To support our channel and level up your health, check out: Our Fast Weight Loss Course: http://thehealthnerds.com/the-science-of-fast-weight-loss-course Our Better Health Basics Course: http://thehealthnerds.com/food-health-happiness Today, we’re going to be answering the question of what does sugar do to your body and the 10 negative effects of sugar. #1. Sugar can give you wrinkles and adds age to your face Scientists from the Leiden University Medical Centre, in the Netherlands, measured the blood sugar levels of 600 men and women aged between 50 and 70. In fact, for every 1mm/liter increase in blood sugar, the perceived age of that person rose by five months. http://www.research.leiden.edu/news/looking-older-blood-sugar-plays-a-role.html #2. Sugar is Also Associated With Acne Foods ranked high on the Glycemic Index such as sugar and refined carbs have been associated with greater amounts of acne on the face and body according to the latest research. A study of Australian men showed that those who ate a diet with a low glycemic load saw a great reduction in overall acne. It was a small study with only 23 men but is still food for thought. https://www.aad.org/media/news-releases/growing-evidence-suggests-possible-link-between-diet-and-acne #3. Sugary drinks cause an 83% increase in developing type II diabetes In one study of 91,249 women showed those who consumed 1 sugar-sweetened beverage a day had an 83% increased risk of developing type II diabetes compared to those who had only 1 a month. #4. People who eat sugar are at a much higher risk of cancer There has been a direct link seen between breast, and colon cancer with sugar consumption. http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/0306987783900956 http://cebp.aacrjournals.org/content/6/9/677.short This is likely due to the fact that insulin is one of the key factors behind the growth and multiplication of cells, and sugar spikes insulin to abnormally high levels. #5. Sugar Can Ruin Your Teeth A study by the American Journal of clinical nutrition showed that sugar destroys the healthy bacteria in our mouth. This can cause tooth erosions and may dim that bright smile. http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/78/4/881S.full What about sugar and weight gain? There are 5 proven reason sugar leads to added weight gain... #6. Sugar is the premier definition of empty calories. It has no real nutritional value, no nutrients, no minerals, no proteins, and no fiber. Because of this lack of nutrients… #7. Sugar makes you feel hungry In a study by Yale University, those that consumed sugar had an INCREASED appetite and desire for more food. http://yaledailynews.com/blog/2013/01/15/overeating-linked-to-sugar-consumption/ So not only does sugar fill you with empty calories, it makes you want more of those calories. This process happens because sugar screws up hormonal levels in the body. Which leads to #8. Sugar blocks leptin and raises insulin to supernatural levels Leptin is a hormone in charge of telling us we’re full and need to stop eating. It also tells us we have energy and should go out and use that energy. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18703413 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15111494 Sugar consumption blocks this hormone from doing its job and from reaching the brain. http://nutritionandmetabolism.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1743-7075-2-5 9. Sugar causes belly fat Numerous studies have shown direct links from sugar to increased accumulation of belly fat. Despite knowing all this, it’s hard to stop eating sugar because http://www.jci.org/articles/view/37385 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19248858 #10. Sugar is addictive Similar to drugs like cocaine, scientists have now shown that sugar causes a very similar release of dopamine in the brain. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2235907 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2851032/ Studies on neuroplasticity have shown that drug users have similar behavioral addictions to those addicted to sugar. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3139704/ Point black. Sugar is ADDICTING and comes without the immediate social repercussions of frequent drug use. That’s why it’s so hard to stop eating it. How much should you eat per day? None. There is not a reason to be eating this food in your diet, but only on the rare occasion as a treat. What about fruit? Fruit has fiber, vitamins, minerals, water, and tons of nutrients that refined sugar does not have. http://www.bmj.com/content/347/bmj.f5001 Sticking to whole sources like apples, oranges, and berries are a better idea. What should you do if you can’t stop eating sugar? I think this subject needs to be covered in greater detail, so either next week or sometime soon we will be making a video about breaking sugar addiction if that’s something you guys want.

Cancer is multifaceted, and generally treated with big pharma products, like chemicals, radiation, and chemotherapy. What if there were foods that naturally killed cancer ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpHcLxD8Drk Please subscribe and watch this video until the end to know the complete information. These are the 5 foods that help get rid of cancer cells developing in our bodies. 1. THE BLUEBERRY And RASPBERRY EFFECT. Blueberries and raspberries are plants that are well known by their anti cancer capabilities, especially when it comes to ovarian cancer. Phytochemicals are the reason why they have their dark hue. and the secret of their effectiveness, which are proven to be great for cancer prevention. 2. GREEN TEA. Tea is the best source of catechins in the human diet, and green tea contains about three times the quantity of catechins found in black tea. In laboratory studies, green tea has been shown to slow or completely prevent cancer development in colon, liver, breast and prostate cells. 3. THE TOMATO EFFECT. According to recent Harvard research, there is up to 50% reduction in chances for prostate cancer in people who regularly ate cooked tomatoes. It was proven that tomatoes are incredibly effective in inhibiting the angiogenesis, and the reason why this fruit is so effective is that they contain high amounts of a substance called lycopene, which has strong anti angiogenic properties. In addition, lycopene concentration increases when it is subjected to higher temperatures. That is why cooked tomatoes are very effective when it comes to stopping cancer growth. 4. DARK CHOCOLATE. For many people this is almost unbelievable. Dark chocolate is an incredibly tasty dessert, which also happens to be incredibly healthy to eat, it is good for your heart condition, your overall happiness and also for fighting cancer cells. 5. These Foods Make Cancer Cells Grow in Your Body! Stop Eating Them to Avoid Cancer! - cancer foods Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUxKlAVpt5s Please subscribe our channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/livehealthylifeofficial Like us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Live-Healthy-Life-1645151002425115 Follow us on Twitter : https://twitter.com/livehealthylif1 Follow us on Google+ : https://plus.google.com/+LiveHealthyLifeofficial These Foods Make Cancer Cells Grow in Your Body! Stop Eating Them to Avoid Cancer! We have come to know, through medical research and ancestral wisdom, that there are foods that contain certain nutrients that prevent and / or kill cancer cells in the body. But are there foods that cause cancer to develop and grow? You gamble. Below are cancer-causing foods that avoid cancer; They can not directly cause cancer, but they do contribute to the condition. Refined sugar Cancer cells eat sugar to meet their extreme energy needs. The less processed sugars and sweeteners you eat, the lower the risk of developing cancer. Refined sugar (white) has no nutritional value, its only value lies in its taste. Stolen from its nutritional components during processing, all that is left at the end of the process is really just cancer in a bag. That's not to say that you should cut out all the carbohydrates in your diet - every cell in your body uses glucose (the most fundamental form of sugar) for energy. Your metabolism works every minute of every day to break down the foods you eat into glucose, lipids and proteins to nourish your body. The critical difference between carbohydrates and simple sugar is the complexity and availability of glucose. Refined sugars already break down and are easily absorbed into the bloodstream, causing an increase in insulin production and an increase in blood sugar. Chronic overuse of refined sugar can overload the pancreas, leading to diabetes. Genetically modified organisms Transgenic foods have been the subject of controversy since 1982, when the Food and Drug Administration approved the first GMO for human consumption: humulin, a synthetic insulin. There is a great deal of research on the safety of GMOs in food; But depending on who funded the study, the findings differ. With the extreme power of GMO companies, many researchers are trying to find out the truth about the long-term health and environmental consequences of transgenic foods. Independent studies found direct links between GMOs and the development of numerous conditions, including autism, liver and kidney disorders, neurodegenerative diseases and cancer. Popcorn Microwave foods can be easy, quick and convenient, but they are