Don't Ignore These Early Symptoms of Breast Cancer

22:38
Anyone can develop this breast cancer, and it is still not clear what causes it. However, certain factors put you at a higher risk. Women who get annual mammography screenings are much less likely to die from breast cancer than those who do not. Although it is more common among women, men can also get breast cancer. Here are some important warning signs of breast cancer. 01:02 Lump in the Breast or Armpit. 02:05 Red or Swollen Breasts. 03:09 Nipple Discharge. 04:07 Pain in the Breast or Chest Area. 05:06 Changes in Breast Appearance. 06:03 Nipples Become Sensitive. 07:02 Itching on the Breasts. 08:01 Pain in the Upper Back, Shoulder and Neck. Feeling a lump in your breast or armpit may be the first warning sign of breast cancer. Such lumps are often hard and painless, though some may be painful. A lump under the armpit may feel hard or thick and dense as compared with the armpit on the other side. Do not panic when you notice a lump, as it is not always cancerous. A few common causes of breast lumps are hormonal changes in the body, a breast infection and fat necrosis (damaged tissue). It is important to have your doctor check out any new or suspicious lumps on your breasts to determine the cause. When breasts hurt, most women think it is due to premenstrual syndrome (PMS), and when breasts feel hot or appear red, they usually suspect an infection. Swollen breasts with soreness or redness might even be a sign of breast cancer. A tumor located underneath a breast can push on tissues, making the breast swollen and sore. In some cases, the swelling is more prominent under the arm or under the collarbone. If you have this symptom for more than a week, be sure to see a doctor. Discharge from your nipple without any squeezing or touching of the breast may make any women wonder. Other than breast milk, any kind of nipple discharge can be a warning sign of breast cancer. When a tumor starts in the milk ducts just under or around the nipple, it may cause irritation and infection, leading to discharge. If you notice any nipple discharge, particularly clear or bloody, get it checked by your doctor. Such discharge can also be due to an infection or other condition that needs treatment. If you have an ache, sharp stab or pain in the breast or chest area, it is not a good sign. Sharp pain that comes and goes or a mild electric sensation that you may experience from one breast to another may be a sign of breast cancer. A tumor located directly behind the nipple or in one of the milk ducts often causes pain and discomfort in the breast. Though not necessarily a warning sign of cancer, pain in the breast or chest area can be due to other serious health issues that may need treatment. At times, breast pain can be due to hormonal changes in the body, birth control pills, poorly fitting bras and stress. Any change in the shape or size of your breasts is a matter of concern. You also need to keep a close eye on dimpling, shrinkage and recent asymmetry of the breasts. Deep tissue growth in the breasts may affect their shape or size, leading to physical changes. As these changes are more about appearance than feel, you might become aware of such changes while looking at yourself in a mirror. 4 Steps to Checking For Breast Cancer Symptoms

03:21
Trying to figure out how to detect breast cancer early? Well, besides regular visits to the doctor, you can also give yourself to self-examination. The thing is, the simple act of examining your breast can increase your chances of detecting cancer early, and that's huge. As we know, early-stage cancer is more likely to respond to treatment compared to one that has grown deeply in surrounding tissues. Note: you may not be able to find all types of cancer through Breast self-exam, but it's still crucial to take the step and see how it works for you. Let's get started! Step 1: For starters, stand in front of the mirror and of course, take a good look at your breasts. Be sure to keep your shoulders straight and place your arms on your hips. Things to look for: • Normal breasts; usual size, shape, and color • Evenly shaped breasts that are free of visible distortion or swelling Signs that you need to see a doctor: • An inverted nipple or one that has changed position • Bulging or puckering of the skin • Soreness, redness, swelling or rash. Step 2: At this point, you'll want to raise your arms and of course, look for the same changes Step 3: While looking in the mirror, check for any signs of fluid (milky, watery, yellowish or even blood) coming out of either one or both of the nipples Step 4: Now, lie down on your back and use your right hand to feel your left breast and of course, your left hand to feel your right breast. Using the first few finger pads of your hand, touch your breasts firmly (be gentle) while keeping the fingers flat and together. While using a circular motion (this should be about the size of a quarter), cover the whole breast right from top to bottom, and side to side. In essence, start from your collarbone to the top of your abdomen, and from your armpit to your cleavage. Just stick to a pattern to be sure that you cover the entire breast. Now, start at the nipple and continue to move in larger and larger circles until you touch the outer edge of your breast. What's more, you can choose to move your fingers up and down vertically, in rows. Do you prefer the up-and-down approach? If yes, you won't be wrong to feel just about every tissue right from the front to the back of your breasts. For the most part; • Use light pressure for the skin and tissue just beneath • Use medium pressure to feel the tissue in the middle of your breast • Then use firm pressure for the deep tissue in the back. At this point, you should be able to feel down to your rib cage. And that's it! Now you can check for breast cancer and of course, increase your chances of kicking it out of your life for good. How to Recognize Breast Cancer Symptoms

