For more info: https://draxe.com/vitamin-d-deficiency-symptoms/?utm_campaign=Youtube-Apr-2015&utm_medium=social&utm_source=youtube&utm_term=vitaminddeficiency In this video I’m going to talk about the benefits of vitamin D as well as symptoms of vitamin D deficiency. In certain studies, Americans has been found to be the #1 population in vitamin D deficiency. Some of the main symptoms of vitamin D deficiency are a weakened immune system, candida or bacterial overgrowth, emotional ups and downs, hormone imbalance, trouble putting on muscle or losing weight, weakened bones or teeth, cancer, heart disease, or diabetes. Vitamin D supports having a healthy immune response, digestive health, hormone balance, and more. The biggest causes of vitamin D deficiency are not getting enough sunlight, certain chemicals from plastic bottles (bpa), and toxicity. Try to get outside everyday for about 20-30 minutes of natural sunlight. Certain foods that are sources of vitamin D are wild caught fish, raw fermented milk, mushrooms, and eggs. However, there are small amounts in the food you eat. For a good supplement, I would recommend a high quality vitamin D supplement. You don’t want to take vitamin D2, but you do want to take vitamin D3. For supplementation, take about 2000-5000 IUs a day. However, if you have a severe deficiency, then for 1-2 months, you may take 5000 IUs twice daily. Lastly, you want to take your vitamin D3 with some form of fat like coconut oil or avocado to help absorption in your body. We often get this vitamin from exposure to sunlight, but it is also obtained by eating certain foods such as fish and dairy products. Vitamin D supplementation is also popular, since getting enough of this vitamin is difficult from diet alone. Unfortunately, there are quite a few individuals who are deficient in this vitamin without even knowing it as the signs and symptoms are either subtle or not well known. Over time this could have a negative effect on an individuals quality of life. Lets discuss some signs and symptoms of vitamin D deficiency. 1. Those who are vitamin D deficient may feel more fatigued and tired. Since there are so many reasons why we can feel tired and fatigued during the day, such as lack of sleep or obesity, vitamin D deficiency is often overlooked. Vitamin D deficiency can cause daytime fatigue or even make it harder to get out of bed in the mornings, even with quality sleep. 2. Vitamin D plays an important role in keeping our immune system strong and free from different bacteria and illness. This is because vitamin D directly effects the cells that are responsible for fighting against infection. Therefore, another sign and symptom of vitamin D deficiency is getting sick more often. Low levels of vitamin D can be a contributing factor to becoming infected with cold and flus more often. As well, it has been found that taking vitamin D supplements may reduce the risk of certain respiratory tract infections. 3. Another possible symptom of vitamin D deficiency is bone and lower back pain. Vitamin D is an important vitamin for maintaining overall bone health. It supports bone health and helps with the body’s absorption of calcium. It has been found that those individuals with a vitamin D deficiency were more like to have back pain which often limited their daily activities. As well, they were also more likely to have bone pain through out their bodies, such as in their legs and joints. A deficiency in this vitamin will not only cause bone pain, but it can also cause bone loss since it not only helps with calcium absorption, but also bone metabolism. This can lead to lower bone mineral density. 4. Vitamin D deficiency may also negatively effect our mood. Feelings of depression may be a sign of vitamin D deficiency. This has often been linked to older adults. By being deficient in this vitamin, it may also cause seasonal depression during the colder months, when exposure to sunlight is limited. Depression and all mental health symptoms are complex and should be discussed with your medical practitioner to determine its exact cause and remedy. 5. Lastly, another sign and symptom of vitamin D deficiency may be hair loss. When hair loss is severe, this can be the result of nutrient deficiency. Hair loss may be a sign of vitamin D deficiency in female-patten hair loss. As well, there have been links found between low levels of vitamin D and alopecia areata, and low levels of this vitamin may be a risk factor for developing this autoimmune disease which can effect hair loss. Be sure to discuss any of the above signs and symptoms with your medical practitioner to determine their exact cause and also to discuss the correct amount of vitamin D you should be taking daily to support your health. Magnesium is a mineral found in many types of foods, it plays an essential role in human DNA production, repair and in maintaining healthy bones, nerves and muscles. Though it is readily available, most Americans do not meet their need for magnesium through their diet. you should consider getting your magnesium level checked if you suffer the following 11 symptoms. 1. Low energy. Magnesium is involved in at least 300 different chemical reactions in our body, and a lot have to do with energy production. A sign of low magnesium can be low energy. 2.Insomnia. If you're having a hard time falling or staying asleep, it may be due to low levels of magnesium, particularly if you are experiencing a lot of stress. Stress hormones increase blood pressure and heart rate, this is partly accomplished by depleting the body of its magnesium If there isn't enough magnesium available for the body to replenish itself, sleeping becomes a problem. 3.Constipation. Bowel movements often slow down without enough magnesium in the body. note that magnesium is the main ingredient in many over-the-counter laxatives. 