https://www.expedia.com/explore/greater-sacramento/lake-tahoe.d180041 Filled with over 39 trillion gallons of pure Sierra snowmelt and pushed a mile into the Californian and Nevada skies, Lake Tahoe is the USA’s largest alpine lake and one of the country’s oldest, year-round vacation playgrounds. Lake Tahoe has forever drawn travellers to its shores, from the Native Americans who call this place Big Water, to the trappers, timber cutters and pioneers who followed. When you’re ready for a little alpine magic, take the four-hour drive from San Francisco to the sunlit shores of Kings Beach. Set on Tahoe’s northern end, this beach was named after local card shark, Joe King, who used his winnings to develop some of the lake’s earliest lodgings. On the lake’s southern shore, is Pope Beach, where you’ll find another Tahoe institution, Camp Richardson. From Pope Beach follow the bike path to the Taylor Creek Visitor Center. An open-air classroom for the entire family, the center features fabulous interpretative walks such as the Rainbow Trail. Nearby, at DL Bliss State Park, follow the spectacular Rubicon Trail into neighboring Emerald Bay State Park. This park is home to the Eagle Falls Trail, a moderate two-mile hike that takes in some of the Sierra high country’s finest views. When the ponderosa pines bend with the season’s first snow, Tahoe transforms into the nation’s favorite winter playground. Whether you’re looking for snow-capped peaks or crystal clear coves, places to bond with loved ones or pockets of pure solitude, The Lake in the Sky has it all.

Tempers flared today during counter-protests over the Confederate flag at the South Carolina state house in Columbia just as the Ku Klux Klan was announcing plans for a pro-flag rally in the capitol city. According to The Post & Courier, Klan members have filed a permit for a rally Saturday, July 18, at the state house to protest the proposed removal of the Confederate flag. In response to the plan, South Carolina governor Nikki Haley issued a statement saying of the Klan: "This is our state, and they are not welcome." http://feeds.mashable.com/~r/Mashable/~3/sctBeJvMph8/ http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by Wochit using http://wochit.com

Plan your Lake Superior Day event for July 20, 2008 celebrate world's largest, cleanest freshwater lake There's nothing like the crystal clear waters of Lake Superior in the summertime. Lake Superior Day 2008 is right around the corner. Make your plans now to celebrate Lake Superior. The world's largest, cleanest freshwater lake will be honored on July 20, 2008 The Chippewa Indian translation, Gichigami, signifies Great Water. According to Native American Ojibwa lore, it is protected by Nanabijou, Spirit of the Deep Sea Water. If you can't come up with an idea on how to celebrate Lake Superior - we can help. Organizers have ideas for anglers, boaters, local governments, American Indian tribes, faith communities, environmental groups, libraries & small/large business. For example, beach cleans ups have been held by the Zen Buddist and other faith communities in northern Michigan. Sitting on the shores of Lake Superior in Marquette, two interfaith organizers reflect on the importance of this superior lake. Individuals, families, churches, kids, communities, clubs, businesses and industries hold events that celebrate Lake Superior Day, held annually on the third Sunday in July. Do something that symbolizes your connection to the lake on July 20. Become part of celebrations that will encircle Lake Superior. Lake Superior Day started in the early 1990s to show how it's vital to the environment & economy. The Lake Superior Binational Forum (LSBF) promotes this basin-wide event. Many events have been held to educate/entertain people about lake issues, special places, & recreational opportunities. You're invited to hold activities/events that celebrate this world-class lake. The lake 's surface covers 31,700 square miles, about the size of South Carolina. The lake is so big it could hold all the water from the other four Great Lakes, plus three more lakes the size of Lake Erie. In 1985, scientists using a submersible vessel descended for the first time to the deepest part, near the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Lake Superior 's deepest point is 1,332 feet, which would almost cover the Sears Tower in Chicago. The lake stretches approx. 350 miles from west to east, & 160 miles north to south. If you could travel the entire Lake Superior shoreline, you 'd go 1,826 miles, the distance from Duluth to San Francisco. This year's theme "Let's Go Fly a Kite" symbolizes clean energy sources. For more info about flying a kite Lake Superior Day: http://www.superiorforum.info/uploads/Kite_Poster.pdf Last year almost 45 groups/communities held special events like dragon boat races, beach clean ups, musical concerts, library displays, church services, and signed proclamations.. On Lake Superior Day 2007, classical musicians from around the Great Lakes debuted the Boreal Chamber Symphony in Marquette, MI sponsored by the Upper Peninsula Earth Keepers. St. Helena Island is a magical place on the South Carolina coastline where African American men and women have farmed this land and fished this water for centuries--first as plantation slaves, then as freedmen. It's now one of the last communities on the East Coast that hasn't been swallowed up by development and tourism. But St. Helena's way of life is at a crossroads. Watch and see how farmers and fishermen have adapted to the modern world and whether they would be able to pass this rich heritage to the next generation.

