Doctrine Knowing the Truth and Acting On It What are the essential beliefs of Christianity? We will all face times where our faith will be challenged either by other people or by difficult circumstances. That's why it's critical that we have a foundational knowledge of the core beliefs of Christianity and a willing heart to obey God. In these seven dynamic sessions, students share real-life stories about their own struggles with living out the essentials of their faith on a daily basis. Communism & The Church | Venerable Archbishop Fulton Sheen | Catholic Podcast

26:37
The Catholic Church, also known as the Roman Catholic Church, is the largest Christian church, with more than 1.29 billion members worldwide.[4] As one of the oldest religious institutions in the world, it has played a prominent role in the history and development of Western civilisation.[5] Headed by the Bishop of Rome, known as the Pope, the church's doctrines are summarised in the Nicene Creed. Its central administration, the Holy See, is in the Vatican City, an enclave within Rome, Italy. The Catholic Church teaches that it is the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic church founded by Jesus Christ,[6][7][note 1] that its bishops are the successors of Christ's apostles, and that the Pope is the successor to Saint Peter to whom primacy was conferred by Jesus Christ.[10] It maintains that it practises the original Christian faith, reserving infallibility, passed down by sacred tradition.[11] The Latin Church, the Eastern Catholic Churches, and institutes such as mendicant orders and enclosed monastic orders reflect a variety of theological and spiritual emphases in the Church.[12][13] Of its seven sacraments the Eucharist is the principal one, celebrated liturgically in the Mass.[14] The church teaches that through consecration by a priest the sacrificial bread and wine become the body and blood of Christ. The Virgin Mary is venerated in the Catholic Church as Mother of God and Queen of Heaven, honoured in dogmas and devotions.[15] Its teaching includes sanctification through faith and evangelisation of the Gospel and Catholic social teaching, which emphasises support for the sick, the poor, and the afflicted through the corporal and spiritual works of mercy. The Catholic Church is the largest non-government provider of education and health care in the world. Venerable Fulton John Sheen (born Peter John Sheen, May 8, 1895 – December 9, 1979) was an American bishop (later archbishop) of the Catholic Church known for his preaching and especially his work on television and radio. The cause for his canonization as a saint was officially opened in 2002. In June 2012, Pope Benedict XVI officially recognized a decree from the Congregation for the Causes of Saints stating that he lived a life of "heroic virtues" – a major step towards beatification – so he is now referred to as "Venerable."[2][3] Ordained a priest of the Diocese of Peoria in 1919,[1] Sheen quickly became a renowned theologian, earning the Cardinal Mercier Prize for International Philosophy in 1923. He went on to teach theology and philosophy at the Catholic University of America as well as acting as a parish priest before being appointed Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of New York in 1951. He held this position until 1966 when he was made the Bishop of Rochester from October 21, 1966, to October 6, 1969, when he resigned[4] and was made the Archbishop of the titular see of Newport, Wales. For 20 years as Father Sheen, later Monsignor, he hosted the night-time radio program The Catholic Hour on NBC (1930–1950) before moving to television and presenting Life Is Worth Living (1951–1957). Sheen's final presenting role was on the syndicated The Fulton Sheen Program (1961–1968) with a format very similar to that of the earlier Life is Worth Living show. For this work, Sheen twice won an Emmy Award for Most Outstanding Television Personality, and was featured on the cover of Time Magazine.[5] Starting in 2009, his shows were being re-broadcast on the EWTN and the Trinity Broadcasting Network's Church Channel cable networks.[6] Due to his contribution to televised preaching Sheen is often referred to as one of the first televangelists.