03:01
Watch more Client Videos videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/418228-How-to-Recognize-Breast-Cancer-Symptoms Over the course of a woman's lifetime, she may experience breast changes. While many end up being nothing to worry about, it's important to have any changes that you notice checked by a doctor -- just to be on the safe side. Here are the potential breast cancer symptoms to watch out for. Warning This video does not replace actual medical advice. Always consult your doctor with any questions or concerns. Step 1: Do a monthly self-exam Start performing a monthly self-exam as soon as your breasts are fully developed. Checking yourself regularly is important -- you need to know what your breasts feel like normally so you can recognize any changes. Examine yourself several days after your period ends, when your breasts are least likely to be swollen and tender. If you're no longer having periods, choose a day that's easy to remember, such as the first or last day of the month. Keep in mind that it's not uncommon for breasts to feel lumpy due to benign fibrocystic breast disease, cysts, scar tissue, infections, and other causes that have nothing to do with cancer. Tip For instructions on how to do a breast self-exam properly, go to "Breastcancer.org":http://www.breastcancer.org/. Step 2: Have lumps checked Know what you're feeling for: a lump that feels different from your breast's normal lumpiness, like discovering a pebble in your oatmeal. Though many lumps are benign, anything that feels new or odd should be checked by your doctor -- even if you've recently had a clean mammogram. Check for lumps in your armpits, too. Tip Cancerous lumps are more likely to be hard, painless, and unmovable. Step 3: Beware of dimpled skin Look for visible changes, like dimpled, puckered, thickened, reddened, or scaly breast skin, or a flattening or indentation on the breast. All are potential breast cancer symptoms that should be evaluated. Step 4: Note nipple changes Recognize the nipple changes that can indicate breast cancer -- pain; redness; scaliness; itching; skin thickening; the nipple turning inward; or discharge other than breast milk. Step 5: Have pain and swelling evaluated See your doctor about swelling in all or part of your breast, or breast pain. Though swelling and soreness are usually no cause for concern, these symptoms can be signs of a rare but aggressive form of the disease known as inflammatory breast cancer. Step 6: Get regular check-ups Have your doctor perform a breast examination at your yearly check-up, and begin annual mammograms at age 40. If you have a family history of the disease, tell your doctor: they may suggest that you start having mammograms at an earlier age. Knowing the signs of breast cancer -- and being proactive about knowing how to recognize them early -- is the best way to protect yourself. Did You Know? In a "Breastcancer.org":http://www.breastcancer.org/ survey of more than 2,200 women, 37 percent said they first detected their breast cancer with a self-exam.