The Coast Guard joined rescue efforts today near Charleston, South Carolina, as rain continued to fall on the area, part of a storm system causing flash flood emergencies and power outages along the East Coast. The Coast Guard Charleston Sector said it was assisting with land rescues in Berkeley County, near Huger, which is north of Charleston. The National Weather Service's Charleston South Carolina Forecast Office said that Charleston received 11.5 inches of rain on Saturday, making it the wettest day on record for the city. Over the next two days, parts of eastern South Carolina and North Carolina could receive 10 more inches of rain. Other sections of South Carolina experienced incredible amounts of rain. Columbia received over 7 inches Saturday night, while North Myrtle Beach accumulated over 15 inches worth of water in the past few days. South Carolina's Greenville-Spartanburg Airport got 2.3 inches of rain Saturday, breaking the record of 0.77 inches back in 1961, according to NWS meteorologist John Tomko. Southeast Hit by 'Historic' Rainfall Gusty Wind May Add to Weather Risks on Soggy East Coast On Sunday, the rain will begin to pivot and slip north and east toward the border of North Carolina and South Carolina and near the coastline. The combination of saturated ground and winds will likely bring down trees, as winds along the coastline will be gusting up to 30 miles per hour. At least five weather-related deaths were reported when the rains began to blanket the Eastern Seaboard, according to the Associated Press. A flash flood emergency was issued for Berkeley and Charleston counties, with catastrophic flash flooding expected, according to NWS. A flash flood emergency was also issued for southern portions of Dorchester County, the NWS tweeted, which was characterized as a "life-threatening situation." Meanwhile, Charleston County Emergency Management reported swift water rescues taking place in Charleston, North Charleston, Ladson, Cainhoy and Awendaw, with evacuations continuing in Shadowmoss. Mario Formisano, emergency management director for Dorchester County, said that the flooding has been widespread and that there were about 140 rescues Saturday evening into Sunday morning. He added that SUVs and trucks were being used to rescue trapped residents, and that those rescued or evacuated were taken to Summerville High School. According to the South Carolina Emergency Management Division early Sunday morning, more than 29,000 electric customers were without power throughout the state. It also reported that there are 83 road closures across South Carolina, 46 of them in Charleston County. In downtown Charleston Saturday, roads were closed to incoming traffic as rain flooded roads and left some drivers stranded as their vehicles were surrounded by water. Meanwhile, inland parts of South Carolina were also hit hard by the rain. The mid-Atlantic region was also affected by flooded roads and power outages were reported in several states. On Friday, South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley emphasized the seriousness of the storm during a press conference: "We're going see rainfall at historic levels. This will be a historic rainfall event that we've never seen before in South Carolina." In response to the storm, President Obama declared a state of emergency in South Carolina, which will bring federal assistance to state and local efforts. Rachel Katz, Will Gretsky, and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

We need all parties to collaborate to ensure the future of North Carolina is bright. Who is in charge of North Carolina’s future? Do you believe our state is on the right track? Who has the plan to make North Carolina a world leader in...job creation, and job retention? A world leader in education? and quality of life? Who has a plan for a strong business climate? Who has a plan for the millions of people projected to move here between now and 2030? Are we creating enough private sector jobs? Are our roads and bridges ready? What about our schools? Do we have enough clean water? Enough energy capacity? What are we going to do about it? What are you going to do about it? Do we want North Carolina to be the state where businesses relocate? Or a state that creates new businesses? Why not both? North Carolinians are hardworking, and innovative. If North Carolina were a country, its GDP would be 28th in the world, and we’re on track to be the 7th most populous state in the country...And, we are powered by world-class higher education. Rivers touch some aspect of our lives everyday, quietly serving a need for drinking water, farming, power, industry and recreation. In the spring of 2008, educator Ian Sanchez kayaked from the mountains to the sea, making connections between our cultural and natural landscapes. The redesign of Riverventure.org's Web of Water feature includes videos shot on location of Ian's three week adventure, teacher and student resources, map and diagram collections, and additional streaming video from the broadcast documentary. Fall Colors Hika at Kings Mountain South Carolina! Hiked from Kings Mountain National Park in South Carolina to Lake Crawford. The hike is about 6 miles round trip. We wanted to check out some fall colors. Original plan was to head out to Crowders Mountain but ended up here. It was a pretty