4.Frequent headaches. Magnesium deficiency lowers serotonin levels, causes blood vessels to constrict and affects neurotransmitter function, all related to headaches -- especially migraines. 50% of migraine sufferers have a magnesium deficiency. 5.Twitching or cramping. Because magnesium plays an important role in muscle relaxation, insufficient intake can result in unintended muscle movement. Without magnesium, our muscles would be in a constant state of contraction 6.Low bone density. Magnesium plays a major role in bone formation, and the majority of the body's magnesium is stored in the bones. People with higher intakes of magnesium have a higher bone mineral density. 7.High blood pressure. Magnesium is very important in maintaining a healthy blood pressure, a deficiency can definitely cause pressure to be too high. Eating foods high in magnesium and other minerals can help prevent high blood pressure in people with prehypertension. 8.Type 2 diabetes. Breaking down blood sugars is another of magnesium's jobs in the human body. People with higher amounts of magnesium in their diets tend to have a lower risk of developing diabetes. Research is ongoing to determine whether magnesium therapy can be used in diabetes treatment. 9.Irregular heartbeat. With low magnesium levels, the heart can have trouble staying in its regular rhythm. doctors will often prescribe magnesium supplements for patients who complain of an irregular heartbeat. 10.Increased sensitivity to noise. Not having enough magnesium curtails its role in stabilizing the nervous system, This often results in hyperflexia, an enhanced startle reflex. And 11. Depression and anxiety. Low levels of magnesium in the brain can affect neurological functions that result in all sorts of problems. Studies have shown that some phobias -- such as agoraphobia -- have developed as a result of low magnesium levels. You hear about them all the time. Retin A. Retinol. Renova. Retinoids. Are they all the same? What exactly do they do? Is one more effective than the others? In this episode of DermTV, Dr. Schultz answers these questions. http://DermTV.com Connect with DermTV: http://www.facebook.com/dermtv http://www.twitter.com/dermtv [TRANSCRIPT] Today I'm going to help you finally understand the difference between Retinoids, Retin-A, Retinol and Renova! And stay tuned until the end of this episode for the question of the day; if you answer it correctly, you'll have a chance to win a free skincare product! Retin-oids, Retin-A ,Retin-ol and Renova. We all hear a lot about them, but what's the difference? For all intents and purposes, they all began with Retin-A, so that's where we'll start. Retin-A is the brand name of the original skincare product containing the prescrition-only active ingredient, tretinoin. Tretinoin is the form of Vitamin A that has been turned into an acid... So it's also known as retinoic acid... And was originally developed to fight acne, which it has successfully done for the last 30 years. In the late 1990's, it was discovered that tretinoin could also help reduce fine lines, wrinkles and other signs of photo-aging. Because this use was for a much older population with much drier skin, they put the tretinoin in a much more emollient and moisturizing vehicle, and called it Renova. So the main difference between Retin A and Renova is its vehicle. Now for the fun part! Retinol. We now know that Retin-A is a product that contains the acid derivative of Vitamin A. Retinol, on the other hand, is a non-prescription active ingredient, and a form of Vitamin A... But Retinol is not the acid form of Vitamin A like tretinoin. Instead, it's the actual form of Vitamin A found in animals. Since Retinol is a fairly soluble compound, if it's put on the skin, it can be absorbed into the epidermis where under certain circumstances, in the presence of certain enzymes, a small part of the Retinol, less that 10%, can be converted into tretinoin, which as you know is the active ingredient in Retin A and Renova... Voila! So this stuff really is all related and it's starting to make some sense. So non-prescription Retinol can convert into prescription tretinoin. But the operant word is "can." The conversion is not that predictable. So just because a product contains retinol doesn't mean it can or will do what tretinoin can do in terms of acne or anti-aging treatments... And probably won't. Yet many skincare companies tout their products containing Retinol as working as if they contained tretinoin. This is definitely a case of buyer beware. Now we get to the final term. Retinoids. Retinoids are a class of chemical compounds that are all related to Vitamin A. Retinol and Tretinoin are called first generation Retinoids because their structure is closest to Vitamin A. Less related products are second generation, third, and so on... Finally, connecting the dots, you now know that all of the products I've mentioned today are related to Vitamin A and therefore are collectively called Retinoids. And at last, you now know their uses and differences. Now for today's skincare trivia! Answer today's question correctly within three days of this episode's airing and you'll be entered in a drawing to win a free skincare product. Submit your answer at DermTV Dot Com Slash Trivia. Today's question is: Retin-A's efficacy as an anti-acne and anti-aging product is based on its exfoliating properties. Which exfoliant do I believe is far superior and which I have often referred to as the gold standard for chemical exfoliants? And don't forget. You can find the answer to this and all questions in past DermTV episodes. [ABOUT DERMTV] Everyone can have beautiful, healthy, and younger looking skin, and DermTV, the Internet's daily skincare video show, will demonstrate how by revealing expert tips and techniques and by providing real solutions for real skincare issues. http://www.fioriinstitute.com For tips on having acne free skin Accutane – 5 Tips by Dermatologists Accutane or Roaccutane is a tablet is