The 2 Common Triggers of Breast Cancer

Certain types of cancer to the breast is stimulated by excessive amounts of estrogen and high levels of insulin. Cancer has a lot more receptors for insulin than a regular cell and cancer lives on sugar and when we have a lot of sugar, it increases insulin. He also talks about Mammograms. Two Common Triggers of Breast Cancer: • Excessive Amounts of Estrogen Recommendation: High Quality Source Sea Kelp and Cruciferous Vegetables Avoid Soy/GMO Products and Go Organic • High Levels of Insulin – It can make the cells grow, divide and multiply Recommendation: Do Ketogenic Diet and Intermittent Fasting Sugar and Refined Carbohydrates triggers insulin Mammograms • Mammograms can be traumatic because you are putting the breast in the plate and you are creating compression. • Inflammatory Oncotaxis – a term that describes a condition where cancer travels in the areas of inflammation in trauma. • They use Ionizing Radiation, these little wave particles that go through and disrupt the electrons and certain molecules in your cells which actually has been known to cause cancer. *Do Medical Diagnostic Thermography because it is non-invasive and you could pick up a lot of information from that test. I recently have a question about breast cancer, what is my opinion. There is a couple factors that I am gonna talk about. Number 1, certain types of cancer to the breast are stimulated by the excessive amounts of estrogen. Now two of the best natural remedies I would recommend to help balance estrogen would be sea kelp make sure it is from a high quality source and of course cruciferous vegetables. Both of these are natural, they have no side effects and they have potential to decrease risk of breast cancer. Of course you want to avoid soy products, GMO and go organic as much as possible. And the next factor is insulin, too much insulin can increase the risk of breast cancer as well. So of course that's why we do keto, that's why we do intermittent fasting and both of those reduce insulin. And the majority of the population is insulin dominant. Excessive insulin could make the cells grow, divide and multiply. And of course what triggers insulin is sugar and refined carbohydrates. Cancer has a lot more receptors for insulin than regular cells. Cancer lives on sugar and we have more sugar, we have more insulin so it will double it sword. Let's talk about mammograms. Number 1, mammograms can be traumatic because you are putting the breast in a plate an you are creating compression. There is a term called inflammatory oncotaxis which is a term that describes a condition whereby cancer travels by the areas of inflammation. Early Signs that Cancer is Growing in Your Body

16:15
Don’t rely on routine tests alone to protect you from cancer. It’s just as important to listen to your body and notice anything that’s different, odd, or unexplainable. Here are some signs that are commonly overlooked: 1. Wheezing or shortness of breath One of the first signs many lung cancer patients remember noticing is the inability to catch their breath. 2. Chronic cough or chest pain Several types of cancer, including leukemia and lung tumors, can cause symptoms that mimic a bad cough or bronchitis. Some lung cancer patients report chest pain that extends up into the shoulder or down the arm. 3. Frequent fevers or infections These can be signs of leukemia, a cancer of the blood cells that starts in the bone marrow. Leukemia causes the marrow to produce abnormal white blood cells, sapping your body’s infection-fighting capabilities. 4. Difficulty swallowing Trouble swallowing is most commonly associated with esophageal or throat cancer, and is sometimes one of the first signs of lung cancer, too. 5. Swollen lymph nodes or lumps on the neck, underarm, or groin Enlarged lymph nodes indicate changes in the lymphatic system, which can be a sign of cancer. 6. Excessive bruising or bleeding that doesn’t stop This symptom usually suggests something abnormal happening with the platelets and red blood cells, which can be a sign of leukemia. Over time, leukemia cells crowd out red blood cells and platelets, impairing your blood’s ability to carry oxygen and clot. 7. Weakness and fatigue Generalized fatigue and weakness is a symptom of so many different kinds of cancer that you’ll need to look at it in combination with other symptoms. But any time you feel exhausted without explanation and it doesn’t respond to getting more sleep, talk to your doctor. 8. Bloating or abdominal weight gain Women diagnosed with ovarian cancer overwhelmingly report unexplained abdominal bloating that came on fairly suddenly and continued on and off over a long period of time. 9. Feeling full and unable to eat This is another tip-off to ovarian cancer; women say they have no appetite and can’t eat, even when they haven’t eaten for some time. 10. Pelvic or abdominal pain Pain and cramping in the pelvis and abdomen can go hand in hand with the bloating that often signals ovarian cancer. Leukemia can also cause abdominal pain resulting from an enlarged spleen. 11. Rectal bleeding or blood in stool This is a common result of diagnosing colorectal cancer. Blood in the toilet alone is reason to call your doctor and schedule a colonoscopy. 12. Unexplained weight loss Weight loss is an early sign of colon and other digestive cancers; it’s also a sign of cancer that’s spread to the liver, affecting your appetite and the ability of your body to rid itself of wastes. 13. Upset stomach or stomachache Stomach cramps or frequent upset stomachs may indicate colorectal cancer. 14. A red, sore, or swollen breast These symptoms can indicate inflammatory breast cancer. Call your doctor about any unexplained changes to your breasts. 15. Nipple changes One of the most common changes women remember noticing before being diagnosed with breast cancer is a nipple that began to appear flattened, inverted, or turned sideways. 16. Unusually heavy or painful periods or bleeding between periods Many women report this as the tip-off to endometrial or uterine cancer. Ask for a transvaginal ultrasound if you suspect something more than routine heavy periods. 17. Swelling of facial features Some patients with lung cancer report noticing puffiness, swelling, or redness in the face. Small cell lung tumors commonly block blood vessels in the chest, preventing blood from flowing freely from your head and face. 18. A sore or skin lump that doesn’t heal, becomes crusty, or bleeds easily Familiarize yourself with the different types of skin cancer —melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma — and be vigilant about checking skin all over your body for odd-looking growths or spots.

