The first group received their medications plus a placebo and the other group received their medications plus pomegranate juice. After 3 months, stress-induced angina episodes decreased by 50% in the pomegranate group and actually increased by 37% in the placebo group. Another, more recent study measured atherosclerosis (thickening of the arterial wall), the major risk factor for a heart attack or stroke. A group of cardiac patients were divided into two groups. The first group took statin drugs only, while another group received statin drugs plus pomegranate juice. In the drugs-only group, the arterial wall thickened by 9% a year, while the drugs plus pomegranate group showed a 35% reversal in arterial wall thickening. According to the experts, pomegranates support the function of nitric oxide, which is involved in the constant repair of the cells that line the arterial walls. An antioxidant, pomegranate was shown to reduce the oxidative status of the bad cholesterol by a whopping 90%. How to Open a Pomegranate? Follow the simple instructions: 1 .First, you need to fill a large bowl with water. 2 .Then, using a sharp knife, make two deep, long slits on top of the pomegranate in the shape of a ‘x’ from stem to crown. 3 .Do this on a cutting board for more support. 4 .Place the pomegranate in the bowl of water. 5 .And now, put your thumbs where you made the ‘x’ shaped slit, and pry open the pomegranate into wedges and pull the wedges apart into manageable pieces. 6 .Do this underwater to prevent splashing the red juice. 7 .Gently remove the pith, while keeping the fruit under water. Then use your fingers to gently remove the red seeds. The seeds will sink to the bottom and the membrane and pith will float to the top. 8 .Pour out the water, reserving the pomegranate seeds. Gently pat dry the pomegranate seeds. Serve immediately or store covered in the fridge. NOTE: we highly recommend that you should always go for the seeds, rather than a store-bought juice. Why? Well, because this “juice” contains high amounts of sugar. And, one last thing – if you really want to get the full benefits of this amazing fall fruit, don’t throw out the white pith! Physical inactivity, along increasing tobacco use and poor diet and nutrition, are increasingly becoming part of today’s lifestyle leading to the rapid rise of diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, or obesity. There is abundant evidence that obesity increases the risk of elevated blood sugar, hypertension, and hypercholesterolemia. Similarly, there is ample evidence that weight loss mitigates those risk factors. Several recent studies, however, have explored the question of whether obesity increases the risk of CVD. Some Myths Myth -1: High cholesterol is the cause of heart disease. That's simply NOT true. Your cholesterol level (alone) is a very poor predictor of future heart attacks. "Serum cholesterol is not a strong risk factor for CHD, in the sense that blood pressure is a strong risk factor for stroke or cigarette smoking is a risk factor for lung cancer." "The cholesterol factor is of minor importance as a risk factor in CVD. Of far more importance are smoking, hypertension, obesity, diabetes, insufficient physical activity, and stress." Myth -2: Statin drugs are perfectly safe and help to prevent a heart attack. Saturated fat causes heart disease. This myth is ridiculous. In fact, peer-reviewed studies show NO correlation between dietary saturated fat consumption and cardiovascular disease. In reality, you'll do more damage to your arteries by consuming toxic fats, processed sugars and too many omega-6 fatty acids - which cause inflammation and damage arterial walls. Statins and Grapefruit & pomegranate ยาในกลุ่ม Statins เป็นยาที่ลดระดับไขมัน cholesterol ได้อย่างดี แต่โชค ไม่ดีที่การดื่มน้ำผลไม้ทีมีชื่อว่า