HEDIS and Accreditation Standards Changes 2018

56:59
The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) has released the new technical specifications for the 2018 edition of the Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS). The new HEDIS technical specifications include seven new measures, changes to four existing measures and two cross-cutting topics that address issues across multiple measures. New measures and changes follow a rigorous development process that ensures they are relevant, scientifically sound and feasible for implementation. Mindful of stakeholder feedback, NCQA seeks to introduce new measures only where needed and improve measures only when appropriate. Our NCQA leadership team will walk through the changes and discuss the importance of the new measurements. Slides can be downloaded here: http://blog.ncqa.org/wp-content/uploads/HEDIS-HPA-2018-Google-Hangout-All-Slides-Final.pdf For more information, refer to the full measure specifications in HEDIS® 2018 Volume 2: Technical Specifications for Health Plans. HEDIS publications are available in print and electronically. To order, call 888-275-7585 or visit the NCQA Publications website at http://store.ncqa.org. Using the FACIT for COSP Continuous Quality Improvement

01:27:07
Description Based on the work of the COSP Multisite Research Initiative, The Fidelity Assessment Common Ingredients Tool (FACIT) found in the COS Evidence-based Practices KIT published by SAMHSA can assess the extent to which Consumer-Operated Services Programs (COSPs) faithfully implement evidence-based peer practices according to the COSP Common Ingredients (CIs) structure, values and processes. This webinar is intended to share with peer providers a proven method to use in conjunction with the FACIT results called Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI). CQI means that every person in the COSP actively participates in the continuous improvement of processes and performances to ensure COSP members are satisfied with their services and achieve desired recovery goals. As COSP leaders, staff, and members familiarity with the FACIT and the CQI principles grow, you may wonder how a COSP could ever deliver evidence-based peer practices without these evaluation tools in place! This web conference will discuss how to use the FACIT for COSP CQI Describe basic principles of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) for use in Consumer-Operated Services (COSPs) Explain how to facilitate collaborative CQI processes so CQI can enable transformation of COSPs to Evidence-based Practices (EBPs) Illustrate how to analyze Fidelity Assessment Common Ingredients Tool (FACIT) scores to produce charts and bar grafts of COSP Common Ingredients (CIs) Conduct panel with COSP providers who have field experience using the FACIT for COSP CQI Presenter Dr. Jean Campbell, PhD, Research Professor in Mental Health at the Missouri Institute of Mental Health, University of Missouri—St. Louis, is an internationally known mental health consumer researcher, speaker, and consultant and is Director of the Program in Consumer Studies and Training at the Missouri Institute of Mental Health in St. Louis. Throughout her career, she has been a forerunner in the effort to define the recovery and well-being of recipients of mental health services in research and to promote multi-stakeholder approaches in evaluation and service delivery. She is best known for her role as the principle investigator of the MIMH Coordinating Center for the Consumer-Operated Services Programs Multisite Research Initiative, the largest and most rigorous study of peer-run programs in history. Presently, Dr. Campbell works with the Missouri Department of Mental Health to promote consumer-operated service programs as evidence-based practices and recently consulted for the Heartland Consumer Network. Most notably, she was a consultant to the President's New Freedom Commission on Mental Health and a contributor to Mental Health: A Report of the Surgeon General. Dr. Campbell also worked with State mental health agencies in the States of New York, Oklahoma, Washington, Nebraska, West Virginia, New Jersey, Alabama, and Alaska on mental health performance measurement systems, and served on the National Alliance on Mental Illness Scientific Council. She was a member of the CMHS National Advisory Council's Subcommittee on Consumer/Survivor Issues, and is currently on the National Consumer Advisory Board for OptumHealth and SAMHSA's Advisory Council for Women's Services. Dr. Campbell has written over 40 articles and reports on the development and use of management information systems in service system improvement, shared decision-making, privacy of health records, and peer-support programs. She is best known for her groundbreaking, consumer-directed research study of mental health consumer well-being in California, The Well-Being Project (1989), and the supplemental award-winning documentary "People Say I'm Crazy." Dr. Campbell has received many awards for her work as a distinguished researcher and mental health consumer advocate and has been recognized as a leader in promoting a recovery-based mental health system. Peer Provider Panel: Sarah Earll, Co-director, Saint Louis Empowerment Center; Nancy Bollinger, Executive Director, Self Help Center; and, Mickie McDowell, Peer Services Program Specialist, Missouri Department of Mental Health will discuss their experiences using CQI with the FACIT and how the Missouri FACIT Project has enabled peer services in Missouri to deliver evidence-based peer practices.