Cancer Symptoms Everyone Ignores

11:24
Here are some cancer symptoms everyone ignores. If many of these signs of cancer occur, you should go and see a doctor. Cancer is a medical condition, which could lead to death when disregarding these symptoms. Subscribe for new videos: http://goo.gl/SaufF4 Voiceover by Rodney Tompkins: https://www.youtube.com/c/BigBadada2012 13: Noticeable skin and mole changes Skin cancer is not only the most common cancer in the US, but its early signs are also tricky to recognize. Skin cancer is nasty and disfigures you terribly, so catching it early on is important for a good prognosis. Melanoma is a malignant skin cancer that develops from our pigment-producing cells, the melanocytes 12: Sores that refuse to heal Cold sores in the mouth are normal, and are usually triggered out of hiding by stress and fever. Usually they aren't a cause for worry, but if you notice a particular sore that's not healing past a three week mark, then go see a doctor. A normal sore would have healed itself 11: Unexpected vaginal bleeding All women should be aware of the regularity of their menstrual cycles so that they could detect any changes that are out of the norm. Any vaginal bleeding outside of the normal cycle is a cause for concern, and could be an early sign of cervical cancer. This also applies to women who have undergone menopause. 10: Weight loss with no apparent reason Easy and unexpected weight loss might sound like a dream for some, but not when it comes with a deadly disease. Adults usually try hard to shed weight, but if your weight obviously goes down without much effort, then it's an indication of a medical problem 9: An unusual lump This should be a no brainer, as anyone with common sense would absolutely think "tumor" upon feeling an unusual lump on their body. But you'd be surprised at the number of people who ignore this symptom 8: Frequent fevers and infections Fever is the body's way of fighting off an infection. While it is a good defense mechanism, frequent and persistent fevers is a sign that the body is consistently being the victim of repeated infections due to a low immune system. Immune deficiency can be caused by any disease that affects the primary disease-fighting agents which are the white blood cells. In the case of leukemia 7: Persistent difficulty in swallowing A sore throat makes swallowing not only difficult, but also painful. If you continuously experience difficulty in swallowing, don't ignore it. Several different cancers can cause this symptom such as neck 6: Unexplained and persistent pain Contrary to what some people think, pain is not a main symptom of cancer. In fact, most cancers start out completely painless. However, any persistent pain should not be ignored as they could still indicate cancer. Brain cancer for example, is the last thing anyone would think of when they get a headache. But intense and persistent ones, especially for those who are not prone 5: Unusual and excessive bruising So you wake up one day with an unusual bruise on your arm, with no idea how it got there. No need to worry, you probably ran into something the previous day and forgot about it. But if bruises start appearing all the time with no apparent reason, and at strange 4: Feeling tired all the time We all have those days when we feel completely exhausted, but a good rest and sleep should be enough to recharge our energy. But if you experience persistent fatigue on a daily basis for over a month or shortness of breath when you didn't before, then be sure 3: Nail changes Did you know that many diseases and illnesses can be seen in the nails alone? There are approximately 30 different nail signs that can be associated with medical conditions including lung cancer, heart diseases, and nutrient deficiencies. Vertical dark lines are common in people with dark skin, but can also indicate a form 2: Changes in bowel habits and bloody stools Everyone has their own regular bowel habits, and goes to the toilet at a certain frequency that they're used to. But when there is a notable change for long periods, either having to go more often, or less, this could be a bad sign. Especially when the nature of the stool has also changed, appearing smaller, larger, or somewhat deformed, this could be a sign of colon cancer. A mass in the intestines could hinder the smooth movements of a stool, or disturb the absorption of water and elements inside the colon, making the resulting stool appear different in size, shape, and color 1: Persistent cough or hoarseness of the voice Everyone gets colds and usually there is absolutely nothing to worry about, even if you feel like coughing up a lung. But when it is accompanied with hoarse sounds, or blood, it's a red flag, and time for you to see a doctor. Especially when no other symptoms that usually accompany colds and allergies like a stuffy nose is present. Although most coughs are benign, a bloody or persistent one that's different than your regular cough must be examined to rule out lung

