In Home care are very big stealers cause the hours are written not checked in on a computer. Employers are very biased and really mean but were supposed to keep working for them. One company owner wouldnt let a manger miss a mandatory meeting even though her granddaughter had been raped the night before. She cried all though the meeting and was fired later anyway. Union people are the same just biased jerks.
Sounds like the dude who I worked for, I quit and been out of work for 5 months and still can't find a job. His other employees almost quit but they are forced into working for the dude cause he's their landlord. He's under paying his employees and half the time they don't get paid all while collecting off of the college students who pay up to $5000/mo for an apartment. He don't fix anything either unless it's a college rental
I think waiters being "on call" is theft. If a person can't spend their time freely, they need to be compensated for that. Had another job as a young kid where they made us come in 10 minutes early, but clock in exactly on time. Those minutes add up.
Some years ago I worked for St. Luke's Hospital in Chesterfield Missouri. Often I was asked to work overtime shifts that I was told to not clock in for . I was told I would be given time off later at the rate for the shift I worked off clock. When I left employment at this company I was owed money/time off that I was never able to take due to their constraints. I was "let go" after filing a grievance with their HR department. My filing angered the Director of Plant Operations. I was not the only victim of this theft as others were required to do the same.
Years ago, I very briefly worked for a security firm, and we had to come in on a weekend for 4 hours at a client's location for mandatory first-aid training. It was a large & well-known electronics manufacturing complex that laid off hundreds of employees, and was farming much of their work off to Asian countries at the time. Apparently, they let the medical team go, so we had to somehow be trained in 4 hours of what the pros learned in 4+ years; imagine that! To add insult to injury, I learned that we were not even getting paid for this! What was most disturbing, was when I was the only one in the group that even bothered mentioning, that it wasn't right for us to come in without being compensated, (without mentioning illegal). All I got were funny looks and a few chuckles. One of them laughingly said that he had been training there many times without getting paid. I asked him, "Doesn't that bother you?" He laughed again, and said, "No". By that time, my supervisor made some snide remark in that I wasn't aware of something or somewhat. Well, I certainly became aware that morning, that I was in a room full of stupid lemmings. I resigned that same month. BTW: For years, I have not, nor will I ever purchase any MOTOROLA products again.
Or does STAY strong implies being strong already? Perhaps, but it is not convincing. Strength is relative. you may perceive your self as strong at a particular moment in tie, but it does not mean it is essentially a strong position. STAY implies BE AS IS , and it is not inspiring. also, you give us the facts perfectly , however, you are couscious to enter the battlefield. go for it, I say, never mind you are middle aged 'boring dad of three who makes Santa boots impressions in the ash of the fireplace every Christmas. If anything, you are working to preserve your ability to perform these funny silly rituals , and why not? details are life.
go Malcolm, wish your presence in Aggressive Progressives increases
I have worked in Florida in the fast food industry for 16 years. I worked for Burger King, Wendy's and Dunkin Donuts. In my experience it is common practice in the state of Florida to threaten and intimidate employees into working off the clock. I estimate I have worked 1000s of hours off the clock. I routinely worked 50 hours in the store on the floor and was forced to work an additional 10-20 hours off the clock as a restaurant manager. This included meetings, writing schedules, placing orders, banking, inventory, extra cleaning for inspections and picking up/delivering product to other stores. I lived in Massachusetts for many years before Florida and was rarely asked to work off the clock in Mass. I hated being a manager in Florida so much that I'm now just working as a regular crew member. I estimate I was swindled out of $150,000 in wages.
Thats just sick. I know McDonalds delete work charts in Sweden to avoid paying their workers, thats why i avoided all McDonalds in over 15 years. What you went through is slavery in my eye´s. Makes me appreciate Denmark even more
Don't forget about teachers we are asked to stay late and come in early. We buy needed supply for the classroom out of your pocket and even pay for students lunches and fields. There is no such thing as overtime for a teacher and this country would go crazy if we dare ask for it. Teachers work for free from August to September and still, people are always calling for us to do more. We are asked to meet with parents when it is convenient for the parent no matter if it is not convenient for us and we complain then we are told we are not dedicated enough.
