Say NO to Root Canals - Damaging to your Health
One of the biggest medical cover-ups in history involves root canals. The biggest mistake I ever made with my own health was listening to a dentist who told me I needed a root canal. This damaged my immune system for years. It also set me on a search which lasted more than a decade to figure out why, as a result of allowing a root canal into my mouth, the health of my whole body was damaged. Here’s what you need to know: Root canal procedures are not safe. And the irony of it all is that your dentist probably doesn’t even know this. The American Dental Association—together with most dental colleges around the world—has been denying the dangers implicit in root canal procedures for generations. Way back in the 1920s, world-renowned dentist and dental researcher Weston A. Price carried out exhaustive studies on the fundamentals of dental infections and how they can cause systemic bodily infections and degenerative diseases. After years of study, Price reported that he was never able to find one root canal-treated tooth that did not eventually become seriously infected. Since then, exhaustive research by other cutting-edge dentists, who have been courageous enough not to buy into the official party line, has confirmed Price’s findings again and again. All root canal teeth are completely dead. And no dead tissue should ever be left in your body. Would a surgeon removing a necrotic organ in your body leave pieces of it in your tissues? Absolutely not! Yet this is exactly what takes place in a root canal. When a dead tooth is sealed, the environment becomes anaerobic. Bacteria can then morph into their anaerobic forms and reproduce prolifically within the dentine, creating noxious toxins. You see, a root canal is an ideal medium for this to take place by supplying warmth, nutrients, and water. The immune system is unable to deal with the problem because the dead tooth has no blood supply. Yet most, if not all, dentists still believe that leaving a dead root canal tooth stuck into your jaw will cause no problem. And this is exactly what endodontists—dentists highly-trained as root canal specialists—do. They clear out all blood vessels, connective tissue, and infected nerves from your tooth’s pulp chamber. Then they widen and reshape it in preparation to receive the filler substance, which is often gutta-percha. By doing this, they are attempting to create sterility. But here’s the rub: No amount of medication used in an attempt to sterilize these tubules has ever shown itself capable of accomplishing this. There is simply no way of eliminating bacteria hidden in the tubules. They can harbor masses of bacteria and diseased tissue. And, since the tooth is completely dead—nothing more than a moribund hunk of material—your jaw becomes the ideal place for toxic by-products to be produced. Because a dead tooth’s blood supply and oxygen supply no longer exist, bacteria present in the space between the upper gum and the crown of the tooth can easily make their way into the porous dentine tubules, not only infecting the area around the dead tooth but your gums as well, causing gingivitis and then periodontitis. Fair warning. But root canal procedures are great money-makers. Each year, endodontists in the Western world carry out a mind-boggling 30 to 40 million root canal procedures. I found out about all this the hard way when I came to experience for myself just how devastating the seepage of pathogenic and poisonous by-products can be. So here’s the bottom line: Refuse to accept what you are told about how safe root canals are supposed to be, regardless of how nice your dentist is. Carry out your own research. Discover first-hand the truth behind the root canal cover-up. It could change your health and your whole life for the better. Read some of the books I have listed below. Complex Hernia Repair | Hernia Program at Penn Medicine
