Lung cancer, also known as carcinoma of the lung or pulmonary carcinoma, is a malignant lung tumor characterized by uncontrolled cell growth in tissues of the lung. If left untreated, this growth can spread beyond the lung by process of metastasis into nearby tissue or other parts of the body. The vast majority (80–90%) of cases of lung cancer are due to long-term exposure to tobacco smoke. About 10–15% of cases occur in people who have never smoked. These cases are often caused by a combination of genetic factors and exposure to radon gas, asbestos, or other forms of air pollution, including second-hand smoke. Worldwide, lung cancer is the most common cancer among men in terms of both incidence and mortality, and among women has the third highest incidence, and is second after breast cancer in mortality. Learn the signs of lung cancer to catch the disease early and ensure a positive outcome. Below are some early signs of lung cancer according to healthline.com. No Warning Lung cancer may not produce any noticeable symptoms in the early stages. In approximately 40 percent of people diagnosed with lung cancer, the diagnosis is made after the disease has advanced. In one third of those diagnosed, the cancer has reached stage 3. Cough That Won’t Quit Be on alert for a new cough that lingers. While a cough associated with a cold or respiratory infection will go away in a week or two, a persistent cough that lingers can be a possible sign of lung cancer. Don’t be tempted to dismiss a stubborn cough, whether it is dry or mucus-producing, as “just a cough.” Change in a Cough Pay attention to any changes in a chronic cough, particularly if you are a smoker. If you are coughing more often, your cough has a deeper or hoarse sound, or you are coughing up blood or more mucus than usual, it’s time to make a doctor’s appointment. Breathing Changes Shortness of breath or becoming easily winded are also possible symptoms of lung cancer. This symptom can occur if lung cancer blocks or narrows an airway, or if fluid from a lung tumor builds up in the chest. Make a point of noticing when you feel winded or short of breath. If this symptom occurs after climbing the stairs to your house, bringing in groceries, or performing another task you could previously do without finding it hard to breathe, don’t ignore it. Pain in the Chest Area Lung cancer may produce pain in the chest, shoulder, or back area. This aching feeling may not be associated with coughing. Tell your doctor if you notice any type of chest pain, whether it is sharp, dull, constant, or comes and goes. You should also note whether it is confined to a specific area or is occurring throughout your chest. When lung cancer causes chest pain, the discomfort may result from enlarged lymph nodes or metastasis to the chest wall, pleura (lining around the lungs), or the ribs. Wheezing When airways become constricted, blocked, or inflamed, the lungs produce a wheezing or whistling sound when you breathe. Wheezing can be associated with multiple causes, some of which are benign and easily treatable. However, wheezing is also a lung cancer symptom, which is why it merits your doctor’s attention. If wheezing continues, don’t assume it’s asthma or allergies. Have your doctor confirm what’s causing it. Raspy, Hoarse Voice If you hear a significant change in your voice, or if someone else points out that your voice sounds deeper, hoarse, or raspier, get checked out by your doctor. Hoarseness can be caused by a simple cold, but this symptom becomes worrisome when it hangs on for more than two weeks. Hoarseness related to lung cancer can occur when the tumor affects the nerve that controls the larynx, or voice box. Drop in Weight An unexplained weight loss of 10 pounds or more may be associated with lung cancer or another type of cancer. When cancer is present, this weight drop may result from cancer cells using energy in the body. It could also result from shifts in the way the body uses food energy. Don’t write off a change in your weight if you haven’t been trying to shed pounds—it may be a clue to a change in your health. Bone Pain Lung cancer that has spread to the bones may produce pain in the back or in other areas of the body. This pain may worsen at night while resting on the back. Additionally, lung cancer is sometimes associated with shoulder, arm, or neck pain, although this is less common. Be attentive to your aches and pains, and discuss them with your doctor. Headache Headaches may be a sign that lung cancer has spread to the brain. However, not all headaches in people with lung cancer are associated with brain metastases. Sometimes, a lung tumor may create pressure on the superior vena cava, which is the large vein that moves blood from the upper body to the heart. This pressure can also trigger headaches. Talk with your doctor if your body shows these symptoms.

Men who take the time and initiative to be proactive with their wellbeing, can avoid the top 5 dangers to their health or at the very least, catch them at an early stage when they are more treatable. 1. Cardiovascular disease is when plaques of cholesterol that buildup within the arteries block blood flow to the brain and heart. Plaque that becomes unstable by forming a blood clot can block an artery leading to a heart attack or stroke. For men, cardiovascular disease begins earlier than for women with a man’s average age for death from this disease at under 65 years. Men can take steps to prevent this – the earlier in life they start, the better. Begin by getting a cholesterol check at age 25 and every five years from there on, controlling blood pressure, being physically active most days of the week, eating more fruits and veggies and less saturated and trans fats, and never taking up smoking. 2. Lung cancer is the leading cancer killer in both men and women. But more men are diagnosed with lung cancer than women according to the American Lung Association. It’s an aggressive disease that begins in the lungs spreading early before it has grown large enough to cause symptoms or show up on an X-ray. When it is discovered, it is often advanced and difficult to cure with less than half of men still alive a year later. Smoking is the main cause of this disease leading to 90 percent of all lung cancers. It is still the leading cancer killer in men – more than enough to fill the Superdome every year. Men who have chosen to smoke need to quit as quitting smoking at any age reduces the risk for lung cancer. There are many ways a man can quit smoking and working with his doctor can help. 3. Prostate cancer Other than skin cancer, this is the most common cancer in men with about 161,360 men who will be diagnosed with it in 2017 and about 26,730 men who will die from it, according to the American Cancer Society. This walnut-sized gland behind the penis secretes fluids important for ejaculation but tends to enlarge and causes problems for men as they age. Even though prostate cancer is generally slow growing and unlikely to spread, it can also be aggressive. If men are not getting annual physicals they will often have no idea if their prostate is functioning properly or not. Screening for prostate cancer requires a digital rectal exam and a blood test for prostate specific antigen (PSA). Regular screening and discussing with their doctor the risks of prostate cancer can keep a man better informed and attuned to the signs and symptoms of prostate problems. 4. Depression and suicide We all can get depressed at times but clinical depression is an emotional disturbance affecting the whole body and overall health. Because men tend to suffer in silence hiding their depressed emotions, they often may not get diagnosed with the condition. Signs of depression in men may include appetite changes or weight loss or gain, sleep disturbances, fatigue or lack of energy, feeling restless, irritable or withdrawn, feeling worthless or hopeless, trouble concentrating or making decisions, and thoughts about hurting or killing themselves. Suicide is the eighth leading cause of death among all men; for younger men it’s higher. Any man displaying these symptoms needs to be referred to a doctor experienced treating individuals with depression to get them started with treatment right away before it’s too late. 5. Diabetes Many men who are initially diagnosed with diabetes are shocked – it’s a disease that begins silently often without symptoms. Diabetes is a condition in which blood sugar levels or glucose remain elevated in the blood and spill over into the urine. This seventh leading cause of death in the U.S. is like a slow poison that can gradually cause complications of heart disease, blindness, stroke, kidney failure, neuropathy, and amputations. Excess weight gain, an unhealthy diet and lack of exercise can be leading contributors to developing diabetes. Men who begin to make important lifestyle changes of moderate weight loss, becoming more physically active and eat a healthy diet of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean meat can reduce their chance of diabetes and the complications that go with it.