also known as isotretinoin and is a form of vitamin A. It has been the mainstay for the management of severe acne or scarring acne in Australia, Europe, US and Asia for the past 30 years. Accutane works by targeting the oil glands, and reducing oil production. In lower does it can help remodel dermal collagen and reduce scar formation- including acne scars, Accutane can also reduce blackheads, whiteheads, zits, cysts and pimples. Should I go on Accutane for my acne? Roaccutane should only be used if your acne is severe, cystic or scarring. An off label indication of Roaccutane is if your acne does not respond to normal acne medications. An assessment and discussion with a Dermatologist is needed to ascertain if you are suitable for this medication, as there are numerous side-effects associated with this drug. Accutane has a 99% success rate for the treatment of acne. An average person will need a course lasting between 7-10 months. Improvement is seen within a few weeks of starting this medication. In severe cases of acne, an early and transient ‘flare up’ maybe seen, however your Specialist will undertake steps to minimise this side-effect. What side effects can I expect on Accutane? The most common side effect is dryness of the lips and skin. Universally seen common and very easy to manage. Moisturise frequently and you will sail thru the course of treatment. Use a lip balm at least 3-5 times per day, and moisturise your skin at least twice a day. Some patients may get dry eyes on Roaccutane/ Accutane and using eye drops may help, especially if you wear contact lenses. Your Dermatologist will also order special blood tests throughout your treatment course, making sure your Liver and Cholesterol levels are in check. Female patients are warned in regards to the serious consequences in regards to birth defects whilst on Accutane. Other side effects that are less common including- Flare up of acne (usually early in the course of treatment) Headaches Abnormal period cycles Muscle aches and pains Ingrown toe and finger nails Abdominal symptoms Mood changes and depression How long is a course of Roaccutane treatment? The course of Roaccutane/ Oratane is variable and will depend on many factors including the type of acne, your body weight, the location of your acne and the side effects you may experience on this tablet. As a guide- Average length of treatment 6-9 months Severe acne involving bacne acne, trunkal acne 10-12 months Low dose Roaccutane / Oratane program 14-20 months Your Dermatologist will decide as to what is the optimal course of Roaccutane/ Accutane treatment based upon your acne type and your lifestyle. Will a course of Accutane treat my acne scars? That is a difficult question to answer, as results are variable. Accutane is not designed as a treatment for acne scars, but a treatment to treat and cure acne. Treating active acne forms the foundation for acne scar treatment. In regards to Accutane and acne scars the following facts apply- Some patients can receive mild improvement of acne scars on this drug. Low dose Accutane has been shown to remodel scars and increase collagen production. Roaccutane/ Accutane patients are not candidates for laser scar revision during the course of Roaccutane, and a wash out period of 3-6 months will be needed. We now have a method of treating acne patients on Roaccutane with a non- laser method of scar revision called RF or RadioFrequency. This treatment has proven to be safe and effective in the majority of patients, however careful monitoring is needed. This forms the basis of the Acne Free RF Program, which was designed by Dr Davin Lim. What skin care should I use whilst on Accutane/ Roaccutane Treatment? Looking after your skin whist on Roaccutane/ Oratane/ Accutane is vitally important and can markedly reduce the side effects of this medication. Keep your acne skin care regime simple, and moisturise frequently! Clean your skin twice a day with a low irritant cleanser- I recommend Cetaphil, QV Wash or Neutrogena Gentle wash. Moisturise your skin twice a day- I recommend Cetaphil moisturiser. Moisturise your lips 4-6 times a day, most importantly just before bedtime as this will reduce severity of ‘dry lips on roaccutane’. Using a high factor SPF sunscreen twice a day can reduce the incidence of sunburn on this medication. I recommend La Roche Posay. Thanks for watching this short video on Accutane, and remember to stay safe. Lasers and Lifts http://www.lasersandlifts.com.au Realself reviews: http://www.realself.com/find/Australi... As I learn, so do you all. I must maintain my integrity and be humble and, when my opinion changes based on new, personal experience as well as a more in-depth understanding of a topic, I must share it with my community. A recent New York Times article cited a report that alleged that extra doses of vitamins can do more harm than good. But does this apply to topically applied vitamins in the form of antioxidants? In this episode of DermTV, Dr. Schultz answers that questions and whether or not vitamins are safe in skincare products. http://DermTV.com Connect with DermTV: http://www.facebook.com/dermtv http://www.twitter.com/dermtv [TRANSCRIPT] A recent article in the New York Times entitled "More Evidence Against Vitamin Use" started with the unsettling allegation that, and I quote..."Two new studies suggest that taking extra doses of vitamins can do more harm than good." My goal today is not to comment on the merits, or possible, or even probable flaws in the studies that the article cited...But... Just as an aside, already, there have been learned comments published refuting the allegations cited in the Times article.... Instead, today, what I do want to do is to make sure that readers of the article do not confuse its message with vitamins applied topically to your skin as antioxidants because antioxidants are so important in maintaining the health of your skin. So first, to