Periodontal disease and Systemic Health Issues.wmv

ental scientists first turned their attention to understanding the "biologic plausibility" of how periodontitis might confer risk for systemic disease. Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) primarily are a result of atherosclerosis and are the number one cause of mortality worldwide. Increasing evidence over the past decade suggests that severe periodontal disease is associated with increased cardiovascular disease risk. Several possible mechanisms may operate independently or in concert to explain this association. The mechanisms resulting in pathology from both periodontitis and CVD are similar i.e., both diseases have complex causation that includes genetic and gender predispositions, age, diabetes, smoking, social status, and stress. Periodontal infections may directly contribute to the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and thromboembolicevents by providing repeated systemic challenges with LPS and inflammatory cytokines. The oral cavity of individuals with periodontitis represents a potentially large reservoir of Gram-negative pathogenic organisms that can penetrate gingival tissues, enter the circulation and contribute to atherosclerosis progression. The possible relationship between infectious diseases and the genesis of atherosclerosis remains hypothetical. It is important todistinguish between the potential role of infectious diseases in atherogenesis and the possibility that infection may enhance a smoldering inflammatory process that is already present in atheromatous plaques.

5 Effective Home Remedies for Gum Disease

03:48
Gum disease, also known as gingivitis, is a common condition characterized by symptoms like persistent bad breath, red or swollen gums, bleeding gums, receding gums and loose teeth. If not treated, it can advance to periodontitis and lead to further complications. The primary cause of gum disease is poor oral hygiene, resulting in plaque buildup along and under the gum line. Plaque builds up when bacteria attach to the tooth and gum margins. Factors like smoking, hormonal changes, genetic predisposition, poor nutrition, stress, certain medications, diabetes and other illnesses also contribute to the problem. Here are a few effective home remedies that can be used to alleviate symptoms, treat gum disease and prevent further complications. 1. Hydrogen Peroxide Hydrogen peroxide works as a strong antibacterial agent that kills germs and fights gum disease. Plus, it helps whiten and brighten your pearly whites. Make sure you use the 3 percent hydrogen peroxide solution that typically comes in brown bottles, rather than the highly concentrated version. Mix equal parts of hydrogen peroxide and water. Rinse your mouth with the solution for a few seconds, and then spit it out. Use it a few times a week until you are satisfied with the results. Do not use hydrogen peroxide too often; once a day is sufficient. 2. Aloe Vera Due to its anti-inflammatory and healing properties, aloe vera has been found to be beneficial in dealing with gum disease. Being an antimicrobial, it also kills the bacteria that cause gum disease. Massage your gums with fresh aloe vera gel, leave it on for at least half an hour and then rinse it off. Repeat several times a day. Alternatively, swish some aloe vera juice around in your mouth a few times. 3. Oil Pulling Oil pulling is a traditional Ayurvedic technique that is excellent for oral care. It helps strengthen the teeth and gums, reduces plaque, and relieves bad breath. Swish one tablespoon of coconut oil around in your mouth and through your teeth. Do this for about 15 minutes or until it becomes thinner and turns milky. Do not gargle or swallow the oil. Spit it out and rinse your mouth with water. Repeat the process daily for about a month. 4. Tea Tree Oil The anti-inflammatory properties of tea tree oil help soothe irritated and inflamed gums. Simply put a few drops of tea tree oil on your toothpaste or buy toothpaste with tea tree oil in it for brushing your teeth two times a day. Do not swallow the oil. 5. Coconut Oil The antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of coconut oil help in the natural treatment of gum disease. Combining it with baking soda will help neutralize the acids in your mouth, too. Mix two tablespoons each of coconut oil and baking soda. Use this in place of your toothpaste once or twice a week on a regular basis. In addition to these remedies, make sure to maintain adequate oral hygiene, including daily brushing, flossing and using a mouth rinse to reduce plaque buildup on your teeth. Plus, get regular dental check-ups. How does dental health affect your heart health?

