People want to know if burpees are the best exercise for getting the job done. Others want to know if battle ropes or even jump rope are better at burning calories and burning fat. While all of them are at the top of the list for the most calories burned on a minute per minute basis, they still are not the best way to lose five pounds of body fat the fastest. In this video, I show you how you can never outtrain a bad diet. If you refuse to pay attention to the quality of your nutrition and the foods you put in your mouth you are never going to have the low levels of body fat that you desire long term. Sure, anyone can follow a short term diet that allows them to lose fat for a few weeks however if you can’t keep it up then you will never be satisfied with your body fat levels over the course of the year. Mistakenly, people look to exercises as the best way to drop body fat. While you definitely need to train, achieving fat loss is and always will be better accomplished via the right nutrition plan. This goes back to the comment about never being able to outtrain a bad diet. You simply cannot make up enough calorie burn via exercise (even the most intense) to overcome bad food choices. For instance, our very own Jesse is a big sugar fanatic and a worshiper of gummy bears. Just 17 measly gummy bears has 150 calories. Even if Jesse were to do 10 minutes straight of high effort high intensity burpees, he would only burn 120 calories and he would lose that battle with a net calorie gain of 30. Now Jesse, being a hardgainer, is not concerned at the moment with his body fat levels. He was the only one wiling to do the burpees while I talked during the video being the good sport that he is. If you are looking to burn 5 lbs of fat however, you need to be sure that you are paying attention to what really matters. Your nutrition will always be at the top of the priority list for getting that job done. Now, does that mean that conditioning exercises like burpees, jump rope, battle ropes and split squat jumps don’t have a place in your workout program if you need to lose fat? Not at all. And in today's video I want to focus on exactly how you should eat to hit the lowest body fat percentage possible. Throughout the last 10 years my body fat percentage has consistently remained low, and at certain points really low through the methods I'm about to share with you today. First I want to solidify in your head that when we're aiming to reduce body fat, the main way to do it is through diet. Weight training is still very important throughout a cut for you to maintain muscle mass and keep your metabolism elevated while burning fat. However for your body to actually use stored body fat working out takes a backseat to diet. Now before I give you the exact way that you should be eating let's first quickly talk about what 6 to 8% body fat looks like and what it actually means. There are a bunch of different ways to test out your body fat percentage but one of the most recognized and most accurate ways is through a dexa scan. There are a bunch of people that have already posted YouTube videos in which they get their dexa scan results and i want to provide a side-by-side comparison so you can see how body fat percentages are one inaccurate even on a dexa scan and 2 they're kind of irrelevant. You'll see what I mean in this comparison. Im going to compare Conor McGregor a ufc fighter to Greg Gallagher a popular intermittent fasting advocate to Jamie alderton whos a natural bodybuilder. All these guys got their dexa scan results and McGregor came up at 7 %. Gallagher came up at 8.1% and Jamie Alderton came up at 10.8%. If I were to line up these guys pictures I would assume that a competitive bodybuilder like Jamie alderton would have the lowest body fat percentage. And I would also assume that Conor McGregor would have the highest body fat percentage. These are just three examples but there are tons of these examples in which even the more accurate dexa scan doesn't seem very accurate at all. On top of that many people are under the impression that the lower the body fat percentage the more ripped and jacked you look. However part of looking "shredded" is about how much muscle mass you have on your body and how you hold your overall body fat. There are people that truly are 7% yet they look worse than someone that's 12% just because of the way that the fat is distributed across their body and how their muscles look. With all that said I'm imagining that you're probably not going to get a dexa scan. To track your body fat percentage you're probably going to be using either calipers or a bioelectrical impedance analysis both of which are considered far less accurate then a dexa scan. Even though any one of these tests can be used and progress can be measured as long as you stick to the same testing method they are inaccurate. One thing you don't want to do is you dont want to track via bioelectrical impedance and then a month later use the calipers. You gotta stick to one test. But even though they can be used as a comparison to measure progress the actual number that you get as your result doesn't really mean all that much in relation to Aesthetics. There are so many marketing campaigns aimed at convincing guys that unless their body fat percentage is in the low single-digits they have to buy a certain product to get there. However something that you should know is that being at a low body fat percentage 4 a competition and maintaining it on a daily basis are two completely different things. Our bodies need a certain percentage of fat in order to be able to function: Women need about 13 percent body fat and men about 3 percent. This is considered your essential body fat that you need to survive. In addition to essential body fat, a body also needs stored fat. With stored fat taken into account, when overall body fat levels drops lower than 14 percent for women and 8 percent for men, health risks increase, including everything from reproductive dysfunction to dehydration, starvation, loss of muscle tissue, premature osteoporosis, and organ and nerve damage. So first of all you should ask yourself why you want to be at such a low body fat percentage to begin with? And the second thing you should do is recognize that maintaining such a low body fat percentage on a day-to-day basis is unrealistic overrated unhealthy and completely unnecessary.

