I was writing this post as I was watching and you said it makes you a zombie, I take a couple or three for my nerve pain and five hours later it hits me and makes me a zombie and bumping into stuff but helps me with leg pain from my back problems and let's me sleep. Sometimes I will take one during the day. I actually have been taking the Gab with L Theanine I feel like a champ.
If it works for you then that's great. I felt pretty good in the beginning too but then the longer I was on it, the more I realized I was a zombie and it was scary the side effects. Now I'm off the drug but my anxiety is back as bad as ever and I just have to deal with it, I still take L theanine, maybe I should try higher dose
iloveTool... Yeah for anxiety it just would make you turn in to the walking dead. I take because I have chronic back leg pain due to bad disc I had lumbar fusion and the next disc above the nerve roots are close up disc is wasted. I take around 3 p.m. and it hits me around 7 p. m. Knocks me out I sleep good no leg pain.
It has "off label" use for anxiety. I asked the dr. for Gabapentin specifically because my friend took it and they just prescribed it to me, kinda sketchy lol I've been off Gabapentin for over a year now though and yes I was a zombie on it, I don't recommend it
L-theanine is even a recommended alternative for overactive pet owners instead of giving some kind of calming Pharmaceutical drug. It works I use it with my lab Border Collie she's 4 years old and Super Active it helps calm her down on our jogging/walks. It calms without sedation. It's the active amino acid in green tea used for meditation. It really works. My dose is 200 to 400 mg. My lab dose is 100 to 200 mg she's 50 lb.
I've been on Gabapentin about 2 years now, and the Dr. just increased it to 300mg three times a day. But I don't take it consistantly every day. I feel real depressed and over the top with anxiety the following day. I'm afraid to take it every day because of that. Doesn't the tolerance of it increase also if you take it every day? I'd think it won't make you feel "good" if you take it every day. Damn weight gain problem too. If i feel that bad next day, what would it be like if i take it every day for months or years!!
Thanks for your reply. I've tried every medication this and many of those..several times and never was able to tolerate side effects (psychiatry) over 43 years. Nothing worked. The Gabapentin is the only thing that helps somewhat. But just like you say, it has it's downfalls. I'm prescribed to take 300mg there times a day, but i don't. I tend to take large amounts because I just plain feel good. But the following day, i feel BAD, real bad. Been doing it this way past couple years, and only recently did he increase it. But then, if i take it as prescribed, is that really any better? Not really. So, i go up and down. I look terrible being down from it and am paranoid to leave my house because of that. I tend to look high very easily when drowsy. I can't be seen like that. But i can't do without either. Withdrawals.....scarey. I understand what you mean.
Patrick you are correct in all your questions. I tell you from experience. I personally don't recommend Gabapentin, I was on it for a year and a half for anxiety and you absolutely build a tolerance for it. My doctor told me to go cold turkey off it and I had massive withdrawals over a week and had to miss work, I thought I was going to die. Yep weight gain and I had the feeling of being in a fog/haze and super tired all day. Who wants to ease anxiety at that price? I'm not telling your what you should do but I think Gabapentin is a scary drug to be on long term and I've read that a lot too
Hey, how are you? I take a few things. I'm glad you found this stuff. I have the 400mg caps and I have 2 in the morning and 2 at night. Apparently they increase seratonin in the brain and reduce cortisol. Equally they premote alpha waves so you get deeper sleep? I tried L-tyrosine too but it started my anxiety back up, not good : /, so I stopped that. I also take vitamin D and Magnesium citrate, also relaxing suppliments. I've just ordered some
5-htp and that is meant to increase seratonin also. I'll let you know how that goes if you like.
I'm so happy for you cos this stuff really works.
Have you stopped taking any other medication now?
Take care ok
ive also taken it for a year plus for anxiety. Ive used drugs and alcohol to cope with my anxiety. I go into a convulsive state when it is at its worse and now i dont even have to take it every day . shits crazy but it has worked for me
iloveTool my dosages can be 100 to 200 mgs of l theanine..I'm just starting to add caffeine with it. So, I'm going to test half and half. 100 mg a piece first. Then kind of go up with the l theanine, once i find a spot, where it isn't makiing me nap😊
We'll see! Thank you for commenting back
iloveTool holy smokes I was only curious about the l-theanine was working I only know you from this theanine video but I just seen another video of yours and it almost brought you to tears , my heart goes out to you and I would like to ask if it is okay if I pray for you?
Where are you from?
I would have to totally agree with J Beckmann.....too cute indeed. Its like 1:30 in the morning and I'm glad I stumbled on this video. I found myself smiling with your smiles and theres just something about this video I love. Definitely gonna suscribe. Keep it up. Plus your a tool fan? Favorite song 46 and 2. Do you have one?
No wonder gabapentin isn't working for you. 500mg is a REALLY low dose for anxiety. I have panic disorder and at 1200mg it completely obliterates my panic attacks, makes me feel social, and gives me a sense of well being and happiness. It only works when I take 300 mg every 30 minutes instead of the entire dose at once because the more gabapentin you take at once, the less is absorbed. I'm shocked your doctor has you on such a low dose though because that little amount doesn't do much.
