Bower. There's some wonderful people doing that. So it's out there. With cancer, it really depends on the person you're with. If they have cancer, it's really important that you're communicating with them the whole time. If they're undergoing some kind of chemotherapy, they might be really, really sensitive in their feet. So you might want to focus more on relaxation techniques. So we'll start with those. Some of the ones you can use might be the lung press for example. With the lung press you're going to go ahead and make a fist and you're going to with your thumb go ahead and insert it there. And then this hand will support the foot. So this part of the hand will be on the ball of their foot. So we bring it right there and we're just going to support with these fingers. Then to do the lung press we go ahead and press forward and then we kind of wave their foot towards us back. And we go front and back. We're going to do this bilaterally. So it means we're going to be doing it on both feet. We could do it the other direction too. You'll do the other foot as well. Some of the other things you could do could be the metatarsal mover. Just with your thumbs moving the metatarsal heads ever so gently. Again it's really important sometimes the just gentlest of touch for someone who's going through cancer is really, really special. So I encourage you to look into how to be present with your friend or family member and even just holding the feet can be really valuable. You can also work on the foot, in general, as a whole. So you could do all the reflexology techniques. You could do the thumb walking, the finger walking, in particular for the entire body. So we can for instance to the whole arch or belly of the foot. You could do the thumb walking up. You're passing through all of these wonderful vital organ reflexes. Certainly get your maps and look at what you're passing through. You might want to give a little more or less attention to something depending on the kind of cancer your person has. In addition you also can do thumb walking on the heels. You could do it on the ball of the foot. The whole lymphatic system falls through here and across here. So certainly you could do everything, but the relaxation techniques tend to be very popular amongst cancer patients.

http://AmaRegenMed.com Hello, my name is Lawrence, I’m 73 years old, I have stage 4 cancer, and this is the story of my cancer treatment combined with ozone therapy. I started with cancer 3 years and a couple of months ago. My cancer treatment consisted of some radiation on my bones. I also went through chemo and they gave me lots of warning labels of how difficult the chemo and the side effects could be and how it would effect your mind and everything else. After chemo the thinking problems were really there. Physically, I was sleeping a lot, not sleeping good. My digestion and other issues weren’t bad but they were certainly there. I started the ozone therapy with Dr. Pien and improved continuously in my thinking and my working and my energy level was coming up. Then suddenly this summer after a couple of months of ozone my mind stopped having racing negative thoughts. They just disappeared. I’m going to lay my head back and close my eyes because I’m a coward. Wow, that was easy. I consider that just a great and wonderful gift that I dealt with for 50 years and it’s clearer thanks to the ozone. My mind is clear. I’m sleeping really good. I’m able to go through a whole day without having to take a nap. I’m able to drive without falling asleep. I’m still going through cancer treatment with chemo and the chemo is getting stronger. I think that if it wasn’t for this ozone treatment, this cancer would have killed me a long time ago. I have cancer and I’m undergoing chemo treatments but I am just absolutely healthier today than I was when I first started the ozone therapy. Very much healthier today. The cancer and the treatments are not having an affect on my life at all. I’m not in pain. I’m not in any of these things that they ask me all the time. Are you in pain? No. Have you got weight gain or weight loss? No. My blood pressure is perfectly fine as it has been all the way through this whole time I’ve been undergoing the cancer treatments. I’m doing great. If I didn’t have cancer, people would never know it. They would think wow, Lawrence is doing great. I’m looking forward to this final stages of getting rid of the cancer but that will happen in time. And getting the work done that I need to do in order to take care of peoples lives. Thank you very much Dr. Milgrom. Thank you very much Dr. Pien for what you have done for me and the ozone therapy treatments you have giving me to help fight . It’s been phenomenal. Thank you. On today's Health & Wellness vlog with Faith Franz, we discuss what information is important on the food label for mesothelioma and cancer