Feel Depressed or Anxious? Talk to Someone Now http://www.tryonlinetherapy.com/depressiontoexpression/ Antidepressants do hold their fair share of side effects. Let's be honest, anti-depressants have created some pretty serious horror stories in the past and continue to be scary option for those who suffer from anxiety or depression. I get it, taking antidepressants should be a decision you are comfortable with first. Of course, with every bad story from antidepressants there are also many success stories from people who used the exact same drug that others used who had these horror stories. I would say that my anti-depressant story is an extremely positive one. Let's talk about some of the side effects of these drugs and an important differentiation between POSSIBLE side effects and PROBABLE side effects. There's the key word right there :) If you are to comment, please refuse from naming any kinds of medications as everyones treatment is different. Let's not discourage the use of anti-depressants or promote them. Whatever works baby!! If you're curious of the side effects: • feeling agitated, shaky or anxious • feeling and being sick • indigestion and stomach aches • diarrhoea or constipation • loss of appetite • weight gain • dizziness • not sleeping well (insomnia), or feeling very sleepy • headaches • low sex drive • difficulties achieving orgasm during sex or masturbation • in men, difficulties obtaining or maintaining an erection (erectile dysfunction) • dry mouth • slight blurring of vision • constipation • problems passing urine • drowsiness • dizziness • excessive sweating (especially at night) • heart rhythm problems • confusion • agitation • muscle twitching • sweating • shivering • diarrhea • muscle pain • reduced appetite • confusion • feeling listless and tired • disorientation • agitation • seizures (fits) • suicidal thoughts SUBSCRIBE: https://bit.ly/2k1XpGt INSTAGRAM: http://www.instagram.com/depressiontoexpression FACEBOOK: http://www.facebook.com/depressiontoexpression TWITTER: http://www.twitter.com/expressionscott HELP ME: http://www.patreon.com/depressiontoexpression WEBSITE: http://www.depressiontoexpression.com QUESTIONS? firstname.lastname@example.org Our Mission: Create an honest dialogue about mental health by educating and inspiring people to express themselves freely with confidence Thank you to everyone who supports this channel and the mission of Depression to Expression. Dr. Julie Holland argues that women are designed by nature to be dynamic and sensitive – women are moody and that is a good thing. Yet millions of women are medicating away their emotions because we are out of sync with our own bodies and we are told that moodiness is a problem to be fixed. One in four women takes a psychiatric drug. If you add sleeping pills to the mix the statistics become higher. Overprescribed medications can have far-reaching consequences for women in many areas of our lives: sex, relationships, sleep, eating, focus, balance, and aging. Dr. Holland's newest book is titled Moody Bitches: The Truth About the Drugs You’re Taking, the Sleep You’re Missing, the Sex You’re Not Having and What’s Really Making You Crazy. Read more at BigThink.com: http://goo.gl/O8uR Follow Big Think here: YouTube: http://goo.gl/CPTsV5 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BigThinkdotcom Twitter: https://twitter.com/bigthink Transcript: The main kind of antidepressant that is the most popularly prescribed are the SSRIs and these are medicines that increase serotonin transmission. And when you start to push on the doses of these SSRIs you start to lose some sort of quintessential feminine things. First of all it becomes much hard to climax and it becomes much, much harder to cry. But you also see decreases in empathy, in sensitivity, in passion. The simple way of thinking about an SSRI is that you have two brain cells and one is a pitcher and one is a catcher. So pitch, catch. Pitch, catch. So this nerve cell is throwing serotonin across and this one is catching it. What the medicines do is they block the recycling back into the pitcher. So, you know, I’m throwing, I’m throwing, some of this gets caught, some of it gets dropped. It just doesn’t get over there but I’ll suck it back in and try again. So if you block the recycling more is in the middle to get across. So there’s more, you know, the space between the nerve cells is called the synapse. If you block the recycling of the serotonin into the releasing cell more is available for the catching cell. So it ends up enhancing the transmission. How enhanced serotonergic transmission translates into feeling better and feeling less anxious is much more complicated. But, you know, the simplistic way to think about it is that if you have higher levels of serotonin, if your transmission is better you will be more relaxed and more happy. It’s a little easier to smile. It’s a little harder to cry. So, you know, I’ve had patients come to me and say, you know, I’ve tried antidepressants before but they always made me feel like a zombie or they didn’t make me feel like myself. Or I had a patient who said like I cut my finger and I looked down and I saw that it was bleeding and I saw that it was my blood but I didn’t really feel like connected to my finger or the blood. You know, things like that that are really, really worrisome. Or I’ve had patients say, you know, I was in this situation where I knew I should be crying and I couldn’t cry. And, you know, I felt terrible that I couldn’t express that emotion to bond with my friend or something like that. So these antidepressants do scale back a lot of expression of emotion and feeling emotion even sort of thinking emotional