clarify things, the study was referring only to oral vitamin use, not to vitamins applied to your skin in the form of antioxidants. Shall I say more? Ok. Fine... You knew I would! So second, I know of no circumstance where topical vitamins have had any adverse affect on the skin and there's no reason to believe that extra doses of vitamins applied topically can do any harm... of course unless if you're allergic to them. In fact, vitamins applied to your skin do a ton of good, and I would even argue are necessary. You see, the skin's need for topical antioxidants arises from its unique vulnerability of being the only organ in the body that gets a double dose of dangerous high energy free radicals that contribute to both cancer and premature aging. That double dose is the result of the endogenous, naturally occurring free radicals that arise in almost every cell in every organ in the body, and from the unique formation in the skin of ultraviolet induced free radicals from sun light, despite the regular use of effective sunscreens. As you all know from watching DermTV, topically applied vitamins in the form of antioxidants work by being absorbed into your skin and neutralizing the harmful effects of the free radicals. So for those of you who have read the Times article, you can now rest assured that daily topical vitamin -- "antioxiant" -- use is safe and good for you. [ABOUT DERMTV] Everyone can have beautiful, healthy, and younger looking skin, and DermTV, the Internet's daily skincare video show, will demonstrate how by revealing expert tips and techniques and by providing real solutions for real skincare issues. The Vitamin That Could Double Your Chance Of Beating Breast Cancer!Breast Cancer Friendly Vitamins Thanks For Watching This Video: The Vitamin That Could Double Your Chance Of Beating Breast Cancer!Breast Cancer Friendly Vitamins : https://youtu.be/rkczekHOgLU Don't forget to Subscribe for updates: https://goo.gl/WqO5fo Research has shown over and over again how important active prevention is when it comes to lowering your risk of cancer. Prevention may come in the form of exercising, eating a balanced diet full of whole foods, refraining from substance abuse and making sure that your body gets the nutrients it needs to stay healthy. According to Carole Baggerly, founder of GrassrootsHealth, as much as 90% of ordinary breast cancer may be related to Vitamin D deficiency, and there are several recent studies to back up her claim. The Link Between Breast Cancer And Vitamin D A meta-analysis published in the March 2014 issue of Anticancer Research found that patients diagnosed with breast cancer who had high Vitamin D levels were twice as likely to survive, compared to women with low levels of Vitamin D. Over 4,5000 breast cancer patients were part of the analysis. Researchers studied the patients over a nine-year period. Co-author of the study, Professor Cedric F. Garland, explained, “As long as Vitamin D receptors were present, tumor growth was prevented and kept from expanding its blood supply. Vitamin D receptors are not lost until a tumor is very advanced. This is the reason for better survival in patients whose Vitamin D blood levels are high.” The researchers urged doctors to make Vitamin D monitoring and optimization an important part of standard breast cancer care. They recommend that breast cancer patients should restore their Vitamin D levels to a normal range of 30-80 ng/ml. In a 2011 study, Dr. Garland found that a Vitamin D level of 50 ng/ml is associated with a 50% lower risk of breast cancer. His team concluded a minimum protective level to be 40 ng/ml of Vitamin D. This equals out to anywhere from 1,000 IUs to as much as 8,000 IUs of Vitamin D3 each day. This number is much higher than the recommended daily allowance of 600 IUs of Vitamin D for adults. Vitamin D From The Sun Vs. Oral Supplements The best way to optimize your Vitamin D levels is to spend time outdoors each day. When you expose your skin to the sun, it synthesizes Vitamin D3 sulfate – a form of Vitamin D that is water-soluble. Oral Vitamin D3 supplements are not water-soluble. Water-soluble Vitamin D3 from the sun can travel freely throughout your bloodstream, unlike the unsulfated form that needs LDL cholesterol as a form of transport. You can check your Vitamin D levels by using an at-home kit, or by visiting a health care professional. If you can’t get enough sunshine and you choose an oral Vitamin D supplement instead, many experts agree that 35 IUs of Vitamin D per pound of body weight can be used to estimate your ideal dose. However, it is better to check your dosage with a health care professional. In preparing this, I did a thorough review of the established literature and all the things I'm going to discuss are based on evidence and research. 1. Vitamin A is a fat soluble class of vitamins that includes retinol, retinal, and retinoic acid 2. It is an essential component of many aspects of vision. 3. Deficiency is rare in the industrialized world but more common in developing nations. 4. Toxicity is possible, especially from consuming too much supplemental vitamin A 5. It does have therapeutic uses for cancer, measles, and some skin diseases 6. In developed nations with no other risk factors, supplementation is not generally recommended. Vitamin A, also known as Retinol, retinal, retinoid, retinoic acid, isotretinoin, Accutane, carotenoids, beta carotene, beta-carotene , retinyl palmitate, carotene, alpha carotene, gamma carotene Is an essential nutrient. It can be helpful for many skin disease including healthy skin, sunspots, scars, aging, wrinkles, crows feet, acne, skin cancer, psoriasis, eczema, as well as vision. Deficiency can cause night blindness. It may help with cardiovascular disease. You should understand how it’s produced, synthesized, metabolized. It comes in many forms including dietary, supplement and topical creams and treatments.