Combining this with cardio exercises will worsen your fat loss process. You need look at your diet plan and include foods that will act as fuel to your muscles. Eliminate the snacks and sugary foods from your diet and include protein rich foods in your diet and indulge in lean meats. Ensure that your weight loss process does not cause you a muscle loss. 4. Focus on Fat Loss If you want to lose fat from your body, that is fine, however do not always go by what scale reads. You need to check that you are not losing muscles and you must know your fat % in the body. Losing weight should aim to lose fats from the body not lean muscles. Before we get started it’s important to identify the fact that there are three main body types. Depending on what body type you are, it’s going to impact how you gain weight, how you lose weight, and what your body ends up looking like to reach your specific goals. So, everyone is born with an inherited skeletal structure and body composition. A lot of nutritionists, trainers, doctors, and other healthcare professions will actually use this information about your body type or somatotype to help guide you in creating a customized meal plan, training regimen and adapting these things about your specific body type and shape to help you reach your goals. So, lets break down the three body types. There are mesomorphs, endomorphs and ectomorphs. Most people may not perfectly fit into one category, you might be a combination of both. But, for the most part you can place yourself primarily in one category to help give us tools and extra things that are going to guide how to support your fitness goals. For example, we’re going to start with the case of the endomorph. Very classic case of the endomorph is somebody with a Kim Kardashian body type. Endomorphs tend to have a smooth round body, large to medium bone structure, small shoulders and shorter limbs. They tend to cover their weight in the lower abdomen, hips and thighs instead of being evenly distributed throughout the body. Endomorphs have a difficult time losing fat with diet alone so a well rounded fitness program is important. If you’re an endomorph you can’t be one of the people who can just diet your way to success. The training is going to have a very big impact on your physique. If you’re an endomorph. You can’t just avoid the gym all together and just eat salad and sit in the corner. They must stay in motion just about everyday and fight that urge to completely chill out. The number gives you an idea of how much of your body is composed of fat, muscles, and tissue. Step 1: Know the ranges for women Know the body fat ranges to aim for if you're a woman. 10 percent body fat is the absolute minimum; athletes tend to be in the 14 to 20 percent range. Fit people are at 21 to 24 percent. 25 to 31 percent is acceptable, and 32 percent and higher is too much. Step 2: Know the ranges for men Know the body fat ranges to shoot for if you're a man. For men, 2 to 4 percent is essential, athletes are 6 to 13 percent, fit men are 14 to 17 percent, and 18 to 25 percent is considered acceptable. 26 percent or more is considered excessive. Step 3: Avoid water and exercise Prepare for taking your measurements. Don't drinking too much water or exercise 2 hours before taking measurements as this can skew the body fat percentage scores. Step 4: Locate measurement sites Locate the sites for skin-fold measurements. For men, the sites are diagonally on the chest, and vertically on the abdominals and thighs. For women, the sites are vertically on the triceps and thighs, and diagonally on the suprailiac, which is midway between the hip joint and the rib cage. Step 5: Use a caliper Use a caliper to take skin-fold measurements. Pinch and pull a fold of skin using your index finger and thumb. Use the caliper to take a measurement one centimeter away. Wait a few seconds for the fat to compress. Take the measurements from your right side, and take two from each site. Tip Have a trained professional take skin-fold measurements to get the most accurate numbers. Step 6: Calculate your body density Add your skin-fold measurements, and enter the sum into the body density equation to calculate your body density. For women, the equation is .0000023 times the sum squared, minus your age multiplied by .0001392, minus .0009929 multiplied by the sum, plus 1.0994921. For men, the numbers are .0000016, .0002574, .0008267, and 1.1093800. Step 7: Determine body fat percentage Determine your body fat percentage by dividing 495 by your body density and subtracting 450. Tip To avoid number crunching, use an online calculator to determine your body density and fat percentage based on your skin-fold measurements. Step 8: Take a bioelectrical impedance analysis Take a bioelectrical impedance analysis using a fat-percentage scale if you want to bypass the math. The scale sends a low-voltage electrical current through your body to measure your fat percentage. Electricity goes faster through fat-free mass like muscles. Step 9: Understand the error rate Understand that the error rate for these methods can be as high as 8 percent, but your body fat percentage range will give you a good idea of your body makeup and what goals you should aim for. In this video, I’m going to show you how good advice at the wrong time can become bad advice. If you are not losing fat as fast as you would like to, likely it is because you aren’t focusing on the right things. To start, it helps to define certain levels of body fat so that we are all on the same page. If you are greater than 30 percent body fat, your number one culprit is and always