thoughts. If you’re terribly depressed and you need antidepressants to get out of bed and function and go to work I get it. That’s one thing. But what I’m worried about is more and more women deciding to go on antidepressants because their friends are doing it and that’s what’s, you know, more and more women who are at work are taking these SSRIs so that they cannot cry, not get flustered, keep going forward. You know I think it jives with this sort of forward momentum agenda that so many of us have and especially in the workplace. But, you know, I would say at what cost? You know it is true that SSRIs can help you get ahead and there have been really interesting animal studies where, you know, the primates who are on SSRIs ascended up the dominance hierarchy. And the ones who became dominated over got stressed out and had lower serotonin levels. So there does seem to be some component of serotonin affecting dominance hierarchies and, you know, the ability to move ahead or to lean in. So I totally get that there are advantages to being on an SSRI in the workplace. But, you’re going to miss out on knowing what’s right because you feel it or being hurt by what somebody said and showing them that you’re hurt. And so that person can learn that their behavior has emotional consequences for other people. So and it changes the whole sort of tone of the workplace. There’s going to be less accountability and less sort of calling people on their misbehavior if you’re not even feeling that anyone misbehaved. [TRANSCRIPT TRUNCATED]

It's been almost a quarter century since the introduction of Prozac. Since then, Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) have emerged as the dominant anti-depressant. Yet mistrust over SSRIs abounds because of their perceived over-use and initially under-reported side-effects and risks. Are SSRIs the bane of psychiatry, or have they been a panacea for people suffering from depression and anxiety disorders?

A simple, clinically researched and natural solution for quickly improving your mood and reducing anxiety, worry and depression. ►►http://drsam.co/yt/DepressionRemedy =============================== 5 Foods That Are Clinically Proven To Help Erase Depression & Instantly Improve Your Mood =============================== If you’re currently feeling down, sad, depressed or just “blah”... guess what - you’re HUMAN. You have a heart. It’s normal to feel depressed once in awhile. To cry because you’re feeling sad, empty or lonely. However, if these deep feelings of sadness or hopelessness continue for extended periods of time.... Or have slowly become a part of your daily life and are preventing you from enjoying life, interacting with people and feeling normal and happy, then we need to make some changes in your “biochemistry”. By eating certain foods, we can optimize your “happy” hormones and neurotransmitters, to help minimize and erase depression and quickly improve your mood. REMEMBER - Life is meant to be LIVED, not simply “survived” from one day to the next. So let’s get started the 5 foods that are clinically proven to help erase depression and instantly improve your mood. 1 - Green Tea is great because it contains an amino acid called L-Theanine, which is clinically proven to help reduce depression and anxiety, while helping create calmness at the same time. L-theanine works by increasing the activity of neurotransmitters GABA and Dopamine1,2,3 Drink at least 3-4 cups daily or take L-Theanine pills 2 - It’s important to eat wild-caught Salmon at least 2-3x weekly because of the omega-3 fatty acids, which is essential to brain health. People with depression or anxiety, have add or increased their omega 3’s and their symptoms immediately got better.4,5 There are three types of omega-3 fatty acids: ALA, EPA and DHA. Of the three, EPA appears to be the best at fighting depression.6 In fact, one study even found EPA to be as effective against depression as the antidepressant drug, Prozac.7 If you don’t like fish, at least take 2-3 grams of omega fish oil pills daily. 3 - Eat foods high in Magnesium, such as Spinach, pumpkin seeds and almonds. Magnesium plays a critical role in brain function and mood, and low levels are linked to an increased risk of depression.8 One analysis of over 8,800 people found that those under the age of 65 years, with the lowest intake of magnesium had a 32% greater risk of depression.9 I personally add in an extra 800 mgs daily of Magnesium, right before bed because it also helps with relaxation and sleep. 4 - Whole eggs are very important for overall health, and especially brain and mood health. This is because egg yolks contain cholesterol, which is needed to create many of your sex hormones (testosterone, estrogen, etc.), which all affect your mood. Don’t worry, cholesterol from eggs won’t raise your cholesterol levels. However, having low cholesterol is linked to depression.10 Eggs also contain zinc, B12 and fat soluble vitamins such as D and K. Being deficient in any of these is linked to higher levels of depression.11,12 5 -- Foods high in probiotics is very important for your mood. Your gut bacteria is linked to many health ailments -- heart disease, diabetes, obesity, Alzheimer's and even more so -- depression and anxiety.13,14,15 Yogurt, Kefir, Sauerkraut, Tempeh, Kimchi and similar foods are very high in healthy bacteria and pro and pre-biotics. Make sure you’re having some daily. If not, at least take some probiotic pills daily. SUMMARY There are many lifestyle changes you can make, which can and will make dramatic improvements in your mood. Hormones control how we look and feel. “Motion creates emotion”. The words you use. And the people you associate