Again another reason to end capitalism... The system of capitalism will always lead to such things happening to increase profits... The state apparatus will constantly have to fight against this natural inclination of capitalism. If you guys want to win the war and not just fight battles it's time for you to become a socialist.
capitalism hasn't pulled more people out of poverty. Nice bit of propaganda you took hook line and sinker
As for appeals to morality... this is exactly what the whole NAP B.S. is... volunteerism crap, why not tell the ancaps stop appealing to emotion.
J Zoidberg why doesn't Venezuela go help them. our not giving to starving people in other countries is a charity issue not a capitalistic one. just giving people food provides no incentives for businesses to grow in those countries to make food. stop with the appeals to emotion, capitalism has pulled more people out of poverty and starvation, than any other economic system.
Oh that number of people capitalisms have murdered? or every person that starves today yet we produce enough food to feed 10 billion people. Yes you are the apologist for this. Go to a starving kid and tell them you could help them but you don't want to. Socialism or Barbarism.
so i guess you don't like public roads, or schools? or police departments, fire departments, OSHA, social security, Medicare, Medicaid, the ACA, the VA, planned parenthood, SNAP, SSI, unemployment insurance, infrastructure, clean water, garbage collection, snow removal, city/state/national parks/zoos/museums/monuments, animal control services, NOAA and the national weather service, NPR, PBS (apparently you hate sesame street), postal service, publicly funded medical research (like the polio vaccine and epipen),the CDC, the FDA, the USDA, farm subsidies, beaches, public transportation (which includes Amtrak), student loan programs and scholarships, etc, etc. *ALL THIS AND MORE* brought to you by taxes. have fun in your cave!
Until the people have had enough of grabbing their own ankles, nothing's going to stop. Waiting for a politician or a president is a waste of time, because ALL OF THEM are corrupt to the core. As a matter of fact, they're part of the problem, because they are part of the system. The sooner everyone realizes that, then that's the first step. The most powerful force that no nation on Earth can stand up to, is the people. If every wage worker in the US just decided to band together and walk off the job for a day...Just imagine what kind of a message that would send?
You blew your point in under a minute. Clarify immigrant, Legal or" IL"legal. Illegal immigrants do not pay taxes. In order to pay taxes you need a social security number which would make you a legal citizen. Is there wage theft in America? Yeah there is. Is it as bad as you say? Probably not even close. Just another Liberal ploy to blow a small problem out of the atmosphere. I would throw some real statistics in here but that is not what the SJW left wants.
Violence is never an answer to any problem or situation. so the brick is a false comparison. $15 billion is a bit light, maybe double that. The problem lies in how the government sets the wage and work/hour laws and whether the employee understands their status. Yes some companies are very deceiving. to the point of lawbreaking and beyond. The fact of the matter is that if the government does not make the laws more straight forward, black and white then the government creates "loopholes" for companies to take advantage of (You can thank lobbyists for that). Many employees do not understand what they signed up for and that is sad at best. Every time you sign your name to paperwork for a company you can rest assured you just signed a contract and at that point it is on you to make sure you understand how, when and what for, you will be paid. A certain amount of personal responsibility belongs to the employee. Is it right that companies do this shit? hell no! They claim employees don't report for fear of retaliation. That just points to the absolute ignorance of the employee. Retaliation = friggin big payday! If more folks spent more time actually learning their rights they might find they don't get taken advantage of. Instead of doing some reading they would rather boo friggin hoo off in loser land and let the corps. win. Think of it this way. The employee is the gun, The laws are the ammo. An employee educated on the employment laws is a loaded gun. No employer is going to mess with that. On the other side, an individual with even partial knowledge of employment law is going to be able to spot a problem employer upfront and (1) Avoid joining said corp. and being taken advantage of. (2) Be able to report said corp. to the local government. You can argue to the moon and back on the education part but your argument will be moot. The laws are freely available to everyone and those that don't understand them need to fix that on their own(personal responsibility), Just for the record, I am not a liberal or a conservative. I am an American. Philosophies are what has divided this nation and I do not subscribe to them as they are horse shit. Be an American, Live your life by your beliefs, Do not force your feelings or beliefs on others, respect the opinions of others, learn through respectful debate. Most of all, Be very suspicious of your government at all times regardless of political stance.