President Obama won, the Constitution lost

04:49
The Obama regime recently decreed through the recently passed Obamacare (national healthcare legislation) that Catholic institutions would to have to pay for birth control, contraceptives, and other medical procedures that run against Catholic doctrine, Catholic teaching. What happened to "separation of church and state?" To liberals and Democrats that means religion should stay out of the state's business however the state is allowed to insert itself into church business. What is more amazing is the Catholic Church's response to this unconstitutional infringement by President Obama (Democrat). After a national uproar President Obama changed the decree, decreeing the institutions would not have to pay however the health insurance companies will have to pay for the services. Huh? Is it constitutional for a President to tell institutions what services they must provide and pay for? No. Is it constitutional for a President to tell insurance companies what services they must pay for? No. The president has no such authority and violated the Constitution and his oath of office. Is it impeachment time? What a joke, not with this spineless Congress. The president's supporters are saying his decrees fall under Obamacare as "preventative care." Meaning having a baby is a disease to these mindless drones. Saint Thomas Health Hosts First-Ever Free Health Care Clinic in Warren County

02:04
Saint Thomas Health hosted a free healthcare clinic in McMinnville, Tenn. as part of its commitment to serve the poor and vulnerable in Middle Tennessee. More than 350 residents in and around Warren County showed up to receive care. Saint Thomas Health has hosted more than 30 free healthcare clinics over the years, but this is the first one in Warren County. The event, which was open to the public, was at Warren County High School on 199 Pioneer Lane, Saturday, June 10 from 8am-2pm (see pictures below). Saint Thomas Health, a part of Ascension, the nation’s largest Catholic and non-profit health system, partnered with locally-based agencies to provide medical, dental and vision care for low-income uninsured or underinsured individuals. “It’s a blessing for us to be able to give and we hope a blessing for the patients to have access to care and access to community resources and clinics to receive ongoing care,” said Karen Springer, president and CEO, Saint Thomas Health. A Day of Hope, Health and Healing consisted of more than 200 volunteers from Saint Thomas Health, including physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, chaplains, senior leadership and other hospital staff, providing healthcare screenings and medical care for those most in need. Pharmacy services, including select prescription medications, were provided by the Dispensary of Hope. Dental services (on-site fillings and extractions) were offered by Hope Smiles, a non-profit organization. Other services included free primary and specialty healthcare services, such as mammograms, vision services, foot and wound care, and behavioral medicine. “It’s a part of who we are and we’ve been called to help those who are poor and vulnerable and when you look at those coming in for care today, they are so appreciative,” said Gordon Ferguson, president of Saint Thomas River Park, Saint Thomas Stones River, Saint Thomas DeKalb and Saint Thomas Highlands. “This is really the hands and feet of our faith-based ministry in action in the community with all of us together helping those who need it most,” said Kathy Ferrell, Manager, Community Health and Benefit, Saint Thomas Rutherford and the Regional Hospitals. The Ascension Medical Mission at Home is part of a national effort by Ascension and its caregivers to host similar events across the country. To date, Medical Mission at Home events have been held in Tennessee, Washington D.C., New York, Alabama, Florida, Connecticut, Indiana and Texas, and plans to expand to other markets in the coming months to meet individual and community health needs. www.sthealth.com/medicalmission www.sthealthbeat.com

Why Addiction Keeps Pulling Me Back | Op-Docs

16:27
This week’s Op-Doc is Paul Szynol’s “The Pull,” a searing exploration of the inner life of John Bixby, a New Hampshire man struggling with drug addiction. Beginning just before Bixby’s release from jail, the film follows his lonely journey across the ghostly landscape of New England’s opioid crisis. As Szynol writes, Bixby’s story is “an agonizing battle between his desire to use and his stiff but weakening resolve to stay clean.” The result is a lyrical tale of hope and disappointment, told without judgment, with glimpses of astonishing vulnerability. Video # 2 TCC vigil candlelight1.wmv

05:48
Candlelight Vigil for Safe RN Staffing at Terence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center New York City == Community members and the registered nurses of Terence Cardinal Cooke Medical Center (TCC) held a candlelight vigil on Wednesday, Nov. 5, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. to protest proposed cuts in nursing positions. The vigil was held outside the hospital on Central Park East (Fifth Avenue) between 105th and 106th Streets. The facility is planning on eliminating numerous RN positions, leaving very fragile patients with fewer skilled nurses to care for them. TCC plans to replace the RNs with LPNs, who by law cannot assess the condition of patients, develop and adjust nursing care plans, administer certain treatments and medications, or function independently of an RN or other authorized professional. Many TCC patients require the level of care that only a registered nurse can provide, Christina Terranova, RN, New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) nursing representative We are concerned that this could be the first phase in a long-term plan to replace RNs with LPNs, to the danger of the patients we serve. TCC is a long-term care facility treating patients with Alzheimers, Parkinsons Disease, AIDS, and Huntingtons Disease; and also children and adults with severe developmental disabilities. BSN Headline News for May 16, 2016