THE CAUSE OF LUNG CANCER HAS BEEN DISCOVERED: YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE WHAT THE CAUSE IS! If you live somewhere in the valley, the news is bad for you. It does not matter if you live in a city or village because when compared to someone who lives on the mountain you have a much higher risk of getting lung cancer. Besides smoking and smog, genetics and a whole life spent in mine, one of the reasons why people in certain areas often suffer from lung cancer, believe it or not, is the air they breathe. Breast cancer isn't the leading cause of cancer death - lung cancer is. In Indiana, 3800 adults die each year as a result of lung cancer. It's expected that almost twice as many women will die of lung cancer compared to breast cancer, given that adenocarcinoma is typically found in women in the outer areas of the lungs. Symptoms of lung cancer in women may be atypical and present much later. The symptoms include shortness of breath, increasing fatigue, back and shoulder pain, even pain with deep breathing. What we know is that smoking remains the leading cause of lung cancer in both men and women. If you are a lifelong smoker, talk to your doctor about early screening for lung cancer. As many as 20 percent of women who develop lung cancer are non-smokers. The great news about lung cancer CT screening is that we can detect lung cancer earlier than before.Treatment for lung cancer with either chemotherapy or radiation surgery really depends on the stage that you're diagnosed with.

Must Know: Why You Need to Stay Away From These Vitamins Multivitamin and mineral supplements became available in the 1940s, and Americans actively use them ever since. Nowadays, millions of people use supplements in order to strengthen their health and avoid nutrient deficiencies. Most people take a balanced combination of essential vitamins and minerals in the form of a multivitamin, such as Centrum vitamins. Multivitamins accounted for 40 percent of all supplement purchases, which is $5.7 billion out of the $37 billion in supplement sales in 2014 alone. Centrum vitamins, by Pfizer, are the best-selling multivitamins in the country. Their produces is the biggest pharmaceutical company worldwide, which deals mainly in manufactured chemicals. Yet, the company is also known due to the numerous legal battles, frauds, and controversy. It was recently threatened to be sued over false claims about Centrum vitamins in 2012 by the consumer watchdog group Center for Science in the Public Interest. Eventually, the company had to pull claims about breast and colon health. Moreover, it lacks regulation, specificity, and even standards. Namely, the multivitamins ask for no set standards or levels. Yet, it does what all big corporations regularly do: it pays large sums of money for advertising their chemically and synthetically enhanced supplements which can, in fact, do more harm than good. Apparently, even though these multivitamins are advertised to boost immunity and kick your metabolism they actually contain multiple additives which can be harmful or toxic to your body. Centrum vitamins contain at least 3 preservatives and several color additives, along with many toxic and even carcinogenic chemicals and additives. Here is a list of their dangerous ingredients: -Calcium Carbonate — This compound is found in rocks, shells, and even pearls. It is sometimes used to raise calcium levels in the body; but has been related to strokes and heart disease, especially in the elderly. Studies have also linked it to heart issues and myocardial infarction. -Polyethylene Glycol — It is often used in the manufacturing of coal-burning plants, rocket fuel, and over-the-counter laxatives. It might lead to kidney damage, hives and other allergic reactions, esophageal bleeding, tears, and autism. In children, it might cause encopresis, which is a continuous leakage of semi-formed feces. -Hydrogenated Oil — Hydrogenated oils quickly become toxic when processed under extreme heat, atmospheres of pressure and injections of metals. Their consumption clogs the arteries, leading to massive heart and arterial issues, and also results in producing cholesterol to bandage artery walls which have been affected. Due to the vascular issues, it affects the brain and causes Alzheimer’s and ADHD. -Food Dye Yellow 6 — This is a toxic food dye which is a carcinogen and might result in allergies, tumors on the kidneys and testes, and chromosomal damage. It might also cause ADHD, hyperactivity, and restlessness. -GMO Corn Starch — It has multiple adverse effects on the body and affects the detoxifying organs such as the liver and kidneys, but also damages the spleen, heart, and adrenal glands. Its another side effect is Hepatorenal Toxicity, which leads to kidney failure and is typically fatal. -Titanium Dioxide — It has been found to be potentially carcinogenic to humans. It’s included in various products as a whitening agent, like in ink, paper, paints, and even cosmetics and toothpaste. Even though it has been previously considered to be safe by the FDA, it has been recently found to cause lung cancer in rats. What is even more disturbing is that the Centrum vitamins for children are even more dangerous, as they include the following