How To Take Iron Tablet Properly | How To Reduce Iron Tablet Side Effects | Iron Supplements For Best Absorption | Iron Vitamin C | Ferrous Sulphate Hey guys! This weeks video is about how to take an iron supplement so you can get the most out of it and how to reduce the side effects associated with them. Iron supplements are prescribed or recommended when when your anaemic or at risk of developing anaemia because the iron stores in your body are low. Symptoms of iron deficiency anaemia can include: • Tiredness and lack of energy • Shortness of breath • Noticeable heartbeats (heart palpitations) • Pale skin HOW TO TAKE YOUR IRON SUPPLEMENT: To help get the best absorption of your iron supplement you should take it on an empty stomach (preferably one hour before a meal or two hours after) with a drink containing vitamin C, such as a glass of orange juice or another juice drink with added vitamin C. Absorption of iron from the gut is reduced by food, tea and milk, so these should be avoided for one hour before and after taking the iron supplement. The precise instructions for when to take your supplements will be discussed with you by the healthcare professional who prescribes them. The only factor that improves the absorption of iron is vitamin C. This is why we recommend that you take your iron supplement with a drink containing vitamin C. HOW DO IRON SUPPLEMENTS WORK: Iron is needed for the production of haemoglobin, which is an essential ingredient in red blood cells. Haemoglobin is very important as it carries oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body. If you don’t have enough iron, you can develop anaemia, which means that you aren’t making enough red blood cells to carry oxygen around your body. You may become breathless, tired and have a lack of energy, your skin may become pale and you may have palpitations (noticeable heartbeats). COMMON SIDE EFFECTS: The following side effects are common, • Stomach upset • Nausea (feeling sick) • Stomach ache • Diarrhoea • Constipation These usually improve as your body gets used to the iron supplements. If the side effects continue to be a problem for you, contact the healthcare professional who prescribed the iron supplements and discuss the possible options I have recommended in the video with them. Iron supplements can also make your stools look darker in colour. This is completely harmless. IRON SUPPLEMENT INTERACTIONS: Some medicines are not suitable for people with certain conditions, and sometimes a medicine may only be used if extra care is taken. For these reasons, before you start taking an iron supplement it is important that your doctor or pharmacist knows: • If you are taking any other medicines. This includes any medicines you are taking which are available to buy without a prescription, as well as herbal and complementary medicines. • If you have ever had an allergic reaction to a medicine. Link to iron supplement interactions, this link is for ferrous sulphate a commonly prescribed iron supplement. If you are taking a different iron supplement, on the same page you can search the name of it and click interactions - https://bnf.nice.org.uk/interaction/ferrous-sulfate-2.html IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT ALL MEDICINES: Never take more than the prescribed dose. If you suspect that you or someone else might have taken an overdose of this medicine, go to the accident and emergency department of your local hospital. Take the container with you, even if it is empty. This medicine is for you. Never give it to other people even if their condition appears to be the same as yours. If you are having an operation or any dental treatment, tell the person carrying out the treatment which medicines you are taking. If you have any questions about this medicine ask your pharmacist. Tips that are both safe and effective. Just using a good sunscreen like LRP or zinc or titanium dioxide can lighten skin and protect from UV rays. Second tip- AHA or peels with lactic acid chemical peels can markedly lighten skin. Third tip - Vitamin A. Retinoids can help epidermal pigmentation and lighten skin over time. They act as anti wrinkle creams as well so that is a bonus. Fourth tip- The ABCs of skin care, vitamin B and C act as free radical scavengers. Get a reputable brand that is affordable, like Neostrata or Paula's choice. These are all regulated in every country so the ingredients and concentration are the same. Don't waste your money on branded skin care. Final DIY or at home remedy is HQ or hydroquinone. You can get one over the counter or compounded by your dermatologist. Compounded creams and laser treatments is what I prescribe- never cream alone. The synergy of SPF, creams and lasers in my experience gives the best results. Lasers can do more than pigment reduction- they improve skin texture, tone and reduce pores, fine lines, and wrinkles. The use of lasers such as pico or nano q-switch lasers, creams, and the use of IV Glutathione and ascorbic acid can get you two shades lighter. This program must be monitored by a Specialist dermatologist. Please do not go to 'IV Clinics'- these are not regulated and the concentration and infusions are unknown. Just my recommendations for safety. I will be doing a video on IV infusions for skin lightening and the safety of this procedure shortly. Thanks for watching. Subscribe for 3x Videos Per Week! http://www.ThomasDeLauer.com Water Retention: 3 Foods to Reduce Bloating- Thomas DeLauer… What is a Diuretic? Diuretics are sometimes called ‘water tablets’ and are designed to increase the amount of water and salt expelled from the body as urine (termed diuresis) They help get rid of excess fluid by removing sodium and chloride from the body in the urine - the sodium and chloride in turn draw excess water from the body. Too much salt can cause extra fluid to build up in your blood vessels, raising your blood pressure. There are different types of prescribed diuretics acting on different levels of a nephron (the smallest unit of kidney) The