08:45
Today's top story is Co-Creating Healthy Communities. Bon Secours' Strategic Quality Plan has 4 goals. One of those goals is Co-Create Healthy Communities. But how do we do that? Well, before we go there let's take a look at how Bon Secours describes this goal. Our Strategic Quality Plan or SQP states, "We recognize that the factors which drive health outcomes extend well beyond the scope of traditional health care services. Thus, we commit to improve the health of our communities through partnership and collaboration with a broad range of constituencies including committed community residents." And this is not a new idea but a continuation of previous SQP goals...it's that important for Bon Secours. So when we look at Co-Creating Healthy Communities we think of community benefit. And when we think of community benefit we think of community health benefit services including -improving access to health care services -enhancing the health of the community -advancing medical or health care knowledge, or maybe -relieving a government burden Listen to this...in fiscal year 2015, Bon Secours Health System provided over $260 million in community benefit services and community building activities. and here are some examples... •Bon Secours Baltimore’s Community Works Family Support Center, Community Works Family Support Center offers Early Head Start services, support and resources to pregnant mothers and families with children up to age three. •Bon Secours Hampton Roads’ Care-A-Van mobile clinic, The Care-A-Van mobile clinic delivers free primary medical care. •Bon Secours Kentucky’s Bicycle Safety Camp, Bicycle Safety Camp teaches children ages 5 to 12 balance skills, bicycle handling, safety prior to riding and rules of the road. •Bon Secours New York’s Healthy Communities, Bon Secours New York’s Healthy Communities addresses issues of food justice, access and education through a network of community and advocacy partners. By the way, the Schervier Community Garden is celebrating 10 years of organic gardening in the Bronx this month. •Bon Secours Richmond’s Controlling Asthma in the Richmond Metropolitan Area or CARMA, CARMA coordinates asthma care and provides asthma education for children ages 2 to 18 and their families. •Bon Secours St. Francis’ Super Saints program, Super Saints encourages employees to share time, compassion, and service with local, underprivileged children. •Bon Secours St. Petersburg’s support group for caregivers of loved ones with dementia. •Roper St. Francis’ Families for a Healthy Heart, Families for a Healthy Heart teaches easy and fun ways to be healthy and active. With Fiscal Year 2016 well under way you can bet that Bon Secours is continuing that tradition of building healthy communities and being good help to those in need. In other news, this May Bon Secours Ministries celebrates 10 years of service as the sponsor of Bon Secours Health System. And we are celebrating all month long with stories about Bon Secours Ministries and the Bon Secours Ministries Directional Statement. Today we thought we would ask the question, "How does the Bon Secours Directional Statement address and support healthy communities?" Here are some of the responses we got from Bon Secours leaders including Bon Secours Ministries. .......................BSM clips............................ Bon Secours Ministries celebrating 10 years of following our tradition of being good help to those in need. Finally, Toni Ardabell has been named Chief Executive officer of Bon Secours Virginia Health System. For those of you who don't know, Bon Secours Virginia Health System is a $2.1 billion health system with eight acute care hospitals in Richmond and Hampton Roads. Bon Secours Virginia Health system is the only Catholic health system in Virginia. Its eight acute care hospitals include St. Mary's Hospital, Memorial Regional Medical center, Richmond Community Hospital, St. Francis Medical Center, and Rappahannock General Hospital in Richmond... And Depaul Medical Center, Maryview Medical Center, and Mary Immaculate Hospital in Hampton Roads.