grapefruit ซึ่งมีลักษณะคล้านส้มโอ จะทำ ให้ระดับของ statins ในกระแสเลือดเพิ่มขึ้น ซึ่งจะนำไปสู่การทำให้เกิดผล ข้างเคียงสูงขึ้น ผลข้างเคียงของยากลุ่ม statins ได้แก่อาการปวดกล้ามเนื้อ,ตับถูกทำลาย ทำให้ระดับเอ็นไซม์ของตับ glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT) และ Glutamic pyruvic transaminase (SGPT) สูงขึ้น ทั้งน้ำที่ได้จากผลไม้ Grapefruit และ pomegranate (ทับทิม) แม้ว่าจะมี สารที่มีประโยชน์ต่อร่างกายก็ตาม แต่ไม่ควรใช้รวมกับยา statins เพื่อลด ระดับไขมัน cholesterol แต่น้ำดื่มทั้งสองมันทำปฏิกริยา ด้วยการยับยั้ง เอ็นไซม์ (CYP3A4) ที่ร่างกายใช้เพื่อทำลาย หรือสลายสาร Statin ยังผล ให้มีสาร statin ในกระแสเลือดสูง ซึ่งเป็นเหตุให้เกิดมีการทำลายกล้ามเนื้อ (rhabdomyolysis) ทำให้เกิดโรคไตวายได้ ปฏิกิริยาที่เกิดจากผลไม้ grapefruit กับ simvastatin และ lovastatin จะสูงมาก แต่กับ Lipitor จะต่ำกว่า และไม่มีผลเสียในราย pravastatin ดังนั้นก่อนที่จะให้ยาลดกรด cholesterol ด้วย statin ร่วมกับการรับ ประทาน Grapefruit ควรพิจารณาใช้ยาให้ถูกต้อง Grapefruit juice มันจะออกฤทธิ์ที่ผนังของลำไส้ โดยทำการบล๊อกเอ็นไซม์ ชื่อ CYP 3A4 ซึ่งทำหน้าที่ทำลายยาหลายตัว รวมทั้ง statin เป็นเหตุให้ ยาเหล่านี้ถูกดูดซึมเข้าสูกรแสเลือดในปริมาณสูง ยังผลให้เกิดผลข้างเคียง มีการทำลายกล้ามเนื้อได้ 2. Warfarin and Grapefruit & pomegranate: น้ำดื่มที่ได้จากผลไม้ ชือ grapefruit มันจะออกฤทธิ์ยับยั้งการทำงาน ของเอ็นไซม์ชื่อ CYP 3A4 ซึ่งเอ็นไซม์ตัวนี้จะออกฤทธิ์ทำให้เกิดการ เปลี่ยนแปลงยาบางอย่าง เช่น warfarin เมื่อเอ็นไซม์ถูกยับยั้ง ก็จะ ทำให้ยา warfarin ในกระแสเลือสูงขึ้น ยังผลให้เกิดมีเลือดออกภาย ในร่างกาย, เลือดกกำเดาออก มีประจำเดือนออกอย่างรุนแรงมาก... หมายเหตุ... Pomegranate ก็ออกฤทธ์ยับยั้ง (inhibit) เอ็นไซม์ชื่อ CYP3A4 เหมือนกัน มันน่าจะออกฤทธิต่อ warfarin ในลักษณะเดียวกัน…นั้นคือ ทำให้เลือดออก 3. ยาลดความดัน Calcium Channel Blockers and Grapefruit และ Pomegranate ยารักษาโรคความดันโลหิตสูง ชื่อ Calcium channel blockers เมื่อใชร่วกับ ผลไม้ grapefruit ซึ่งมีสารตามธรรมชาติ จะจับตัวกับเอ็นในลำไส้ชื่อ CYP 3A4 ซึ่งจะเปล่ยนแปลงการทำลายยา calcium channel blockers เป็นเหตุให้ยาลดความดันโลหิตตัวดังกล่าวในกระแสเลือดสูง...พร้อมกับการทำให้เกิดผลข้างเคียงได้รุนแรง

How To Clean Your Arteries From Cholesterol || How To Reduce Cholesterol Level You can greatly reduce cholesterol levels by simply changing your diet and knowing the right foods to eat. Daily exercise also helps to reduce cholesterol. Lowering your LDL, or bad, cholesterol levels reduces the risk of plaque build-up in the arteries. LDL cholesterol can stick to the artery walls and form hard, thick plaque that can narrow the arteries and lead to heart disease and heart attack. HDL, or good, cholesterol fights LDL cholesterol by pushing it into the liver where it is eliminated to prevent plaque build-up. Get at least 25 to 30 grams of dietary fiber a day from fruits, vegetables, legumes, oatmeal, oat bran and whole grains, the American Heart Association recommends. Limit your intake of cholesterol from food to less than 300 mg a day, but less than 200 mg per day if you have high LDL blood cholesterol and you are taking medication for high cholesterol. Avoid the trans and saturated fats in vegetable shortening, partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, dried foods, potato chips and doughnuts. Stay away from trans fats, which are found in such items as baked cookies, crackers and cake. Trans fats can raise your LDL cholesterol levels and lower your HDL cholesterol levels. Choose lean meats over organ meats, egg substitutes instead of egg yolks and skim milk rather than whole milk products Eat fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids. These include salmon, mackerel, herring and tuna. Also consume cod and halibut, which have less total fat, saturated fat and cholesterol than most meats and poultry. Don’t smoke, and if you do, quit. Smoking is known to elevate LDL cholesterol and lower HDL cholesterol levels.