also toxic. The coatings on the bags on which microwave popcorn is sold contain harmful chemicals. Manufacturers soak the popcorn kernels to leave more effectively in a solution that includes a chemical also found in the lighter liquid. The flavoring of butter contains diacetyl, an agent that has been found to cause a condition known as "popcorn lung". Organic popcorn is a healthy treat: cook it in the coconut oil stove and sprinkle with nutritional yeast for a cheesy, nutritious and satisfying snack. Processed potatoes The problem with these amazing snacks is three times: 1. When cooked in oil at high temperatures, the acrylamide compound will develop in most carbohydrates. This is a natural process and in normal amounts, ie what happens if a whole potato is baked in the oven, for example, acrylamide is metabolized effortlessly by the body. 2. In mass production, however, the amount of this chemical increases exponentially, containing up to 910 times the legal limit in a bag of chips. Regular ingestion of acrylamide and similar cooking by-products has been associated with cancer risk. 3. Many brands of French fries contain artificial colors, flavors and preservatives, all of which have health implications. They are also loaded with fat and empty calories. Why can not you just eat one? "The Dorito Effect". The aromas used in chips and other snacks are intentionally misleading and addictive. Processed meat Meat products like hotdogs, sausages and deli meats are loaded with chemicals to extend shelf life. Since they contain cancer-causing nitrates, infant consumption of these foods is related to leukemia, brain cancer and pancreatic cancer. And it's not just lunch meat that can affect your health: A study published in the BMC Medicine found that a high intake of red meat was associated with increased all-cause mortality, including death from cancer. Energy Drinks Although there is no scientific link between energy drinks and cancer, doctors advise against consuming too much caffeine and sugar, both of which are main ingredients in energy drinks. Research finds that adults should have only one serving per day. Due to recent evidence linking daily energy drink intake to heart abnormalities and seizures, regular consumption of energy drinks is not recommended.

Eating too much sugar can seriously affect your health. What will happen to your heart, brain, and skin, if you quit sugar at least for a week? Eating too much sugar leads to weight gain, sharp mood swings, and even addiction. Some nutritionists consider sugar to be even more dangerous than fat, but we still don’t pay enough attention to the amount of sugar we consume every day. What will happen to you if you quit sugar at least for a week? Well, the changes are going to be incredible! We're going to tell you how you'll feel if you stop eating donuts and if it’s even worth the effort. You'll overcome a serious addiction 0:55 Your breath will be better 1:33 You’ll increase your brain power 2:13 You’ll be less likely to have Alzheimer’s disease 2:44 Your skin will look younger 3:11 Your heart will thank you 3:36 You’ll have less bad cholesterol 4:09 You’ll have a much better mood 4:29 You'll finally get a good sleep 5:04 You’ll be less likely to have diabetes 5:35 You'll lower the risk of having cancer 6:03 Your eyesight will be sharper 6:23 You'll lose weight fast 6:50 You'll see your doctor less often 7:22 You'll save a crazy amount of money 7:57 SUMMARY - Studies show (and that might sound shocking) that sugar is actually more addictive than cocaine! Lab rats were given cocaine until they became addicted to it. - Sugar is often linked to the development of numerous lung conditions, so lowering sugar intake results in weakening asthma symptoms. - Studies have shown that sugar hinders such activities as learning and memorizing things. - A study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition suggests that giving up sugar may result in your acne disappearing. Sugar is inflammatory, and inflammation is known as a cause of acne. - People who eat too much sugar have a much higher risk of having a heart attack. - High sugar intake raises levels of bad cholesterol and blood fats that can clog your blood vessels, leading to severe heart conditions that can be a huge threat to your life. - Studies found that people, who eat very little sugar or none at all, are rarely diagnosed with depression. - You will be very active throughout the day and ready to sleep when the bedtime comes. Your day/night cycle will be more naturally balanced. - When you eat too much glucose, high insulin resistance develops. It means that sugar can’t get into your cells and can get stuck in the bloodstream. - Pancreatic cancer is often linked to high sugar intake. However, the results of the studies haven’t been entirely consistent; it’s better not to take the risk on this one. - Sugar also affects the health of your eyes. Fluctuations of insulin and glucose levels lead to vessel damage and decrease blood supply to your eyes. - When you eat a lot of sugar, especially fructose, you are very likely to overeat. The pancreas is forced to produce more insulin, so other hormones that regulate metabolism, digestion, and weight are neglected. - Your immune system is seriously affected by consumption of large amounts of sugar. You are protected from bacteria and viruses by white blood cells. - Stop eating sugar and spending money on doctors, dentists, those expensive acne concealers and sweet food and drinks that only harm you. We know some products are really dangerous for our health, and other products are good for us as they are healthy. It turns out it’s not so simple and some of the most promoted and popular foods can, in fact, harm you. Never eat these 10 dangerous foods for the sake of your own health and the health of your family. Even if you see the juice labels “not from concentrate” or “100% pure”, don't let this fool you. Juice, after being squeezed from different fruits, is kept in huge vacuum-sealed tanks where it can sit for up to a year before being packaged! And by that time, the juice has lost all its flavor, which is why manufacturers have to add artificial flavoring to make it taste fruity again. In most cases, cereals are loaded with refined carbohydrates and sugar. Even if the label assures you that it's fat-free and whole grain, check the list of ingredients. You'll most likely see that the product is full of sugar. Despite common belief, most yogurts don't contain probiotic bacteria since the process of pasteurization kills all these microorganisms. When consumed, trans-fats in ice-cream can cause high cholesterol, stroke, heart disease, and even cancer. Ice cream is also loaded with sugar, artificial flavors, and synthetic preservatives. And if it’s pink, purple, or red, it’s most likely been colored with cochineal extract or carmine, additives which can cause bad allergic reactions. Popcorn has some genetically modified ingredients as well as taste-boosting chemicals and additives. This leads to health problems such as heart attacks, digestive issues, allergies, skin rashes, breathing problems, and the depressing list goes on. Even more, popcorn is extremely caloric. Music: Vibe Mountain - Great Hope The 126ers - Reversed Eclipse Rondo Brothers - Yellow Gold Kevin MacLeod - Jay Jay Silent Partner - Pink Lemonade https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music TIMESTAMPS Fruit juices 0:37 Energy bars 1:42 Cereal 2:31 Margarine 3:21 Low-fat yogurt 4:11 Ice cream 5:01 Eggs 6:07 Microwave popcorn 7:09 Sugar-free candy 8:32 Diet soda 9:26 SUMMARY -Store-bought juices may contain some real fruit, but most of their content is water, sugar, and artificial flavoring. -Protein bars and energy bars alike are usually processed products containing sugar, artificial flavors and sweeteners. -Breakfast cereals typically contain a teeny tiny amount of whole grains, which allows producers to mark their product as healthy, but they also contain unhealthy sugar. -Margarine is typically made from industrial vegetable oils hydrogenated to become solid, a process that significantly increases the oils’ trans-fat content. -Manufacturers load “low-fat” yogurts with sugar to make up for the lack of taste usually provided by the natural fats. -Instead of pure milk or cream, manufacturers use cheaper hydrogenated fats such as palm- or coconut oil to produce ice-cream. These oils, when heated, become nothing more than trans-fats. -One egg contains as much cholesterol as a big greasy burger. -Microwave popcorn’s almost always lined with the same toxic substance you can find in Teflon pans. -If candy doesn’t contain sugar, it contains artificial sweeteners such as aspartame, sucralose, and saccharine. These substances are chemically processed and may cause some serious side effects. -Artificial sweeteners in diet soda can easily lead to weight gain as they trigger the production of insulin, which makes your body store fat. Cancer is an abnormal growth of cells with the potential to invade or spread to other parts of the body. There are more than 100 types of cancer, including breast cancer, skin cancer, lung cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, and lymphoma. Possible signs and symptoms include a lump, abnormal bleeding, prolonged cough, unexplained weight loss and a change in bowel movements. Many cancers can be prevented by not smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, not drinking too much alcohol, eating plenty of