hazardous additives: -Cupric Oxide — This copper mineral is known to be dangerous in Europe. It causes kidney disease and childhood cirrhosis, and it is also dangerous to the environment. -Artificial Sweeteners (Aspartame) — As soon as it is ingested, this carcinogenic sweetener is converted to formaldehyde and methanol, and causes 40 adverse side effects, including birth defects, ADD, cancer, lupus, multiple sclerosis and more. -Zinc Oxide — In Europe, it is considered to be harmful, and leads to diarrhea, constipation, upset stomach and more. -Lactose (Milk Sugar) — Lactose makes up 2-8 % of the milk by weight. Specific enzymes in the stomach break it down, leading to lactose intolerance, and symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, bloating, cramping, upset stomach, and nausea. Wheezing or shallow breathing If you ask lung cancer patients what the first thing they noticed was, the majority would say it was their difficulty with breathing, or trouble catching their breath. 2. Chronic coughing or pain in the chest area Chest pain, incessant coughing, and even pain that reaches down the arms are symptoms of leukemia and lung tumors. 3. Frequently having fevers or infections White blood cells help our body to fight off infections and foreign invaders. Leukemia is a type of blood cell cancer that begins in bone marrow and causes the body to produce abnormal white blood cells, which reduces the effectiveness of its ability to fight infections. 4. Trouble with swallowing If you have difficulty swallowing, you may want to get checked for preliminary esophageal or throat cancer. It is also associated with lung cancer as well. 5. Lymph nodes that are swollen or lumps on the skin of your neck, underarm, or groin Any drastic changes in your lymphatic system should be carefully observed. These changes could be warning signs of lymphatic cancer. 6. Over-bruising and excessive bleeding When platelets and red blood cells act abnormally, there becomes excessive bruising and bleeding. This symptom can be a sign of leukemia. 7. Constant fatigue Feeling weakness in your body, and constant fatigue are symptoms of several different kinds of cancer. You’ll need to examine these symptoms in conjunction with other ones as well. As a general rule, if you ever feel exhasuted to where you can barely move without any physical reason, see your doctor. 8. Bloating in the abdomen or localized weight gain Women with ovarian cancer reported having “inexplicable abdominal bloating.” They said this bloating and weight gain happened suddenly, and appeared, disappeared, and reappeared for a long time. 9. Loss of appetite and feeling full This symptom is a warning sign for ovarian cancer as well. A vast majority of women said they “just couldn’t eat,” even if it had been a while since their last meal. 10. Pain the pelvis or abdominal area Leukemia and ovarian cancer can cause abdominal and pelvic pain. 11. Bleeding from the rectum or blood in stool This is a symptom commonly found in those diagnosed with colon cancer. If you ever notice blood in your stool, it is advisable to schedule a visit to your physician. 12. Rapid and unexplained weight loss Rapidly losing weight is a warning sign of digestive and colon cancers. It is also a sign that cancer has infected the liver. It you lose your appetite and stop producing a normal amount of waste, see your doctor.. 13. Digestive pain or stomachache having stomach cramps or frequent upset stomach pain may indicate colon or stomach cancer. 14. A red, sore, or swollen breast These are signs of breast cancer and should be examined by a physician. 15. Changes to the nipple If the nipple starts to look flattened, inverted, or turned sideways, see your doctor about possible breast cancer. Women diagnosed with breast cancer say the first thing they noticed was the changes to their nipples. 16. Abnormally heavy or painful periods/Bleeding in between cycles Several women say this is the number one symptom of endometrial or uterine cancer. Request a transvaginal ultrasound if your menstrual cycle has any significant changes. 17. Puffiness in the face Lung cancer patients report noticing “puffiness, swelling, or redness” in the face. This happens because lung tumors tend to block blood vessels, which stops oxygenated blood from flowing to your neck and face. 18. A sore that doesn’t heal Get to know the various kinds of skin cancer. Melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma are three common types. Check your skin for odd growths or spots. 19. Changes in fingernails Liver cancer, skin cancer, and lung cancer all show warning signs through the finger nails. Black spots, or lines, whitening and thickening around the edges, and “clubbing” are all signs you should pay attention to. 20. Pain localized in the lumbar spine or lower right side Several patients diagnose with liver and breast cancer cancer report this as one of their first signs. Regardless if you are a male or a female, it’s vital to pay attention to any abnormal changes in your body, as well as your energy levels. This will help to detect any signs of cancer while it’s still early. The faster you realize something isn’t quite right, the faster you can start to take the proper steps to heal your body.