Pres. Moon's health care reform ignites various responses in and out of medical field

04:39
2022년까지 비급여를 급여화... '문제인케어' 올해 하반기부터 적용 President Moon Jae-in's health care reform plan is designed to enable national insurance to cover ALL treatments... excluding cosmetic procedures. It's an extremely ambitious goal,... but how feasible is it? Oh Jung-hee reports on how it's being received by doctors and patients. President Moon Jae-in introduced his ambitious health care reform plan early this month. (Korean) August 9, 2017 "From the latter half of this year until 2022, I will make a country where every single person is free from medical expense concerns and is treated of any disease without any worries." ( 2022 , .) The ultimate aim is to have no medical treatment left uncovered by the national health insurance... except for some cosmetic procedures. The national health insurance will start covering a number of services patients had to pay 100-percent for -- like MRI scans, ultrasounds, and robotic surgery. The government will also cap medical spending based on households' yearly earnings... with the national insurance agency bearing the extra amount. The government plans to pour 30-point-6 trillion won, or 27 billion U.S. dollars, into this,... with the money coming from the accumulated profits of national health insurance and the government budget. While this is expected to cut average medical expenditure by 18-percent... and for low-incomers, by 46-percent,... it will also raise Korea's national health insurance coverage rate to 70-percent by 2022 from the current 63-point-2 percent. Korean households bear almost 37-percent of their medical expenses... the second highest in the OECD, following Mexico. The OECD average stands a bit below 20-percent. (Korean) "The national health insurance covering ALL medical treatments... sets a foundation for the government to prevent excessive spending on medical care. The public sector can set the prices for treatments and monitor if they're carried out properly." (Stand-up) "Among those who welcome the government's new policies is the field of Korean traditional medicine... where many treatments weren’t previously covered by the health insurance system. They say the new policies could raise demand for their treatments." The current insurance covers Korean traditional medical treatment by 35-percent in large hospitals and by 47-percent in small clinics. Expanded coverage will make treatment affordable for more patients... as seen through the government's trial program for traditional therapeutic massages, known as 'chuna'. Costs fell from the 26 to 80 dollar range to the 4 to 10 dollar range... and the clinic here has been seeing more patients. (Korean) "Korean medicine is very effective in curing scoliosis, disc diseases, arthritis and menstrual pains... but patients looked for other options because of the financial burden. So we've been voicing opinions that health insurance should expand coverage of our treatment." (Korean) "After a traffic accident, I first received treatment at Korean traditional clinics, but stopped later because of the high cost. But, thanks to the test program, I could receive treatment again at a lower price and I'm very happy about it." Korea's dental field also welcomed the move, saying a wider range of people can receive dentures and dental implants. But hospitals are concerned that lower medical bills could make it hard to manage hospitals and provide quality care. (Korean) "It's true that hospitals have been seeing losses in treatments that national insurance covers... and they've been making up for that loss through charging for treatments that national insurance doesn't cover. So, the government will continue communicating with the medical field and make sure to set appropriate prices for treatments." Also, the health care reform could result hurting small clinics. (Korean) "Patients don't really go to large hospitals due to the high cost, but as the national health care expands coverage for all treatments, patients will start to prefer large hospitals over small clinics. The government seems to know this, but a detailed plan on this part isn't yet given." Many people welcome the proposed changes as Korean healthcare hasn't been reformed for decades. But with some critics saying the target coverage rate of 70-percent is still lower than desired... the government has lots to do to tweak the reform and turn it into reality. Catholic hospital upset over Obama's Health Care, exposes their hypocrisy

An article appearing in The Dallas Morning News from The Associated Press, headlined: "Birth Control P Provision upsets Catholic hospitals." Per the article Catholic hospitals are upset with President Obama's health care law because it may require them to provide birth control free to their employees. This is pure hypocrisy from these Catholic hospitals. Prior to the legislation being passed, this group came out in favor of Obama's Healthcare knowing it would favor abortions in total conflict with Catholic doctrine. Now that is has been exposed it may cost these hospitals money, they care crying about it. These Catholic hospitals supported this legislation, now they must live with what they supported. Sister Margaret gives back to the community, helps spread mission of Fidelis Care