vegetables, fruits and whole grains and by avoiding many cancer causing foods you probably eat every day. Canned Tomatoes - Canned Tomatoes are not good for your health because the cans which is used to pack tomatoes are lined with a product called bisphenol A, BPA, an endocrine disruptor that may mimic or disrupt hormones and increase the risks for breast cancer, prostate cancer, early puberty, metabolic disorders, infertility, and several other problems. Microwave popcorn - Microwave popcorn is one of the most popular snacks in many parts of the world. But there are two safety issues involving the chemicals added into many brands of microwave popcorn. The first stems from the use of diacetyl in artificial butter flavor. Diacetyl appears to damage lungs when it is repeatedly inhaled in vaporized form. The other issue is with the lining of popcorn bags. Genetically modified foods- GMOs are grown using harmful chemicals and, when consumed, can lead to immune system, brain and liver damage. After GMO’s were introduced in 1996, GM vegetables fed to rats caused development of horrifying tumors. Soda Pop - Sodas are loaded with sugar and an empty source of calories that cause weight gain and contribute to the nationwide epidemic of obesity. Drinking large amounts of this rapidly digested sugar causes your blood sugar to spike which can lead to both inflammation and insulin resistance. Hydrogenated oils - Hydrogenated oils are vegetable oils, which cannot be naturally extracted like olive oil, soy or canola oil, they are chemically extracted from vegetables and is again chemically treated to change the smell and taste. This process turns unsaturated fat into a stable solid fat, resulting in trans fatty hydrogenated oil which is considered to be the worst type of fat and is known to cause cancer, heart disease, and immune system problems. Refined sugar and artificial sweeteners - Refined sugar, artificial sweeteners and fructose-rich sweeteners like high-fructose corn syrup are detrimental for your health. These products tend to rapidly spike insulin levels and feed the growth of cancer cells. Farmed salmon - Farmed salmon is nowhere near as healthy as wild salmon, and eating farmed salmon puts you at a higher risk of developing cancer. Farm-raised fish are fed unnatural diets and contaminated with chemicals, antibiotics, pesticides and other known carcinogens found in materials like asbestos. Processed meats or red meat - Processed meats such as ham, sausage and bacon have chemicals and preservatives like sodium nitrates, which make them bad for your health. In addition, processed meat contains excessive salt, which is also not good for you. In a 2008 study published in the Nutrition and Cancer journal, researchers found that processed meat intake might be involved in the etiology of colorectal cancer. Pickled and smoked foods - Pickled and smoked foods are delicious but, at the same time, very harmful to the body. In fact, smoked meats that pick up tar from the smoking process cause extreme harm to your body. Plus, most pickled foods contain nitrates that turn into N-nitroso, which increases your risk of cancer. Alcohol - Drinking too much alcohol is not good for your health and can put you at certain types of developing cancer risks. Regularly drinking a large glass of wine a day can increase the risk of mouth, upper throat, oesophageal also known as food pipe, breast and bowel cancers. When you drink alcohol, it is converted into a toxic chemical called acetaldehyde in your body. Protein consumption can exacerbate the insulin spike from high glycemic foods. Subscribe to Dr. Greger’s free nutrition newsletter at https://www.nutritionfacts.org/subscribe and get a free recipe from his new HOW NOT TO DIE COOKBOOK. (All proceeds Dr. Greger receives from the sales of his books, DVDs, and speaking engagements go to support the 501c3 nonprofit that runs NutritionFacts.org.) This one is a little twisty and might require a second watch or two. Instead of breaking this into multiple videos I tried to pack it all into one. Basically, the question is if the modern diabetes epidemic in China and Japan has been linked to white rice consumption, but how can we reconcile that with low diabetes rates just a few decades ago when they ate even more rice? The protein exacerbation of the effect of refined carbs could help explain the remarkable results achieved by Dr. Kempner with a don’t-try-this-at-home diet composed of mostly white rice and sugar. See Kempner Rice Diet: Whipping Us Into Shape (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/kempner-rice-diet-whipping-us-into-shape/). Refined grains may also not be good for our blood pressure (Whole Grains May Work As Well As Drugs http://nutritionfacts.org/video/whole-grains-may-work-as-well-as-drugs/). Does sugar cause cancer? All of your cells need glucose for energy. Old cells are replaced with new cells. Cancer develops when old cells keep growing instead of dying. Warburg a scientist and a Nobel prize winner, studied cancer cells. He stated that cancer cells converted sugar into energy without using oxygen. Warburg thought cancer is genetic mutation. Certain proteins, sugar are known to increase tumours. People having sweet tooth will become obese. Obesity is linked with hormonal imbalance and cancer. Processed sugar is bad for cancer patients. It may make the cancer grow. Be smart about intake of sugar. Avoid processes food and fruit juice concentrate. Cut off sugar loaded foods like chocolates, bakery products and sodas to remain cancer free. Consume a healthy diet which includes Omega 3 fatty acids, leafy vegetables and whole grains. It is okay to eat some natural sugars like fruits. Sugar itself does not cause cancer. Regular exercise and nutritious food are the key for good health. High sugar levels in your body may cause metabolic disorders or diabetes 2. You should not prevent consuming healthy sugars. This may lead to a condition similar to stress. Physical activity causes the cells to utilize glucose more efficiently. Processed sugar is your enemy. Diabetes is a group of metabolic diseases in which there are high blood sugar levels over a prolonged period. Symptoms of high blood sugar include frequent urination, increased thirst, and increased hunger. If left untreated, diabetes can cause many serious long-term complications which include heart disease, stroke, chronic kidney failure, foot ulcers, and damage to the eyes.Control of blood pressure and maintaining proper foot care are important for people with the disease. The most important factor that affects both type 1 and type 2 diabetes is diet, and a well-planned diet can work effectively in maintaining blood glucose at healthy levels. Here we have a list of top 10 worst foods that every diabetics should avoid. White rice White rice can affect your blood sugar levels. According to a newly study published by Harvard researchers, those who ate the highest amounts of white rice had a 27% higher risk of diabetes than those who ate the least. Potatoes Potatoes are not a good food choice for diabetics due to a relatively low nutrient density and high levels of quickly absorbed carbohydrates. It has a high glycemic index value, which means that the carbohydrate in them is quickly converted to glucose when digested, and can cause blood sugar and insulin levels to rise. It is also associated with an increased risk of type 2 diabetes. Cakes and Pastries. Cakes and pastries are not good for diabetics as they are loaded with sugar, sodium, junky white flour and preservatives. Their dangerous combo of sugar and refined flour spikes blood sugar and promotes inflammation, which interferes with insulin’s ability to function properly. Soft Drinks and Energy Drinks. Soft drinks and energy drinks are the worst type of drink for diabetics, they are loaded with calories that lead to weight gain and people who are overweight are at a higher risk of developing diabetes compared to those with the healthy weight. French Fries French fries are starchy vegetables that have a worst impact on your blood sugar levels. These fries soak a lot of oil and lead to excess weight gain. A small, 85-gram serving of fast-food French fries contains 33 grams of carbohydrates, including 3 grams of fiber. Raisins Raisins contain a concentrated level of sugars, which will be quickly absorbed by the body and lead to a sudden spike in blood glucose level that is extremely harmful to people suffering from diabetes. White Bread White bread is made with white flour that contain refined starch, which is one of the most dangerous foods for diabetics. These refined carbohydrates have a high glycemic index that causes a rapid rise in blood sugar levels, which is extremely harmful to diabetic patients. Palm oil Palm oil contain high amount of saturated fat that raises blood cholesterol levels. High blood cholesterol is a risk factor for heart disease. People with diabetes are at high risk of heart disease and limiting your saturated fat can help lower your risk of having a heart attack or stroke. Coffee Drinks Coffee contain caffeine which has been shown in the short term to increase both glucose and insulin levels. Because of this, people with diabetes should be cautious when consuming coffee. Fruit Juices People with diabetes need to moderate their fruit juice intake as larger glasses of juice can substantially raise blood sugar levels. Regular consumption of fruit juice has been linked with an increase in type 2 diabetes risk.