patients. Key nutrients to look for are the calorie content, what fats are in your food, and the amount of protein. Those cancer patients looking to gain weight will need to increase the amount of calories they take in a day, while those looking to lose weight can take in less. Also, everyone should do their best to avoid or reduce the amount of trans and saturated fats they take in, if you're unsure if those are included in your food, look at the ingredient list and make sure there are no hydrogenated oils. Lastly, protein is very important for cancer patients as it helps the body and muscles recover from treatment. If you have any questions or would like additional information on mesothelioma, visit us at www.asbestos.com or call us at 1-800-815-7324. Transcript: "Hi guys, I'm Faith and I'm the Health & Wellness blogger with The Mesothelioma Center. Today we're going to be looking at nutrition labels and talking about how you as a mesothelioma patient can use them to help fuel for optimum recovery. Now the first thing that you're going to see on a standard nutrient label is the calorie content of the food. Now your calories are going to tell you how much energy you get out of the product. Things with a higher calorie count are going to give you more energy, and things on the lower end of the spectrum your body will process a little bit quicker. Now the amount of calories you need each day is going to depend on your body size, your gender, your activity level and your weight goals. Now if your doctor thinks you might need to gain some weight because you are losing too much from chemotherapy, you're going to want to increase the amount of calories you take in a day. The best way to do that is to choose calorically dense foods like peanut butter or cream-based gravies, that give you about 200-300 calories per serving. Now if you're trying to lose weight, you're going to want to make sure your foods fall on the lower end of the calorie spectrum. As you move along down towards the bottom of your ingredient list, you're going to come across a section that talks about total fats. This incorporates four different types of fats. You've got your trans fats, your saturated fats, your monounsaturated fats, and your polyunsaturated fats. You're going to want to try to reduce the amount of trans fat and saturated fat in your diet, but the trick is food companies don't have list these ingredients if there's less than half a gram per serving. To make sure that you're not eating these without knowing it, you can take a quick peek at your ingredient list to make sure there are no partially hydrogenated oils. Now your fat can take up about 25 percent of your daily diet. Depending on how many calories you're eating this could be between 50 and 65 grams of fat per day. You can scale back towards the lower end if you're experiencing nausea or diarrhea from chemotherapy or radiation therapy, because sometimes it's hard for the body to break down extra fats and it can lead to extra digestive distress. The next thing you're going to find on your nutrition list is protein. Now this one is especially important when you're undergoing recovery because your muscles need a lot of protein to repair themselves correctly. You might want to shoot for about one gram of protein per pound of body weight while you're recovering from cancer. Some good sources are yogurt, lean meats, beans, and nuts. Now that you understand how these nutrients help your body recover, you're on your way to being able to fuel yourself properly through treatment. Of course you shouldn't make any of these changes before you talk to a dietitian or nutritionist. But if you do implement them, and they work for you, come on over to Asbestos.com and let us know. See you next time!" Warriner was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2006 and, after induction chemotherapy, underwent autologous stem cell transplantation at MD Anderson. He eloquently shared his story at the colloquium and will soon present his experiences to a panel at the National Cancer Institute. Immediate and late effects of symptoms and toxicities of cancer treatment can cause great distress to patients, limiting their functioning during and after treatment, and sometimes causing premature termination of treatment or reductions in dose. Therapy-related toxicities also can limit the development of new treatment options. As a step toward addressing these issues, we convened a working panel in March 2011 at a colloquium that included stakeholders in cancer research, industry, regulatory agencies and advocacy groups. The participants came together in Houston to identify the challenges that have prevented progress in reducing treatment-related symptom burden. We also developed a list of strategic steps to address these challenges, and identified stakeholders and agencies that could implement them.