The deadliest form of cancer in the U.S., involving cells that originate in the bronchi or lung. The term includes four cell types: squamous cell (epidermoid) carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, large cell (anaplastic) cancer, and small cell (oat cell) cancer. INCIDENCE In 2013, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) estimated that more than 228,000 people would be diagnosed with lung cancer and that about 159,500 would die of the disease. It is the second most common cancer in both men and women. CAUSES The vast majority are caused by carcinogens in tobacco smoke, including secondhand smoke. Other risks include exposure to carcinogenic industrial and air pollutants (asbestos, uranium, arsenic, nickel, chromium, iron oxides, coal dust, and radioactive dusts), concentrations of radon gas, and familial susceptibility. SYMPTOMS AND SIGNS Symptoms may include persistent cough, chest pain, dyspnea, weight loss, or hemoptysis. Changes in normal respiratory patterns or hoarseness, as well as pneumonia, bronchitis, epigastric pain, symptoms of brain metastasis, arm or shoulder pain, or swelling of the upper body are other possible signs. DIAGNOSIS Diagnostic tests include a chest x-ray, computed tomography (CT) scan, cytological sputum analysis, and bronchoscopy. Other tests include needle biopsy, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), thoracentesis, thoracotomy, mediastinoscopy, or pulmonary function tests. TREATMENT Treatment includes lung surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy (including epidermal growth factor receptor blockers) often provided serially or in combination. PROGNOSIS People with localized lung cancer have an approx. 5-year survival of 50%. People with widely metastatic lung cancer have a 5-year survival of less than 5%. PATIENT CARE Staging determines the extent of the disease and aids in planning treatment and predicting the prognosis. Lung cancer is relatively difficult to cure but much easier to prevent. Children and adolescents should be discouraged from smoking tobacco products, and current smokers should be assisted in their efforts to quit, e.g., through referrals to local branches of the American Cancer Society (ACS), smoking-cessation programs, individual counseling, or group therapy. SCREENING AND PUBLIC HEALTH Chest x-rays do not show small, early cancers, but computed tomography (CT) scanning can be used to screen people who have a long history of smoking and evidence of emphysema. In this high-risk group, screening detects the disease in its early stages when it is most likely to be curable. Smokers over the age of 55 who undergo annual lung cancer screening with low-dose CT scans have improved survival relative to those who do not. However, the public health costs of mass screening are high compared with the cost of encouraging smokers to quit or teaching teenagers not to start smoking. Why non-smokers are getting lung cancer Lung cancer is commonly associated with smoking. But rates of the disease among non-smokers – and women – are rising. As a lung cancer researcher and patient advocate at Trinity College Dublin, Anne-Marie Baird gets mixed responses when she tells people about her profession. One of the more memorable was when, at a scientific conference, she was asked “Why would you even bother researching that? They deserve it – and they’re all going to die anyway.” Lung cancer is the most common cancer globally, with 1.8 million new cases diagnosed worldwide in 2012 (the most up-to-date figures available). Although 58% of new cases were in developing countries, the disease is a widespread problem – 45,000 people are diagnosed with it annually in the UK, 230,000 in the US and 12,500 in Australia. Making matters worse, over the last few decades, patient survival has barely improved. In 1971-1972, the chance of surviving for 10 years after diagnosis was just 3%. By 2010-2011, 5%. Over the same period, breast cancer death rates declined by 34%. You might also like these other stories in the Health Gap: • ‘Everybody was telling me there was nothing wrong’ • Why alcohol affects women more than men • The health risks of maturing early A common view of lung cancer is that it is self-inflicted by smoking – and that the problem will eventually disappear when everyone gives up the habit. But aside from the fact that none of this helps former or current smokers who currently have the disease, there are two major flaws with this thinking. First, lung cancer cases aren’t declining across the board. The gender gap is one obvious example. More men than women still are diagnosed with lung cancer – in the US, a man’s lifetime risk is 1 in 15 while a woman’s is 1 in 17. But while a recent US study found that rate of lung cancer among men continues to fall, in young white women it has increased. And globally, while the number of men diagnosed with lung cancer has dropped over the last two decades, among women it’s risen by 27%. ? Researchers aren’t sure why. But there is some science to suggest that women might react differently to nicotine, and that women’s DNA is damaged more easily and more profoundly by carcinogens in tobacco. The health risks to women also may be becoming apparent later because women began smoking after men. Few women smoked in the 1920s in the US, for example. But as the habit began to be marketed – and seen – as a symbol of emancipation, female smoking rates rose. One study of more than 100 countries found that the link between gender equality and female smoking rates endures. “In countries where women have higher empowerment, women’s smoking rates are higher than men’s,” write researchers Sara Hitchman and Geoffrey Fong. As a result, though men are five times as likely to smoke as women globally, that’s not true in many countries. In the US, 22% of men and 15% of women smoke; in Australia, 19% of men and 13% of women. And the younger the cohort, the less of a gender gap. Of 13 to 15-year-olds, 12% of girls smoke compared to under 15% of boys in the US; in Australia, 5% of adolescents of both ages. In France and the UK, more 15-year-old girls smoke than 15-year-old boys. “Women’s empowerment must continue,” write Hitchman and Fong. “But does the bad necessarily have to follow from the good?”.

According to a research, almost 40% of patients suffering from cancer were diagnosed when the cancer has evolved in the late 3rd stage, meaning it has already made big progress. This is as it is because lung cancer shows no symptoms and it is hard to notice it in its early stages. Fortunately, there are 7 signs that indicate lung cancer and can help you in diagnosing it before it is too late. 1. Persistent Cough Pay attention to the way you cough. If the cough is gone after one or two weeks, it means you have caught a regular cough due to a respiratory infection or a cold. However, if you suffer from the same cough even after two weeks it might indicate to lung cancer. If you cough out mucus it is mandatory to visit your doctor and make the relevant tests on your lungs and chest, for example: x-rays. If there are some other changes in your cough, such as: cough with hoarse sound, cough with blood or extreme mucus, then you must not waste anymore time and visit your doctor. 2. Being out of Breath Shortness of breath is another lung cancer symptom and it is caused because of two possible things: the first is there is probably a fluid accumulated in your chest as a result of a lung tumor; the second is there is narrowing (blockage) of the airways. Therefore, if due to some daily actions you feel shortness of breath, which did not make you feel like it before, such as bringing groceries, climbing up stairs or some other actions, then it is strongly recommended to visit your doctor. 