STORIES FROM THE HEART is a weekly series on the PIX11 News at 6 presented by Fidelis Care. Go to PIX11.com/Heart to submit your story of someone who has impacted your life and why you want to say thank you -- from one heart to another. ----- Sister Margaret Smyth is a welcomed face at St. John the Evangelist in Riverhead. She gets food to families who need it. "It’s much more of a challenge if you don’t have access to insurance," she said while speaking to a woman. "God gave the gift of getting the Fidelis insurance." She also gets people medical attention with the help of Fidelis Care. "Fidelis Care provides healthcare to more than 1.3 million people in New York and we have programs for children all the way through folks with Medicare," Lori Vavrinec, Fidelis Care Marketing Director. "Our focus has always been on finding people the care that they need in a caring and compassionate way. We're really mission-based company so our focus is really on the individual, taking the time to sit down with them, understand what their needs are and finding a plan that works best for them." Lori Vavrinec is the Fidelis Care Marketing Director and we caught up with her in one of their community offices in Queens. "Its all about being in the community, we have offices throughout New York, in fact we have 16 offices throughout New York state and each office is staffed with representatives that speak the language that are predominant in that community." "One of our biggest things is health and we get a lot of immigrants and immigrants back in their countries had little access to healthcare," Sister Margaret Smyth said. "It takes time to build trust and you build trust when you're able to relate to the person so to be able to come here and meet with representatives from Fidleis who can speak to people in their own language creates an immediate bonding." And why they can be found in so many communities...? "We really want to be able to talk to the people in a language that they understand and we want to be able to connect them to resources in the community to help them and we really focus in on the individual regardless of age or income," Vavrinec explained. "We want to make sure everyone is treated in a caring compassionate way, and that really is the mission."

Staten Island principal busted for role in auto insurance scam - Daily News

04:38
Staten Island principal busted for role in auto insurance scam - Daily News #StatenIsland, #principal, #busted, #role, #auto, #insurance, #scam  A Staten Island principal has been arrested and charged with felony insurance fraud for registering her luxury cars at the Pennsylvania home of a city vendor, a scheme first exposed by The Post.  Oneatha Swinton, the interim acting principal of Port Richmond HS, was charged with four counts of insurance fraud, theft by deception and criminal conspiracy by the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office.  In addition, Tanya John, a former city principal, was charged with insurance fraud and conspiracy for allegedly helping Swinton get cheaper car insurance, the office announced.  Since the Post reported the alleged scheme last November, Port Richmond parents, staffers and students have complained about her management. On Friday, a group of school leaders sent a letter to Chancellor Richard Carranza demanding her “immediate removal.”  Swinton, 39, lives and works on Staten Island, but in 2014 obtained a Pennsylvania driver’s license and registered a Lexus SUV, later replaced with newer model Lexus, using John’s East Stroudsburg, PA, address, the criminal complaint states.  The complaint says Swinton saved about $3,000 in car insurance premiums, because rates are much steeper in NYC than in rural East Stroudsburg. In addition, she filed two claims for damages in New York, costing the insurer $2, 247.  John, 44, was CEO of Feetz LLC, which was hired by Swinton to tutor students and run “character development” programs. Feetz has collected at least $1.3 million from DOE schools since 2012.  “These two defendants concocted a plan to fraudulently obtain lower insurance rates,” Pennsylvania AG Josh Shapiro said in a press release. “When people commit insurance fraud, it causes premiums to rise for the folks who follow the rules. ”  Swinton and John turned themselves in and appeared in Monroe County court on Thursday. Both were released on $5,000 bail, pending a preliminary hearing scheduled for Aug. 15.  Swinton, confronted by a Post reporter at the school Friday, refused to comment. John, reached by phone, also refused to comment.  Investigators with the Pennsylvania AG found that John put her energy bill in Swinton’s name for three months, from April to June 2014, so Swinton could show it as proof of residency to obtain a driver’s license. see also HS principal could be saving thousands thanks to shady relationship A controversial principal’s cozy relationship with a city vendor could...  Swinton then bought car insurance using her fraudulent Pennsylvania license and registration, the AG says. She later filed two claims for losses in New York City, with repairs done in Brooklyn.  In the first claim, on Sept. 13, 2016, Swinton reported her car was struck in a hit-and-run fender-bender while it was parked near her Staten Island home. In the second claim, on Sept. 26, 2016, Swinton reported that her car was vandalized in Brooklyn –“keyed” on the driver’s side and a mirror damaged.  When Swinton learned of the AG investigation in