8 Early Symptoms of Ovarian Cancer, According to Women Who Experienced Them

09:04
8 Early Symptoms of Ovarian Cancer, According to Women Who Experienced Them The facts about ovarian cancer Ovarian cancer is estimated to affect over 22,000 American women this year alone, but its early symptoms are easy to miss, making it the deadliest form of female reproductive cancer. One reason ovarian cancer isn’t typically detected until it has reached stage 3 or 4 has to do with the amount of space in the abdomen and pelvis, Nimesh Nagarsheth, MD, associate professor of obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive science at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, told Health in a prior interview. There’s enough room for organs to move as the cancer grows, masking symptoms as a result. It isn’t until there’s no more space left for a mass or tumor to hide that patients start to notice ovarian cancer symptoms. Even then, the signs can be non-descript. After all, who doesn’t feel bloated every now and then? “The symptoms are so normal that I just thought I didn’t feel well,” recalls Ashley Steinberg, a New Jersey-based legal assistant who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at 24. “Plus, when you’re that age, you don’t think there’s something wrong with you. You figure it can’t be that bad.” While about half of all ovarian cancers occur in women over the age of 63, younger women aren’t immune to the disease, especially if they possess a BRCA gene mutation, which significantly raises the risk of ovarian and breast cancer. The good news is that 94% of women with ovarian cancer survive longer than five years if the disease is caught early, according to the American Cancer Society (ACS). But knowing how to recognize its symptoms is key. We asked four real women associated with the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition to share the first symptoms they noticed before being diagnosed with the disease. (Many of these symptoms may also have less threatening causes, but if you experience any of these ovarian cancer signs more than 12 times a month, see your gynecologist.) Here, the survivors share the warning signs that led them to their doctors. Bleedinge “In my case it was that my period was coming every two weeks,” says Sheryl Newman, who was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer at age 53. “I’d already been through menopause and stopped getting my period for about nine months. So when it started up again, I knew something wasn’t right.” Irregular bleeding is most common among women with ovarian stromal tumors (though Sheryl didn’t have them), which only account for 1% of all ovarian cancers. Stromal tumors often produce estrogen, which can cause period-like bleeding, even after menopause, according to the ACS. Bloating “It all started when my stomach felt bloated and wouldn’t go down,” says Ashley, now 29. “I ignored it, thinking it had to do with my period or my unhealthy diet. But the bloating wouldn’t go away.” The little belly Ashley always had started to expand. By the time she visited her gynecologist for an annual checkup two months later, the tumor in her abdomen had grown to the size of a watermelon, covering her right ovary and kidney. Sheryl, now 55, also found herself “blowing up” in the months leading to her diagnosis: “I knew I was putting on weight because my pants wouldn’t zip,” she remembers. “But I just thought I was getting older and, since my period was suddenly coming often, I figured that was bloating me too.” Within a few months, Sheryl says she looked like she was six months pregnant thanks to ascites, or fluid buildup that can gather in the abdomens of some people with liver disease or cancer. Increased satiety “I remember feeling full quickly,” says Kimberly Singleton, who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at age 32. “I always used to order this one salad out and could easily finish it, but suddenly I was only eating half of it.” Ascites, the same fluid buildup that causes some ovarian cancer patients to feel bloated, may also result in a loss of appetite. Cramps “In the very beginning it felt like I was having menstrual cramps,” recalls Sheryl. Since her cycle had always been accompanied by uncomfortable cramps, she didn’t think much of the discomfort at first. It’s not uncommon for tumors growing in the pelvis to cause pain in the lower abdomen. And since the discomfort can feel similar to period cramps, many women assume the tummy troubles are benign. As Alicia Dellario, 54, tells us, “It’s very easy to ignore the symptoms of ovarian cancer.” Help us to be better SUBSCRIBE for more videos here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAf3_EHAdrHMSxk6-7bHG9w?sub_confirmation=1 More from Tamam Health: -8 Symptoms of Rheumatoid Arthritis https://youtu.be/VnnvYaEuZVA -10 Early Signs of Lupus https://youtu.be/_uHju14c3NY -5 Common Symptoms Of Perimenopause https://youtu.be/R7jOfYE5TCA 8 Early Symptoms of Ovarian Cancer, According to Women Who Experienced Them By TAMAM HEALTH