3. Pain in the chest, back or shoulders Even though pain caused in the above mentioned areas is not often connected with lung cancer, it may be caused as a result of metastasis on the chests, lungs, or enlargement of the lymph nodes or the ribs. It does not matter if you feel healthy, strong, constant or dull, what matters is that you must visit your doctor in order to make sure what is going on with your health condition. 4. Whistling/Wheezing If you notice a wheezing or whistling sound while you breathe, pay a visit to your doctor. However, you must not panic because all those sounds appear when airways are constricted or inflamed. The sounds may be a sign of something easily curable. If the sounds are prolonged then you should visit your doctor for sure. 5. Weight Drop When having lung cancer, you may experience sudden weight drop. This is due to cancer cells using body’s energy that has been obtained from food. 6. Pain in the bones If you are feeling severe pain in the bones or any other part of your back during any time of the day or night, then you need to pay attention to this serious symptom and consult with a doctor. 7. Continuous headache If you are constantly feeling headache then you might be dealing with lung cancer that had spread to the brain. However, headache occurrence may not always be linked with metastases in the brain. This headache may be caused because the lung tumor presses the main vein that transfers blood from the upper part to your heart. How to be able to diagnose lung cancer at early stage? Since x-rays cannot discover lung cancer on time, there are CT scans (computed tomography) which can help in the process of discovering the sneaky disease on time and reducing the possibility of death when dealing with lung cancer. To sum everything up, you should not wait for any kind of sign to occur in order to go to the doctor, make an x-ray or do a CT scan. Any person between 55 and 80 years of age and the ones who have been active smokers in the last 15 years should make the tests as soon as possible in order to prevent lung cancer. Many people notice no symptoms until the cancer has reached an advanced stage; others do have symptoms but, because those symptoms are so vague, mistakenly attribute them to minor illnesses. It is wise, therefore, to learn as much as possible about the signs and symptoms of lung cancer, especially if you smoke or have other risk factors. This guide will help you know what to look for. Atlanta medical malpractice attorney Jeff Dover and Mark Weissinger, M.D., a full-time medical consultant with the Dover Law Firm, discuss radiology errors in diagnosing lung cancer. It is estimated that nearly 220,000 men and women were diagnosed with lung and bronchus cancers in 2009. Based on recent statistics, nearly 7 percent of men and women born today will be diagnosed with lung cancer at some time during their lives. Lung Cancer Signs Part 1 https://www.caring.com/articles/early-warning-signs-of-lung-cancer Many people see a lung cancer diagnosis as a death sentence. That's understandable, since lung cancer kills more than 1.3 million people a year. But when caught early enough, lung cancer can be treatable and, often, curable. According to the National Cancer Institute, the five-year survival rate for lung cancer that hasn't metastasized, or spread, is slightly more than 50 percent, as compared to nearly 4 percent for lung cancer that's already spread to other organ systems. So pay close attention to these early -- and sometimes surprising -- signs of lung cancer, and be assertive about bringing anything suspicious to your doctor's attention Depression or other mood changes Researchers have recently noted a surprising connection between first-time diagnosis of depression, anxiety, and other psychiatric symptoms and lung cancer. In a surprising number of cases, cancer patients -- particularly those with lung cancer -- discover they have a tumor after being referred for psychiatric care. One study that followed more than four million people for ten years, for example, found that when people ages 50 to 64 were referred to a psychiatrist for the first time in their lives, the overall incidence of cancer increased almost fourfold. How it feels: Psychiatric symptoms can take many forms, from the fatigue, lethargy, and low spirits characteristic of depression to racing, panicky thoughts. Irritability, unexplained outbursts of anger, and other personality changes also can indicate psychiatric issues. As one lung cancer patient recalls, "Everything just seemed to get to me." https://fundly.com/lungcancerinwomenfund/ The function of the lung cancer in women fund is to raise awareness of its devastation compared to other forms of cancer, bring attention to causes, provide quality counseling for prevention and treatment, assist in research efforts for cures, etc. There are just too many stories about this awful disease that go unnoticed. Do you know that anyone can get lung cancer without ever smoking cigarettes? The risk of non-smoking lung cancer is higher in women. It is not rare, and besides second hand smoke, being exposed to asbestos, radon gas, certain chemicals and even the air we breathe are some ways which may cause lung cancer. It is factual that lung cancer in women differs from that found in men in many ways. Given the obvious differences in appearance, far too often, women and men are lumped together when talking about lung cancer and this is unfortunate. There are the different causes of lung cancer, varying treatments, the survival rate, a number of symptoms to look for, etc. Please note that lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in women, taking more women's lives every year than ovarian cancer, uterine cancer and even breast cancer.

CBS News, August 22, 2017 According to a report aired by CBS News, there is a new risk for taking vitamins B6 and B12. For people getting an energy boost with vitamin B6 and B12 supplements, new research finds that men may be doubling their risk for lung cancer if they take it over an extended period of time — and tripling it if they smoke. A long-term study followed 77,000 senior adults for over one decade and tracked their intake of vitamin supplements. Men who used high doses of the B6 and B12 supplements for 10 years doubled their risk of lung cancer, while men who were already smokers at the beginning of the study had a threefold to fourfold risk for developing it. The researchers found no such relationship among the women in the study. The study -- published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology -- didn’t examine the biological relationship between the vitamins and lung cancer, says epidemiologist Theodore Brasky. He doesn’t believe that the vitamin B supplements actually caused the cancer. Instead, he suspects that mega doses of the vitamins hasten the growth of lung cells that have already mutated, often due to smoking. His first piece of advice for men who are concerned? Stop smoking. Smoking increases lung cancer risk fifteen- to thirty-fold and it also raises the risk of several other kinds of cancers. But if a man is unwilling or unable to quit, easing off the vitamin B supplements is the next step. “Regardless of how much a person smokes, if a man is taking a high dose of these vitamins, they’re the ones who are at the most risk,” said Brasky, a researcher at the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer center. “If they’re concerned, they should cut back to something like a multivitamin or simply just get their nutrient from diet like they’re probably already doing.” Vitamin B12 can be found in meat, fish, eggs and