(1) I did not say wage theft was right. No I do not think voter fraud is an issue. (that is a conservative view and I am not conservative)
(2) yes I agree they pay sales tax on money spent in the U.S. but the bulk of their money is sent home to support family out of U.S. Which "is" a drain on our economy. They also consume education, healthcare and other tax payer funded programs which equals or exceeds their input netting zero gain for the most part, and some times negative. (3) Once they're visa runs out they have no right to social security or rights as they are "ILLEGAL" immigrants. The could Apply for extension but most choose not to. Had they "chosen" to extend their Visa or immigrate "legally" they would have rights as they would be citizens of the U.S. It is about policy and the law is the law and should be enforced. Becoming an American citizen is a long and difficult process as it should be regardless of how any of us "FEEL" about it. I welcome all "LEGAL" immigrants with open arms. Do it right or get the eff out. plain and simple.
(1) wage theft, even if infrequent, is wrong, so it does not matter if you think it is a small problem. Do you think voter fraud needs to be dealt with even though it is a minuscule problem? (2) Illegal immigrants do pay taxes at least in the form of sales tax. (3) Immigrants who enter legally but stay illegally can get social security cards and end up paying, but never collecting on social security. Immigrants can arrive as students or on a guest visa program that allows them limited types of working. https://www.ssa.gov/pubs/EN-05-10096.pdf . They are issued a social security number and begin paying taxes into the U.S. social security system. If they overstay their visa, they become illegal, but their social security number and account does not just disappear. They will show the card when pressed and continue paying in. The government could use this to track some immigrants not complying with their visa, but funny enough, it doesn't. They probably like collecting money that they will never have to pay out in the form of actual social security.
Would you say $15 billion/year is a small problem? I'd say that's a realistic number
Conservatives love to shit on working people. Those thieving employers don't get prosecuted as criminals, but if an ex employee tossed a brick thru that employer's window for getting ripped off, that becomes a crime.
they already won if gov goes after them they just leave n no taxes paid switzerland is there for exactly that ireland aswell dont want to pay billions in taxes? come to cork ireland we dont produce nothing but beer but we are rich northern country not like those lazy Southern europeans who dont work
Not sure how wage theft occurs. I worked as a dishwasher for 2 years and was paid for every hour I worked. I had a written contract for pay/hr and I had a timesheet.
Now I work for many many times more /hr and I have a written contract that says there is no time limit for work and x is my yearly salary (which I signed).
Dont see how anyone can steal my wages...
jayaVeeran In my case, I work remotely from home. On the last day of a 2-week pay period the owner and I got into a disagreement. She has refused to pay for all the transcription work I did for those 2 weeks out of spite because I told her to stick her 2-star company up her deceitful ass and she didn't like that. The problem is you can't just commit a crime just because the truth hurts your marshmallow little feelings.
perhaos the worst was my experience with a volunteer organization violating wage laws. Already paying below market rate (leveraging their workforce they called it...capitalizing on the desire of people to help others) they then wouldn't pay for hours actually worked!
As someone who worked in the IT / games industry... sometimes startups need to do crunch times to make up time and save both costs and ensure the survival of the project. But of course this is not what this video is about.
In my country (europe) there are also lots of regulations and ways to get even as an employee, if you want to. So you basically have to treat your employees fairly if you don't want to get sued in "employers court".
You can't even legally have people working for you more than like 45 hours a week regularly, you can't even compensate through overtime (that is only an option for intermittent periods) but you have to give them vacation to make up for "regular" workload.