with and many more actions that you have total control over can help decrease and eliminate depression and similar negative feelings. One thing is for sure, most people definitely don’t need drugs to fight depression. In fact, under this video there’s a link to one of my favorite proven solutions that can instantly change your mood, reduce anxiety and feelings of depression, quickly and naturally. Hej, It's Jasmine! I have been having a really rough time for the last few months. I thought it was something that I could get through by just speaking with a therapist but then I started to become suicidal and feeling very hopeless. That's when I decided to go back on Fluoxetine/prozac 20mg which is something I was taking 2 years ago when I was struggling with anorexia and the negative feelings that come with that. This week has been quite difficult. The first few days seemed to be really good and I was very hopeful. I have been having a very panicked feeling in my chest, I can feel my heart pounding all the time and I wake up in a panic. I hope that things get better because this has been really difficult. I hate that my anxiety jumps from one thing to another when I get better at accepting the thoughts towards one subject. With the Fluoxetine things can get worse in the first month before they get better. We will have to wait and see.

Alcohol And Anti-Depressants Do Not Mix / Educational Video. If you are taking antidepressants, you should talk to your doctor before drinking alcohol. The drug you are taking and your current emotional and physical state should be considered in deciding if you can safely drink alcohol while taking your medication. But generally, mixing antidepressants and alcohol is discouraged. A few things could happen if you mix antidepressants and alcohol. First, your medication may become ineffective in treating your depression. Alcohol acts a depressant, so by drinking it, you could counteract effects of your medication and lessen their benefit. The side effects from your medication could also worsen. Some antidepressants cause drowsiness, and so does alcohol. Mixing the two could make you sleepy, which is dangerous in situations where you need to be alert, such as driving, or at work. Studies have proved that even social drinking may impair your ability to react quickly and remain alert while driving, even hours after consuming a single alcoholic drink. Finally, if you are taking an antidepressant that is a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI), mixing it with alcohol can be very dangerous. The combination can cause a dangerous spike in blood pressure, leading to a stroke. Your doctor may tell you to avoid both alcohol and certain types of foods which may also interact with your medicine, such as cheeses and certain meats, if you are on an MAOI. Antidepressants are not the only medications that could dangerously interact with alcohol. Whenever you are prescribed a new medication, talk to your doctor about consuming alcoholic drinks. Try not to drink alcohol. Alcohol on its own can make your depression worse, but it can also make you slow and drowsy if you are taking antidepressants. This can lead to problems with driving - or with anything you need to concentrate on. Video clip from the public domain

I lost 25 lbs in 4 weeks and was in full panic or near panic for 8 weeks straight mixed with the darkest most painful depression I cold have ever imagined. I immediately could not work and had to move in with my parents who, along with many siblings and friends, had to watch me 24/7 as I was a danger to myself. Eventually I was hospitalized in the Psych Ward for a week. Getting through each day seemed truly unbearable and I knew I would surely die. I have been put on many many different SSRI's SNRI's Tricyclics, Mood stabilizers, anti psychotics, holistic meds, acupuncture and even a form of shock therapy called RTMS. I barely saw any improvement in my condition for a full year. It was decided I had treatment resistant depression and I spent nearly every moment in tears. Weeks after starting my newest round of medications (Seroquel & Nortryptaline) as a last ditch effort, I had my blood drawn for possible hormone imbalances and my Testosterone levels came back 200 ng/Dl and 150 ng/Dl. The average 25 year old male has 750 ng/Dl. With this discovery I for the first time had any type of possible explanation as to why I was not getting better and why I might be so so sick. The symptoms of such Low T are very similar to those of major depression. I started Testosterone replacement therapy soon after and have been checking in with the world and documenting my experience with treatment as well as giving my insight and perspective on various topics of mental health. I am blessed to say that I have slowly, over the last 5 years, been improving and becoming more stable which I never thought to be possible. My low T manifested itself in the form of Major depression, anxiety, and depersonalization/ derealization for over a year. Treating my low testosterone has been 1 HUGE part of the puzzle but I have had to continue to work hard to hold on to my mental stability with many set backs. Gaining some mental stability back is nothing short of a miracle as I was near death for what felt like forever. I do not consider myself to be totally healed yet but I am closer now then ever before and aim to use what I have been through to help or at least offer support to others in need I was able to successfully come off my Seroquel and Pamelor. I work out all the time as a part of my mental health recovery!!! Weight training and all kinds of cardio rule much of my free time and I also share this on my channel.