will be your nutrition. It is not about the amount of cardio that you are doing or whether or not that cardio workout is being done in a fasted state or not. Given the fact that cardio doesn’t really burn that many calories at the end of the day and that a day full of bad eating can quickly eclipse what you burned in your training, it just isn’t a good idea to focus your efforts there. This is the problem however, and it is repeated frequently almost every day. People will read a tip on fat loss and think that it is the best place to focus their attention as they try to lose weight and drop body fat. For instance, you have likely heard that carbohydrates such as sweet potatoes are better for you than white rice or other less complex carbohydrates. That said, if your body fat is in the over thirty percent range however, it isn’t likely that you are struggling to choose between these two options. Instead, you are likely eating french fries. The same can be said for supplements for fat loss. People have been conditioned to think that supplements are the be all and end all, a savior for those wanting to eat better. The problem with this thinking is however that once the money runs out and you can no longer afford to purchase supplements every month then what habits have you learned to eat better? Likely none. Here again you are going to be setting yourself up for failure in the long run. I always preach how workout consistency and consistency with your healthy eating is crucial for seeing long term results. The key to this statement however is that this operates on a sliding scale. Your ability to lose fat and drop down from the over 30 range to in the 20’s and teens is going to require that you only get it right 60 percent of the time. Instead of focusing on perfection (which is nearly impossible especially for those in bad shape to start), you need to focus on what can be achieved and be inspired by the changes that occur as you make those more consistently right decisions. From here, you should start to get encouraged as you watch your body fat levels drop. Each new milestone becomes a new threshold for improvement and the changes that are required to get there. So, the advice that you were given to focus more on sweet potatoes over white rice may actually become good advice again since it will be delivered to you at the time that it actually matters. This and fasted cardio start to become relevant whereas they were not going to be able to make a difference at higher levels of body fat. The key to losing weight and body fat is to follow a series of achievable goals. In this video, I share with you a three phase plan for losing fat in the abdomen, love handles or waistline area, and the chest. These spots are where most men carry their fat and are the last to lose it when dieting or trying to cut down. The reason for this is actually based on our genetics, but it doesn’t mean that we cannot do something about it. Before we get started however, here is a list of the videos that I referenced in the video for you to watch: How to Stretch Your Chest - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SV7l1sfEmO0 The 7 Minute Ab Workout - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jyhJ6TiUPA Lose the Love Handles - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWjf2io_b6E The first thing you have to realize is that all three of these areas share the common problem in that they look bad mostly because of the abundance of body fat. You may even have developed muscles underneath, but as long as the fat is present you will never get a chance to see what it looks like. This means that your priority has to be on cleaning up your nutrition. If you refuse to eat better, no matter what else you do, you will never look better. Early on however, you don’t have to get too specific with your eating. Simply make a pass through your diet and get rid of the obvious garbage that you know is not helping your cause. Sweets, excessive alcohol, sugars, etc can all be removed and replaced with more nutritious foods. You don’t have to necessarily worry about your macros at this point but just getting rid of the junk food and liquid calories. Realizing that it will take some time to see the results of these changes however, you should start chipping away at the trouble spots in another way. For the abdomen, you want to first ensure that you can properly activate the muscles in the rectus and transverse abdominis. Most find this difficult and even when they do perform ab exercises they get frustrated at not being able to feel them. Next, you want to start adding in ab training but mostly in the form of rotational ab exercises. Instead of trying to do crunches and having the fat get in the way of the movement, you can work your abs without having to crunch. Finally, you want to incorporate moves for your entire core, such as with the 7 minute ab workout included above. When it comes to the love handles, you want to start by working the lats. Here especially, you want to focus on full contractions and range of motion to ensure proper development of the muscles that actually insert onto the top of the pelvis near your waistline. The more you can build these muscles the greater the visual differential between your waist and your shoulders and the better the v taper. Next add in direct ab work and finish up with direct oblique training for the best look as your diet gets dialed in. Finally, for the chest you want to stretch it and strengthen the muscles of the rotator cuff to posturally improve the visual appearance of your chest. From here, work the serratus anterior. This