Rare case sees four women develop cancer from donated organs

01:05
In an extremely rare case, four patients developed cancer after receiving organs from the same donor, with three succumbing to the disease. When doctors harvested the kidneys, lungs, heart, and liver of a 53-year-old organ donor, she had no known medical conditions, and no malignancy was detected, according to a case report published in the American Journal of Transplantation. Breast cancer cells were later found in the lung, left kidney, and liver recipients, with DNA analysis showing they came from the donor. The tree died after the cancer metastasized. A fourth organ recipient survived following removal of the donated right kidney, stopping immunosuppression drugs, and chemotherapy. The study suggests the donor has micro-metastases, which are groups of cancer cells that spread from their site of origin, but are too small to be detected. Organ donations are not allowed for anyone with an active malignancy, as cancer transmission can occur during transplantation. This rare medical occurrence, however, is believed to be the first case of breast cancer being transferred. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Next Animation Studio’s News Direct service provides daily, high-quality, informative 3D news animations that fill in for missing footage and help viewers understand breaking news stories or in-depth features on science, technology, and health. Breast Cancer - How To Begin A Yoga Practice

01:39
How To Begin a Yoga Practice For Breast Cancer Recovery Where do I start? What do I need to know to begin a yoga practice? One day at a time is where you start so not to set yourself up for failure. Start simple and small so a positive tone for each day is encouraged and then reinforced. Find a reputable yoga teacher that specializes in breast cancer recovery or a great yoga DVD. We recommend "Gentle Restorative Yoga With Dian Ross" available at http://www.breastcanceryoga.com/Products.html Now Let's Begin: Set a specific time each day (preferably mornings) Begin with consistency. Brush and floss your teeth, empty your bladder, and begin on an empty stomach Find a quiet and well ventilated space. This space will become your sacred space for healing Dress comfortably; no belts and tight jeans Play music that is soothing or maintain silence Adjust the lighting to be soft or enjoy the natural sunlight Create a room decor as uplifting as possible If possible have a mat, blocks and other props for support Start small, maybe 5 minutes at first and then gradually add onto your time The benefits of relaxing the body while giving time for the mind to consciously rest often induce deep relaxation. The deeper the tensions of mind and body the greater overall detrimental effect on the mind and body. Yoga props will assist in allowing for this relaxation to occur. Good thoughts produce good reactions and negative thoughts drain the energy right out due to the excess tension. Be open to experience yoga and the positive flow of life energy that comes through the practice. Webinar on Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar by ASTER