dairy, while B6 is found in fish, potatoes, non-citrus fruits and organ meats. The recommended daily intake of vitamin B6 for a non-breastfeeding, non-pregnant adult is 1.3 milligrams (there are 1.1 milligrams of B6 in one cup of chickpeas), while that number is 2.4 micrograms for vitamin B12 (there are 5.4 micrograms of B12 in 3 ounces of trout). However, energy boosters that contain these two vitamins often have megadoses of B6 and B12, Brasky said. “If you look at these supplement bottles, they’re being sold in pill form at up to 5,000 micrograms per dose, which is much, much higher than the daily recommended amount,” said Brasky in a statement about his research. While Brasky’s research didn’t explore why women didn’t appear to be affected by the link between the supplements and lung cancer, he did point out that men tend to get tobacco-induced lung cancer more often than women because they smoke more. Perhaps high doses of vitamins B6 and B12 encourage more rapid cancer cell growth in the already-mutated cells of smoking men, he wrote in his study. Alternatively, the male hormone androgen interacts with important enzymes involved in the metabolization of vitamins B6 and B12, which could be an explanation for the more profound effect supplements had on men and their risk of lung cancer. The only reason to take high doses of vitamin B is if you are diagnosed with a deficiency, Brasky said. People who are vegan or who have celiac disease or Crohn’s disease may be advised by their doctor to take more than a regular multivitamin. Sponsored by the Carpal Rx for carpal tunnel syndrome. Purple Carrot Benefits: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HU03lczH6mk Man and Woman Use Carrot Juice to Cure Stage 4 Cancer According to the article, Ann Cameron, an author of 15 children’s books, ‘cured’ her Stage 4 cancer with carrot juice only. On June 6, 2012, Ann had surgery for Stage 3 colon cancer. She had decided against chemotherapy and actually started feeling better, until about November 6, 2012. A routine follow-up CT scan indicated lung cancer. She was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer which had metastasized to the lungs. Her doctor predicted a two to three year life expectancy. Ann came across a man who had treated his cancer with nothing but carrots. His name was Ralph Cole, and he had treated his squamous cell neck cancer by drinking 5 pounds of carrot juice daily. Ralph shared his ‘carrot curing protocol’ freely with anyone who would listen. On November 17, 2012, Ann began a daily regimen of 5 pounds of juiced carrots. By July 30, 2013, CT scanning showed the cancer was gone! All swollen cancerous lymph nodes had returned to normal after eight months of daily heavy carrot juicing, with an occasional day or two off. Falcarinol is an antioxidant found in carrots that has proven anticancer properties. Researchers in the UK and Denmark reduced cancerous tumors by 1/3 in mice and rats with lab induced cancers. Lung cancer is a growth in your lung that can develop for various reasons, the most common being smoking. Lung cancer is one of the most common cancers and leading cause of cancer deaths in both men and women. In the case of women, it kills more women than breast, ovarian and uterine cancers combined. We wend to PIH Health in Whittier, California and spoke to Dr. Daniel Saket who talks about the low dose CT scan for lung cancer screening.

► How to Prevent Lung Cancer ◄ Lung Cancer █ Causes and Solutions ✔ There's no sure way to prevent lung cancer, but you can reduce your risk if you: Don't smoke. If you've never smoked, don't start. Talk to your children about not smoking so that they can understand how to avoid this major risk factor for lung cancer. Begin conversations about the dangers of smoking with your children early so that they know how to react to peer pressure. Stop smoking. Stop smoking now. Quitting reduces your risk of lung cancer, even if you've smoked for years. Talk to your doctor about strategies and stop-smoking aids that can help you quit. Options include nicotine replacement products, medications and support groups. Avoid secondhand smoke. If you live or work with a smoker, urge him or her to quit. At the very least, ask him or her to smoke outside. Avoid areas where people smoke, such as bars and restaurants, and seek out smoke-free options. Test your home for radon. Have the radon levels in your home checked, especially if you live in an area where radon is known to be a problem. High radon levels can be remedied to make your home safer. For information on radon testing, contact your local department of public health or a local chapter of the American Lung Association. Avoid carcinogens at work. Take precautions to protect yourself from exposure to toxic chemicals at work. Follow your employer's precautions. For instance, if you're given a face mask for protection, always wear it. Ask your doctor what more you can do to protect yourself at work. Your risk of lung damage from workplace carcinogens increases if you smoke. Eat a diet full of fruits and vegetables. Choose a healthy diet with a variety of fruits and vegetables. Food sources of vitamins and nutrients are best. Avoid taking large doses of vitamins in pill form, as they may be harmful. For instance, researchers hoping to reduce the risk of lung cancer in heavy smokers gave them beta carotene supplements. Results showed the supplements actually increased the risk of cancer in smokers. Exercise most days of the week. If you don't exercise regularly, start out slowly. Try to exercise most days of the week. ► Related Phrases how to prevent lung cancer - how to prevent lung cancer? lung cancer caused by asbestos :how to prevent asbestos lung cancer. initial symptoms of lung cancer and prevent lung cancer. Cristen explains why male humans' voices generally get lower than female humans' during puberty. Learn more at HowStuffWorks.com: http://health.howstuffworks.com/sexual-health/male-reproductive-system/male-puberty2.htm Share on Facebook: https://goo.gl/HgvFuO Share on Twitter: https://goo.gl/LlTbnC Subscribe: http://goo.gl/ZYI7Gt Visit our site: http://www.brainstuffshow.com Hello, Brainstuff! I’m Cristen, and today we’re going to talk about the human voice. First off, let’s acknowledge that everyone is a special and unique butterknife, and there’s no rule about how men and women’s voices should sound. But on average, adult men’s voices have what’s known as a lower “fundamental frequency” than adult women’s voices. The fundamental frequency is simply the scientific term for how high or low a person’s natural speaking voice is. Sound frequency is measured in hertz, which means how many times something happens in one second. So a sound wave that vibrates 100 times per second produces a tone of 100 hertz. The more cycles per second, the higher the pitch. Babies usually cry at a frequency of around 500 hertz. Children have speaking frequencies in the range of 250 to 400 hertz. By the time of adulthood, however, men have an average fundamental frequency of about 125 hertz, and women about 200 hertz. What happened here? Why the big difference? To understand why men’s voices end up lower than women’s voices, we need to look at how the body produces sound. So let’s take a magical journey to the inside of your neck! Leading from your lungs to the cavity behind your mouth and nose is a pipeline called the trachea. You use it to breathe. At the top of the trachea is a hollow organ called the larynx, or in common parlance, “the voice box.” The larynx is also what allows us to make sound for talking or singing. To do this, you use your lungs to push a column of air through the larynx while using your laryngeal