John P. Fischer, MD, Plastic Surgeon and Co-Director of Penn Medicine's Hernia Program describes a complex case treating a patient experiencing large lower abdominal hernia recurrence, post-colectomy. When he first came in to see me, we spent significant time going through his history and also obtaining all of his previous operable reports to get a better understanding of his unique conditionŠ We also learned a lot about what types of approaches we could offer this patient based on his unique conditions, including his recurring hernia--and the fact that is was below the umbilicus. Dr. Fischer details the different surgical interventions used, including a mesh placement procedure in the patient's abdomen and use of the "TAR" flap--which lessens the risk of post-operative wound complication, and the patient¹s successful outcome. Penn Medicine's Hernia Program provides evaluation, diagnosis and advanced surgical care from a dedicated team of physician leaders in the field of hernia repair. Our surgeons and physicians collaborate with other Penn specialists in infectious disease, plastic surgery, physical medicine and rehabilitation, physical and occupational therapy and pain management to provide comprehensive care. Hammer Toe Surgery Explained Podiatry Claw Toe Mallet Toe
Surgery of the Foot and Ankle: http://astore.amazon.com/nichogiovi-20 Popular Running Shoes: http://astore.amazon.com/nichogiovi-20?_encoding=UTF8&node=2 www.DrGlass.org glass.dpm@gmail.com Project Lead: Nicholas Giovinco Contributing Authors: Kristen Diehl Doug Doxey Resource Consultant: Kelly Powers Producer: Nicholas Giovinco A "Hammer-Toe" deformity, describes a pathological condition of abnormal or exaggerated contracture at the metatarsal-phalangeal and inter-phalangeal joints of the toes. This is mainly due to an imbalance between the muscular flexors and extensors as well as intrinsic interossei and lumbrical muscles within the forefoot. A hammer toe deformity may present as one of three morphological variations. A true hammer-toe deformity will exhibit dorsiflexion at the metatarsal-phalangeal joint and plantar flexion at the proximal interphalangeal joint. Whereas a mallet toe solely results from a plantarflexory contracture of the distal interphalangeal joint. A simultaneous combination of these two conditions is thus known as a claw toe. Clinically, a hammer toe may present with hypertrophic callosities on the plantar surface of the corresponding metatarsal head and the distal/plantar tip of the toe in addition to a painful corn over the proximal interphalangeal joint. A radiographic analysis of a hammer-toe deformity in the Anterior/Posterior or Dorsal/Plantar view will reveal a hallowed point or gun barrel appearance of the middle phalanx. Although conservative care may involve shoe modifications, padding, strapping, and custom orthosis; surgical reconstruction may be required to alleviate painful and immobilizing hammer-toe conditions. This surgical management of the hammer-toe deformity is performed by variable means of "Sequential Reduction." By this, a hammer-toe contracture is alleviated through various procedures in order to re-establish a functional position during active motion as well as rest. This process may include, a lengthening of the extensor tendons, followed by a resection of the extensor hood. An "Arthroplasty" may be utilized to increase useable joint space within the proximal inter-phalangeal joint by removing the head of the proximal phalanx. In more extreme deformities, a tenotomy of the flexor tendon may be utilized. This may be accompanied by a fusion of the joint itself, known as an "Arthrodesis," whereby the base of the middle phalanx and the head of the proximal phalanx are combined to form one continuous bone mass. By balancing the forces of plantarflexion and dorsiflexion at the joints of the toe, a Hammer-toe operation may result in a drastic improvement of the functional mobility of the foot and leg during gait. 2009 DrGlass.org glass.dpm@gmail.com

Is general anesthesia safe for hypertensive individuals? - Dr. Anupama T S
To most of the patients what they ask is if general anesthesia is safe for general anesthesia patients. It depends if the patient is hypertension is under control or uncontrolled. Whether the surgery is planned or an unplanned one, like an emergency surgery. Why are we worried about people having hypertensions is basically because if it is uncontrolled hypertension, on table patient having stroke, the patient can have myocardial infarction or because of high BP, people can have massive blood loss and shock and hypotension. If a person is for a minor surgery, who is a very controlled hypertension, when they come on the operation table, there is sometimes anxiety and stress, the BP shoots up. What we try to do is we try to sedate them, give some anxiolytics , wait and watch if the blood pressure comes down and then take them for surgery. But if it is for a major surgery or planned surgery and the patient comes with an uncontrolled hypertension, we try to defer it till we get a good control.