good hike, not a very difficult one however very scenic. Lake Crawford has a small waterfall / dam built, but only has water falling over it when there has been a lot of rain. During this trip the water was still and waterfall was dry. We got to see some beautiful fall colors. I tried to capture some of the scenic shots. Kings Mountain Drone shots were captured by the Lake Crawford. Hope you enjoyed it! Puerto Rico's governor declared a state of emergency Monday ahead of powerful Hurricane Irma. The National Guard was also activated as the U.S. territory prepares for the storm to hit on Wednesday, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said. “Despite the economic challenges Puerto Rico is facing, the approved budget has $15 million for the emergency fund,” Gov. Ricardo Rosselló said in a statement. Government workers on the islands of the eastern Caribbean are clearing drains and pruning trees as authorities urge residents to prepare for Hurricane Irma, a Category 3 storm likely to begin buffeting that area Tuesday. The Antigua and Barbuda weather service said Irma was expected to bring heavy rains, rough surf and high winds. Hurricane watches were posted for Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla, Monserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Martin, Guadeloupe and the British Virgin Islands. The U.S. National Hurricane Center said islands farther north, including the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, should monitor the progress of the storm and be prepared for Irma possibly to head their direction. Long-range forecasts indicated Irma likely would curve to the northwest beginning late Monday and skirt to the north of the islands in the eastern Caribbean on a path that could potentially take it to the U.S. East Coast, but it was too early to make a definitive prediction. Antigua's prime minister, Gaston Browne, urged people to take preventative measures in case the storm should keep on its current arc, saying that should include cleaning drains and removing objects that could be sent flying by high winds. Workers began pruning trees and shrubs to reduce chances for branches to tear down power and phone lines. "The passage of a hurricane is not a matter to be taken lightly, but we must not panic," Browne said in a statement. The U.S. hurricane center said Irma had maximum sustained winds of 115 mph (185 kph) Monday morning and some strengthening was expected through Tuesday night. The storm was centered about 625 miles (1,010 kilometers) east of the Leeward Islands and moving west-southwest at 14 mph (22 kph). Puerto Rico's governor, Ricard Rossello, said government agencies in the U.S. territory were prepared to deal with any emergencies caused by the storm. "We have established protocols for the safety of all," he said at a news conference, while he also urged islanders to take precautions. In the Dominican Republic, Public Works Minister Gonzalo Castillo said workers there were clearing away road works and also cleaning out blockages of sewer drains. He said President Danilo Medina would hold a meeting with emergencies agencies Monday to discuss storm preparations. The Associated Press contributed to this report.

In which Craig Benzine teaches you about the compromises met in ratifying the U.S. Constitution. The United State’s didn’t always have its current system of government. Actually, this is it’s second attempt. Craig will delve into the failures (and few successes) of the Articles of Confederation, tell you how delegates settled on a two-house system of representation, discuss the issues of slavery and population that have been imbedded into our constitution, and fire up the clone machine to discuss how federalists and anti-federalist opposition provided the U.S. a Bill of Rights. And who knows, maybe all this talk of compromise will even inspire Craig and eagle to find some middle ground. RODANTHE, N.C. (AP) -- Hurricane Arthur gained strength in the Atlantic on Thursday and threatened to strike near the North Carolina coast on Independence Day, prompting thousands of vacationers and residents to leave parts of the state's popular but flood-prone Outer Banks. Nichole Specht, 27, and Ryan Witman, 28, had pre-loaded their Honda CRV and left Hatteras Island at 3:30 a.m. Thursday, beating the expected traffic jam. The island was under an evacuation order, with no traffic allowed in. Officials asked an estimated 35,000 residents and travelers to leave through North Carolina Highway 12, the only road on and off Hatteras. Specht and Witman found the road wide open for their return home to Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Specht said her parents left their rental later, at 5 a.m., and also found clear sailing. "We were just saying we were really, really lucky this year that the weather was so great, and then this," Specht said as she ended a two-week vacation that included scouting sites for the couple's wedding next year. Forecasters expect Arthur to speed up to a Category 2 storm and pass over or near the Outer Banks - a 200-mile string of narrow barrier islands with about 57,000 permanent residents - early Friday, bringing rain, heavy winds, storm surge and dangerous rip currents. Category 2 hurricanes pack winds of more than 96 mph. "We don't know for sure if the exact center of Arthur