Up to a fifth of patients on SSRI antidepressants do worse than with placebo. There is no way to tell who will do worse. It is interesting that no comparison was made with exercise and no credit was given to placebo in this big pharma sponsored study published in Archives of Psychiatry in December of 2011. Little mention was made of the side effects such as GI symptoms, fatigue, insomnia, suicidal thoughts and even suicide, impotence, seizures, osteoporosis, liver toxicity and much more. To us it seems far more reasonable to use placebo because the largest collection of clinical trials showed that these drugs are no more effective than placebo, but they have terrible side effects. Another good choice would be an exercise program for depressed people because it is more powerful than either the drugs or placebo. Wow does Big Pharma have a great advertising and promotional team! BMJ Open 2015;5:e008341 doi:10.1136/bmjopen-2015-008341 Objectives To investigate the association between antidepressant therapy and the later onset of mania/bipolar disorder. Design Retrospective cohort study using an anonymised electronic health record case register. Setting South London and Maudsley National Health Service Trust, a large provider of inpatient and community mental healthcare in the UK. Participants 21 012 adults presenting to SLaM between 1 April 2006 and 31 March 2013 with unipolar depression. Exposure Prior antidepressant therapy recorded in electronic health records. Main outcome measure Time to subsequent diagnosis of mania or bipolar disorder from date of diagnosis of unipolar depression, censored at 31 March 2014. Methods Multivariable Cox regression analysis with age and gender as covariates. Results The overall incidence rate of mania/bipolar disorder was 10.9 per 1000 person-years. The peak incidence of mania/bipolar disorder incidence was seen in patients aged between 26 and 35 years. Prior antidepressant treatment was associated with an increased incidence of mania/bipolar disorder ranging from 13.1 to 19.1 per 1000 person-years. Multivariable analysis indicated a significant association with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and venlafaxine. Conclusions In people with unipolar depression, antidepressant treatment is associated with an increased risk of subsequent mania/bipolar disorder. These findings highlight the importance of considering risk factors for mania when treating people with depression.