What does Risk Management really mean for healthcare providers? HSC's Two-Minute Warnings

02:21
If you’re a healthcare professional, I suspect you’re pretty familiar with the term “risk management.” But what does “risk management” really mean for you and your practice? Whether you a physician, a post-acute provider, a dentist, or a behavioral health professional, you’ve probably invested a lot to create and grow your practice. Managing risk appropriately is an important part of protecting that investment. When I think about risk in healthcare, I think about four main categories: Risk related to patient safety; Reputational Risk, Financial Risk, and Legal and Regulatory compliance risk. Now, healthcare reform has brought new care delivery and payment models, and along with them, new kinds of risk that fall into these categories. For example, new health information technologies, mobile apps, and tele-health services create new privacy and security concerns. Integrated delivery models like ACOs mean that you may take on additional risk as a result of partnerships along the continuum of care. What can you do to reduce your exposure to risk? First, make sure your healthcare organization undergoes a thorough risk assessment that identifies vulnerabilities and gaps. Then, develop a risk management program that includes training, implementation, and ongoing compliance monitoring and reviews. Putting your head in the sand when it comes to risk management can negatively impact your practice’s reputation and financial stability. So be proactive, and take steps now to ensure the ultimate success of your practice.

Duchess of Cambridge launches mental health website

03:33
Duchess of Cambridge launches mental health website She's known for her incredibly polished public appearances, and today the Duchess of Cambridge did not disappoint as she put on an impeccable display of co-ordination in head-to-toe blue. The pregnant royal, 36, arrived at a London school to launch a mental health website for young people in a recycled Sportmax coat she wore while expecting Charlotte in 2015, teamed with a £95 scarf from Beulah London, sapphire earrings and navy blue heels. Once inside the Roe Green Junior School, Kingsbury, north-west London, Kate removed her coat to reveal a figure-hugging blue maternity dress by Serpahine underneath. The Duchess is launching the pilot of a website aimed at giving primary school teachers practical resources to help support the mental health of their pupils. Kate will give the green light to the initiative during the visit to the London primary school helping to trial the online portal coordinated and financed by the duchess' Royal Foundation. During the launch Kate will meet teachers and pupils, and join a class taking part in one of the lesson plans featured on the site before giving a speech. The free website for schools, called Mentally Healthy Schools, is expected to be available to primary's nationwide in the spring after being monitored and reviewed. Former head teacher, Claire Thomson, one of the website's quality assurance advisers, said: 'I can see this website becoming a favourite go-to site for information about the many aspects of mental health. 'I think it is really important that all school staff feel that the information applies to them as well, not just to teachers. So, no matter what their role in the school, they need to have an understanding and empathy towards all the children.' Former head teacher, Claire Thomson, one of the website's quality assurance advisers, said: 'I can see this website becoming a favourite go-to site for information about the many aspects of mental health. 'I think it is really important that all school staff feel that the information applies to them as well, not just to teachers. So, no matter what their role in the school, they need to have an understanding and empathy towards all the children.' The website aims to build on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry's Heads Together campaign, which last year encouraged people to speak about their mental health problems or provide a sympathetic ear for someone with issues. William, Kate and Harry are each driving forward a series of programmes to ensure people can get access to the right help, at the right place and at the right time, with the duchess focusing on supporting young people. The duchess brought together Heads Together charity partners, teaching organisations and mental health experts to create the online project.