+iloveTool Oh how in the world did I forgot about the drowsiness? Yeah I can see why that would make you not want to take it anymore. I have to drink coffee everyday just to keep from falling asleep but I'm scared of going back to the panic attacks and agoraphobia. Scared of being scared lol. Anyway I hope that the l-theanine continues to work for you. Relaxation is something other people take for granted.
Actually I got off Gabapentin a while ago. I was up to 700 mg and I did notice SOME relief with anxiety. I am surprised you can function and not dozing off all day at that high a dosage! That's why I had to get off it, it made me extremely tired all the time. But maybe you are lucky and don't have much for side effects.
That was another side effect for me with Gabapentin was short term memory loss, that cleared up now that I'm off it. I'm not taking anything now :( My anxiety is a struggle on a daily basis. Yea you don't want to be on too many drugs, stick to one or the other probably
That's what I was taking. I am off Gabapentin now because of the side effects. It made me soooooo tired all day every day. Felt like a zombie walking around. But everyone is different, it might work for you.
im definitely going to try the l-theanine I really hope I get the same effects you got! I have social anxiety and it definitly takes a toll on me but the gabapentin helps so much with my mood but there are some side effects I dont like. hey I see the nintendo consoles in the background are you into retro games?
I thought gabapentin would help my social anxiety but it didn't. So no, I have never found something that actually works (talking supplements). Hopefully someday I'll be free from it. If you find the cure let me know haha
iloveTool WoW that was quick lol glad you replied I just made a comment on another video lol. have you taken anything that helped for social anxiety? I am a huge retro nerd I am currently collecting for the gameboy advance because im always on the go traveling a lot
I have social anxiety too actually. Neither l-theanine or gabapentin helped that for me though :( I actually got off gabapentin for the same reasons - bad side effects. Yea I have a SNES, N64, Wii. My first system I ever played was the original nintendo so that just shows how old I am right there lol
hi.. i have anxiety as well .. im gonna try this l theamine too... i would just like to ask you; do you take the two capsules at one time or do you take then serperately... im just curous because the dose you are taking is having an effect on you and id like to use it as a reference for myself to consider.... thanks ... hope to hear from you..
I take them separately, one in the morning before work and one at night after work. I would not advise taking them both at once lol it's already double strength, you definitely feel it just taking the one
I've been on gabapentin a year and just started l-theanine. Like you said, gabapentin is good at boosting mood but it does nothing for anxiety in my experience.
I wonder if the two synergize and make the effect stronger. There isn't much on the internet about both being used together.
Ive been on gabapentin for about the same amount of time as you.. I take 300mgs three times a day.. and ive never had a drug create such a false sense of wellness.. I consider it a miracle drug as far as depression goes... but it hasn't helped my panic attacks whatsoever. ill have to try the l-theanine stuff!
iloveTool Have you tried xanax, klonopin, or ativan? They will stop panic attacks dead in its tracks. And its not hard to taper i been on them 15 years and started with 1mg 4 times a day and then i did the 2mg of xanax for 2 times a day, back to 1 mg 4 times a day or even as needed and sometime broke em in half, now on .5mg 4 times a day or as needed i even break em in half unless its a real bad attack i take 2, they will relax you.
Right? That's my experience with it also, like I said in the video - it helps with depression more than anxiety. I can be depressed and after gabapentin kicks in "everything is going to be alright" get a glowing feeling and everything is funny and hope in life is restored and just in an all around happy mood. I only take the 100mg pills though 500mg a day and 2 l-theanines. I imagine youre even happier than me at 900mg a day! haha idk that l-theanine is going to help panic attacks, I have my doubts but I'd be interested to see if it does. Still in search of something to help me with anxiety
L-theanine is an amino acid. A lot of amino acids can be really helpful in combating anxiety and depression. If i'm having anxiety/depression i will take a lot of l-theanine.. Also GABA (Gamma-amino-butyric-acid) is great for anxiety. And 5-HTP works wonders for my depression/anxiety. I mix and match these supplements all the time and they really help me. All these amino acids are quite safe to take together, i'd give those a try aswell.I believe the now brand sells them. Also magnesium is really great for stress/anxiety. The magnesium calm powder is great, you can mix it in water and drink it down, which is also fine to take with all the supplements listed above. Hope this helps, happy to see more people giving alternative natural medicine a try <3
I'm thinking about buying some GABA and 5-HTP but I already struggle with drowsiness/lack of energy. Even if I'm physically moving I get periods throughout the day of feeling pretty lifeless. I know for a fact it's the Gabapentin and L-Theanine. Do you get these side effects and do you know how to stop the lack of energy/tiredness?
+iloveTool Typically i'll do between 200-400mg of L-theanine, 100-200mg of 5-HTP, 2,000mg of GABA.This mixture and dosage could potentially make you drowsy though. I usually take that at night but do during the day if im really anxious. If you find that it makes you drowsy during the day and you don't like being tired perhaps try smaller doses and larger ones at night. Also caffeine can have a somewhat synergistic effect with L-theanine. So if you like caffeinated tea, or coffee have some L-theanine first and then drink something with caffeine if you need to be more alert and awake during the day. its calming, focused, yet stimulating. As soon as i woke up today i had 200mg of L-theanine and then a cup of coffee, witch i'm becoming very fond of. :)