will give your chest more natural underlying support will helping to visually chisel out the area underneath. Finally, you want to make sure that as your body fat levels decrease and fat loss continues that you are working your chest in all three heads. Use the angles of the band work as an example of how to hit the upper, lower and middle chest. Omron Fat Analyzer Review. My body fat percentage 9 weeks out. I have used the Omron Fat Analyzer since I started prepping for my first INBA Men's Physique Competition. When I first started, my body fat percentage on the Omron was 12%. I have gotten reading as low as 6.5%. For the last three weeks, Justin Aryes from RIPE Gym, has been tracking my body fat progress using calipers. There is a bit of the difference from the two readings. At this point in my physique, I am now mainly going to rely on my caliper readings. A lot of the research I found online in regards to the Omron state that the machine has difficulty being accurate with low single digit body fat. As always like and subscribe. Stay NaTTy FiT

Wondering what body fat percentage you have to be at to see six pack abs? Today I show examples of how having a 6, 8, 10 or 12% body fat percentage does not guarantee visible ab definition. 🔥 FREE 6 Week Challenge: https://gravitytransformation.com Fat Loss Calculator: http://gravitytransformation.com/macro-calculator/ This is a video that I wanted to do for a while because this 12% myth has spread all over the internet and now you have a bunch of people that might have never even been under 12% body fat claiming that you need to get under 12% to see your abs. The YouTube Community especially, seems to be convinced that 12% is the number to be at to see a six pack. I'm here today to tell you that this is completely untrue and it's a total myth. I'm not sure why or when 12% was picked as the definitive number to seeing a six pack, but I do know that associating six pack abs with a certain percentage of body fat is totally flawed. One reason why we can't say that a certain percentage is going to equal abs is because the way that your body distributes its body fat varies dramatically from person to person. One person can store most of their body fat in their thighs and hips while another person can store the majority of their body fat over their abdomen. I've personally trained thousands of people with all different body fat percentages. And a lot of my clients that were actually really lean still could not see their abs. In fact even my business partner dropped his body fat to 8 percent after dieting for 16 weeks and still could not see six pack abs. Meanwhile I've done bulking phases where I was eating an insane amount of calories and I was weighing in at like 230lbs, yet I could still see visible AB definition on top of my stomach that would be full of food. That's because I hold a lot of my fat in my lower body. My fat is mostly Stored in my hips love handles and upper thighs. Meanwhile his fat is predominately stored in his belly so even when he dropped down to 8% he still couldn't see his abs. And I know for a fact that I've had points where ive been well above 14% And still have had great ab definition. Again this all has to do with fat distribution and not with the number that you get from mostly inaccurate body fat devices. So that's actually another thing. Most body fat testing methods are totally flawed. Even the dexa scan which is supposed to be one of the most accurate ways to scan your body fat can be completely off and I've demonstrated this in another video. If you're using calipers, or formulas based on measurements, or bioelectrical impedance forget about it, there's so much room for error, you're going to be at least three to four percent off. Due to inaccurate measurements alone...you can't count on your body fat percentage to tell you when you're going to see those abs. The good news is that as long as you use the same body fat device the change over time should be pretty accurate. So if you're using for example a scale to determine your body fat, the initial reading probably will be inaccurate and so will the final reading but the change over time should be pretty accurate. However again this does not help you identify a definitive body fat percentage that will lead to visible abs. The last thing that this 12% body fat myth completely ignores is that to see your abs you have to build up the muscle...Abs....... are muscles. There's not just a magic six pack sitting under everyone's belly fat. Unfortunately that's not how it works. First of all everyone's abs are shaped differently due to different genetics. So one guy might burn away the belly fat from his abs and find very defined symmetrical six pack looking ab muscles while another guy might burn off the same fat but because his abs are shaped differently they're not going to look as defined and symmetrical. Like I said ABS are muscles. So if you have one guy that has worked his abs very well with Progressive resistance training workouts and you have another guy that does a couple crunches here and there the guy that worked on his abs with weights is going to have a lot more blocky visible abs than the other guy as long as his genetics arent horrible. Which is actually totally a real possibility. There are some people that don't work out at all and have ripped six packs only because of good muscle building genetics and a good distribution of body fat. Now you have to understand that this is the truth because for me as a trainer it does me no good to tell people that ABS aren't as easy to acquire for some as they are for others.