MAP Behavioral Health Management Platform

The fields of Behavioral Health and Addiction Treatment are facing declining reimbursements and a paradigm shift from fee-for-service to value-based care. And… The question we should be asking is… Are we doing everything we can to improve treatment outcomes to more effectively and efficiently deliver healthcare services? The reality is… Payers, providers and consumers have a significant stake in achieving more effective and efficient continuums of care. Each stakeholder must experience a positive outcome in order to maintain continuity and balance for everyone involved. Is it a dream to hope that payers, providers, and consumers could achieve better, more sustainable results? Results such as improved long-term treatment outcomes… And optimal value-based care… With reduced healthcare expenses… Consider Eric… Eric is the owner of a behavioral health system… He cares deeply about his facilities and their patients and provides exceptional care… But he has been experiencing declining reimbursements… One problem he faces is he has no standardized means to demonstrate his treatment outcomes to payers to facilitate value-based contracting and reimbursement. And without a standardized means, how can he distinguish and position his facilities as “centers of excellence”? Or Anna The director of behavioral health at a prominent payer organization… She needs outcomes data to identify quality treatment providers in a specific network so she can reduce unnecessary costs and improve outcomes. Or Brian… A medical technology vendor who wants to add additional value to his client base… This dream has become a reality for Eric, Anna and Brian… And it can become a reality for you… Introducing the MAP Recovery Network… A HIPAA compliant, cloud-based software platform that makes the triple aim a reality by providing the tools to optimize clinical and financial outcomes. MAP uses advanced population health management resources such as telehealth, predictive analytics, real-time risk assessment and alerts, and customizable reporting to standardize and streamline clinical processes, promote better patient engagement, enable proactive care and minimize revenue losses. MAP provides payers with population risk stratifications and outcomes data to manage provider performance Providers use the MAP platform to demonstrate treatment outcomes and value to payers in order to optimize reimbursement and position themselves as a "Center of Excellence". By integrating MAP’s platform, technology vendors such as EHRs, medical device companies and mobile applications are able to offer additional value to their existing clients and also reach new market segments… Your organization will be able to build a sustainable model for improved accountable care and sustained financial success. This presentation will provide insight into the science of organizational culture and introduce best practices that could make a positive difference to a food safety culture.

The Case for Personal Standards | Todd Diel | TEDxIIT

09:10
You know the person you want to be. Do you have a plan for how to get there? This video discusses how applying Quality Assurance principles to personal behavior allows us to create a set of personal standards that can help us avoid pitfalls on the path to self-actualization. Todd Diel is the Project Coordinator for Education and Safety at IIT’s Institute for Food Safety and Health (IFSH), as well as an Adjunct Industry Professor for Illinois Tech’s Department of Food Science and Nutrition. Over the course of his life, Todd has played many different roles, including quality assurance technician, sales manager, researcher, safety compliance officer, entrepreneur, game designer, and missionary. Through all of these, he has gained a sound appreciation for the power of standards, both as levels of quality or excellence and as rules used as a basis for judgment. He has experienced how applying standards to one’s personal behavior can result in deep and meaningful changes in character that lead to self-actualization—becoming the person one wants to become. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