basic mechanism seen in most of them is that they act on pumps of a nephron, which means that they decrease the absorption of sodium from urine, and thus more water remains in the urine. (1) Use of Diuretics: Doctors prescribe diuretics when the body is retaining too much fluid. The following conditions may require the regulation of fluid in the body or result in fluid retention: High blood pressure, congestive heart failure, kidney dysfunction, edema (tissue swelling, such as in swollen legs and feet) Diuretics lower your blood pressure by flushing salt out of your body, which causes the walls of your blood vessel to relax and widen - easier for your blood to flow through. Congestive heart failure keeps your heart from pumping blood effectively throughout your body: this leads to a buildup of fluids in your body, which is called edema. Diuretics help reduce this fluid buildup. Prescription diuretics may cause some side effects. These include fatigue, muscle cramps, lightheadedness, rash, and headaches. (1,2,3) Natural Diuretics: Some herbs and dietary supplements have diuretic properties that may be helpful to you and won’t provide any negative side effects. Asparagus: It contains high levels of the amino acid asparagine, which serves as a natural diuretic, and increased urination not only releases fluid but helps rid the body of excess salts. Asparagine also benefits our central nervous system by helping with the maintenance of balance or equilibrium – keeps you from being overly calm or nervous. Also essential for the proper functioning and health of our nerves and other cells of the body, It controls their metabolism in the brain. Dandelion Leaves: Full of vitamins A, B, C, and D, as well as minerals, such as iron, potassium, and zinc. Dandelion leaves are used to add flavor to salads, sandwiches, and teas. Dandelion leaves act as a diuretic, increasing the amount of urine your body makes. The leaves are used to stimulate the appetite and help digestion. Dandelion flower has antioxidant properties. In one study (Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine) dandelion leaves were ingested by volunteers to investigate whether an increased urinary frequency and volume would result. Volume of urinary output and fluid intake were recorded by subjects. For the entire population, 17 subjects, there was a significant increase (5%) in the frequency of urination in just 5 hours after the first dose. You can find dandelion herbs and roots fresh or dried in a variety of forms, including tinctures, liquid extract, teas, tablets, and capsules (4) Parsley: Parsley is one of the best natural diuretics for edema treatment and fluid retention. Parsley increases urine output by acting as an aquaretic, meaning it acts to increase water excretion from the body without affecting electrolytes such as sodium and potassium the way most conventional diuretic drugs do. Parsley’s effect on your body’s electrolytes is largely neutral. Parsley herb extracts have been studied as natural diuretics in combination with another aquaretic, asparagus. Medical doctors may sometimes discredit dietary supplements, but do they really understand them, their actions, interactions with drugs or other relevant issues? Commonly not. Funny thing is they are quick to prescribe drugs that can harm or even make you sick (or kill). Find out more... Greetings, Eric Bakker back here from New Zealand. Thanks for catching up. I brought a question from a patient today from Europe, a lady here. Sounds like she's in England. My doctor told me that it was a risk to take prescribed dietary supplements. What do I do? Well, that already depends on what you want to do. I mean what type of dietary supplements are we talking about? Some people I see take 30 or 40 supplements per day. On top of that they're taking about five different drugs. They take anti-depressants, and sleeping pills and anti-psychotic medication and cancer drugs. When you're taking a whole array of pharmaceutical medications, you're really better off getting a professional opinion. In my opinion, not from a medical doctor, but more from a integrative doctor or a doctor who works with natural medicine and conventional western medicine, a doctor who isn't training in both fields. It's a little bit like going to a Catholic and asking for advice on becoming a Muslim, or a meat eater talking to a vegan. You don't do that. Alright. You're going to get totally conflicting points of view. If you're doctor has been purely trained in western pharmaceutical medicine, he or she is going to have no understanding or knowledge of dietary supplements or scant information that they learned from drug company reps that come around. B, they could be potentially hostile towards you wanting to incorporate some supplements into your regime. My advice would be to go and see someone who's got a lot of experience, who's quite professional in this field, who can understand if there's any interaction between the supplements and the pharmaceutical drugs. If you're not taking and pharmaceutical drugs at all, I can't see any reason why you can't take some dietary supplements like a multi-vitamin for example, or an Omega-3, or a magnesium supplement. The majority of people are going to benefit from these supplements. It's interesting how the doctor says it's a risk with prescribed supplements, when you can buy drugs like Tylenol, freely over the counter. I was at Walgreen's in Los Angeles a bout a month ago. I couldn't believe all these bargain bins with toxic drugs for sale for like two dollars. People buy them like candy. I mean, how dumb is that? Don't forget that one of the leading causes of admissions in American hospitals for liver failure is people who go and take or acetaminophen they call it over there. It's also one of the leading causes of youth suicide is acetaminophen and Coca-cola. That's not very prescribed, is it? It's up to you which way you want to go. My opinion, seek professional advice if in doubt, otherwise, just be careful. Thanks for tuning in.