Watch more Marijuana Facts & Medical Marijuana videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/506384-Does-Marijuana-Affect-Mental-Illness-Marijuana Marijuana and Mental Illness There are three things to think about when it comes to marijuana and mental illness. 1. Can marijuana cause mental illness? 2. Can marijuana be used to treat mental illness? 3. Can the way our society treats marijuana itself cause mental illness? So let's take the first one: Can marijuana cause mental illness? Well, for a long time people have worried about this. Societies going back to 19th century have been concerned whether marijuana use can cause people to go insane. There was whole (?) madness where people really believed or were thought to believe that use of marijuana could lead to mania, homicidal mania specifically, where you go crazy and kill people. But every time that's been seriously looked at, studied by scientific bodies, they really couldn't find any kind of association with these mania syndromes. More recent studies are being done to look at specifically certain vulnerable populations like adolescents who have preexisting mental health problems. And it turns out that possibly we might be able to find a correlation with adolescents who use marijuana who have preexisting behavioral and psychological problems may be at a higher risk developing longer standing psychotic problems, but these associations are very weak. They are done through retrospective studies and you really can't do a controlled study to find that out. The problem with these studies is that it really confounds how the society views marijuana because it turns out that with all the law enforcement, all the messages that we get about marijuana, when you're going against that grain by using something that's both prohibited and taboo and stigmatized and illegal, that itself can cause psychological distress. It's difficult to tease that out from the actual substance itself. Now it turns out that marijuana has been shown in some studies to be associated with improved mental health in patients who are chronically mentally ill. There have been studies in chronic schizophrenia patients that those who are using cannabis or marijuana in some studies have longer lives, in some studies have higher levels of social functioning. That's all related to the fact that the system that marijuana binds to in our brain and nervous system is tied in very intimately to our cognitive functioning in our way that we approach the world and our ego construction. That's what that's about. A lot of people are excited about the use of compounds in marijuana like cannabidiol (CBD) to treat illnesses like schizophrenia and psychosis. Certainly there is interest in depression treatment, anxiety treatment, posttraumatic stress disorder. All of these things are exciting areas in the world of mental illness treatment with marijuana. Finally marijuana enforcement itself can be a trigger for mental illness because of the chronic distress of worrying about being prosecuted by law enforcement. I've met numerous patients and people who live in places where it's illegal to use marijuana even though it's medically okay at the state level, but the federal government saying it's illegal, and they are caught. This can cause really severe distressing symptoms. So that itself is all part of this social framework that we put marijuana into. So we have to be careful how we build those frameworks.

Schizophrenics in the United States currently fare worse than patients in the world’s poorest countries. Medical journalist Robert Whitaker argues that modern treatments for the severely mentally ill are just old medicine in new bottles, and that we as a society are deeply deluded about their efficacy. The widespread use of lobotomies in the 1920's and 1930's gave way in the 1950's to electroshock and a wave of new drugs. In what is perhaps Robert Whitaker’s most damning revelation, he examines how drug companies in the 1980's and 1990's skewed their studies to prove that new anti-psychotic drugs were more effective than the old, while keeping patients in the dark about dangerous side effects. Robert Whitaker raises important questions about our obligations to the mad, the meaning of “insanity,” and what we value most about the human mind. If you have taken antidepressant medication like Zoloft, Prozac or Lexapro to name a few, you may have experienced bizarre or intense dreams. This very disturbing, it does not mean the medication is making you worse. Antidepressants suppress the REM stage of sleep which is the stage where you dream. The effect of this suppression is that you can get REM rebound where you experience very intense dreams. Changing medication may help as the effect may not manifest as much with the different medication. Stimulants can sometimes help a patient with this illness. A proper use of stimulants is when the patient that is already on anti-depressants which are not working 100%. By adding a stimulant, the patient often reaches, or comes closer to, the 100% mark. Ritalin Ritalin (methylphenidate) is usually the first stimulant that a doctor would first prescribe, in immediate-release form, 5 mg pill, one or two times a day. Amphetamines Amphetamines are also used - dexedrine (dextromphetamine), adreol (amphetamine salts) and Vyvanse (another form of dexedrine). These are a little more potent and effective than Retalin. A Word about Addiction and Abuse Donald Cline, who wrote the first textbook on psychopharmacology, mentioned that he had patients who came in to the office, confessing that they have been taking 30 mg samples of amphetamines for a long time. They felt guilty because they had become dependent on them. They were using it as an anti-depressant. Furthermore, they only took only the set amount. They were addicted to it in the sense that they needed the drug to function but they were not abusing the drug by taking more to get high. Therefore, if you are taking a prescribed anti-depressant and your symptoms are not entirely gone, consider requesting one of these stimulants from your doctor. I went partying on Saturday night. I wasn't really in the mood. I