02:23
How does dental health affect your heart health? Is a healthy heart equal to a healthy mouth? Research goes by saying "yes" to this question. Heart disease is a serious problem in the world. Poor mouth health, too. Can better brushing and dental floss give you a healthier heart? And can dentists look into your mouth to see if you are at risk for heart disease? Dr. Dental and Chin Surgery Specialist Nihat Tanfer states that dental infections or cysts can cause heart health problems. DENTAL MEAT INTERACTING TOLERANCE OF HEART AND PLENTY INCOMPATIBILITY "The research shows that the bacterium caused by gum disease, including streptococcus sanguis, which plays a role in paralysis, has spread to the heart. In the absence of gum disease, the number of these bacteria in the heart is significantly reduced. Some studies show that as the number of bacteria taken from gum disease increases, the carotid arteries become thicker. If it gets too thick, the blood will not flow to the brain and this can cause a felc. Pretty simple, the more bacteria in the body are affected, the more the heart is affected. The lower the number of bacteria in the body, the lower the risk of heart disease. " THE EFFECT OF LIFE FORMATION ON TOOTH AND HEART HEALTH "Bacteria that play a role in tooth and heart health are caused by the lifestyles of the people. People with periodontal disease tend to have bad health habits in general. Many of them are smoking, probably not exercising, eating well, all of which are the strongest triggers of heart disease. In addition, many people with periodontal disease also have diabetes, which is another strong risk factor for heart disease. " DENTAL HEALTH INCREASES YOUR HEART HEALTH! "By preventing gum disease you can reduce the risk of heart disease. Regular dental care and dental visits can help to control your dental discomfort. If you pay attention to the treatment of your oral health, your general health condition also increases. You should regularly brush your teeth, use dental floss, visit your dentist regularly for early gum treatment. "

Severe Gum Disease is a Public Health Problem, Advanced Gum Disease Treatment Needed

03:20
TEL: 0121 270 6465 - SEVERE PERIODONTITIS IS THE 6TH MOST PREVALENT DISEASE OF HUMANS Dr Amit Patel - Dental Implants Periodontist   9 Waterfront Walk, Birmingham B1 1TX Phone: 0121 270 6465 http://www.specialistinperiodontics.com http://plus.google.com/114533237907978700121/about severe gum disease advanced gum disease treatment severe gingivitis severe gingivitis treatment severe gum disease treatment advanced gingivitis treatment Iain Chapple - Birmingham University (UK) We are unequivocal about this. Severe periodontitis is a significant public health problem. And the latest data tells us that over 11 percent of the world population suffer from Severe Periodontitis. So it's the sixth most prevalent disease of humans! Periodontitis itself is probably the most prevalent but Severe Periodontitis is the sixth most prevalent disease in humans. So it's not only important from the point of view of tooth retention, quality of life, self-esteem etc., but also it's that form of disease that is significantly and independently associated with the other systemic diseases of aging, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes etc. So, Severe Periodontitis, we are fairly unequivocal about, is a public health problem from the point of view of tooth retention and oral health. But it is also a public health concern in terms of general health and longevity. And the profession have to convince the public health sector that Severe Periodontitis is a significant public health problem. We shouldn't need to do it as the World Health Organization have identified this and flagged it up. But there seems to be some resistance or some negativity in some public health circles to Severe Periodontitis being a public health problem. We have to be absolutely clear it is a public health problem. Not just from an oral health standpoint, that's what we are most interested in, but also from a general health standpoint. To what extent should we be investing resource, time and energy in trying to manage Periodontitis? And so we have some fairly clear agreement that the majority of patients will have some degree of mild localised gingival inflammation in their mouths that does not necessarily represent a public health concern. In fact, it probably doesn't. What represents a public health concern is where there is more widespread and significant gingivitis because that is, if you like, part of the same pathway that leads to Periodontitis. Now with Periodontitis, there are mild forms of the disease. Again, one could argue that perhaps isn't a major public health concern. But the severe disease is. Because the severe disease leads to tooth loss. It's what leads to impact on quality of life, on the ability to eat, so on nutrition, on bad breath and on speech and a whole host of other issues on patients' self-esteem. Gum Disease-Best Foods to Prevent and Slow It Down

07:46
Gum or periodontal disease is an infection of the tissues and bones that surround and support your teeth. It causes gum swelling, bleeding, pain, and redness. Healthy gums are pink and firm. They do not bleed easily. There are two types of gum disease: - Gingivitis is a mild infection that affects only your gums, the soft tissue that surrounds the teeth. Your gums become red, swollen and bleed easily. It can be reversed with daily brushing, flossing, and regular cleaning by a dentist. It does not cause any tooth loss and usually is not painful - Periodontitis is a severe infection which spreads below the gums to damage the tissues and bone that support your teeth. The gums pull away from the teeth and form spaces (called “pockets”) that become infected. It causes progressive loss of the alveolar bone around the teeth. If neglected it ultimately leads to the loosening and loss of teeth Gum disease is caused bacteria (germs) that grow on your teeth and gums and are found in plaque, a clear, sticky substance produced by your mouth. Plaque feeds on sugars in the foods you eat and drink. Bacteria produce toxins and other chemicals. These toxins irritate your gums and cause them to swell and bleed easily when brushed. Plaque hardens into calculus or tartar under the gum-line which doubly irritates them and makes them pull away from your teeth. While brushing and flossing help get rid of plaque, tartar needs to be removed by a dental professional. Risk factors for gum disease: - Poor nutrition: diets low in vitamins and minerals weakens your immune systems; sticky diets high in sugary foods and bad (refined) carbohydrates help plaque grow. High sugar intakes lead to more bacteria which metabolize sugars into lactic. This eventually causes decay of teeth through demineralization - Tobacco use is dangerous for your general health and a huge risk for oral diseases be it smoked, sucked, chewed or snuffed - Alcohol consumption - Lack of oral hygiene - Stress - Family members with gum disease - Medical conditions that undermine your immune system, such as diabetes, AIDS, or leukemia "I will comport myself and use my knowledge in a godly manner." ; "First do no harm" Hippocrates "First do no harm" (Primum non nocere) Hippocrates: "Either help or do not harm the patient"