muscles to press together a pair of membranes called the vocal folds, or more commonly, your vocal cords. When you close the vocal folds like this, the air you push out through them makes them vibrate, and this vibration leads to sound. There are several factors that can all have some effect on the fundamental frequency of a person’s voice, like the size of the larynx and differential development of facial bones and cavities in the head, but the most important factor to talk about is the length of the vocal folds. If you pluck a string, the length of the string affects the frequency of the note that plays. Think about a guitar. When you press a string down to a higher fret on a guitar, you shorten the length of the part of the string that vibrates when you pluck it, and this produces a higher note. The same thing happens inside your larynx! The longer the vocal fold, the lower the note. During puberty, both boys and girls experience growth of the vocal folds, leading to lower voices. But the male hormone testosterone, which is released by the testicles during puberty, typically causes boys’ vocal folds to grow longer and thicker than girls’. On average, adult women have vocal folds somewhere around 10 millimeters long, while adult men have focal folds in the neighborhood of 16 millimeters. Consequently, women are up there on the upper frets soloing into oblivion like a high school kid who just learned to play “Eruption” by Van Halen, and men are letting the open strings ring like the intro to “Nothing Else Matters” by Metallica. Y’know? Y’know? Bonus! Everyone knows what happens when you inhale some helium from a party balloon or, you know, straight from an industrial helium transport truck – your voice pitch gets higher. This is because helium is less dense than air. But did you know you can reverse the effect and give yourself a deep, booming bridge-troll-voice by breathing a gas with a higher density than air, like xenon or sulfur hexafluoride? But remember, your body needs air to live, and breathing anything other than air can potentially be dangerous, so we don’t recommend trying this at home. Hi Everyone, This is my first time making a YouTube, I got a bit nervous & emotional but my intent is to give others HOPE, so please overlook my mistakes & delivery. My Story in brief: (Book to follow) Monday 16th December 2013 I had been complaining of a small niggling pain on my left side around my ribs for a few days but nothing too bad. I’d had an hour massage on the previous Friday so I thought that I was just feeling the after effects of that. As the days went on when I took a big deep breath I did have slight pain on my left side. So I got it checked out. On Thursday 19th December 2013 an ED Doctor found a mass on my left lung after a chest X-Ray this was quickly followed by CT with contrast. The ED Doctor came out & motioned for us to come into her office & sit down not saying a word. She opened the conversation with I’m so very sorry…..what?? I’m so very sorry. There appears to be a sizable mass in your left lung – what? What is it? Have you ever smoked? What? No? Never! The look on the Doctors face said it all. There seemed to be silence, just her looking at me & time seemed to be slowed down somehow. She kept saying sorry, sorry to give you this news so close to Christmas. What? She said she has contacted a Respiratory Registrar to come down to see me to book in for a biopsy of the mass. My head was spinning! I recall saying a number of times, what? No? What? I don’t smoke, I never have, what? Well we can remove it right? What? It’s like I could hear myself saying the same thing over & over but I couldn’t stop. But I’m so healthy. What? No? It really did feel like she was talking about someone else. It didn’t feel real. I was thinking to myself, it will be fine, Doctors will operate & take it out somehow, and it will be fine. But it wasn’t fine. After several attempts to biopsy the tumour, finally on Monday 13th January 2014 the Doctors were able to get a sample via a CT guided chest/lung biopsy through my back. The X-Ray taken 4 hours after to check the lung, showed a minor haemorrhage around the left lung mass & as a bonus they managed to give me a pneumothorax (partially collapsed lung). Wednesday 15th January we got the results, Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (adenocarcinoma) & a PET SCAN was booked to see if it had spread. As I was a non-smoker the Doctors were convinced that the lung would not be my primary. Friday 17th January 2014 – PET SCAN. The lung was the primary, 5cm mass, 2 lymph nodes in the chest & one in the base of the neck, fluid around my heart, and cancer in the pleura or lining of the lung. The Doctors told me as it had spread to the lining of my lung & lymph nodes they classified me as stage IV Terminal Lung Cancer with a prognosis of 6-9mth to live. Thursday 30th January 2014 1st chemo (5hrs) Thursday 6th February 2014 2nd Chemo (1hour) Friday 14th February 2014 we found out that the biopsy taken was EGFR positive mutation, so no more chemo, yah! Thursday 20th February 2014 start TARCEVA 150mg tablets (Erlotinib) Tuesday 25th February 2014 start juicing heaps of fresh cannabis leaves Wednesday 26th February 2014 my Husband cooked 1st batch of cannabis oil Sunday 20th April 2014 my Husband cooked 2nd batch of cannabis oil Tuesday 22nd April 2014 we received cannabis oil from an experienced Medical Cannabis activist that was prepared to help Tuesday 20th May 2014 we started experimenting with suppositories & eventually by mixing .5ml of organic coconut oil with .5ml cannabis oil in a 1ml syringe just straight up & in we call it ‘the backdoor method’. I believe that this was our break through & also with this method I experienced no ‘high’ & was able to have the full 1ml of cannabis oil per day as what was recommended for an aggressive cancer. Wednesday 3rd September 2014 PET scan Conclusion: complete metabolic response. Women smokers face a 25% higher risk of heart disease compared to men who smoked and had twice the lung cancer than men smokers. This conclusion is derived from the results of a meta-analysis of 86 international studies involving 2.4 million people added to evidence that the health of poor women affected by smoke. Last evaluation examined 75 sets of data, including 67,000 cases of heart disease, including heart attacks. This figure shows an increase of two percent per year, which means that the longer a woman smokes, the higher the risk of heart disease compared to men who smoke in the same timeframe. The first study, published online by The Lancet medical journal, conducted by Dr Rachel Huxley of the University of Minnesota and Dr. Mark Woodward of Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore. Increased risk is greater in women than men, perhaps because of physiological differences between them. Weight and smaller blood vessels is a key factor, the researchers said. For example, women may absorb toxins in quantities greater than the same number of cigarettes than men. A greater quantity of carcinogens and other toxic agents from the same number of cigarettes than men. This incident could explain why women who smoke are twice as likely to develop lung cancer than men, adds the researcher. Amanda Sandford, research manager group antismoking, Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) said: "We know that women smokers are more at risk of developing lung cancer, but this is the first time there is evidence that women smokers are also more likely to suffer from heart disease than men. " Dr Tony Falconer, President of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) said the risk of the woman due to not only stop smoking to heart disease and lung cancer. During pregnancy, smoking can lead to low birth weight, increased risk of premature delivery or stillbirth. "As doctors, we are particularly concerned with young people, who easily persuaded by advertising and social pressure. We need to support and assist women to live healthy and include quitting smoking," said Falconer. Ellen Mason, senior nurse for cardiac patients at the British Heart Foundation, said, "It is alarming to know there is a large study confirms that women are much more at risk of heart disease from smoking than men." https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqJkZMMB9hZ09iYfZn7AJ9w