was feeling a bit flat and self-conscious. Until the drugs kicked in. Caffeine and alcohol. Red Bull and Vodka. Suddenly I was in the zone, brimming with confidence, bubbling with vitality, speaking freely to strangers -- maybe too freely. Astonishing how chemistry can transform our state like that! Take serotonin, one of the brain's key chemicals of happiness. How do we know this? Largely because of the effects of two of the world's most popular drugs: Prozac and Ecstasy. Popping Prozac makes you happy, popping Ecstasy makes you really happy. Well, not for everyone and sometimes with dangerous side effects. But neither of these drugs give us anything we don't have already. All they do is boost our body's own natural supply of serotonin. Turns out there is another way to boost serotonin. British scientist, Dr. Stephen D. Martin gave one group of depressed patients a course of serotonin-boosting anti-depressants. Another group participated in therapy that helped them shift out of negative, self-defeating thought patterns. Both interventions were almost equally effective in reducing depression. More astonishingly, both groups showed virtually the same altered brain activity. In fact the group that changed their thought patterns showed even greater activation of the cingulate gyrus, the part of the brain which responds to serotonin. Both drugs and therapy have their place but studies like these prove the power of our thoughts. Depressed people are usually not depressed because they have terrible lives, they're depressed because they have terrible thoughts. But even if you're not depressed, what can you do if you find yourself in a negative thinking downward spiral. You can change your thoughts through what I call the 3 D's: 1) Disputation: Debate the thoughts with three questions: 1) Is this really true? Most negativity exaggerates and catastrophizes. We often lie to ourselves making things worse than they are. 2) Ask: What is good about this? Look for evidence of why it's not quite as bad as you think. Or identify how this can build your character or teach you something. And finally 3) ask yourself: What can I do about it? And start focusing on solutions. 2) Distraction: Instead of ruminating on the thoughts do something else. Call a friend, read a book, meditate, exercise or implement a solution. Finally, 3) Detachment: Choose not to react to the thoughts. In Buddhist Psychology thoughts are seen as similar to sensations. Just like sights, sounds or smells, we can accept them neutrally, non-judgmentally without giving them our attention. The aim here is not to suppress or resist the thoughts, which energizes them, we simply let them be and let them pass. So, next Saturday night I'm going to get slammed ... on my thoughts. Jokes aside in a future episode I'll show you how it's possible to get drunk without a drop of alcohol. "In the beginning there was the word." So the Gospel opens. What is a word but a single thought. Thoughts create emotions. Emotions create actions. Actions, habits. Habits, character. Character, destiny. Govern your thoughts and you govern your destiny. What is Diabetes Diabetes is an illness that affects the way the body uses digested food for energy. The body also produces a hormone called insulin. Insulin helps cells throughout the body absorb glucose and use it for energy. Diabetes reduces or destroys the body’s ability to make or use insulin properly. Without insulin, glucose builds up in the blood, and the body’s cells are starved of energy. What is the link between diabetes and depression Studies show that depression and diabetes may be linked, but scientists do not yet know whether depression increases the risk of diabetes or diabetes increases the risk of depression. Current research suggests that both cases are possible. In addition to possibly increasing your risk for depression, diabetes may make symptoms of depression worse. The stress of managing diabetes every day and the effects of diabetes on the brain may contribute to depression. In the United States, people with diabetes are twice as likely as the average person to have depression. At the same time, some symptoms of depression may reduce overall physical and mental health, not only increasing your risk for diabetes but making diabetes symptoms worse. For example, overeating may cause weight gain, a major risk factor for diabetes. Fatigue or feelings of worthlessness may cause you to ignore a special diet or medication plan needed to control your diabetes, worsening your diabetes symptoms. Studies have shown that people with diabetes and depression have more severe diabetes symptoms than people who have diabetes alone How is depression treated in people with diabetes Depression is diagnosed and treated by a health care provider. Treating depression can help you manage your diabetes and improve your overall health. Scientists report that for people who have diabetes and depression, treating depression can raise mood levels and increase blood glucose control. Recovery from depression takes time but treatments are effective. At present, the most common treatments for depression include: Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), a type of psycho- therapy, or talk therapy, that helps people change negative thinking styles and behaviors that may contribute to their depression. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), a type of antidepressant medication that includes citalopram (Celexa), sertraline (Zoloft), and fluoxetine (Prozac) Serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI), a type of antidepressant medication similar to SSRI that includes venlafaxine (Effexor) and duloxetine (Cymbalta). Some antidepressants may cause weight gain as a side effect and may not be the best depression treatment if you have diabetes. These include: Tricyclics Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) Paroxetine (Paxil), an SSRI Mirtazapine (Remeron) Not everyone responds to treatment the same way. Medications can take several weeks to work, may need to be combined with ongoing talk therapy, or may need to be changed or adjusted to minimize side effects and achieve the best results.