Cancer treatment can be a long and scary journey, but one boutique is offering patients products to make the journey a little more comfortable. Retail Associate Pamela McCrone works at Cookie’s Place at the Regional Cancer Center. She says cancer patients are often overwhelmed when they come to the center. “The gals come in many times a little shaky many, many times, not knowing what to expect. Hopefully, we do provide a service for them and they walk out feeling whole again.” McCrone says her goal is to help patients find solace when they walk into Cookie’s Place. “It was started by Cookie Needle who is a cancer patient herself, who has passed away. She started the boutique years ago before the cancer center was open. She kind of started a process for ladies for makeup, hair, and wigs.” Filled with essential oils, soaps, and gifts, many might mistake Cookie’s Place for a gift shop. But Pamela says it offers patients with so much more. “It’s a medical boutique, not just gifts.” Cookies Place is filled with hats, scarves, bathing suits, even a lending library so patients can check out books to help them through their treatment. “Anything that we could do to help our patients, like massage, the oils, wigs, and prosthetics are big volume,” said McCrone. Patients undergoing chemotherapy can also browse through the wide selection of wigs. The associates are trained to help patients find the right prosthetics that will work for them. “It is, to me, a phenomenon. I just am amazed at what they have provided for the patients,” said McCrone. A variety of services and products that offer patients hope and comfort through their cancer treatment. It's hard to miss the trendy boutique located in the Regional Cancer Center. Cookie's Place is a step off the beaten path. It offers retail therapy, with products hand-picked for people undergoing cancer treatment. "We do jewelry, we do several gift items, we do a lot of scarves. We do breast forms and undergarments for the ladies and of course our wigs," says Lindy French, coordinator of Cookie's Place. There are also indulgences like spa setting massages that treat not only the body, but the spirit as well. "It gives them a break and it lets them have an enjoyable moment for a small part of their time here," says French. Cookie's Place is named in honor and memory of Cookie Needle. She created the shop in hopes of giving cancer patients, she was one herself, the opportunity to look and feel good. And that's exactly what it did for breast cancer survivor Erini Bonou-Price. "I always will come here to get the wigs because I'm so used to the wigs now I don't think I can ever wear my own hair." "It shows them that they can still be feminine and they can still look very attractive and no one needs to know what is going on inside of their bodies," says French. Because the Cookie's customer wants to not only beat cancer, but look good doing it. "It is important how we look, to me it is and I'm sure to every other women it is important how we look," says Erini. And so, like the other services in this building, Cookie's Place has become a healing space. High dose Vit C helps make cancer treatment more effective. http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316643.php HIGH DOSE OF VITAMIN C MAKES CANCER TREATMENT MORE EFFECTIVE: Common treatment options for cancer, such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy, can be expensive and sometimes ineffective. However, a new clinical trial tests the effect of high-dose vitamin C in combination with standard treatment on health outcomes for patients with cancer. In the 1970s and 1980s, Nobel Prize winner Linus Pauling, together with surgeon Ewan Cameron, first hypothesized the clinical benefits of vitamin C for treating people with cancer. Since then, further studies in animals and cancer cell cultures suggested that a high concentration of ascorbic acid might prevent and treat cancer. More recent studies have examined the combined effect of high-dose vitamin C and conventional cancer treatment. Some of this research showed that patients who received the combined treatment had a slower progression of the disease, while others have suggested that the side effects of chemotherapy were less pronounced among those who also took high doses of vitamin C. To obtain a high dose in these studies, vitamin C is usually administered using intravenous infusion. Vitamin C has a short half-life of only 2 hours in the human body, which is why it must be administered in high doses as a treatment. A new clinical trial studies the effect of giving between 800 and 1,000 times the daily recommended dose of vitamin C to patients with brain and lung cancer. The new research was led by scientists at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, and the results were published in the journal Cancer Cell. Vitamin C passes human safety trial As part of the human safety trial, 11 patients with brain cancer who were undergoing standard chemotherapy and radiation therapy were also administered three weekly intravenous infusions of vitamin C for 2 months, and then two weekly infusions for 7 months. Each infusion raised the patients' blood levels of vitamin C to 20,000 micromoles (μM). The average level of vitamin C in adults is approximately 70 μM. Overall, the treatment was tolerated well. The team noted very few minor side effects, such as dry mouth or rare and brief episodes of high blood pressure. This safety test was the first phase of a series of clinical trials that will investigate whether high-dose vitamin C can effectively increase the lifespan and quality of life for patients that are being treated with chemotherapy and radiation therapy. For now, the data from the phase I trial show that patients with glioblastoma survived for 4 to 6 months longer than the average survival time noticed in patients who undergo conventional treatment alone. Specifically, patients who also received high doses of ascorbic acid survived for 18 to 22 months compared with 14 to 16 months, which is the typical survival rate for glioblastoma. For the upcoming phase II of the clinical trials, the scientists will examine the effects of vitamin C in participants with stage 4 lung cancer as well as in those with highly aggressive brain tumors, such as glioblastoma. How vitamin C weakens cancer cells The mechanism that might explain the potential efficacy of vitamin C in treating lung and brain cancer relates to the cancer cells' metabolism. As a consequence of the faulty metabolism that occurs inside the cancer cells' mitochondria, these cells produce abnormally high levels of so-called redox active iron molecules. These molecules react with vitamin C and form hydrogen peroxide and hydrogen peroxide-derived free radicals. Scientists think that these free radicals drive cancer cell death by damaging the cells' DNA. The free radicals are also thought to weaken the cancer cells and make them more vulnerable to radiation therapy and chemotherapy.