Hernia Repair Inguinal (Open) Surgery Patient Education
http://facebook.com/PreOp and http://PreOp.com Patient Education Company http://www.PreOp.com Patient ED @ 617-379-1582 INFO Your doctor has recommended that you undergo surgery to repair a hiatal hernia. But what does that actually mean? Your diaphragm is a muscle that separates your chest from your abdomen and helps you to breathe. Normally, the diaphragm has an opening for the esophagus to pass through where it connects with the stomach. A hiatal hernia occurs when part of the stomach pushes upward through this small opening. Medical Malpractice Your hiatal hernia may be causing considerable discomfort, with symptoms like heartburn, difficulty swallowing, chest pain and belching. The reasons why hiatal hernias form are not known, but they are quite common. A hernia is dangerous only if it becomes strangulated. That means that the portion of the stomach that is pushed up into the chest may become pinched - preventing blood from reaching it. Medical Malpractice If this happens, you may require emergency surgery to restore blood flow and to repair the hernia. Luckily, the vast majority of hernias are not considered to be emergencies. However, if you should ever feel a sudden onset of severe pain in your chest or stomach, you should seek medical attention immediately. So make sure that you ask your doctor to carefully explain the reasons behind this recommendation. Patient Education Company In general terms, we can say that a hernia occurs when the layers that make up the abdominal wall weaken. In other words, the fabric of muscle and other tissues which protect the gut, develops a defect, or weakness. Through that defect the peritoneum (PER-IT-TA-NEE-UM) - and perhaps other organs - push their way outward, forming a lump which can be felt - and sometimes seen - protruding from the abdomen. In men, the inguinal canal contains blood vessels that supply the testes, as well as the vessel that carries sperm to the penis. Hernias that occur due to a weakness in the abdominal wall at the inguinal canal, are called inguinal hernias. And not surprisingly, men are 25 times more likely than women to experience a hernia in this area. Patient Education Company On the day of your operation, you will be asked to put on a surgical gown. You may receive a sedative by mouth and an intravenous line may be put in. You will then be transferred to the operating table. In the operating room, a nurse will begin preparation by clipping or shaving your groin. The surgeon will then apply antiseptic solution to the skin over the hernia, place a sterile drape around the operative site and will inject a local anesthetic. Usually, the surgeon will inject more than one spot - to make sure that the entire area is thoroughly numb. Or in the case of a spinal, the anesthetic will be injected into the small of your back. After allowing a few minutes for the anesthetic to take effect, Patient Education Patient Education Company

Dental Dangers: Cavitations
Biological dentist P. Vernon Erwin, DDS, talks about the hidden danger of jawbone cavitations - holes in the jawbone that are potent sources of endotoxins and that typically result from extraction sites that have not been cleaned out properly. How are they detected? How do they affect your health? How are they treated? Specific health conditions linked to cavitations include chronic pain, arthritis, cancer, heart disease, neurological problems and kidney problems. Biological dentistry is a specialty that looks at the teeth in relation to the whole body and the links between dental and systemic health. For this reason, it's also sometimes called "holistic," "integrative" or "whole body" dentistry. Scientific research has shown dental and oral problems linked to a wide variety of conditions, including diabetes, endocarditis, stroke, cancer, chronic pain, rheumatoid arthritis, heart disease, chronic fatigue (CFS), multiple chemical sensitivities (MCS) and autoimmune disorders such as MS, ALS and lupus. Kidney Disease Treatment (From Stage 3 - End Stage) : Dialysis For Kidney Disease (Renal Failure)
Learn How To Cure Kidney Disease & Improve Kidney Function Naturally in 6 - 8 Weeks Without Dialysis. 