Confused about how much protein you should eat while on a ketogenic diet? Recent studies have shown that even if you do eat high-protein diet while you’re in ketosis, you can maintain high levels of beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB), the main ketone body. -----------------------------------------Lets Connect-------------------------------------- ➢ Facebook https://www.facebook.com/MikeMutzelMS ➢ Listen to the Audio in iTunes: http://highintensityhealth.com/itunes ➢ Deanna's Instagram https://www.instagram.com/realfoodlab ➢ Mike's Instagram https://www.instagram.com/metabolic_mike --------------------------------------Key Takeaways---------------------------------- Confused about how much protein you should eat while on a ketogenic diet? Recent studies have shown that even if you do eat high-protein diet while you’re in ketosis, you can maintain high levels of beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB), the main ketone body. This research suggests (and self-experimentation confirms) that gluconeogenesis happens--both ketones and glucogenic amino acids make glucose--but that doesn't mean you're going to get fat as a result or that it'll affect your blood sugar. (In my opinion, the ability to utilize different substrates is a sign of metabolic flexibility, which is overall a good thing.) Lastly, elevated levels of beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) while eating a low-carb, high-fat, high-protein diet maybe linked with the increased satiety, decreased appetite and decreased blood glucose levels. So while gluconeogenesis exists, it may in fact have a thermogenic effect, and is not necessarily a bad thing! Prediabetes and type 2 diabetes are caused by a drop in insulin sensitivity blamed on “intramyocellular lipid,” the buildup of fat inside our muscle cells. Subscribe to Dr. Greger’s free nutrition newsletter at http://www.nutritionfacts.org/subscribe and get a free excerpt from his latest NYT Bestseller HOW NOT TO DIE. (All proceeds Dr. Greger receives from the sales of his books, DVDs, and speaking engagements go to support the 501c3 nonprofit that runs NutritionFacts.org.) DOCTOR’S NOTE: If this video sounds familiar, it’s because it’s a redux of a video that I put out last year. But, it lacked this fancy new animation, courtesy of Scientific Animations: www.scientificanimations.com. They contacted me, and graciously offered to donate an animation to us—I love it! If there is anyone else out there who would like to kindly offer their services to help us better help others, we’d love to see it. This was the first of a three-part video series on the cause of type 2 diabetes, so as to better understand dietary interventions to prevent and treat the epidemic. The follow-up videos are The Spillover Effect Links Obesity to Diabetes (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/the-spillover-effect-links-obesity-to-diabetes), in which I talk about how that fat can come either from our diet or excess fat stores; and Lipotoxicity: How Saturated Fat Raises Blood Sugar (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/lipotoxicity-how-saturated-fat-raises-blood-sugar), where I show how not all fats are equally to blame. I mentioned low-carb diets in the video. In this video I take a look at which foods raise insulin the most. The answer may surprise you. High protein diet promoters recommend eating very low to no carbohydrates because they believe if you don’t consume any form of carbs you will not produce as much insulin. They state that protein causes little or no increase in production of insulin. But this may not actually be true? Keep listening to find out more........ In this video, which is a reaction to friend and fellow firefighter being treated for cancer and venturing into a vegan video (and being slandered and attacked - http://tinyurl.com/yjhq5wu ), I respond to the theory that consumption of animal products (aka delicious meat, eggs, and cheese) on a ketogenic diet like Atkins leads to a higher cancer risk. First the detractors and their comments: http://tinyurl.com/yzeaj6u "Another Harvard study showed that women with the highest intake of animal fat seem to have over a 75% greater risk of developing breast cancer. " As one Harvard School of Public health researcher noted, because of the meat content, two years on the Atkins Diet "could initiate a cancer. It could show up as a polyp in 7 years and as colon cancer in ten. The most comprehensive report on diet and cancer in history was published in 1997. It took over four years to complete, reviewing 4500 studies from thousands of researchers across the globe. After all that work, what was their number one recommendation? "Choose a diet that is predominantly plant based, rich in a variety of fruits, vegetables, nuts, and beans with minimally processed starchy foods." In other words, essentially the opposite of the Atkins Diet. (Side note: Do they even know what the Atkins Diet is? Do they understand the promoted variety of vegetables and phyto-nutrients featured?) In the January issue of Scientific American it was noted: "Cancer is most frequent among those branches of the human race where carnivorous habits prevail." In response to these studies, correlation does not equal causality. What else do these carnivorous, which is just more name calling since we are more omnivorious) also eat or do? Do they eat bread with their meat? Do they talk more on their cell phone? What is their total sugar intake in relation to vegans? Here are the mentioned studies: All cancers: Back in the 1920s, Nobel laureate Otto Warburg discovered this particular metabolism, termed aerobic glycolysis, the glycolytic phenotype, or the Warburg effect. Considering the observations discussed above, this strategy could represent a novel and promising approach for a diet-based intervention against aggressive cancer. Sugar consumption is positively associated with cancer in humans and test animals (5861). This observation is quite logical because tumours are known to be enormous sugar absorbers. You may have heard recently about a seemingly freaky new study published in the journal Nature that found a link between sugar and cancer growth.Unfortunately, the details of the study are getting lost in the resulting panic that eating sugar actually causes cancer, which isn’t what the study actually found. For the study , researchers from the University of Texas at Dallas investigated differences in metabolism between two major types of non-small cell lung cancer (one of the kinds of lung cancer that can affect smokers and non-smokers): adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma.Researchers looked at The Cancer Genome Atlas, a large government database that contains information from 11,000 patients who had one of 33 types of cancer. The scientists discovered that a protein that transports glucose (aka sugar) to people’s cells was found in higher levels in lung squamous cell carcinoma than lung adenocarcinoma. The protein, which is called glucose transporter 1, takes glucose into a person’s cells, where it provides energy for those cells.Researchers also looked at cancer cells from human and animal lung tissue and found the same thing: Sugar helped provide fuel to cancer cells in lung squamous cell carcinoma.Scientists also took a look at several other types of squamous cell cancer and found that glucose transporter 1 levels were higher in head and neck, esophageal, and cervical cancer patients. It’s easy to see why people might get lost in the technical