Hillary Clinton on Her Autism Plan, Sioux City, IA

02:02
Jan. 5, 2016 - Hillary Clinton talked about her autism plan during her town hall in Sioux City, Iowa. Earlier this morning, Clinton released the details of her new Autism plan with four main areas: early screening outreach; proper health insurance coverage; transition into adulthood with a focus on employment; and a first-ever national adult autism prevalence study. The greater attention to both research and services would hopefully benefit the more than 3.5 million people who are on the Autism spectrum. “Today I rolled out my Autism policy because the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says one of out 68 of our kids is on the Autism spectrum,” Clinton said in Sioux City, Iowa, on Tuesday afternoon. “And a lot of those families are just at their whit’s end figuring out how to get the services, how to get the insurance companies to pay for the services, to figure out what to do for schooling, then as a child becomes a young adult, what to do for housing and employment.” Speaking on a campaign-sponsored call, Ari Ne’eman, president of the Autistic Self Advocacy Network (ASAN), said the Clinton campaign approached ASAN to learn about the priorities of the autistic community. He applauded Clinton for seeking his input and being the first candidate to unveil a policy plan on autism. Since ASAN is a nonprofit, Ne’eman will not be endorsing any candidate. He did, however, say he welcomed its focus on helping adults with autism, particularly its focus on finding employment. The plan calls for public-private partnerships to help young adults with autism become employed. “What the employer needs to do is to simply design the job in a way that increases their chances of performing well by tapping these abilities and providing supports for social and sensory stresses,” the plan states. “That is why Clinton’s Autism Works Initiative, building on proven success stories like Project SEARCH, will be so focused on getting more employers invested in providing competitive integrated employment opportunities for people with autism. This development would be good for the individuals, good for the firms, and good for America.” Some of the world’s largest and most innovative technology companies – Microsoft, SAP and Specialisterne – have committed themselves to “provide employment opportunities for people on the autism spectrum in roles such as software testers, programmers, system administrators, and data quality assurance specialists.” The experiences and partnerships generated by this effort offer profound insights into how to challenge employer perceptions, recruit diverse talent, and ultimately put peoples’ diverse abilities to work. Likewise, Delaware Gov. Jack Markell has led the way in partnering with technology companies to employ more people on the autism spectrum. Such partnerships prove that careers in dynamic, cutting edge fields need not be beyond the grasp of people with disabilities. According to the CDC, one out of every 68 children have some feature that places them on spectrum for autism disorders. This is a 30-percent increase from just two years earlier. There are no reliable estimates of adults with autism, but Clinton’s proposed adult autism prevalence study would remedy that. Scott Badesch, president and CEO of the Autism Society of America, commended the Clinton campaign for putting an issue on the table that has not been talked about by others seeking the nomination. “We welcome and appreciate that we are moving toward a much-needed national discussion that will hopefully address the needs of all impacted by autism and other disabilities,” Badesch said. He also said Clinton’s campaign consulted his organization in preparing the policies released Tuesday. “I want to be the president who helps families in our country deal with some of those issues, cause there are tens of millions of us,” Clinton said. “If we don’t have Alzheimer’s or Autism in our family, we may have mental health problems or substance abuse problems.” See more: http://therespectabilityreport.org/2016/01/06/clinton-unveils-plan-focusing-on-autism/

Title: The Gift of Quality: How to make the World a Better Place Presenter: Dr. Mark Jones ASQ HD&L Webinar: June 28, 2017 Quality Management when applied as a leadership and human development approach, can make the world a better place by training practitioners to demonstrate how individuals, organizations, and communities can plan, assure, measure, and improve well-being (health and wellness). This webinar uses a quality management lens as a human development approach to achieving "well-being" as the quality (state or condition) of individual and organizational health and wellness. We will introduce an architecture of the Gift of Quality in terms of the roles of Performance Optimization, Quality Management, Human Development, and Leadership Development. We will also explore how Quality Management can be used as the planning, assurance, quality control (verification/regulation), and improvement of individual and organizational wellness as the subjective and behavioral experience of abundant prosperity (causes of joy). We will introduce some tools that address relational well-being (H-S-L), technical-structural well-being (MBNQA), and relational competency (ESCCO | INA) — leading to greater individual and organizational resilience, effectiveness, efficiency as indicators of well-being.

Presentation Handout: http://www.dhs.state.mn.us/main/groups/county_access/documents/pub/dhs-287814.pdf Care providers working with people who have IDD and a mental illness often struggle to bring together the different ways of understanding reasons for problem behavior. A comprehensive functional behavior assessment (FBA) can: • help care providers understand the true nature of complex patterns of behavior, and • guide proper selection of interventions. Join Dr. Dan Baker to review strategies for including mental illness (or lack of mental wellness) into a functional behavior assessment (FBA). He will use examples and case studies throughout the presentation. Dan Baker, Ph.D., NADD-CC is the new Internal Reviewer for the Jensen/Olmstead Quality Assurance and Compliance Office at MN DHS.