100% Guaranteed By Thousands People From Worldwide. And Approved by Doctors and Nephrologists. CLICK HERE ►► http://www.KidneyDiseaseNaturalTreatment.betterhealthguidelines.com/guide ****************************************************** Kidney disease may evolve on its own due to damage to the structures of the kidneys, polycystic kidney disease, severe kidney infection or it may be an outcome of some other diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, chronic illnesses, autoimmune disorders, etc. Oftentimes, kidney disease may originate from external factors such as drugs, industrial toxins and congenital defects. Malfunctioning of other organs such as heart or liver may also affect the function of kidneys and cause kidney disease in the long run. Here are some of the most commonly seen symptoms of kidney disease : * Urination Disorders : Any disorder related to the way the kidney functions usually shows up in the form of malfunction(s) in the urinary system. The patient might feel a constant urge to urinate during nighttime, and may find it difficult to urinate at all, at times. There might occur what is known as hematuria (blood in urine) and the urine may be foamy or bubbly in appearance. Some patients might urinate in greater amounts than usual, while some may urinate less often, and in lesser quantity. Urine may be pale or dark in color. * Fatigue : Fatigue is another common symptom. The reason it occurs is the kidneys' inability to produce erythropoietin. When erythropoietin is not produced in appropriate quantity, it causes a dearth in the number of oxygen carrying red blood cells. This causes the brain and the muscles to suffer quick exhaustion thus, resulting in extreme fatigue. The low count of red blood cells may result in anemia, and this may cause the affected person to feel cold even in a warm weather. Not only this, anemia may further result in bouts of other problems, such as memory loss, trouble with concentration and dizziness. * Itching and Nausea : Kidney disease hinders the function of the organ to remove wastes from the bloodstream. This results in the accumulation of wastes, which becomes evident with the occurrence of severe itching or in some cases, skin rashes. This build up of wastes in the blood may also lead to nausea or vomiting. * Swelling : One of the important functions which the kidneys do for the body, is getting rid of excess fluid. So, it is certain that an unhealthy kidney system becomes inefficient to remove this excess fluid, and allows it to get accumulated. This results in symptoms such as swelling in the legs, feet, face, hands and ankles. * Pain : It is common to hear patients complain against pain in the back, or side where the affected kidney is located. Some kidney diseases might result in the formation of cysts filled with fluid in the kidneys or the liver, and these trigger the pain. * Breathing Problems and Bad Breath : The extra fluid which the kidney is unable to get rid of, can get accumulated in the lungs. This may cause shortness of breath. This may also be caused due to anemia, which may leave the body to starve for enough oxygen. * People often complain against having a metallic taste in mouth, when they are suffering from any kidney disease. They also suffer from bad breath. These occur due to the build up of wastes in the blood. Dialysis is a procedure that is recommended for people affected by kidney failure. The two commonly forms of dialysis are hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. In hemodialysis, the process of cleansing of the blood is done by a special filter called a dialyzer. During this kidney dialysis process, the blood is routed through tubes into the dialyzer, which sifts out wastes, extra salt, and extra water. The clean blood is returned to the body through another set of tubes. The other technique called peritoneal dialysis, involves the use of body's own tissue cells within the abdominal cavity to filter the blood. A special fluid is inserted into the abdominal cavity via a plastic tube called a catheter. The fluid moves around the intestines, and the intestinal walls act as a filter between this fluid and the bloodstream. This fluid helps in the removal of waste products and excess water from the body. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XEbW-uxsPc

Proper Tooth Care for Diabetics -- Aaron D Johnson, DMD; The Smile Center -- Bismarck, ND
The Center for Disease Control recognized that Diabetes is the sixth leading cause of death among Americans. As many as 18 million Americans have diabetes and 41 million have pre-diabetes. Diabetes that goes unchecked or untreated can result in serious and life-threatening complications, such as blindness; kidney disease; heart disease, stroke, nerve disease that can lead to limb amputation, and, most relevant to me, loss of teeth. //Periodontal Disease and Diabetes What people with diabetes and pre-diabetes should know is that regular trips to the dentist can not only give them a more healthy, radiant smile, but can actually improve their overall health. Diabetics are twice as likely to have gum and bone disease as non-diabetics. In fact, research studies have found a link between periodontal disease (gum disease) and diabetes. Conversely, severe periodontal disease may increase the risk of developing diabetes, and may make it more difficult to manage blood sugar levels. Periodontitis is associated with an increased risk for diabetic complications which include either major cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, or peripheral vascular events. In plain english, diabetes increases the risk of blood clots that can kill you or mess you up and not treating you teeth can increase the risk of diabetes. //Insulin Sensitivity Removing the bacteria around the teeth reduces periodontal inflammation and may increase insulin sensitivity, resulting in improved sugar control. In addition to helping patients understand the connection between oral health care and overall health, dental hygienists educate patients about proper oral hygiene and treat periodontal disease to prevent the condition from advancing and complicating diabetes. To keep your teeth and gums healthy one should keep blood glucose levels as close to normal as possible. Use dental floss at least once a day and Brush teeth after each meal and snack. If you smoke, talk to your doctor about ways to help you quit. if you have diabites and problems with your teeth and gums see a dentist as soon as possible. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dr. Aaron D. Who is not a good candidate for lipo?, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin
Myths prevail and plastic surgery is not exempt from it. There is this common misconception surrounding Liposuction, in particular. For most people, liposuction is a procedure to remove excessive fat and when all is said and done, it is a weight loss alternative. Do note that just like any procedure in cosmetic surgery, there are several factors that are taken into consideration before this surgical technique is recommended to the patient. Simply put, you may not be a good candidate for liposuction if you have any of the following conditions: Number 1: Cellulite: Cellulite is every woman’s bane and cause for concern. There is this perception that cellulite can be improved with liposuction. Perish the thought! Bottom line, liposuction is not a treatment for cellulite. Depending on your skin tone and the level of cellulite, liposuction may slightly improve it, but as a rule of thumb, cellulite is not going to be completely resolved with liposuction. Number 2: If you are overweight or obese. You need to understand that liposuction is not a weight loss procedure. Liposuction will remove what we call the subcutaneous fat, which is the superficial fat of the body. The weight will change slightly, in proportion to the pockets of fat that were removed through liposuction but the deep, excessive fat common among obese people won’t be improved with this procedure. Number 3: If you have a very poor skin tone. When we talk about cosmetic surgery, the skin tone really determines the outcome of a procedure. Skin elasticity is very important and best results can be expected from patients who have this. If you have lost a lot of weight, if you have a lot of excess skin or if you have been pregnant with stretch marks and your skin elasticity is poor, liposuction is not going to be the best procedure for you. Finally, you will not be a good candidate for liposuction if you have a severe illness or a medical condition like hypertension or diabetes that is, for the moment, uncontrolled, If any of these conditions are under control, then you will be able to have liposuction for as long as you have medical clearance from your doctor. Different patients have different anatomies, different skin tone, and different needs. A consultation with your plastic surgeon would be necessary to determine if liposuction would be the ideal procedure for you. Facial Trauma Surgery in Houston TX: Rashad | Houston Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Center
Facial Trauma Surgery in Houston TX: Rashad | Houston Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Center - http://houstonoralsurgery.com There are thousands of facial trauma cases are treated each year by oral and maxillofacial surgeons across the country. The area of the face that is injured and the severity of that injury will determine which procedure must be performed in order to properly treat the trauma. In some cases, multiple treatments are necessary in order to fully restore the face and mouth to its original function and appearance. Dr. Cohen’s practice encompasses all facets of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. He has been certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support since 1982, Pediatric Advanced Life Support since June 2011 and provides all forms of anesthesia to supplement office-based surgery. He has obtained additional training and has extensive experience in the treatment of oral-facial cancer and jaw reconstruction with bone grafts and implant dentistry such as dental implants. "Hi my name is Rashad and I met Dr. Cohen through having a broken jaw. Dr. Cohen was the first doctor recommended. Him and his staff was great, they were trying to see if I was ok and trying to give me anything I needed. And once I made it to the back to meet him, they had already let him know that I really don’t like shots. The procedure was pretty fast. He was trying to get it done because, once again, I said I didn’t like needles or never really had good experiences with dentists. The recovery period was nice, after it was healed. It’s going to be a lot stronger so I won’t have to baby that side of my mouth. Anyone around the Houston, Sugarland, or Stafford area should definitely come see Dr. Cohen if they have any dentist troubles." CEASE & DE-CYST!! A Dr Pimple Popper SPECIAL! Part 1