aspects of the study and assume it means that sugar causes cancer, but experts say that isn’t the appropriate conclusion to draw—and the relationship between sugar and cancer is much more complicated than that. But Rachele Rojednic, Ph.D.,assistant professor in the nutrition department at Simmons College and staff scientist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, tells SELF that “the leap from this study to ‘don't eat sugar, it causes or feeds cancer’ is like trying to run and jump over the Grand Canyon.”Pojednic also points out one hugely important limitation that's worth noting: Researchers in the study treated cells with five times the amount of glucose that you would ever have in your body, she says, so the effect would be dramatically reduced in real-world situations. With that said, yes, Americans eat too much sugar, and it’s something experts have increasingly warned about. The 2015 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend that people have no more than 10 percent of their daily calories, which is about 12 teaspoons, or 50 grams, of sugar a day.The American Heart Association has stricter guidelines, recommending that women have no more than 25 grams of sugar a day and men have no more than 36 grams of sugar a day. These recommendations are in place to prevent worrisome sugar-related health effects. In the long-term, sugar has been linked with a slew of serious health conditions. While it's complicated and not as easy as saying eating too much sugar directly causes any of the following, research has found a correlation between eating excessive added sugar and heart disease , inflammation , and obesity, among other things, which is why medical experts are urging people to cut back on how much added sugar they eat. They're also cautioning against thinking " real " sugar, which is often advertised as being better than artificial sweeteners, like high-fructose corn syrup, is actually any healthier for you.In reality, "real" sugar is still sugar, and Americans are still eating way too much of it.When it comes to naturally occurring sugars , like the ones in fruit, your body does indeed tend to react to this sweet stuff better than the kind in, say, candy.Fruit comes with added nutrients, like the fiber in a skin's apple, to help slow your body's absorption of sugar. That's why experts recommend eating fruit as part of a balanced meal or snack with some protein and fat to further slow that sugar absorption. But overall, while most Americans eat too much added sugar, many also don't eat enough fruit —you definitely shouldn't cut out the latter in an attempt to fix the former.Cancer is a "really complicated disease" that happens when a person's cells go haywire, Eric Lau, Ph.D.,assistant member of the Chemical Biology and Molecular Medicine Program at Moffitt Cancer Center, tells SELF.That can happen due to genetic mutations , which are typically either inherited (meaning, you get them from your parents) or come about as a result of environmental factors that can cause cell muta

Intake of sugar has been linked to the growth of cancer cells. Going without sugar slows down the ground of the disease. There has been an increase in the amount of sugar consumed over the years which explains the rise in cancer cases. Sugar directly influences can cells. The amount of sugar one consumes can either feed of starve these cells. Ketogenic Diet which is a diet with no sugar and no carbohydrate is believed to slow down cancer in some people. Cancer thrives on glucose from sugar and carbohydrates. Normal cells also feed on glucose but switch over to ketone bodies in the absence of sugar. Cancer cell dose not have that ability. Avoiding sugar could lead to prevention or slowing down of the disease for people fighting the disease.

Watch more How to Understand Heart Disease videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/512525-Can-Sugar-Intake-Cause-Heart-Disease-Heart-Disease Does sugar increase the risk of heart disease? Well, it sure can. For the most part, when people eat a diet high in sugar, they're eating an unhealthy diet. It's usually high in processed foods and high in sugary or fatty foods. That can lead to the development of diabetes, obesity, and high blood pressure. Making those kinds of choices definitely promotes heart disease. It can lead to the buildup of blocked arteries in the heart, something we call "atherosclerosis," and that can lead to heart attack and stroke. Sugar leads to heart disease in a complex way and affects the body's metabolism and the way we handle the intake of food and nutrition. So, a diet high in sugar is usually an unhealthy diet. And you want to stick with the things that are healthier, but we can make healthy choices in regards to sugar intake. If we want to satisfy that sweet tooth, we can always go with something like pure dark chocolate or unprocessed sugary foods. That would be a better way to have sugar in our diet and satisfy our sweet tooth.

The moment your heart stops pumping blood, that is the end of it, we die. Heart is one of the most vital organs of our body. Hence, in order to have a healthy body it is very important to have a healthy heart. So how do we ensure a healthy heart? The food that we eat plays a crucial role in maintaining the heart health. Here is a list of foods which need to be strictly avoided if you want a healthy heart. Well, in the recent times with the sedentary lifestyle and fast moving lives, despite knowing the fact that the food is bad we tend to grab and munch it. As there is no time to cook, to satiate hunger we end up eating outside food. All these will in turn have a bad effect on our heart. It is the heart that pumps the blood through the blood vessel to the entire system, thus providing life to the human being. But when the heart gets affected, it has a tremendous effect on the entire system. In this video we have listed certain foods that need to be avoided in order to prevent heart diseases. Take a look. 1. Processed Meat: Processed meats contain several compounds which help to keep the meat stay fresh for a longer period of time. The processed meats undergo salting, smoking, drying and canning and the compounds used for these processes are harmful for the heart. 2. Soft Drinks: Soft drinks are filled with artificial sweeteners which not only increase the risk of diabetes, but these are also harmful for the heart. 3. Butter: Butter is one of the major ingredients that will lead to increase in the cholesterol level and is bad for the heart health. 4. Soy Sauce: Soy sauce is one food that is bad for our health. It contains a lot of salt and sodium and this might lead to heart problems. 5. Canned Foods: Canned foods contain a lot of preservatives which are added to increase the shelf life. But all the essential nutrients are lost in the process and this will have a bad effect on the heart. 6. Tomato Sauce: The ketchup is filled with artificial flavouring and preservatives which make it tasty but this at the same time adds calories, cholesterol and fats which increase the risk of heart disease. 7. Cheese: Cheese contains high amounts of saturated fat which are bad for the heart. Hence it needs to be avoided. 8. Avoid High Sodium Intake: The more you increase the intake of sodium and salt, it leads to an increase in the risk for heart disease. Hence it should be avoided. 9. Avoid Deep Fried Foods: Deep fried foods are unhealthy. Foods that are fried at high temperatures contain acrylamide, a well known carcinogen. It increases the risk of heart diseases, cholesterol, obesity and cancer as well. 10. Pizzas: Pizzas are packed with cholesterol and fats and it not just leads to weight gain and increase in the blood pressure, but affects the heart as well. 11. Chips: Chips are high in fat and calories and are one of the worst foods for the heart. 12. High Sugar Containing Foods: Candies, cakes and other artificial sugar containing foods must be avoided if you want to have a healthy heart. However, it is always important to have a regular check up of the heart at least once in a year. This helps in preventing heart diseases. Video URL : https://youtu.be/34ORf2mRhhc