https://www.instagram.com/drdavinlim/ Instagram- more on skin care tips, reviews & me https://www.fioriinstitute.com Brisbane’s acne and skin care solutions clinic Realself reviews – if you want to know what I do http://www.realself.com/find/Australi... Google + Skin care & procedures by Dr Davin Lim https://plus.google.com/u/0/b/1139391... SKIN CARE TIPS- Treating ACNE Here are a few helpful hints to sort out your acne before seeing a dermatologist. These are all science based medical treatments that can help 90% of acne prone patients. Remember that every skin is unique, and the cause of acne is multifactorial including- oily skin, blackheads, congested skin, hormonal, diet related, stress related, using pore clogging make ups, medications and countless other factors. Hence treatments ideally should be tailored for each individual. I suggest trying these tips for at least 6 to 8 weeks before seeing a dermatologist- the exception is if you have cystic acne or scarring acne. Preventing acne scarring is a lot easier than treating acne scars. So here are my tips before seeing a medical dermatologist- 1. Your product review. Use products that contain the disclaimer ‘non- comedogenic'. This applies to all skin care products including moisturisers, sunscreen, actives, and make up. Use mineral and not an oil based foundation. Let your skin breathe 2 days a week. Your pores will thank you for it. 2. Diet changes- see my website for diet hints and down load the acne diet guide in the resources section. If you flare up with a food group- avoid it. Obviously... 3. Exfoliate- either manually twice to three times a week or with an AHA cream. Neostrata 10-15 a few nights a week can help. Be careful if you are using a retinoid. 4. Peels- BHA or salicylic acid peels are best- AHAs can also help. 5. Light treatment- Blue and red light, medical devices including Kleresca, IPL and even old fashioned 20 year old Omnilux can help. Newer LEDs are better than Omnilux as they incorporate 2 blue wavelengths rather than old generation Omlilux Blue 6. Carbon Spectra laser peels- new video out soon on this treatment, helps with early acne scars. One of the best ways to treat acne- this targets carbon within the oil gland- safe, effective with the added bonus of skin rejuvenation, all with NO downtime. That's why its called the Hollywood Peel. 7. Vitamins and tea tree oil- zinc sulfate double dose, and tea tree oil can reduce acne. Proven in many scientific journals. 8. Retinoids and retinol- start off with over the counter retinol then progress to Adapelene or first generation tretinoin. Tazorac is a third generation retinoid, most powerful. With power comes responsibility, so be careful with this. I have done 3 videos on how to incorporate retinoids into your skin care. 30 minutes of skin care tips and skin care routines. If all else fails please see a MEDICAL dermatologist for further management. Disclaimer- I am a laser and surgical dermatologist, this means I do not treat acne – just acne scarring and other forms of procedural work. The exception is if you have PIE and acne and require laser treatment. Medical dermatologist can investigate and prescribe you medication. I do not prescribe medication for acne. Why? Because my work load to too high with procedural cases, so in the best safety of the patient, monitoring through a medical dermatologist is the best practice. If you do have acne and acne scarring, I will manage your scar revision and place you on a programme to minimise your scars. At the same time I will refer you to a medical dermatologist for acne management. Alternatively visit The Fiori Institute - therapist trained by myself to manage acne and skin concerns without any prescription medications. Thanks for watching this video, one new educational video every Saturday morning, Brisbane Australia time. Dr Davin Lim. Laser and Aesthetic dermatologist.

How my uncle lowered his blood sugar naturally, reversed his diabetes & lost 34lbs: 👉 http://drsam.co/yt/Lower-BloodSugar Or see the 10 ways to lower your A1C levels: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kR73rIarJi8&index=15&list=PLkoAH5env5qXn_YoUY5GbAqnlmqWVEgX1 ======================================= 🍬 Metformin - Serious Problems & Natural Alternatives ======================================= A few years ago my uncle was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. He was quickly prescribed Metformin, also known as Glucophage. I told him immediately NOT to take this drug and I’ll tell you why in a minute … However, he refused to listen to me and said “my doctor told me I have to take this, probably the rest of my life, or else I’ll have to start taking insulin shots and I hate needles”. Of course, this is what doctors do - prescribe drugs. They are legal drug pushers, no different than the street drug dealer pushing narcotics. His doctor never asked what he ate, what my uncle should eat… No talk about exercise, supplements, stress management or anything else that will naturally improve his blood sugar, which would be the only REAL long-term solution … and NOT a drug that’s loaded with negative side-effects. And trust me, I’m not against drugs - I just hate it when they are the FIRST and usually the ONLY solution a doctor will give you. Now, in regards to Metformin - this is a drug that I personally took in around 1992 to improve my blood sugar and insulin sensitivity - so I can gain more muscle and lose fat. In fact, many of my clients and professional athletes used this drug for the same reasons. Additionally, Metformin is known to have anti-aging benefits as well… So for me, it was a double bonus. However, within days I felt the negative side-effects and so did my friends and clients. Immediately, I started to feel unwell -- stomach pain, nausea, loss of appetite, heartburn, headaches and so forth. I just felt slow and sluggish... But, I kept pushing and kept taking the drug, hoping the negative side-effects would dissipate over time. And some of them did… or, maybe I just tolerated them better. However, over time there were more serious side-effects. For me and a few of my friends and clients, was kidney problems - which is a known side-effects of the drug. Poor kidney function can also lead to elevated blood pressure, which it did in other people I knew and later, liver problems as well. Remember, even though your kidneys and liver have different roles, they DO work WITH each other. As one weakens, so will the other. Mind you, NONE of us took the recommended dosage for diabetics, we took half the dose. Just