is going to pass over land or not. The chances have been increasing for that to occur with the last couple of forecasts. But even if the exact center doesn't go over you, you will experience impacts tonight. The weather is going downhill in North Carolina, even as we speak," said Rick Knabb, the director of the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami. Before the storm hit, tourism officials had expected 250,000 people to travel to the Outer Banks for the holiday weekend. Gov. Pat McCrory sought to strike a balance between a stern warning to vacationers and optimism that part of the busy weekend could be salvaged. On Wednesday, he warned people: "Don't put your stupid hat on." But the next day, even as the storm gathered strength, he said: "Of course, this holiday weekend, the July 4th weekend, is one of the biggest weekends for coastal tourism in the state, and we anticipate a beautiful weekend after the Tropical Storm Arthur or the Hurricane Arthur is out of North Carolina." Some visitors stayed put, hopeful the fast-moving storm would follow predictions to pass through by Friday afternoon. About 20 miles north of the only bridge off Hatteras, Sean Fitzgerald and his 5-year-old son, Cade, enjoyed a sunny morning lounging in beach chairs in the town of Kill Devil Hills. The sand was dotted with tourists. A handful of surfers took to the water. Like all areas north of Oregon Inlet, Kill Devils Hills wasn't under an evacuation. Fitzgerald said he saw no need to disrupt his family's vacation. "I plan to sit on the beach as long as the sun is here," then head out for a seafood dinner, said Fitzgerald, 44, of Fairfax, Virginia. Those who don't evacuate the islands should prepare for possibly getting stuck for several days without food, water or power, National Hurricane Center forecaster Stacy Stewart said Thursday. "We want the public to take this system very seriously, go ahead and start their preparations because time is beginning to run out," he said. Arthur, the first named storm of the Atlantic season, prompted a hurricane warning for much of the North Carolina coast. Tropical storm warnings were in effect for coastal areas in South Carolina and Virginia. On the Outer Banks' Ocracoke Island, accessible only by ferry, a voluntary evacuation was underway. Officials said ferry service would end at 5 p.m. Before sunset Wednesday on Highway 12, a long line of cars, trailers and recreational vehicles formed a steady stream of traffic. The road has been sliced apart twice in recent years as storms cut temporary channels from the ocean to the sound. N.C. 12 is easily blocked by sand and water.

Stephen Curry takes on a 7-year old Filipino cute who shows some of his dribbling skills to the MVP earlier. Stephen was impressed with the kid's talents and degree of crossover moves, and complimented him "He's on his way. Seven years old, I can't do that at seven." This 7-year old kid's real name is Dominic Tuason, and he might be the another version of "Terrence Romeo" in a decade. Under Armour(UA) is shuttling Stephen Curry around Asia, as part of a promotional push for his latest signature kicks, the Curry 2. Just a month ago, LeBron James also visited Manila as a part of the Nike RISE tour program back in August 2015. Curry also played a full court match with the national basketball team of Manila, Smart Gilas Pilipinas at the Mall of Asia Arena. ● Stephen Curry left his initial basketball endorsement Nike, and signed with Under Armour(UA) in 2013 instead. Under Armour(UA) had signed Curry to a contract extension through the year 2024, which is worth close to $4 million per year. Stephen Curry has been one of the hottest names on the endorsement trail as well, locking up partnerships with Under Armour(UA), 2K Sports, Express, State Farm Insurance, Unilever's Degree, JP Morgan Chase, Muscle Milk, JBL Headphones, Nissan's luxury cars brand INFINITI, Vivo smartphones, Brita Water, and ZAMST. He was also featured in an Apple commercial to promote the iPhone 6s. Curry also got a major boost after soccer star Lionel Messi posted a picture to Instagram holding up an autographed Curry jersey to his 30 million followers. Curry has played a vital part in Under Armour’s recent success after appearing in two of the brands notable campaigns. He appeared in the “Book of Will” ad alongside Oscar winner Jamie Foxx, who played a Mars Blackmon-esque character as Curry’s hypeman, telling fans how the reigning MVP reached his current perch. He was also featured in the brand’s “Rule Yourself” campaign that preaches the importance of training. Under Armour(UA) first hooked up with a pro basketball player when it signed Brandon Jennings back in 2008. By partnering with the sharpshooting Mr. Curry, Under Armour(UA) is hitching itself to one of the fastest-rising NBA stars. Fast-rising Under Armour(UA), which was founded back in 1996, has a goal of eventually toppling Nike to become the world's top retail sports brand. In 2014, he also launched Three-For-Three Challenge, in which he will donate 3 bed mosquito nets to people in Africa to prevent malaria, for every 3-pointer he makes during the season. Curry made 286 3-pointers in the 2014-2015 NBA season, so he donated 858 nets. In 2017, The limited-edition “Nothing But Nets” sneaker is part of Curry’s fight against malaria. For every pair of