An epidermoid cyst (Epidermal Inclusion cyst, Infundibular cyst), is a benign growth commonly found in the skin and typically appears on the face, neck or trunk, but can occur anywhere on the body. Another name used is “sebacous cyst” but this is actually an antiquated misnomer, and is not a term used by dermatologists. They are also the most common type of cutaneous cysts. Epidermoid cysts result from the reproduction of epidermal cells within a confined space of the dermis. The pasty contents are mostly composed of macerated keratin (wet skin cells), which creates this “cheesy” consistency, and there can be a pungent odor. An epidermoid cyst may have no symptoms and are typically harmless. Usually people seek removal but they don’t like the appearance of these bumps, or the cyst has ruptured or been inflamed or “infected” in the past. Rupture is associated with sudden redness, pan, swelling, and local heat, and can lead to abscess formation. Also, a history of inflammation, often increases scar tissue in the area, makes the cyst more firmly adherent to surrounding skin, and makes it more difficult to remove. Surgical excision is curative, but the complete cyst removal including the entire cyst sac and contents need to be removed to ensure that the cyst won’t reoccur. Recovery from Abdominal Hernia Repair Often Takes Longer Than Patients Expect, Study Finds
Think having a hernia repaired is going to be a walk in the park — or that you'll be ready to take a walk in the park within hours afterward? It may be time for a reality check, a Mayo Clinic study suggests. Researchers found that though patients tend to expect to return to normal activities swiftly after laparoscopic ventral hernia repair, many of those studied were still experiencing pain and fatigue several days later. People under 60 and women in particular seemed to have more prolonged recoveries. For more information, go to the Mayo Clinic News Network. Study Author Juliane Bingener-Casey provides some perspective.

Improved Minimally Invasive Bariatric Surgery
The Transoral Gastroplasty, or TOGA, represents a significant improvement in minimally-invasive bariatric surgery. Instead of making incisions in the abdominal wall, this incision-less option combines two flexible endoscopic staplers passed through the mouth that are used to create a small restrictive pouch in the stomach. After eating a small meal, patients are left with a feeling of satiety, thereby decreasing caloric intake, and eventually shedding excess pounds.

Blossom Beginnings: Understanding Weight Loss Surgery with Dr. Tom | Blossom Bariatrics | Las Vegas
Blossom Beginnings: Understanding Weight Loss Surgery with Dr. Tom | Blossom Bariatrics | Las Vegas I'm Dr. Umbach. I've been doing bariatric surgery for now almost fifteen years. It's my passion. It's what I love to do and I've done a lot of it. I started out at USC at a fellowship and advanced minimally invasive surgery and discovered how powerful these operations were. [...] I've started programs and rebuilt programs and finally have a program of my own, so that's why I'm here. We are Blossom Bariatrics and we're unique. We try to be a little different. The other neat thing about us is we do revision surgery. Revision bariatric surgery is taking other operations from other surgeons and fixing them for whatever reason and that's unique. Not many programs do that, but I feel that if you're going to be a bariatric program, call yourself a legitimate program, you've got to do a whole gamut of stuff. Okay? You've got to take the easy stuff and the hard stuff. That's how we operate. [...] Everything we do is laparoscopic. Most folks nowadays know what that means and its little cuts, long chopsticks and video cameras. That's how we operate all the time nowadays. Why? It's a huge advantage to you, way less pain, way less infection, out of the hospital quick, back to work quick. The problem is it's a very hard surgery to do laparoscopically. So you really need to have somebody that's highly experienced in bariatric laparoscopic surgery, because it's tough stuff. The first operation is gastric bypass. That's kind of the granddaddy. It's been around for 60-80 years and it's still around. It's a good surgery. [...] The effect is amazing, okay? We