Take Dr. Berg's Body Type Quiz: http://bit.ly/BodyTypeQuiz Dr. Eric Berg talks about Sugar and diabetes. Sugar increases insulin which lowers the sugar in the blood and puts it in storage as fat. A healthy diet should consist of fats and moderate amount of proteins. A diabetic diet should have high quantities of fat. Sugar stimulates hunger and you carve for more food. 40 % of all heart diseases are related to excess sugar. Keeping your blood sugar levels in control is a primary objective for a healthy body. The current recommendations for carbohydrates based on the American Diabetes Associations is 45-60 grams of carbohydrates PER MEAL!!!!! not per day, per meal. http://www.diabetes.org/food-and-fitn... blood sugar problems can be improved if the right foods are eaten, but overall sugars and carbs must be reduced. Most people cross fingers and hope they don’t get cancer. But there are things you can do now to lower risk of this deadly disease. In fact, doing these things will reduce risk of all chronic diseases. Research shows that genetics, environmental exposure, smoking, physical activity and diet are the possible causes of cancer. Here’s what you should do today to prevent and fight cancer. Reduce intake of sugar and alcohol Regular, excessive consumption of alcohol can increase risk of cancer. Alcohol weakens the body and reduces its ability break down and absorb vitamins and minerals. Sugar is believed to fuel growth of cancer cells. In this animal study, researchers found that size of tumors increased when mice were fed high amounts of sucrose. These effects can be experienced regardless of whether you use table sugar or high-fructose corn syrup. You have to avoid processed foods to reduce intake of sugar. 80 percent of processed foods have sugar. Avoid inflammation-causing foods Increase intake of plant-based foods Get enough exposure to sunlight If you like the video, give it a thumbs up and share it with your friends! Here's another reason why you should stay away from sugary drinks. Researchers are warning that these popular beverages can increase the risk of cancer in women. According to a research conducted in the University of Minnesota, the consumption of sugar-sweetened drinks could increase the risk of endometrial cancer in women. The research showed that women who regularly consumed these drinks faced an increased risk of developing the cancer, compared to those who consumed none. The research also helped to explain why more obese women were diagnosed with endometrial cancer. However, the intake of sugar-free drinks had no connection with the endometrial cancer risk.

Don't miss new Big Think videos! Subscribe by clicking here: http://goo.gl/CPTsV5 Enzymes like Telomerase and Resveratrol, though not the Fountain of Youth unto themselves, offer tantalizing clues to how we might someday soon unravel the aging process. Question: Do you think the enzyme Telomerase could be used to reverse the aging process in our lifetime? (Submitted by Paul Cellura) Michio Kaku: Paul, Telomerase hit the headlines; however, I think we have to put it into perspective. It is not the fountain of youth; however, it is a significant breakthrough. We have to put it into a much larger perspective. First of all, we know that DNA is sort of like a shoelace. It has plastic tips at the end. Every time a cell reproduces, the tips get shorter and shorter and shorter until finally they fray. And you know that your shoelace, without the plastic tips will simply fall apart. That's what happens inside a cell. A cell, for example, your skin cell, will divide about 60 times, that's called a Hayflick Limit. Then the cell goes into senescence and eventually dies. So in some sense, every cell has a biological clock. It is doomed to die after about 60 reproductions. However, Telomerase can eliminate some of the contraction of the chromosomes and the chromosomes can maintain their length. So at first you may say, "ah-ha! We can now defeat the biological clock." But not so fast, first of all, cancer cells also use Telomerase. Cancer cells are immortal. Cancer cells are immortal and that's precisely why they kill you. Why are cancer cells so dangerous? Because they are immortal. They grow and they grow and they grow until they take over huge chunks of your body, meaning that your bodily functions cannot be performed and you die. So we have to make sure that when you hit ordinary cells with Telomerase that you don't also trigger cancer in the process. Now, also you have to realize that genes are also very essential for the aging process. It turns out that we know what aging is. Aging is the buildup of error. That's all aging is. The build up of genetic and cellular error. And cells begin to age; they begin to get sluggish because genetic mistakes start to build up. Now cells; however, have a repair mechanism. They can repair damage to their cells; otherwise we would all basically rot very soon after birth. However, even the repair mechanisms eventually get gummed up and then the cell really starts to get old as a consequence. So then the question is, can you accelerate cell repair? That is another branch of gerontology which is being looked at using genes and using chemicals to accelerate the repair mechanisms. For example, if I take any organism on the planet Earth from yeast cells to spiders, insects, rabbits, dogs, and even monkeys now. And I reduce their caloric intake by 30%, they live 30% longer. In fact the only organism which has not yet been deliberately tested by scientists are homo sapiens. All the other species obey this basic rule. You starve them to death, they live longer. This is independent of Telomerase. This is a function of the wear and tear that we have on the cells. And this is the only known way of actually deliberately extending the lifespan of any organisms almost at will. Now, what we want is a genetic way of mimicking this mechanism without having to starve yourself because how many people do you know would be willing to starve themselves in order to live 30% longer? Not too many. So then the question is, are there genes that control this process. And the answer is apparently, yes. There's something called the Sirtuin genes, Sir2 being the most prominent of them. They in turn stimulate certain enzymes, among them Resveratrol, which is found in red wine, for example. So this does not mean that drinking red wine or taking Telomerase is the fountain of youth. I don't think that anyone has the fountain of youth yet. What I am saying is, we are now finding pieces of the fountain of youth, tantalizing clues that mean that perhaps in the coming decades, we might be able to actually unravel the aging process. We don't have it yet. Don't go out to the drug store and stock up on these kinds of chemicals and enzymes thinking you're going to live forever. However it is conceivable that in the coming decades we'll come very close to finding it.

