'Medicare Extra' Is NOT 'Medicare For All'

Оценок: 1556 | Просмотров: 64512
This is a bad thing, but a good sign. Cenk Uygur, host of The Young Turks, breaks it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. http://www.tytnetwork.com/join Read more here: https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/liberal-health-care-proposal_us_5a8e4385e4b0161d431869d1 "A prominent liberal think tank just put out an ambitious new health care proposal. That doesn’t sound like news, until you consider which think tank it is ― and exactly what it’s proposing. The think tank is the Center for American Progress, which is based in Washington and has close ties to the Democratic Party establishment. The proposal, which its authors call “Medicare Extra for All,” would create a new public program, based on Medicare, that would be open to anybody. The proposal, which Ricardo Alonso-Zaldivar of The Associated Press first reported Wednesday evening, also calls for automatically enrolling the uninsured, among others, in this new program ― in the hopes of finally achieving universal coverage. Some will call this plan a single-payer proposal, because it’s easy to imagine, someday, everybody being part of this new version of Medicare. Some will say it’s not a single-payer proposal, because it envisions a permanent, potentially large role for private insurance ― as a provider of highly regulated plans that would function more or less the way private plans for seniors on Medicare operate today.”* Hosts: Cenk Uygur Cast: Cenk Uygur *** The Largest Online News Show in the World. Doctors are Referral Scam artists... I've been waiting nearly a month they have somebody look at my back.. (After, going to the emergency room which the hospital was absolutely worthless and costed several hundred dollars & also, dealing with health ins.) I found that most doctors are specialty doctors. They are so specialized that-- they don't actually do anything: other than, referred you to another doctor and get their referral Commission. But, All of them Claim that they are fully-fledged doctor, of their field. Just, got back from the doctor that I was referred to by The Hospital. It turns out that their office does Surgeries-- but, they don't prescribe medication.. ?? Yet, they require $500 deposit, to make an appointment. So, I need to go to and other doctor... For they can figure out what is wrong with my back and make sure I have the proper Medication, for my injury. Losing faith in the Medical Profession... My back will probably Heal on its Own-- before, I get Proper Medical Service/care.

we need the single payer system (paid by taxes/government) with private providers, I don't want VA type system that hire doctors to provide services.

Speaking of EMS... You want a real story about corporate greed? Did you know that the mean salary of a Paramedic in the US is approx $32,000? Did you know that number is lower across the country if the paramedic works for a private, corporate-run EMS company? Did you know that Paramedics administer the same life saving care in the pre hospital setting that Emergency Room Doctors and Nurses administer in an Emergency Department for a patient that goes into Cardiac arrest? Did you know that EMS crews respond to calls of unknown origin on a daily basis, and they often are the only responders that go to the house? Did you know that multiple EMS workers are assaulted on a daily basis across the country? Did you know that many EMS agencies get bill reimbursement rates of about 5%-10% for Medicaid transports? Did you know that Medicare pays a little more than that, but not much? Did you know that many ambulances across the country have over 200,000 miles on them, yet they're still in service 24/7? Did you know that many EMS providers across the country don't have the proper equipment to administer appropriate care to patients? If you call 911, you may actually get an Ambulance that had over 400,000 miles on it, it may or may not have all of the necessary equipment on it in order to treat your ailment, and it may take anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 hours to actually get the ambulance to show up at your emergency? Did you know that many EMS providers have taken the same patient to the emergency department over 10 times this year already, and it's only the end of February? You want a story? Do a story on the broken EMS system across the country.

What do you all think of the comparisons to the German and Swiss systems? Those seem to work well for them on both cost and outcomes. Now is this actually an accurate comparison? Not sure yet. If it is though, I wouldn't be totally against looking at this proposal. Of course in reality I don't believe them for 2 seconds, as soon as it comes time to implement the bill they will immediately cave just like in 2009.
Eric Burkheimer (9 месяцев назад)
Perhaps they see it as a stepping stone, and that will get to Medicare for all. They may not want to push it all at once bc they don't want to there to be any screw up, cause in that case the people might want to get rid of Medicare for all if it proves to be too much hassle or something goes wrong. Again, maybe this is what THEY think, not me

Not sure Medicare Extra is progress. When people pressed hard for single payer, a lot of them were bought off with ObamaCare. As usual, this is throwing a few crumbs at the peasants and stalling any genuine progress towards what is really needed.