OSHA is a fake construct that takes the side of employer/violators in all situations. It was made useless for it's intended purpose by Republicans--while the ink dried! I was victimised by OSHA after almost being killed by an employer. The employer knew next day I had filed a complaint-------------------total sham!
to your point what obama did, they even say in the video that obama was going way more aggressive against wage theft then others. and they explain that the new guy is the CEO of a big corporation who does wage theft, you can blame trump for picking someone like him, and it gives you a hint where they want to go. so what about your points?
No, It's because they immediately use this as a platform to bash President Trump, even though their 'prediction' is all just conjecture and assuming, based solely on their extreme bias against anything conservative. So why wasn't this an issue during the previous presidents 8 year tenure? What did Obama do to help this issue?
My mother has worked at a Wallmart for 15 years and she gets 12.25$ which 50 cents more than when she started. Across the road there's a Costco, where cashiers have their pay increased by their experience. Some of them earn as much as 25$ an hour.
Comparatively nothing. This isn't an epidemic. Considering we the US have the highest productivity of any and every modern nation I'm curious where the hell you got this.
I would LOVE to see citation or evidence showing our "lazy" workers as EVERY SINGLE STUDY I've seen shows the opposite...including those from massively biased conservative think tank organizations. If anything the CONSERVATIVES use our productivity as a SELLING point.
Which means you basically suck even as a Tea-Party conservative.
Congratulations sir-you are an idiot.
+Nizzle FoShizzle No, you only put "owner" in quotation marks. And to be frank, I didn't know what the hell that was supposed to mean, so I just ignored it. You also said, "Profits ARE wages." If that's not supposed to indicate equivalency, then I don't know what does.
I used to work at a place called Agni Indian Kitchen & bar in Greensboro, North Carolina (*Ahum) and I got paid like shit to take care of an entire kitchen. I got paid $360 for working 60 hours. My brother was a server for the same wage, and wasn't allowed to keep tips. Now that I think back on it I should have told that motherfucker off.
Long-term profit is not normal in economic theory. If a company's revenue vastly exceeds cost for long periods of time, it's because thousands of people are working for basically nothing. Apple is the biggest culprit. The reason it is the most profitable country in the world is because workers in China receive a fraction of what they should; capital receives the rest.
We need more robust law in place in America, but we also need to move toward a reasonableglobal minimum wage.
Disney wasn't on the list of companies who commit wage theft. I know the complete list wasn't spoken, but childhood dreams are on the backs of cheap labor that's further abused besides just being underpaid.
It's very telling that instead of an actual rebuttal or counter argument, all you have is ad hominem. You don't garner respect or credibility that way, you only come off looking like a stupid, immature child.
When I worked for Taco Bell I actually turned down a promotion to shift manager, since I refused to work twice as hard for over 80hrs a week and only getting paid for 40 hours at no pay increase. And that was in 2010, and is still an issue at Taco Bell even now. Inbred buffoons who never passed middle-school love to say that people who work low wage jobs are at fault for being poor, yet when workers don't get paid for over half the work they do isn't it the corporations fault instead? Is it too much to ask that people pull their heads out of the sand long enough to see that their getting fucked in the ass?
Wackenhut did it for many years by constantly shorting security guard payroll checks. They always made the "clerical or accounting error" excuse whenever someone complained and filled out a payroll discrepancy form. If they were truly indeed errors, then why was it every time, that employees resulted in being mistakenly underpaid, instead of overpaid?
I want American's at home and instead of war driving the economy, manufacturing should. It's time for America to compete with the world again, instead of these globalist pushing for jobs to be put in China so they can max profits while defeating the middle class.
If we overhaul NATO and NAFTA and the UN, America will prosper. Defeat globalism and save the middle class, middle America and we can defeat the MSM.