The number of women undergoing lung cancer surgery in Australia is escalating faster than that of men, reflecting the tobacco industry's aggressive marketing of feminised "slim" and "light" products in the 1980s and '90s. Health experts say this trend serves as a warning to young women who, alarmingly, are smoking more and smoking their first full cigarette at a younger age, compared to young men. 👉 https://goo.gl/rTB8a | Beauty As Italy is a leading beauty page in Vietnam, combining beauty tips, hair care tips, skin whitening methods, weight loss, melasma treatment, acne treatment, and beautiful body beauty care. ---------------------------------------------- --------------------------------- ☛ Follow Beautiful Channels: 💕 Facebook: 💕 Google +: https://goo.gl/dj4BxV ---------------------------------------------- --------------------------------- ☛Video may use copyrighted content based on fair use fair use laws (https://www.youtube.com/yt/copyright/en/fair-use.html) ☛ For any violation of community guidelines or copyright law, please contact us by mail: Beautiful Channels: We are looking forward to cooperate with cosmetic companies, Spa, Beauty Salon, Hair Salon, Massage to carry out advertising cooperation, free marketing under the motto of mutual benefit. ---------------------------------------------- --------------------------------- Category: Beauty like Italy & Beauty expert Copyright © 2017 BEAUTIFUL AS Channel. Executive Summary Today, over 13.5 million individuals are eligible for lung cancer screening in the US. The risk of lung cancer development is 1 in 15 for men and 1 in 17 for women. Health insurance may help cover the high cost of lung cancer screening for eligible patients. The current standards for lung cancer screening are CT scans and x-ray imaging that expose patients to harmful radiation. Here at AeroScreen Diagnostics, we are developing a device that can screen for early stage lung cancer through a non-invasive analysis of exhaled breath condensate. This technology was developed and patented by University of Maryland, and new application patents are pending for design improvements. The technology method collects, condenses, and amplifies exhaled breath to assess biomarker signals. Initial proof of concept studies to detect biomarkers in influenza infections were completed last year. AeroScreen’s vision is to utilize this platform technology for the diagnosis and management of respiratory diseases and infections. Our first milestone is to license the technology to initiate a small proof of concept clinical trial with lung cancer patients to assess biomarker detection and sensitivity, following the FDA 510(k) regulatory pathway for market approval. We estimate to initiate feasibility and reproducibility studies by 2019, which requires an initial investment of $1.5 million. Our goals are to sell and distribute the device to hospitals and primary healthcare clinics. Experienced team members integrate AeroScreen Diagnostics with access to accomplished advisors from healthcare organizations and the diagnostic industry. We are committed to providing a cost- effective, routine screening tool for lung cancer.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The best way to catch lung cancer early is through early detection, says Dr. David Carbone, Director of the James Thoracic Center at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center -- Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC- James). Lung cancer is the number one killer of both men and women in the United States, killing more people than colon, breast and prostate cancers combined. This year alone, more than 226,000 men and women in the United States will be diagnosed with lung cancer, and 160,000 will die from the disease. Other major cancer killers -- for example breast and colon -- each have accepted screening strategies -- mammograms and colonoscopies -- for early detection. "Until recently, there was really no early detection test for lung cancer proven to reduce deaths from this disease," Carbone says. "Unfortunately, without screening, most cases of lung cancer are diagnosed when they have already spread to other parts of the body and are incurable." The National Lung Screening Trial -- a major study of heavy smokers -- compared computed tomography (CT) scans and chest X-rays and showed that having a lung CT scan significantly lowered the risk of dying of lung cancer. Based on these findings, OSUCCC -- James now provides lung cancer screenings to those at high risk of developing lung cancer. The screenings, which involve one low-dose CT scan each year for a three-year period, are available from 4-6 p.m. every other Monday on the second floor of the Martha Morehouse Medical Pavilion, 2050 Kenny Road. Each scan will cost $99. To qualify for the screenings, participants must be 55-74 years old, be a current smoker with a history of smoking two packs per day for 15 years or one pack per day for 30 years, or be an ex-smoker who has quit within the past 15 years. "Even better than early detection of lung cancer is preventing it in the first place, so smoking cessation is clearly important and is an integral part of our screening program," Carbone says. "However, CT screening is not perfect as there are many people who develop lung cancer who never smoked and these cancers would not be detected by these screening CT's so further work needs to be done to prevent lung cancer in these people and to detect it early." The National Lung Screening Trial showed a 20 percent reduction in lung cancer mortality, says Dr. Patrick Nana-Sinkam, pulmonologist at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and part of the multi-disciplinary lung cancer team at Ohio State's Comprehensive Cancer Center -- James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute. "Our lung cancer screening program provides results to the patient within a few minutes," says Nana-Sinkam. "The main goal is to look for asymptomatic spots on the lung. About 80 percent of lung cancers are smoking-related, which is why this group is targeted to have these early screenings, before the lung cancer is advanced." To schedule a screening, call The James Line at (800) 293-5066. The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center -- Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute strives to create a cancer-free world by integrating scientific research with excellence in education and patient-centered care, a strategy that leads to better methods of prevention, detection and treatment. Ohio State is one of only 41 National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers and one of only seven centers funded by the NCI to conduct both phase I and phase II clinical trials. The NCI recently rated Ohio State's cancer program as "exceptional," the highest rating given by NCI survey teams. As the cancer program's 228-bed adult patient-care component, The James is a "Top Hospital" as named by the Leapfrog Group and one of the top cancer hospitals in the nation as ranked by U.S. News & World Report.
