The new Iloilo City Philippines "Freedom Grandstand" construction is underway. The informal settlers have 60 days to move and the demolition of the illegal buildings has begun. The informal settlers will be moving to Barangay Lanit in Jaro, Iloilo City. Iloilo City's original Freedom Grandstand has a capacity of 2,000 people and with the new Freedom Grandstand facing the port, it can hold up to 4,000 people plus all of the seating built in around the bulkhead. The cost for this new construction project is 100 million pesos. Completion is expected in 2019.
Iloilo Is a lovely City with much to offer. I visit there from Europe at least twice a year. It's very convenient to be able to pop over to Guimaras too. Thanks for the update. Might bump into you sometime. Well done to all involved in this and other City developments
Panay railroad was also used for transportation. It helped with traffic one time. Marcos and Benedicto were kicked out of the country 1986... I don't what happened next. It was still running when I left for Chicago 1989.
I'm so impressed that an American can be so into iloilo' development. Hope more expats live in Iloilo. As a founding member of our Heritage council, we are sprucing up the city to be a major heritage destination and hopefully one of the most livable.God bless you bro.
Nice video sir. Nice to see more improvements in the city. More businesses mean more jobs. As long as the govt provide the illegal settlers a better and safer place to live and some assistance to start a new life then its a win-win.
Good job Sir! I am an Ilonggo and Proud to be...I would like to invite you sir for a dinner in our house near the ceres terminal in grand estate subdivision...just hit me up in my email....Cya around the City Sir
Good Video Mike. As a professional civil engineer, I am always interested in the ways Cities are developing improvements. Iloilo, Iloilo and Dumaguete are both strong candidate cites for my own retirement in about 8 years from now. I would love to see a video piece on Philippine Central University where you are at if you have the time. Other than that, my family and I are planning a 4 week trip at Christmas time 2018 that includes a stop in Iloilo. We would love to visit with you when we are there. TC
Great to know of the Grandstand project coming up - that will be a great focal point for the community and tremendous investment for the future of the social fabric of the city. Good to see that the pump is still going ok and lots of kids benefiting from flowing water!!
Hi Mike -
Don't know if it's true for sure, but I have read the main Fire Dept. offices will be transferred to Molo. That seems a bit far from City Proper, eh? Don't know about the fire engines themselves. 100,000,000 Pesos = $1.96 Million (1 USD = 51 PHP today). Glad to see you're being politically correct these days! Keep them coming!
Molo's not that far with no traffic, but there always seems to be traffic on that route. The old buildings down town seem to have the most instances of fire. There are enough problems with the availability of water or trucks not starting.
Hi Mike, I've been a subscriber of yours for a while now and enjoy your channel. My wife and I have been married 16 years, and she was born and raised in Iloilo and has relatives all over Panay from Roxas to Guimaras. Like you I have been all over Panay in my trips there over the years. We have a lot in Santa Barbara and hope to retire there in about 4 to 5 years. Like you we are excited at the progress that's been made in Iloilo. We will come visit in 2018 and would like to meet up with you. We live in DFW by the way, so howdy from a fellow Texan. I hope that you get your health issues worked out. Take care and hope to meet you sometime soon.