imagine how much worse it is for diabetics taking the full dosage?!!... Which in fact, is why most users of Metformin typically do not refill their prescriptions and rarely use the drug for more than a few months. YET, it’s one of the most prescribed drugs for diabetics, other than later prescribing insulin shots. Additional side-effects of Metformin are heart problems and lactic acidosis - which is a very serious problem and very common with Metformin. Which has caused many deaths with this drug. In fact, drinking alcohol or taking any drug that puts strain on your liver or kidneys, magnifies this side-effect. … So to make a long story short, we all gave up on this drug and I later discovered various herbs, vitamins and minerals that when combined together - had much better benefits, no side-effects and yes, still had the anti-aging benefits. You can get more detail about these natural alternatives to Metformin below this video, in the description area. However, don’t go there just yet… I’m not done with the story. So about a year later I was at a family wedding and I saw my uncle again and ask him how he was doing. He said “I’m doing okay, I’m eating less sugars and I’ve improved my diet and walking daily. My blood sugar has improved, but it’s still high and so is my A1C levels. My doctor isn’t very happy and neither is my wife.” I then asked about Metformin and his dosage and he said “oh, you were right… I got off of it. My kidneys weren’t working well because of it and my doctor decided to switch me to another drug and I had problems with that, so I decided to just stop taking everything and let my body heal”. And to make a long story short - he is no longer diabetic. No drugs. No insulin and NO needles! ======================================== Thank you for watching. QUESTION NUMBER 1: The 33-year-old hypertensive client mentions that she thinks she is pregnant. Upon reviewing the client’s list of medications, the nurse takes note of which of medications that can be contraindicated in pregnancy? Select all that apply A. Lisinopril (Prinivil) B. Amlodipine (Norvasc) C. Metoprolol (Lopressor) D. Irbesartan (Avapro) E. Methyldopa (Aldomet) F. Simvastatin (Zocor) It is very important for women to review their medication list with their obstetrician as soon as she discovers that she is pregnant. Women should not use Prinivil if they are pregnant. Studies have proven that it could cause harm to the unborn baby. You might see Norvasc ordered for your pregnant patient. Her doctor may prescribe it when the benefit outweighs the risks. Animal studies have failed to reveal evidence of teratogenicity or fetal toxicity, however there are no controlled studies done on women. Human studies have been done on pregnant women and findings are that Norvasc Metoprolol readily crosses the placenta, but, no teratogenic effects have been reported. The data of its use during pregnancy has no controls. It may be prescribed when the benefit outweighs the risk.as there is no controlled data in human pregnancy. Avapro is in category D by the FDA. Some studies have proved increased incidence of early fetal resorptions and a decrease in live births. This drug acts directly on the renin-angiotensin system and can cause fetal and neonatal morbidity and death when administered to pregnant women so is considered contraindicated. You may find Norvasc ordered for your pregnant patient when the benefits outweigh the risk. It does pass the placenta and it occasionally causes mild hypotension in neonates of treated mothers. However, it has been safely used to treat hypertension during pregnancy and many doctors consider using it as the drug of choice for their pregnant hypertensive patients. The use of zocor during pregnancy is contraindicated. This drug is in the US FDA pregnancy categor X since studies in animals or humans have demonstrated fetal abnormalities. So, the risks involved in using Zocor during pregnancy outweigh the potential benefits. Answer: Ans.: A, D, F are contraindicated in pregnancy. Always look for phrases like “the benefits outweigh the risks” (meaning it may be prescribed) and “’the risk outweighs the benefit”; (meaning it should not be prescribed) and always closely check all drugs ordered for pregnant and lactating women.

✳ Grab your (free) vegan quick-start guide to get all the nutrients and energy you need: http://bit.ly/veganook-start ✳ Check out my book, Protein from Plants: http://bit.ly/protein-from-plants ⭢ My daily vegan supplements: http://a.co/abTOprG B12 Supplement recommendations: http://bit.ly/vit-B12 One nutrient that vegans in particular need to supplement is B12, although vegetarians and meat eaters can easily need to supplement their diet with it as well. Your body stores an extra supply of it, so it can take up to 2 years for any vitamin B12 deficiency symptoms to creep up on you. You risk permanent damage to your nervous system and brain if you let this one get too far though, so be on the lookout for those symptoms. Early Vitamin B12 Deficiency Symptoms: Unusual fatigue Faulty digestion No appetite Nausea Loss of menstruation Tingling hands and feet (start of serious deficiency) If you don't get levels back up from there, it can result in permanent nerve damage and get very serious, causing blindness or deafness. Also, homocysteine levels will be high (risk factor for heart disease, stroke and complications during pregnancy) long before any of the early vitamin B12 deficiency symptoms show up. If children don't get enough B12 during childhood, their levels can be corrected but the period where they didn't have enough can have permanent effects on their brain and nerve functions. Maintaining your own B12 levels while breastfeeding is crucial. You can be tested for B12 deficiency by your doctor, and the most accurate method of testing is a urine or blood test called a Methylmalonic Acid test (MMA). It can detect deficiency much earlier and much more accurately than the standard blood test most doctors use to test for serum cobalamin levels and pernicious anemia. If you're seeing vitamin B12 deficiency symptoms, or show low levels in a blood test, the obvious solution is to raise B12 levels. Depending on how low your levels are, go for any or all of the following: - supplements (my recommendations here: http://bit.ly/vit-B12) - fortified foods (nut/grain milks, cereals, certain nutritional yeasts) - B12 injections (done by a doctor, for severe deficiency or people who aren't absorbing B12 through digestion) Have you ever noticed any of these symptoms in yourself?