+Matt Shelton well this was because of people like Bernie sanders who attracted many to his movement . However who in the Democrats now can push for this in 2018 or 2020 . Because besides Warren and Bernie I don't see strong leftists
+jonbryanta But a lot on the right have moved to more extreme positions too . If Democrats move more left and Republicans move more right that means there is more polarization which means that the political system would become more dysfunctional than it already is . This of course as long as there are two parties
Wait, there are two replies, yet only one comment shown, except now I made a second comment which fixes the bug except it might show three and my soul is in a bottomless pit of hopelessness, doom, and confusion.
Warcorpse666 Citizen or non citizen wage theft is theft. Rightful compensation for your work don't disappear based on failure of any test of citizenship. You're arguing for basically indentured servitude. No one has the right to exploit others' labor.
It happens to citizens too. I worked for Disney for six weeks in the late 80s. For a variety of reasons, they restaurant I worked in cheated the closing staff out of half an hour to an hours pay every day for the six weeks I worked there. That year Michael Eisner was paid 42 million in salary and stock options and Dick Nunis was paid 72 million in salary and stock options. Disney had 30,000 employees at the time, making minimum wage mostly (around $6 an hour). If they all lost half an hour a day, 5 days a week, 52 weeks a year it would have been 3*5*52*30000=$23,400,000 in wage theft.
It's kind of a hold over from the class system. Workers are seen as disposable. You don't like working off the clock go find another job. Like before they sold the place I was working they did some cosmetic work and loaded up the inventory with stuff we usually didn't sell well. I mentioned that they might be selling the place to a couple people and next thing you know the head office sends word out that they weren't selling and people shouldn't believe rumors. In less then 6 months they sold all the locations. So lying cheating and stealing is part of the corporate toolbox to get the highest profits.
Yes stuff like that totally happens. You think corporations become rich by being nice guys? You ate in for a eorld of hurt when you finally get a job and join the rest of the working world. A little tip that will save you a lot of pain. Companies don't really give a shit about you and will lie and steal from you if they can. Take this from someone who worked 40+ years in several different jobs. The only thing companies care about is profit.
Off the clock as in you punch out and then work another hour or so. This was not the company I originally worked for the place I worked was bought out and the new company had different rules. There is another reason not to work off the clock because if you get hurt the company isn't liable for workman's Comp and you aren't covered by they insurence.
"People of color" makes me cringe Everytime I hear it. How about non European.
Our ancestors did evolve somewhere, places where our pigmentation is constant. If you need to address skin color, same something less superficial and ignorant.
+Knuxiefan I am specifically speaking about the locations of the planet our ancestors spent thousands of years evolving and changing. Whether it be close to or distant to the equator. Seeing how the sun's rays in relation to how much of it in particular regions of the world made contact with the various organisms determined our ancient and innate sun screen.
Shocking... I know.
Some libertarian ideas are great, many agree with the progressive ideas. Everything goes to shit when someone wants to use our money to benefit one another. Then its all an argument about how the government destroyed the free market, when there was no free market to begin with ever.
Libetarians have literally written volumes on how regulations would work in the absence of the State (and made YT vides). It's not that we aren't educating people, it;'s that the vast majority of non-libertairans don't want to put in the work to actually consider alternative points of view.
But das just me tho.
Office Max did it too. Their timecard system was simple to control on a local level and Assistant managers could manipulate time schedules and force you to lose up to 30 minutes a day. Doing the math that is roughly $5 an adjustment. Do that three times per person in a week and that's $15. With 20 people on the payroll, that's $300 in a weeks time, or $15,600 a year. I believe just before the take over they had 278 stores. I'll let you do that little bit of math yourself.
+Alex xeon neither was I when I experienced this very same thing. I was a nurse for a home health agency and had to hire an attorney to get wages owed to me that they tried to trick me out of. I won and the company got in deep shit for Federal wage law violations.
A few ways that employers now use to avoid these pesky problems are;
1. call employees "contract workers", and put most of the, fairly complicated, tax burdens, overhead, and regulations on their heads.
2. send the jobs out of the country, if possible, to low wage, heavily polluting, lower regulation countries.
3. "encourage" your elected officials to pass laws, and eliminate oversight and regulation, in your favor in your favor; and to appoint judges that are "business friendly".