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton HD

03:05
Elizabeth Ann Bayley Seton was the first native born American to be canonized by the Catholic Church. Born two years before the American Revolution, Elizabeth grew up in the upper class of New York society. She was a prolific reader, and read everything from the Bible to contemporary novels. In spite of her high society background, Elizabeth's early life was quiet, simple, and often lonely. As she grew a little older, the Bible was to become her continual instruction, support and comfort -and she would continue to love the Scriptures for the rest of her life. In 1794, Elizabeth married the wealthy young William Seton, with whom she was deeply in love. The first years of their marriage were happy and prosperous. Elizabeth wrote in her diary at first autumn, "My own home at twenty-the world-that and heaven too-quite impossible." This time of Elizabeth's life was to be a brief moment of earthly happiness before the many deaths and partings she was to suffer. Within four years, William's father died, leaving the young couple in charge of William's seven half brothers and sisters, as well as the family's importing business. Events moved quickly from there with devastating effect. Both William's business and health failed. He was finally forced to file a petition of bankruptcy and, in a final attempt to save William's health, the Setons sailed for Italy, where William had business friends. Unfortunately, William died of tuberculosis while in Italy. Elizabeth's one consolation was that he had recently awakened to the things of God. The many enforced separations from dear ones by death and distance served to draw Elizabeth's heart to God and eternity. The accepting and embracing of God's will - "The Will," as she called it - would be a keynote in her spiritual life. Elizabeth's deep concern for the spiritual welfare of her family and friends eventually led her into the Catholic Church. In Italy, Elizabeth captivated everyone by her kindness, patience, good sense, wit, and courtesy. During this time Elizabeth became interested in the Catholic Faith and, over a period of months, her Italian friends guided her in Catholic instruction. Elizabeth's desire for the Bread of Life was to be a strong force leading her to the Catholic Church. Having lost her mother at an early age, Elizabeth felt great comfort in the idea that the Blessed Virgin was truly her mother. She asked the Blessed Virgin to guide her to the True Faith and officially joined the Catholic Church in 1805. At the suggestion of the president of St. Mary's College in Baltimore, Maryland, Elizabeth started a school in that city. The school had originally been secular but once news of her entrance to Catholocism spread, several girls were removed from her school. It was then Seton, and two other young women who helped her in her work, began plans for a Sisterhood. They established the first free Catholic school in America. When the young community adopted their rule, they made provisions for Elizabeth to continue raising her children. On March 25, 1809, Elizabeth Seton pronounced her vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience, binding for one year. From that time she was called Mother Seton. Although Mother Seton became afflicted with tuberculosis, she continued to guide her children. The Rule of the Sisterhood was formally ratified in 1812. It was based upon the Rule St. Vincent de Paul had written for his Daughters of Charity in France. By 1818, in addition to their first school, the sisters had established two orphanages and another school. Today, six groups of sisters can trace their origins to Mother Seton's initial foundation. Seton's favorite prayer was the 23rd Psalm and she developed a deep devotion to the Eucharist, Sacred Scripture, and the Virgin Mary. For the last three years of her life, Elizabeth felt that God was getting ready to call her, and this gave her great joy. Mother Seton died in 1821 at the age of 46, only sixteen years after becoming a Catholic. She was beatified by Pope John XXIII on March 17, 1963 and was canonized canonized on September 14, 1975 by Pope Paul VI. The Patient Physician Relationship Under ObamaCare

49:19
AAPS Capitol Hill Briefing: March 27, 2014 Currently there is a lot of discussion regarding health care exchanges and access to insurance. However, insurance is not care. Even if the exchanges are eventually fixed, they cannot assure access to care. Well before Obamacare the government had forced its way into the patient-physician relationship. Now, the government is looking to dominate the relationship. AAPS members have long fought this invasion and taken their stand for patients' freedom of choice. We invite you to listen to three doctors and hear about their daily interactions with the government from three different points of view: a teaching hospital, a family practice (and charity clinic), and an internal medicine practice that is fully independent of all government programs and third party payers. The patient-physician relationship needs to be a top priority no matter what side of the aisle you are on. Room: 2325 Rayburn House Office Building When: 3:00-4:00pm RSVP: aaps@aapsonline.org Featuring: Dr. Jane Orient Jane M. She is the author of YOUR Doctor Is Not In: Healthy Skepticism about National Healthcare, Sutton's Law (a novel about where the money is in medicine today), and the second through fourth editions of Sapira's Art and Science of Bedside Diagnosis.