A scale is only going to tell you how much you weigh and will not give you any information on whether you are losing fat or gaining muscle. In order to know just how much body fat you are dropping you need to have a reliable way to measure this...and unfortunately, most of the options are not that consistent or reliable. That said, if you could have access to a few methods for testing your own body fat levels in the convenience of your own home, you might be able to see where you are a bit more frequently. Even if the accuracy wasn't spot on, you would still be able to monitor the week to week fluctuations in the body fat percentages that you are seeing and would know the direction you are moving in. In this video, I cover four of the most common methods for testing body fat percentages at home. I tell you the flaws and the positives with each method. From online body fat calculators to bioelectrical impedance scales to skinfold caliper testing to the old fashioned mirror...each method is reviewed and actual body fat testing results are revealed. Also, be sure to watch how important knowing your body fat levels are when determining your fitness. You'll see how two people can weigh exactly the same and look drastically different. Hint...it all has to do with lean body mass! The method I’m about to share with you is dangerous and should not be attempted without supervision. MMA Fighters will do pretty much anything to gain a competitive advantage and they put their bodies through some brutal methods to do so. They manipulate their bodies days before the fight in order to weigh in at a much lower weight than they normally walk around at, to gain most of it back before entering the ring to try and slap the heads of each other. This is the fight before the fight and can break any fighter both mentally and physically while potentially mess up inner organs and cause serious damage if taken too far. So the average adult body actually consists of about 60 % water which is something the fighters use to their advantage when cutting weight. It’s that fluid they want to squeeze out and they dehydrate themselves to lose most of the weight. They are usually already in great shape and have low body fat percentages so they won’t really burn much fat of in the weight cutting process. It’s not calories in calories out here but more about manipulating your water and sodium levels and put your body in overdrive to flush that weight off. So to start of the weight cut on day 5, they will drink a shitload of water, and a shitload equals at least 2 gallons or 8 liters of water. Drinking a lot more water than usual will not necessarily make you gain weight but will put your body into overdrive and trigger it to excrete and flush out more water than you take in and you might actually burn some extra calories from bouncing to the bathroom about 20 times a day. They also cut their carbs out completely which means they only eat foods with proteins and fats along with their water. A popular diet is the ketogenic diet which also manipulates your body similarly to the water loading. So they hold carbs extremely low or skip it completely, eat about 70 % of their caloric intake in fat and the rest in protein and this diet is pretty easy to adhere to and is something they follow even when they don’t need to cut. When there is no carbs in the body, there is no glycogen or blood sugar to get energy from and the body instead turns to fat for energy which is super effective if you want to get ripped. Another huge benefit with this kind of diet is that 1 gram of carb pulls 2.7 grams of water, and getting rid of carbs will essentially flush even more water out. So they start of by drinking ridiculous amounts of water to trigger that overdrive and flush water out. Then they tighten that funnel of water supply as they get closer to weighing in for the fight and eventually stops it completely. They keep track of both macro and micronutrients to manipulate and throw the body off to their advantage with carb and sodium cutting. Hot baths, sauna and towel bathing are then used to extract more fluid and they can even throw in some exercises in the mix just to make it a little extra. Finish it of by forcing down some dandelion root extract and they are on their way to make weight and finally be able slap the heads of each other. But guys again this is not a method for long term weight loss results and if you’re looking to shed fat you should look elsewhere. The best diet to follow is the one you can adhere to and I