00:46
Early detection is the best protection from breast cancer, highlight experts • A first-of-its-kind Webinar in the UAE on breast cancer awareness hosted by Aster for Al Khail Gate residential community in Dubai focused on curbing the disease before it strikes. DUBAI-October 28, 2013: Aster, a part of DM Healthcare, the leading healthcare conglomerate in the GCC and in India, telecast a webinar on Breast Cancer awareness recently for Al Khail Gate residential community, in association with the Ladies Wing of AKGMA (Al Khail Gate Malayalee Association). The seminar, led by a panel of specialist doctors from Aster Medical Centers and Hospitals across Dubai, went live on web to mark the month of October for breast cancer awareness. More than hundred AKGMA lady members attended the live seminar on breast cancer prevention and were provided with free screening by a specialist gynecologist from ASTER Medical Centre, Business Bay. The webinar conducted for the lady members of the residential community organization began with a prayer for breast cancer victims around the world. The panel of doctors who addressed the webinar included Dr. Keya Rahul S (Specialist Gynecologist, ASTER Medical Centre- Business Bay), Dr. Mahendra Rajan (Specialist General and Laparoscopic Surgeon at ASTER Hospital-Bur Dubai), Dr. Astha Mishra (Specialist Gynecologist at ASTER Medical Centre- Al Qouz) and Dr. Usha Sethi (Specialist Gynecologist at ASTER Medical Centre-TEECOM-3, Al Barsha). Mrs. Premi Mathew, an active social volunteer and founder of "Protect Your Mom" and "Hair for Hope India" Facebook campaign pages, inaugurated the webinar with a pink ribbon ceremony for the participating women. Premi Mathew has been campaigning among healthy women to donate their hair for supporting cancer-affected women, who lost their hair after undergoing chemotherapy. Inspiring many women to donate their lustrous locks, the Dubai-based social activist's campaign is not only about getting hair donors but also focuses on awareness early detection of breast cancer. Dr. Keya Rahul donated 12 inches of her hair towards this noble cause in the function for the benefit of the cancer affected chemo therapy patients. Initiating the session, Dr. Keya Rahul said, "Breast Cancer is the most common cancer among women. One in eight women is affected by the chronic disease if she survives till 80. However, breast cancer is one of those cancers which can be detected by the women themselves, so it's not required to go to the doctor first. As the lifespan of women is generally longer than that of men, they have more chances for having cancer and it is more common to occur after 50 years of age. Two third of women are diagnosed with breast cancer after the age of 50 and even before that for some women. After the age of 40 years, women are advised to undergo MRI, ultrasound or mammogram tests." "The risk factors for breast cancer included obesity, dietary disorders and genetic mutations. Women who attain menarche before the age of 12, or having their first baby after the age of 30, and those who attain menopause after the age of 55 are also among the high-risk groups. However, 65 per cent of the breast cancer cases are hereditary (with the presence of BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes). The most important thing to prevent the disease is awareness and understanding the changes happening in the body," she added. Continuing the discussion, Dr. Astha Mishra noted, "Women of older generations generally ignored their health, especially diagnosis and treatment of chronic diseases. The breast cancer now is a menace for the women in the UAE, India and several other parts of the world. Emirati women are more prone to breast cancer than expatriate women among the UAE population. This is due to the lifestyle and dietary issues, especially estrogen disorder that aggravates the risks." "Detecting breast cancer is now easier thanks to the modern technology. However, regular self-examination of breasts is the first step for early detection and the best time for it is after the periods. All the women, whether they are Asymptomatic or Symptomatic, should do the self-examination. After 40 years, all women are advised to undergo mammogram annually. Those who are having a family history of breast cancer should go for mammogram from the age of 35 years along with an ultrasound test, as the tissues are too tender to cancer detection," she advised.

Ruth Patterson, Ph.D. on Time-Restricted Eating in Humans & Breast Cancer Prevention