As a physician, and husband of someone with a chronic illness, I can speak from both the perspective of a provider and consumer of healthcare... So believe me when I say the solution to our healthcare problem in the USA is not as simple as "medicare for all." Medicare sucks at a lot of things. If my wife had to rely on Medicare for her prescription coverage, the life changing medication which she requires indefinitely, for the rest of her life, would not be covered, and would be prohibitively expensive even with my above-average salary as a physician. Albeit a step in the right direction, there is a lot of nuance lost in essentially just proclaiming "Medicare for all FTW!" I have come to expect more nuanced reporting out of TYT, and so I have been consistently disappointed with your coverage of this issue. I think your organization suffers from lack of perspective of medical professionals.

Cenk is usually very strong on policies, which is great. In this instance, he is being too soft on the Center for American Progress. Why? Because, just like their name, they're trying to co-opt the progressive movement with corporate friendly alternatives. They even picked a name that will confuse people. We already know the logical conclusion of that: With the ACA, more people were supposed to be covered and there was initially going to be a public option. But it ended up with no public option and no cost controls giving the healthcare industry to the private insurers and putting people deep in debt by vastly raising costs. It's also like when AT&T launched a social media campaign for an "alternative" to the current net neutrality solutions. CAP's intentions are nefarious and will always lead us back to the system that empowered corrupt, wealthy people like Trump. So CAP's actions should make us come down even harder on them. If we act like we are working with them, they will feel empowered in their deceptive tactics. So we have to show them that, when you come out soft on an issue, you're part of the problem.

This is not a win this is a loss. Corporate Democrats are cashing in on the popularity of Medicare, and hanging its name on what is essentially government-sponsored AFLAC. There are a lot of early babyboomers who are being fired, laid off and they need Medicare Extra. It could act as a bridge until they get to 65. I would be in favor for anyone between the age of 52 to 65 who needs health insurance. I would not be in favor for everyone! because yes, it would be too expensive. The medicare for the babyboomers could possibly cost double the premium that Medicare cost ($240) and cover MOST OF WHAT MEDICARE COVERS, NOT ALL.

I can’t wait for Jimmy Dore’s rant. Hey Neera, MEDICARE FOR ALL! Try it. It will save us $17 trillion over the next ten years. This “extra” plan saves those who are uninsured (are you not merciful), but leaves out those who also want a piece of the pie in savings. Progressives are supposed to think about the whole crowd. C’mon let’s do it, let’s go let’s go let’s go Need a Tampax.

Speaking not about craven ,opportunistic careerists like Neera Tanden and other establishment democrats but a general centrists democratic voter like TYTs Ben Mank for example, I think that perhaps it is the case that psychologically there are people who feel the world is too daunting of a place if they don't adhere to the idea that the people wielding the biggest power are also the most honorable and responsible, deserving by virtue of their position the powers they've been given. I feel something similar is at play with those who insist on protecting the current Democratic Party leadership, and DNC. They struggle to accept a picture of the world where a party as threatening as the Republican Party and Donald Trump don't have an appropriate and adequate force set to defeat them already operating and in place. They therefore trick themselves into seeing the opposition as the heroes that they are so obviously not, to the extent that they ignore its dangerous and consistent failures. Which might explain why they so aggressively fight against change. They don't see it as necessary but as 'dangerous disruption', regardless of how thoroughly the people and institutions they've put their trust in have collapsed and lead to the current state of affairs.

Mario Quade (9 месяцев назад)
Go Medicare for All at once without any Public Option step in between. As a German who's insured via our equivalent to Medicare, I can definitely tell you, that keeping private insurance as a corner stone of your healthcare system will only lead to problems. Physicians, as long as you do not make it law that they can not, will be able to charge privately insured patients more and hence give them preferential treatment. That will, once again, drive up costs of the system in general and will lead to not privately insured people again going to the ER with all kind of problems, because they couldn't get a timely appointment at their doctor's office. And if it is written into law that physicians can always only charge the same then what would be the point for getting privately insured at all?
Abe McLaughlin (9 месяцев назад)
They will do everything they can for the rest of their generation to prevent universal full health coverage like all the other Western countries have. Once they all die (or retire) then finally the next generation can come up and finally maybe get us into the right track.

Universal health care isn't practical? We are one of the wealthiest countries in the world. Canada and the UK both have less money than us and they made it work

Also our private insurance is to ADD to the Healthcare we get from the government. and Eric L is right. Here's a rundown for you: my brother felt lump in his throat May 2017, got ultrasound and when doctors didn't like the looks {thought it COULD be cancer} it they booked him for surgery. June 2017 had half thyroid removed and tested. August 2017 had other half removed after they found it was cancer. Feb 2018 still clear and cancer-free. 6mths from "hmmm odd" to complete recovery/cleared
