I just recently had a car overheat and throw a code. thing is, there was no coolant getting into the oil, but a rough idle and no white smoke. I have no idea what it could be other than the thermostat

how do you test a electric fan to make sure it's putting out like it's supposed to just cuz it's turning doesn't mean it's sucking the air like it's supposed to

My temp gauge is going screwy. I changed 2 different sensors and it is still going up and down. Now all the gauges in the dash are acting funny. Like the speedometer looks like its having a seizure. My battery gauge reads low even though the battery is good and the alternator is brand new. Oil gauge is reading slightly higher that normal and fuel gauge is all over the place too. Wtf?

In my day the fan was direct drive from the motor, now they have added a clutch, try a rolled news paper or cardboard touch the fan and see if fan stops if so, very well could be bad fan clutch,as mine did

What about in an enclosed system. How do you check the radiator?
MrPhantomFury (12 дней назад)
Well, shouldn't it be an* overheating car engine instead of " a overheating... " !? ._.
Sergio S. Huerta (12 дней назад)
My old 1997 Mustang 3.8L was running hot. The electric radiator fan would spin, but it was spinning kind of slow. I replaced the old radiator fan with a new one and the overheating stopped. Also, maybe there can be leaks from not just the radiator but also the heater core.
Darrin Raybourn (12 дней назад)
Squeeze top radiator hose before opening cap when "cool." If there is pressure in hose, let it cool some more.
Arther Casillas (12 дней назад)
Thanks for the knowledge. I defiantly will do a combustion leak test on my 2010 transit connect.

How would you diagnose a bad coolant pump?
Bryan McLaughlin (13 дней назад)
Very informative. Thank you.
STEPHEN MARTINI (13 дней назад)
I have thought of my water pump as sitting in traffic the needle pegs but when this happens I run my heater control on high in conjunction with my windshield defroster with the windows open to bleed heat off the engine until the needle drops back down. I can run 40-55 mph the car runs just fine. As soon as I stop I have to turn the heater, again. But, I never have to top off my rad and the cap is fine.
Marian Czopka (13 дней назад)
Two more things, the radiator fan thermal switch and the sludge in the cooling system ;)
Old Fords Don't die (13 дней назад)
A fan not kicking in may also be the temperature switch that controls it, i had that in my Ford Escort a couple months ago.
Mark Wright (13 дней назад)
Lets be honest, replacing the head gasket on a 90's car like that celica really isn't the most difficult of jobs. Could do it in a couple hours. I wouldn't want to do it on a more modern car though. Hell no. Plastic covers, delicate sensors. Little nibbly parts in the engine that i'm sure to lose.
Julio Vazquez (13 дней назад)
My car over heats slightly when I turn the a/c on and the car starts to to like what to turn off like it's choking..but once I turn off the a/c It stops choking and the temp Gage starts to go down to a cool level
Julio Vazquez (13 дней назад)
But it won't over heat

My 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee overheats when I drive it and when I stop. Like at a traffic light or something. Plus there’s some kind of leakage through my passenger seat floor.

03 mazda tribute- truck over heats and makes the ac not work. Once I get moving the ac kicks on ice cold again and the temp gauge drops. It sounds like a fan issue. Just came by to see Scotty to get some ideas.

Heavenly Air (24 дня назад)
i always put a lil bit lower opening degreed thermostat for instance in my c5 z06 carbon widebody corvette i run a 168 degree it now has 190k miles. for instance in my dodge ram 3500 dually i run a 186 degree tstat. incase ure wondering most new engines can handle lower temps just find but older engines before obd1 dont like em. so be careful not to run ure turbo diesel to cool mine runs at 190 or 200 while towing with ac on its has 1k torque with 250k miles on it. honestly its my first mod on all vehicles.

I'm still trying to find a solution to my problem. Several months ago, my car radiator had leaked, and overheated the engine. Radiator was replaced and a top overhaul done. Radiator tested and pressure good. Temperature gauge good. Radiator cap good. Radiator fan working (but haven't tested if motor is spinning/blowing at optimal level). Relays & fuses good. The car still gradually overheats. To overcome overheating, a/c has to be kept blowing and this keeps the temperature down like a normal running car. Fortunately I live in the tropics but I still like to get the car running good without the a/c switched on all the time. A mechanic suggests the water pump is not giving enough pressure. Could that be the problem or something else? Thanks

Thank you Scotty for all your help, I needed this help back in 2004 when I had a cavalier overheating and replaced everything and didn't know about a test kit that could tell if the headgasket was blown. We do appreciate your videos. If you could do a video on how to flush a CVT transmission it would be wonderful.

I have a 2004 CRV and it overheats when stopped for a bit in traffic but once I start moving it cools back down. This only seems to happen when it's hot out. The air blows cold from the AC. It also cools down if I crank the heat up when it starts to overheat. Any help would be appreciated

in most cases its a tiny hole in hoses that causes a small leak , so pressure test is the best test

On my car, the oil cooler sealer is to be replaced, the oil gets into the coolant. I can find a lot of grease when opening the coolant cap. The temperature is high. Now I changed the sealer, and changed the coolant liquid, hope it could be good.

I figured it out scotty, on my 1999 i30 I didn't have a radiator pump, so instead i made sure the radiator was full of fluid and then gave it a little gas, some coolant spraying up showed me right where the leak was! It was the radiator hose!

Scotty Kilmer I just replaced the crank sensor, fuel filter, ignition coil pack, mass air flow sensor and I was wondering if that could’ve been the reason why it would die while driving. If this doesn’t fix it what could be the problem.