This is a quick and cute project that will hold one mini TicTac and a lip balm. It was originally created for a little "thinking of you" gift for someone undergoing chemotherapy. I also tucked a little note inside telling her we were thinking of her and praying for her. These are fast and easy to create, so I also called them my first RAC RAK, or Rejoice And Create Random Act of Kindness. You can make four from one 8 1/2" by 11" sheet of card stock, so make a few and give them to friends and family, or anyone who is undergoing treatment for cancer. They would also make a nice gift for out of town relatives, especially during the fall and winter. Just change the support ribbon to an oval, perhaps the stitched shape oval, and leave it on the dresser or nightstand. I hope you enjoy this and give it a try. Subscribe to my channel so you won't miss any videos, and please stop by my blog at RejoiceAndCreate.com.

Handpainted Scarf http://wrappedinthoughts.com/ Choosing the perfect gift for a friend or a family member can be difficult from time to time. Mary Anderson,Oral Chemotherapy Registered Nurse Clinician, with the Norton Cancer Institute, explains the different types of chemotherapy treatments available and what to expect while going through treatments. Mouth sores can present themselves after chemotherapy as redness on the inside of your mouth, a white coating on your tongue bleeding gums or trouble swallowing or chewing and having cracks on the corners of your mouth. There are several things that you can do to prevent mouth sores but even with the best prevention techniques possible you still might get mouth sores so don't blame yourself if it happens. First of all, you want to use a soft bristle toothbrush. Brush your teeth two to three times a day by even taking your toothbrush and running it under warm water so it softens the bristles even more. Rinsing your mouth out two to three times a day with a mouth rinse that does not contain alcohol or peroxide. There are many over-the-counter formulas and you can talk to your doctor or your nurse about what's best for you. Also you can use baking soda by mixing a teaspoon of baking soda in a cup water and rinsing your mouth out two to three times a day with that will also help. Foods that you might want to avoid would be foods that are spicy, foods that are very acidic or even very salty. Extremely hot beverage should also be avoided. If you do develop sores in your mouth, especially if it's difficult to eat or chew or swallow, make sure you call your doctor. There are prescription medications that your doctor can prescribe to help these sores get better. Learn more about chemotherapy https://www.nortonhealthcare.com/chemotherapy

Authors: Sara Arian, MD; Rebecca Flyckt, MD; Richard Herman, MD; Hadi Erfani, MD; Tommaso Falcone, MD Abstract: OBJECTIVE To describe and demonstrate ovarian tissue cryopreservation (OTC) as an emerging fertility preservation technique. Ovarian tissue cryopreservation is currently the only proven fertility preservation option for prepubertal girls and pediatric patients with cancer. DESIGN Video presentation of clinical article. The video uses animations and images and presents a surgical case to demonstrate the detailed surgical technique for laparoscopic oophorectomy in a 6 year old female patient followed by creating strips of ovarian tissue for ovarian freezing. Institutional Review Board approval was not required for this video presentation. Institutional Review Board approval is not required at the Cleveland Clinic for a case report of a single patient. SETTING OTC is not only an emerging option for fertility preservation for pediatric patients and prepubertal girls with cancer, it is also an evolving option for reproductive-aged women with cancer or benign conditions such as autoimmune diseases (e.g. multiple sclerosis and severe rheumatic diseases) or aplastic anemia, who may also need to undergo high doses of gonadotoxic chemotherapy or bone marrow transplant. This promising investigational option may also serve as a fertility preserving opportunity for adult female cancer patients with hormone sensitive malignancies who are advised against controlled ovarian stimulation associated with in vitro fertilization (IVF), or in patients who cannot delay cancer treatment in order to undergo oocyte or embryo cryopreservation. Approximately 95 