see results that are amazing, 2/3 weight loss in a year, losing 100 pounds in a year, getting rid of the diabetes, getting rid of the sleep apnea, getting rid of the blood pressure in a year. These are amazing results. [...] We have folks that come in from all over the country and we operate on Thursday or Friday and they usually go do something in Vegas over the weekend, like Grand Canyon or shopping or something like that. So you'll be able to do stuff. You're not going to be bed ridden. Be up walking, talking, and drinking the day of surgery and the goal is to get you back doing normal stuff as soon as possible, as quick as possible. That's kind of our routine for the day of surgery, boring routine. We have a website, please check it out. Okay. We are always tweaking it and improving it and we also have Facebook, where we send out information as well. Blossom Bariatrics is a weight loss surgery center located in Las Vegas, Nevada. Title: The prevention of early OA of the knee following meniscal or ACL surgery is possible by the achievement (& maintenance) of joint homeostasis 3rd International Conference and Exhibition on Orthopedics & Rheumatology, July 28-30, 2014, San Francisco, USA OMICS International: http://conferenceseries.com/ Pharmaceutical Conferences: http://pharmaceuticalconferences.com Global OMICS open access Journals: http://omicsonline.org Global Medical Conferences: http://conferenceseries.com Global Cancer Conferences: http://cancersummit.org Global Diabetes Conferences: http://diabetesexpo.com Global Dental Conferences: http://dentalcongress.com Global Nursing Conferences: http://nursingconference.com Abstract Introduction: The human knee is an excellent model for the development of post-traumatic OA (PTOA) in the medial compartment following meniscal or ACL surgery. The current world-wide rates of PTOA 10 years after ACLR, for example, exceed 50%. This is an alarming statistic and reflects the failure of the current paradigm of orthopedic sports medicine which emphasizes the achievement of structural and kinematic normality. We have discovered, however, that early PTOA of the knee can actually be prevented by the achievement and maintenance of normality in another biological realm: Joint Homeostasis. Methods: The development of Early PTOA was assessed in 19 ACLR and 74 partial medial menisectomy (PMM) patients ACLR (mean 12.3 years P/O) and PMM (mean 7.4 years P/O) by the use of multiple criteria, including radiographs (Rosenberg X-rays) and scintigraphs (Tc99m-MDP Bone Scans) in addition to the standard subjective and objective criteria (e.g. P/O laxity). Results: Early PTOA was prevented if joint homeostasis was achieved and maintained (as in 89% of cases) proven by the presence of 3 criteria: • Total clinical silences: No stiffness, no aching, no sense of instability - totally asymptomatic - the subjective correlate of Joint Homeostasis. • A normal Tc bone scan: Proof of physiologic normality i.e. restoration of bone/tissue homeostasis - the objective, metabolic correlate of joint homeostasis. • A normal Rosenberg X-Ray (Kellgren-Lawrence ‘0’) proof of non-progression to early OA - the Objective structural correlate of joint homeostasis (long-term). If these 3 criteria were met it did not matter, what other factors may have been present including: timing of surgery, degree of P/O laxity, “non-anatomic” position of the ACL graft, presence of grade 3 CMP, level of activity, partial menisectomy, overall alignment, age, sex, height and weight. Discussion: By emphasizing the restoration of joint homeostasis of the knee as the primary clinical goal, rather than the achievement of structural or kinematic normality, an important P/O complication - PTOA- was averted following meniscal and ACLR surgery. Conclusion: The achievement (& maintenance) of joint homeostasis is more important, clinically than the achievement of structural and kinematic normality in the prevention of early PTOA of the knee, and thus represents a new emergent paradigm in orthopedics and musculoskeletal medicine The implications for the possible prevention of early OA in joints other than the knee are vast. Biography Scott F Dye is an Associate Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at University of California San Francisco. He has completed his BA in Physical Anthropology at University of Pennsylvania in 1971, MD at University of Virginia in 1975 and Surgical Internship and Orthopedic residency at Letterman Army Medical Center, Presidio of San Francisco in 1975-1980. His research devoted to the knee and he developed the concept of knee as biologic transmission with an envelope of function. He discovered the internal neurosensory characteristics of the knee by having arthroscopy performed on himself without intra-articular anesthesia. He was awarded with European Traveling Sports Medicine Fellow in 1988.