Some researchers also assert that this behavior is linked to increased body fat and a chance of a range of diseases, including cancer. Eat avocado seeds to KILL CANCER CELLS http://bit.ly/2Bh29mw, strengthen the immune system! YOU’VE BEEN THROWING AWAY YOUR AVOCADO SEEDS, Powerful Antioxidant http://bit.ly/2kLycjf Filled Superfood http://bit.ly/2CFuAXp Helps FIGHT CANCER http://bit.ly/2BNeuOV! Avocados are super-healthy green fruits that are packed with vitamins, phytonutrients, and benefits your whole body. From your hair down to your feet, avocados and their oil are useful, even the seeds can be eaten. Did you know that? You’re probably used to throwing the big seeds in your compost or in your guacamole to keep it as fresh as possible. But these seeds are highly nutritious—in fact, an avocado seed has more antioxidants than the fleshy fruit. THE SEED OF HEALTH Most people don’t know that the avocado seed has more antioxidants than most fruits and vegetables. More, even, than most healing teas. The seeds give you more soluble fiber than any other food! Avocado seeds have a nourishing, antioxidant-rich oil that lower high cholesterol and help prevent stroke and heart disease. Eating avocado seeds is a great way to reduce inflammatory diseases in the body. Specifically, the avocado seed’s powerful benefits work to ease swelling in the gastrointestinal tract. In addition to aiding the GI tract, avocado seeds help relieve diarrhea and constipation naturally and effectively. The antioxidants known as phenolic compounds in avocado seeds make it useful for soothing gastric ulcers. These compounds contain antibacterial and antiviral properties that make the seeds effective at preventing ulcers all along the lining of the digestive system. WHY YOU SHOULD EAT AVOCADO SEEDS 1. Kills Cancer Cells 70% of the antioxidants in avocados are found in the seeds. The seeds contain flavonol, a powerful antioxidant that helps to prevent and reduce tumor growth. A 2013 study published in Pharmaceutical Biology found avocado extract from the flesh caused leukemia cells to self-destruct. In a more recent study published in the peer-reviewed journal Cancer Research, researchers discovered that a compound found in avocado seed extract called avocatin B was effective against acute myeloid leukemia cells. In total, study researchers tested 800 natural health products against the human acute myeloid leukemia cells. 2. Strengthens The Immune System Avocado seeds contain procyanidins and catechins. They have anti-inflammatory properties that reduce stiffness, swelling, joint pain and diseases. Flavonol in avocado also boosts the immune system and help protects from cold and flu. 3. Heals Digestive Issues For centuries, avocado seeds have been used in South America to treat gastrointestinal tract issues, including gastric ulcers, constipation, and diarrhea. These anti-inflammatory seeds contain more soluble fibers than most other foods on our planet! 4. Protects Heart Health Avocados are an excellent source of heart-healthy monounsaturated fat and thanks to their amino acid and dietary fiber content, the seeds can help lower cholesterol and prevent cardiovascular issues such as the formation of plaque, which can lead to strokes and heart attack “This soluble fiber binds to the fat and excess cholesterol. Then we can lower cholesterol and improve heart function naturally. Soluble fiber is tough to get in our diet. Oatmeal has some, but it cannot compare with the avocado seed.” 5. Live Longer, Feel Better The seeds don’t just help you look younger, they help you feel younger too. Compounds in avocado seeds have the ability to reduce bone disease, joint discomfort, and aches and pains. Antioxidants neutralize free radicals that cause illness and premature aging. Avocados and their seeds, actually slow down the aging process because of their ability to synthesize collagen. Avocado seeds can lower blood glucose levels and help you maintain a healthy weight. Due to its high content of good fats, you will stay satiated for longer, meaning you won’t be munching on snacks all day long. HOW TO PREPARE YOUR AVOCADO SEEDS So now you’re asking, “how can I get all these amazing benefits from this huge seed?” Of course you can’t just bite into it, and it won’t go through the juicer, so how do you get the goodness out of this seed? The next time you eat avocados, keep the seeds and wash them. Dry them with a paper towel and put them into a dehydrator or oven to bake it. Heat the oven to 250oF (120oC) and bake the seeds for 2 hours, till the outer skin of the seed cracks. Discard the outer skin. The seeds will now be soft enough that you can use a knife to cut it into smaller pieces. Throw them into your blender and blend them into powder form. You can use the powder still in its moist form, or lightly roast it and store them away dry (keep longer). Your moist powder may appear whitish, or when roasted may appear orange in color.

Diabetes is a group of metabolic diseases in which there are high blood sugar levels over a prolonged period. Symptoms of high blood sugar include frequent urination, increased thirst, and increased hunger. If left untreated, diabetes can cause many serious long-term complications include heart disease, stroke, chronic kidney failure, foot ulcers, and damage to the eyes. What you eat can help you to control and fight your diabetes. Research proves that making a few key changes to your diet such as eating more produce, fewer refined carbohydrates, plenty of lean protein can help in improving your blood-sugar and cuts the risk of diabetes-related complications. Certain foods are packed with nutrients that stabilise blood sugar levels, protect your heart, and even save your vision from the damaging effects of diabetes. These top 10 foods can help you in controlling Diabetes. Spinach The American Diabetes Association calls spinach a diabetes super food and recommends that you regularly include this dark green leafy non-starchy vegetable in your diet. Besides being rich in vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals, spinach possesses a low glycemic index, which means eating it will help support healthy and stable blood glucose levels. Spinach is low in carbohydrates, containing only 0.83 grams per cup. The fact that spinach contains so few carbohydrates makes it an excellent choice on a diabetes diet. Broccoli Broccoli contains a compound called sulforaphane, which triggers several anti-inflammatory processes that improve blood sugar control and protect blood vessels from the cardiovascular damage that’s often a consequence of diabetes. Olive oil Olive oil is recognized as one of the healthiest edible oils since it contains less saturated fats. It is rich in Omega 9 and Omega 3 which help maintain the flexibility of blood vessels, allowing good blood flow. Olive oil, especially extra virgin, contains tyrosol phenolic compounds such as oleuropein and oleocanthal. These compounds are nature’s most powerful anti-oxidants. Sweet potatoes Sweet potatoes are a good carbohydrate choice for diabetics. The glycemic index of sweet potatoes is a lot lower, which is better for diabetes control, according to a 2002 article in the "American Journal of Clinical Nutrition." Eating sweet potatoes in moderate amounts will help you keep your blood sugar levels in the healthy range even if you have diabetes. Avocados Avocados are an excellent choice for people with diabetes because they are very rich in dietary fiber, vitamins, and minerals and packed with numerous health benefiting plant nutrients. Blueberries Blueberries contain both insoluble fiber (which “flushes” fat out of your system) and soluble fiber (which slows down the emptying of your stomach, and improves blood sugar control). It also contain a natural plant compound known as anthocyanins. Scientists believe these may help lower blood sugar by boosting insulin production. Tomatoes Tomatoes are an excellent source of vitamin C, vitamin A, and vitamin K. They are also a very good source of, potassium, manganese, dietary fiber, chromium, and vitamin B1. Because of their low carbohydrate content, tomatoes can play a big role in controlling blood sugar levels. The low carbohydrate content also helps lower calorie intake and can help diabetics to lose weight. Eggs Eggs are a versatile food and a great source of protein, and the American Diabetes Association considers eggs an excellent choice for people with diabetes. Cinnamon Cinnamon spice has the highest anti-oxidant strength of all the food sources in nature. Many studies show that consumption of one teaspoon cinnamon to three teaspoons a day has a positive effect on reducing blood glucose levels. It was found that the cinnamon can make your cells more sensitive to insulin. Dates Dates are a great choice for a person with diabetes as they can help control sugar cravings, and they are low on the glycemic index. The carbohydrates in dates provide instant energy, and the high fiber contained in dates is good for digestion. This sweet desert fruit is cholesterol and fat free therefore, they serve as a great snack item. Many essential disease protective minerals are also present in dates.