children have been born or will be born in the near future worldwide following OTC and transplantation of cryopreserved ovarian tissue. OTC in the United States can currently only be offered under IRB-approved experimental protocols. At our institution, under an IRB-approved tissue registry, women desiring OTC undergo extensive counseling prior to the procedure. Recently a pediatric IRB at our institution has allowed children with cancer and other conditions whose treatments threaten future fertility to bank ovarian tissue as well. The experimental nature of this procedure is discussed with patients/families extensively prior to signing a consent form. PATIENT(S) In this video, we outline our technique for laparoscopic ovarian tissue harvesting followed by OTC. The video presents the case of a 6 year old female patient diagnosed with aplastic anemia with plan for bone marrow transplantation. She underwent laparoscopic unilateral oophorectomy in conjunction with the surgical procedure for port placement by the pediatric surgeon, followed by cryopreservation of ovarian tissue. INTERVENTION(S) The patient underwent laparoscopic unilateral oophorectomy followed by ovarian decortication in the operating room, and ovarian tissue freezing prior to undergoing bone marrow transplantation. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S) To present the principle surgical techniques of ovarian tissue harvesting prior to OTC in pediatric patients. We also describe different surgical techniques for ovarian autotransplantation of cryobanked ovarian tissue after completion of gonadotoxic treatment and when the patient is ready to conceive. RESULT(S) This video demonstrates the detailed surgical technique for ovarian tissue harvesting. This harvesting can be performed laparoscopically or via mini-laparotomy and can involve a complete oophorectomy versus removing a portion of the ovary (a procedure also known as ovarian decortication). In the prepubertal child, due to the small size of the ovaries, we recommend oophorectomy rather than decortication owing to the small size of prepubertal gonadal tissue.

Elena Desserich was about to turn Six when she was diagnosed with brain cancer. Her diagnosis was not good and her parents were told she only had 135 days to live. A year later, she was gone. During her brief time waging war with the disease, she wanted her parents to be prepared for the inevitable. She wanted to leave them with as much peace as possible. What she did became a testament to her love and her affection for her family. Little did her parents know that Elena was preparing a final gift for them. While she was undergoing grueling chemotherapy and radiation treatments, the child was writing little notes for them. Sometimes, the sentiment was as simple as “I love you.” Other messages were more personal. Hiding them around the house, she hoped they would be found after she was gone. They helped her family cope. As a matter of fact, they found the material so helpful they turned it into a book entitled Notes Left Behind. Now Elena can help hundreds others with her idea. Talk about leaving a lasting legacy. My Story It all started with a simple loaf of bread. In October 2012, after losing a dear friend to breast cancer, I really wanted to do something to make a little bit of a difference in the lives of cancer patients directly. I began baking bread and using all the proceeds to purchase fuel cards for people undergoing cancer treatment. The response from so many people from, literally, around the world, with monetary donations and several hundreds loaves of bread baked, I’ve been humbled to touch the lives of close to 1,500 patients! I know with the continued support, thousands more warriors can be touched by Simple Loaf Of Bread! After having a cancer scare with our 13 year son in Oct of 2013, I realized that there is a large group of warriors, the Tween’kle Toes (think 11-12 year olds up to 19-20) who could really use some attention. I sent the word out, mainly on Facebook, asking for cash, gift cards or “teen approved” gifts. Hundreds of gifts poured in. With the support of so many people in my community who helped wrap the gifts and label them underneath (for the nurses to pick the perfect gift for the patient) we were able to deliver over 300 gifts to 3 different clinics in the area. https://www.simpleloafofbread.org