like the simplicity of intermittent fasting where you basically refrain from eating certain hours throughout the day. Ketogenic diet or flexible dieting are popular methods to stay lean for a longer period of time so definitely look into that. If you really want to know if your program is working for you you need more tools. You see; our body is made up of about 60% water. A 150 lb. person has about 100 lbs. of water. That water goes in and out of cells, muscle, organs depending on many factores. For women a certain time of the month, for higher intake of sodium, for intake of different types of carbs, etc. My point is that your bodyweight fluctates for so many reasons that we can't figure it out. Three ways that are better than just using the scale to see if your fitness program is working is: #1 The way your clothes fit If your pants are more lose around the waist and you have more room in your clothes than more than likely are losing fat. #2 To use a clothe tape and a scale. The waist line measurement and the scale give you a lot better feedback. If the scale stays the same and the waist measurement goes down, then you are losing fat and gaining muscle. If the scale stays the same and the waist measurement goes up then you are gaining fat. #3 One site skin fold caliper kit. They are very easy to use and very affordable. Just google search for them. The feedback is much more precise than the other methods above. The three #'s that are important to monitor are; 1. Overall bodyfat % 2. Fat weight 3. Lean Body Mass These kit are very easy to use and within one minute you will know if you are losing, gaining, or maintaining muscle and fat. Using one or all three of these techniques you will be able to find out what works and what does not work at gaining muscle and losing fat. Decrease your body fat and maximize lean muscle with this program http://athleanx.com/x/program-to-build-pure-muscle Learning how to measure body fat at home is one of the best skills you will learn to assist you in your fitness transformation. Relying on the scale is simply not an accurate way to gauge progress since lifting weights is likely going to cause you to gain weight while you may be dramatically lowering your body fat percentage. A scale could make you think you are off track on your way to your lean goals. Instead, mastering your measuring abilities of your own body fat will help you to determine your true progress. In this video, I show you how to measure your body fat yourself in your own home to figure out how close you are to your six pack abs. One method is more expensive than the other, however when you realize just how important this number will be to your progress, you may just find a way to add this tool to your gym equipment. First, skin fold calipers are a classic home testing option. Are they the most accurate? No. However, they are the most readily available and don’t require the set up that a DEXA scan would. The tradeoff in accuracy is not that high, given that as you become more skilled in pinching…your accuracy could be within 1-3% of the exact number. If you would rather use a more economical method for testing your body fat level at home however, you can easily do that as well. When you realize just what calipers are testing it becomes very easy to see how you can do this with a simple fifty cent tape measure. Calipers are literally measuring the thickness of the skin fold that you pinch when doing your body fat measurements. If you can (easier when you enlist the help of someone else) simply pinch in the locations shown in this video and use a standard tape measure to mark out the thickness of the fold. Average out the results performed on your chest, abdomen and thigh and determine your body fat with this chart: Ellington Darden: 1/4 inch pinch is 5 to 8 percent body fat 1/2 inch pinch is 9 to 13 percent body fat 3/4 inch pinch is 14 to 18 percent body fat 1 inch pinch is 19 to 22 percent body fat 1 1/2 inch pinch is 23 to 27 percent body fat 2 inch pinch is 28 to 32 percent body fat 2 1/2 inch pinch is 33 percent body fat and up Alternatively, if you get your skin fold measurements either with a caliper or with the old fashioned tape measure method you can input them at https://www.escablo.com/en/app/Body-Fat-Percentage-Calculator to determine your current level of body fat. SHOULDER WORKOUT : Lateral 10 reps / Front 10 reps / Rear 10 reps - 3 sets Overhead Barbell press - increased the weight by 5kg every 2 sets / Last set dropping the weight and going until failure.