the new $120 Under Armour(UA) Curry 4 sneakers sold, the Warriors guard will donate an insecticide-treated bed net aimed at protecting kids, refugees and families from malaria. Later in 2017, Curry made an appearance at a convocation Wednesday at Liberty University, where his brother Seth Curry attended college, to help support the “Kick’n It” foundation’s drive to donate 20,000 pairs of shoes to children in the Republic of Congo, in helping to put shoes on the feet of disadvantaged children around the world. Back on December 18, 2017, there was a claim from both Sean “Diddy” Combs and Stephen Curry in saying they were interested to buy the NFL American football team Carolina Panthers, which is also home to Stephen Curry's family in Charlotte, North Carolina. Back in 2016, the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) of which Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant are executives contributed over $15 million a year to fund health insurance plans for most retired NBA players. The plan gives all retired players who played at least three years health insurance until they are eligible for Medicare. Players with at least 7 years in the league get lowered costs, while players who played 10 seasons have their families covered by the insurance plans. ● Stephen Curry's Complete UA Merchandise Collection : https://www.underarmour.com/en-us/stephen-curry ● Holding numerous records related to 3-point shooting, Curry has played 8 seasons in the NBA, where he is a 3-time All-Star, 2-time Most Valuable Player, and a 2-time NBA champion. He is also the Warriors franchise leader in Points in the Playoffs. Golden State Warriors had faced the Cleveland Cavaliers for 3 consecutive years starting from 2015-2017 NBA Finals. Stephen Curry won his 1st NBA Championship in 2015 back at the Quicken Loans Arena, followed by the Cavaliers taking back the title in 2016 at the Oracle Arena, and last year's 2017 NBA Champion was claimed by the Warriors at the Oracle Arena. ● FACEBOOK : https://www.facebook.com/jimmyballers20

Part 2 of Eric Byler's conversation about Donald Trump's pitch to African Americans at North Carolina A & T State University, a Historic Black College credited with launching the sit-in movement that helped to end Jim Crow segregation in the South. In this segment we zero in on conservative views on public education since Brown v. Board of Education (1954). With polls showing Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump trailing all other presidential candidates at 2% approval with African American voters, a campaign revamp has included a week of orchestrated outreach, including speeches in front of mostly white audiences and a visit to Great Faith Ministries an African American church in Detroit, Michigan. Detroit and Chicago, IL are two examples of cities that Donald Trump says have been poorly managed since the period of "white flight" and jurisdictional segregation that turned American's inner cities into "ghettos" during and after the Civil Rights movement. "What do you have to lose by voting Trump?" he wants to know. Part 2 in an ongoing series. His parents came to America from Cuba in 1956 to pursue a better life. His father became a bartender, and his mother became a cashier, a maid and a Kmart stock clerk. Growing up in Las Vegas and Miami, Marco watched how his parents worked hard and sacrificed to give their children a life better than their own. They never made it big, but they were successful. They achieved the American Dream. And that is why he is running for president. For too many people, the American Dream feels impossible. Opportunity and success seems far away. But Marco has worked tirelessly to restore the hope and promise that the American Dream is real and that every American can achieve their own unique version of that dream. As U.S. Senator, Marco has led a bold offensive to institute innovative, conservative ideas to address the fundamental issues our country is facing and to restore hope in the American Dream. His ideas are firmly rooted in this simple truth – the American economy has changed significantly in recent decades and our policies must change with it. He has proposed conservative reforms to our nation’s anti-poverty laws, tax code, regulatory policies, higher education system, vital senior safety net programs and national defense. For Marco, this country has provided him so much -- the chance to graduate from the University of Florida and then the University of Miami’s law school. The chance to marry his wife Jeanette in 1998, with whom he is raising four children: Amanda, Daniella, Anthony and Dominick. And the chance for both of them to give back through public service as a West Miami city commissioner; a Florida state legislator that rose to become majority whip, majority leader and speaker of the house; and since 2011, as a U.S. Senator. For all the opportunities this country has provided Marco and his family, including all that Jeanette has accomplished through her charitable work, he is indebted to this great country. He believes that he owes America for the opportunities that this country has given him and his family. He believes the American Dream is still possible for all Americans. But make no mistake: it will require new leadership and a bold conservative reform agenda built for the 21st century.