5 Signs You are Eating Too Much Sugar Your body needs a little bit of salt every day for the sodium it contains. Sodium plays a significant role in the body. In particular, it regulates volumes of fluids in the body and aids the uptake of various other nutrients into the body’s cells. Also, the normal pH, or acid-base level of the blood is influenced by sodium. 1. Damages Kidneys. Your body needs a small amount of sodium to maintain a proper fluid balance. But excess sodium can be damaging for your kidneys. 2. Increases Blood Pressure. High blood pressure is a leading cause of cardiovascular disease, and high salt intake is one of the leading causes of high blood pressure. 3. Raises Stomach Cancer Risk. High salt intake is linked to a higher risk of stomach cancer. In fact, the World Cancer Research Fund and American Institute for Cancer Research confirm that salt, as well as salted and salty foods, are one of the probable causes of stomach cancer. 4. Weakens Bones. Excessive salt intake can also be bad for your bones. Too much salt can cause a loss of calcium from your bones. Calcium is a key element needed for strong and healthy bones. 5. Triggers Asthma. Asthma, which can affect both children and adults, can greatly reduce one’s quality of life. For managing asthma, diet plays a key role. TOP 5 Cancer-Fighting Foods You Should Be Eating Today: You may have heard the sad news over the weekend that Kara Kennedy, the oldest child of the late Sen. Edward Kennedy and mom of two teens, died at a health club at the age of 51. Apparently while Kara loved to exercise, aggressive treatment for lung cancer in 2003 took a toll on her health. Cancer runs in my family, so it's something I worry about myself. And while we know that genetics play a role and exercise lowers the risk, a healthy diet is a big piece of the prevention puzzle. Certain foods contain compounds that are known to inhibit the growth of cancer cells, which is important for preventing early cancer cells from growing, reducing the risk that existing cancer cells will spread, and preventing the recurrence of cancer. Here are the five most important habits you can start today to fight this disease: Eat at least 2 cups of fruit and 3 cups of vegetables every single day. Include fruit in every breakfast and snack meal and veggies at each lunch and dinner meal. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that a low intake of fruits and vegetable contributes to five to 12 percent of all cancers and up to 30 percent of upper gastrointestinal cancers that are otherwise preventable. That's pretty powerful. Eat more bean-based meals. In a Harvard study from the International Journal of Cancer 90,638 cancer free women between 26 and 46 years old were monitored for eight years. Those who ate beans or lentils two or more times per week had a 34 percent lower risk of breast cancer than women who ate them one or fewer times per month. Natural substances in beans appear to protect cells from damage that can lead to cancer. Serve them up in delicious ways, like a ginger stir fry with edamame, Moroccan lentil soup, vegetarian chili with red kidney beans, black bean tacos, and enjoy salads topped with marinated tofu. Mix it up. Eating a wider variety of plant-based foods exposes your body to a broader spectrum of antioxidants and other natural cancer fighters. To expand your nutrition horizons, aim for five different colored fruits and veggies every day (blueberries, leafy greens, orange carrots, red peppers, cauliflower, and yup, white counts as a color), use a variety of antioxidant rich herbs and spices to season your food (basil, garlic, ginger, cinnamon, etc.), and switch up your whole grains by alternating brown and wild rice or whole wheat pasta with barley, quinoa and whole corn. Drink green tea. The research on how powerful green tea is at preventing breast cancer is mixed, but one study found that among women under the age of 50, those who consumed three or more cups of green tea per day were 37 percent less likely to develop breast cancer compared to women who didn't drink tea. Green tea contains a number of antioxidants, and in laboratory studies it's been shown to slow or completely prevent cancer development in breast cells. Enjoy up to five cups of freshly brewed hot or iced tea, and if you need a sweetener add a splash of 100 percent fruit juice instead of sugar or the artificial stuff. Choose dark chocolate (70 percent or darker). It's rich in cancer-fighting antioxidants. In my newest book, I recommend taking a dark chocolate escape by enjoying a few individually wrapped tasting squares of dark chocolate every day. But you can also melt some dark chocolate chunks, fold in any spices you like (from fresh grated ginger to green tea leaves, cinnamon or chili powder) and use as a dip for fresh fruit. Did you know that nutrition plays such a powerful role in cancer prevention?

The American Heart Association recommended daily allowance of added sugar is 25 grams (women) and 36 grams (men). But Americans adults currently average 87 grams/day! That is 70 lbs of sugar per year. But it's worse for children: they consume 78 lbs per year which is sometimes more than their own body weight. These massive amounts of sugar consumption increase risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and more. Lakanto is trying to help change these disturbing trends. With natural zero calorie, zero glycemic sweeteners and healthy versions of ordinarily sugary foods and beverages. By reducing sugar intake and replacing added sugars with Lakanto, it can reduce your risk of many dangerous, life-threatening diseases.

Green tea has been used as a medicine for thousands of years, originating in China but widely used throughout Asia this beverage has a multitude of uses from lowering blood pressure to preventing cancer. The reason that green tea has more health benefits attached to it than black tea is (apparently) due to the processing. Black tea is processed in a way that allows for fermentation whereas green tea’s processing avoids the fermentation process. As a result, green tea retains maximum amount of antioxidants and poly-phenols the substances that give green tea its many benefits. Here’s a list of some of its amazing benefits — benefits that you may not have been aware of. Some of these benefits are still being debated, so please do your own research if you want to use green tea for medicinal purposes. 1. Weight Loss. Green tea increases the metabolism. The polyphenol found in green tea works to intensify levels of fat oxidation and the rate at which your body turns food into calories. 2. Diabetes. Green tea apparently helps regulate glucose levels slowing the rise of blood sugar after eating. This can prevent high insulin spikes and resulting fat storage. 3. Heart Disease. Scientists think, green tea works on the lining of blood vessels, helping keep them stay relaxed and better able to withstand changes in blood pressure. It may also protect against the formation of clots, which are the primary cause of heart attacks. 4. Esophageal Cancer. It can reduce the risk of esophageal cancer, but it is also widely thought to kill cancer cells in general without damaging the healthy tissue around them. 5. Cholesterol. Green tea reduces bad cholesterol in the blood and improves the ratio of good cholesterol to bad cholesterol. 6. Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. It is said to delay the deterioration caused by Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Studies carried out on mice showed that green tea protected brain cells from dying and restored damaged brain cells. 7. Tooth Decay. Studies suggests that the chemical antioxidant “catechin” in tea can destroy bacteria and viruses that cause throat infections, dental caries and other dental conditions 8. Blood Pressure. Regular consumption of green tea is thought to reduce the risk of high blood pressure. 9. Depression. Theanine is an amino acid naturally found in tea leaves. It is this substance that is thought to provide a relaxing and tranquilizing effect and be a great benefit to tea drinkers. 10. Anti-viral and Anti-bacterial. Tea catechins are strong antibacterial and antiviral agents which make them effective for treating everything from influenza to cancer. In some studies green tea has been shown to inhibit the spread of many diseases. 11. Skincare. Green tea can apparently also help with wrinkles and the signs of aging, This is because of their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. Both animal and human studies have demonstrated that green tea applied topically can reduce sun damage. green tea benefits benefits of green tea green tea extract best green tea green tea diet green tea powder green tea for weight loss matcha green tea benefit of green tea organic green tea matcha green tea powder what is green tea green tea leaves japanese green tea health benefits of green tea green tea side effects is green tea good for you green tea health benefits green tea tablets what is green tea good for advantages of green tea jasmine green tea green tea supplements green tea capsules chinese green tea side effects of green tea green tea fat burner green tea advantages green tea extract weight loss green tea extract benefits