This episode features Dr. Ruth Patterson, a professor in the UC San Diego Department of Family Medicine and Public Health as well as Associate Director of Population Sciences and leader of the Cancer Prevention program at Moores Cancer Center at UC San Diego Health. ▶︎ Get the show notes! https://www.foundmyfitness.com/episodes/ruth-patterson In this nearly 45-minute conversation, we talk about... • The importance of time-restricted eating as a practical public health intervention, mostly for it's ease of implementation, that may have a widespread impact on disease risk. • Why you should probably make sure your time-restricted eating window occurs earlier in the day, rather than later. • How the first 5% drop in weight loss can have disproportionately large effects on the metabolic factors associated with breast cancer risk when compared with subsequent weight loss. • The association of longer fasting durations beginning earlier in the evening and improved sleep in humans, as well as spontaneous physical activity in their day-to-day lives. • The relationship between metabolism and breast cancer risk. • The effect of lifestyle factors, such as obesity, physical activity, what and even when you eat, whether or not you smoke tobacco... and how even modest changes, such as consuming food earlier in the day and only during an 11-hour window, can decrease breast cancer risk and recurrence by as much as 36%. • The importance of starting your fast earlier in the evening, and how an earlier eating window has been shown to correlate to reductions in inflammatory markers. • The association of higher circulating insulin levels with breast cancer risk, and how insulin itself has an important relationship with estrogen by affecting the levels of sex-hormone binding globulin. • The dangers of having a cellular environment that is inflamed, as the case is with the obese, and simultaneously having elevated cellular growth signals, which is also characteristic of the hormonal milieu of the obese. • The surprisingly small role heredity plays in determining overall risk of breast cancer when compared to lifestyle factors. • How healthful lifestyle habits, like choosing to eat during the right window, ultimately helps us trend our risk for many of the diseases of old age in the correct direction instead of influencing only one or another. ▶︎ Learn more about Dr. Ruth Patterson, including some of her key publications: http://publichealth.ucsd.edu/jdp/?page_id=1208 Links related to FoundMyFitness: ▶︎ Subscribe on YouTube: http://youtube.com/user/FoundMyFitness?sub_confirmation=1 ▶︎ Join my weekly email newsletter: http://www.foundmyfitness.com/?sendme=lifestyle-heuristic ▶︎ Crowdfund more videos: http://www.patreon.com/foundmyfitness ▶︎ Subscribe to the podcast: http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/foundmyfitness/id818198322 ▶︎ Twitter: http://twitter.com/foundmyfitness ▶︎ Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/foundmyfitness ▶︎ Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/foundmyfitness

USA: PROPHYLACTIC BREAST CANCER TREATMENT A SUCCESS

01:16
English/Nat Women with a high risk of breast cancer may now be able to make a more informed choice about preventative treatment - thanks to a new U-S study. The new findings, by the renowned Mayo Clinic, have been published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Medical researchers say the increasingly common practice of removing both breasts in a healthy woman at risk of contracting cancer is an effective, if radical, way of preventing the disease. The new study confirms suspicions that the procedure, called a prophylactic mastectomy, is at least 90 percent effective. It isn't always effective because cancer may spread before the breasts are removed. Doctor Lynn Hartmann and colleagues from America's famous Mayo cancer clinic reviewed the cases of more than 600 women who'd had both breasts removed because of a family history of cancer. SOUNDBITE: (English) "The key finding for this study is what the results are with a prophylactic mastectomy. Women with breast cancer have considered this one option over the years, but have not had information about how effective it is. This study really provides the first solid evidence that the procedure does reduce the risk of breast cancer at about ninety percent." SUPER CAPTION: Dr Lynn Hartman MD, Mayo Clinic Oncologist Five-to-ten per cent of breast cancers occur in women with an inherited risk. Scientists at the Mayo clinic studied a large sample of high risk women who had both breasts removed - and then compared them to their sisters, who did not have the surgery. The incidence of cancer in those who'd undergone the radical procedure was far lower than in those who had not - confirming suspicions it was worth the effort. SOUNDBITE: (English) "The impact of the surgery on my life has been a very positive one. I feel that prior to this it was something that I was waiting for everyday, to develop breast cancer. It was something I knew would probably occur, with as great as a ninety percent chance. The surgery has allowed me not think about that on a daily basis. It really has had a very positive outcome on my life. Now that I know I can still develop breast cancer, and besides my check ups, I don't think about it on a day to day basis, and it's been nothing but a positive impact." SUPER CAPTION: Lori Edell, patient who had prophylactic surgery Doctors say news of the research should help settle the minds of women who have - in the past - considered the preventative surgery a gamble.