how oral health affects the body - how poor oral health affects general health

how oral health affects the body How poor oral health affects general health. PREMATURE BIRTH INCREASED TIME TO CONCEIVE INCREASED RISK OF HEART PROBLEMS INCREASED RISK OF DEMENTIA Oral Health and Diabetes LINK TO LUNG CONDITIONS PANCREATIC CANCER Your oral health is more important than you might realize. Get the facts about how the health of your mouth, teeth and gums can affect your general health. Cardiovascular disease: In a nutshell, this means heart disease. The bacteria from inflammation of the gums and periodontal disease can enter your bloodstream and travel to the arteries in the heart and cause atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). Atherosclerosis causes plaque to develop on the inner walls of arteries which thicken and this decreases or may block blood flow through the body. This can cause an increased risk of heart attack or stroke. The inner lining of the heart can also become infected and inflamed a condition known as endocarditis. Dementia: The bacteria from gingivitis may enter the brain through either nerve channels in the head or through the bloodstream, that might even lead to the development of Alzheimer's disease. Respiratory infections: The Journal of Periodontology warns that gum disease could cause you to get infections in your lungs, including pneumonia. While the connection might not be completely obvious at first, think of what might happen from breathing in bacteria from infected teeth and gums over a long period of time. Diabetic complications: Inflammation of the gum tissue and periodontal disease can make it harder to control your blood sugar and make your diabetes symptoms worse. Diabetes sufferers are also more susceptible to periodontal disease, making proper dental care even more important for those with this disease.

Handling Periodontal Disease

06:41
Dr Joseph Sarkissian - http://www.SarkissianDDS.com - passes on this important information about the importance to keep your gums healthy: The World Health Organization 2003 and 2006 reports, indicate that over 85 percent of adults in the United States have gum disease. Most dont even realize it. In the beginning, symptoms can be slight, a little bleeding when you brush your teeth or puffy gums. But if not dealt within the early stages, periodontal disease can lead to receding gums, lost teeth and chronic bad breath. Studies have also discovered an association between infected gums and other dangerous health conditions. Scientists have published over a 1,000 studies showing a possible link between gum disease and systematic illnesses like heart disease, respiratory disease, blood clots, strokes, diabetes and other dangerous health conditions.

What effect does chronic dental problems have on general health? - Dr. Sana Taher

01:32
Oral cavity is like a window to the entire body. So when we look at oral cavity, we try and assess the general condition of the patient. Sometimes chronic disease like gum diseases are related to heart disease. American Heart Association has conducted several studies on the patient with gum conditions, in the patients without gum conditions. Certain studies are conclusive that certain oral diseases are related to heart disease and certain studies are non-conclusive. However long standing dental problems whether this is a gum problem or a tooth problem might lead to other systemic conditions. It is not a definitive yes, but yes, it can lead. So a good overall oral hygiene, a good overall oral health is essential for the entire health of the body and mind.

The benefits of wheatgrass for receding gums as a natural treatment. [Subtitles Available] Wheatgrass is one of nature's most powerful natural remedies for treating gum diseases, gingivitis, receding gums, loose teeth and bacterial problems. It contains a green pigment known as chlorophyll which has strong healing effects on the body, and can be used as a gargle and mouth rinse to treat these issues. Wheatgrass works much better than oil pulling, as the nutrients are easily absorbed into the gums in order to produce fast results. Be sure to leave us a comment and let us know your results after 1-2 months of using this treatment. Relationship between periodontitis and systemic disease

06:40
The association between periodontitis and diabetes is very strong. We know through medicine, chronic diseases of aging and complex diseases are interrelated. And we pay attention to periodontal disease as a risk factor for a variety of other systemic diseases. Studies tell us that periodontitis is not a localized disease, but the body as a whole feels his presence is infectious and inflammatory disease. The question is: can we improve the health of people in general, especially in those with systemic diseases in which there is a great burden to the patient, and a high cost to society?
