Jimmy Dore, Steve Oh, Malcolm Fleschner, and Nomiki Konst on this week’s Aggressive Progressives. Jimmy skypes with Jordan Chariton to discuss the DNC lawsuit and updates on the Flint water crisis. The panel discusses Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s comments about Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton’s “resistance,” and Barack Obama’s pricey speech.
Watching this makes me wonder how many in years in prison investors should take. You can almost picture a dream-vision of the hosts, of Bernie winning, and days later, Wallstreet on siege, with dozens and dozens of people on fancy suits being arrested and sent to prison, in tears. Perhaps newly formed labor camps. And the people on the streets gloriously destroying the bull statue, in a weirdly reminiscent way of the destruction of statues of the soviet leaders.
I don't think they were mocking Berne so much as setting him up to clarify that of course he would not. Asking him the question that many listeners would be dumb enough not to already know. Also Charlie Rose's follow up was an attempt of light humor -- a joke! This was nothing to get so riled up about. Sht. Berne understood the situation and handled it perfectly. Calm down.
Damn Jimmy!!! That was some fine bashing!! I've also seen people commenting on Bernie owning 3 houses & saying he has to be corrupt. That's just silly!!! I've owned 2 houses at once & I've never made over $130,000 a year. It's how you save & invest that makes the difference in what you can afford.
Always love a rant and getting money out of politics is the number one priority. Still- I have two feelings on this. First- what is in those speeches that the Wall Street pays so much for? Isn't that what matters? Is there no way to get them to go public if there is any actual information there for the Wall Street from a former head of state of how to influence better? Or are they just bullshit speeches in which case ehmmm? Let them waste their money. Obama might do better things with that money. This seems the key no? Why blame the politician, use the outrage and demand to know?! The secrecy is what the outrage should be for.
Second, I'm sorry but now, as a private citizen Obama should not deal with this crap anymore. He has given his service as he was able as a person, he has his grey hair, he wasn't an abomination like someone at present. Enough of judging, people make money if they want to, he is not in office so he doesn't have to serve you anymore. And yes he does seem to be a charitable person, not corrupted at all to the full, let him be his best self out of the machine now. Enough of Obama hate. Rant for the ones who are in office and do have that obligation!
So what you are saying is that someone in Wall Street writes the speeches that those politicians deliver? If that's true then of course I agree with you! I did say that what is most important is the content of those speeches, which I don't know anything about and hence was giving Obama etc the benefit of a doubt. If he is making his own speeches and selling himself, then it's a different story. We all sell ourselves at the end of the day.
The thing that people don't like about the Obama speech is the fact that *it's corruption* no matter how you look at it. You get paid to deliver a message (that you probably don't believe in) that someone *pays* you to deliver and people watch it because you're a former president. I am going, to be honest: "people make money if they want to" is one of the worst things I have heard considering the background of this story. Yes, they have the right to make money that way, but is it right? You're basically selling yourself for the 1% of rich Americans!
darling you need to untie the aluminum foil you have wrapped around your head. He owns a house in the city of burlington, a summer place on North Hero island - I've seen pics of both NO dirt floors in either, and a townhouse in DC. As to his tax rate -- that's because of all the massive tax cuts Trumps teabaggers gave themselves. Oh wait, because he isn't MAGA he doesn't get to use the tax laws as written by Congress? Your understanding of the way Washington works is completely off the mark.
Mansion? Really? WHERE? He has two homes in Vermont, the 2nd one only purchased because of an inheritance from his wife's family. He owns a Townhome in DC. Post the addy of the *mansion* otherwise this is a Faux news BS item pushed by hillbots.
i'ma stay civil, in the face of your idiocy.....in a matter of months during the dem primary......he went from net worth of 300K...to net worth of over 2.5 million right after he handed Hillary the nomination....
and.....i'll refrain from mentioning ...his wife is now under federal investigation for BANK FRAUD !
Cognitive dissidence..I think that is what is going on with people..I have read about it but never seen it in action until recently.
People who believe themselves to be morally supier are having problems rationalizing unethical behavior they got away with for years...
My niece is graduating from university with a meters in journalism-she loves Bernie Sanders, but who's kidding who?
That's why I love the reactionary/fascista Republicans talk about thje left-wing media-yes, they are mostly lefties but, they su k cok to make ends meet. Mika Brezinski is 5t0-but what a sweet mouth and, as the pom comedian said: 'SHE'S A STROKER"
Bernie is a joke, You are talking up a man that didnt even get his first job till he was 40 , sold out and supported Hillary even though she stood for everything he was supposedly against, ya real integrity and wanted even bigger government, I dont know who the bigger joke is Bernie or TYT' s
I genuinely don't believe bad mouthing President Obama is how you are going to unite people. If you don't care and just want to spew your side that's fine, but don't act like you are trying to stand up for Senator Sanders, because you're not, Senator Sanders wants to unite the Democratic Party. He wants to unite the country. If you care, maybe don't bad mouth presidents.
Laterlater I feel it only serves to divide us more. Someone with a platform should of course be honest, but by the time it goes past basic criticism, it becomes bias to the ears of the audience. I just don't see the value. That's my opinion. You are entitled to yours. I'm entitled to mine, for now.
"If you care, maybe don't bad mouth presidents."
Generally speaking, persons in positions of power (including former) who have a large share in the formation of policies that directly effect you are precisely the sort of people who should be most liable to "bad mouthing" or criticism.
"Senator Sanders wants to unite the Democratic Party"
Turns out the, the DNC and nearly every senior Democratic Senator, are not that into Medicare-for-all, a living wage, etc. In other words, into Bernie - who is nothing else if not these policies. They are not that interested in uniting behind Bernie's platform - they just want you to vote for them regardless if their policies are to your advantage or not.
They take you for granted -- and after all, why wouldn't they? You won't "bad mouth" or become critical of them either way - right?
Gail is just an Oprah puppet. She's not a real journalist. Shame on the media for continuing their attacks on integrity and continuing to spew this crap. Yes Gail, Bernie has more integrity than you and your billionaire friends will ever have in their little finger.
I think there's a fairly big difference between being heavily paid as a former president to speak versus a potential *future* president. Maybe it's a payment for all the "too big to fail" stuff... but either way, if we hadn't bounced back as well as we did (so well that Trump can't help but gloat himself about it), maybe it'd be more questionable.
I dont agree. Why should Obama be the only one not to get paid? Why exactly?
All Presidents, all public officials go on a lecture tour. They all do but all of a sudden the Black guy has to self-sacrifice?! Why?!
No I dont accept that.
David Barnwell I agree with you. After all he's been through serving our country with the people who belittled him still in office showing their asses? Take all their money! I love Bernie for how he is (Wish Dems would've supported him in the pres race😒) but he's a special breed. Obama paid his dues to this country, let him make his money
I've always hated Charlie Rose. He's always been a sickening panderer. Anytime he ever had anyone cool on his show, he would ask them trick questions to try and make them look bad. And he'd positively fawn over all the elitists and kleptocrats.
It's not the money, it's where it comes from: the corp that led the way to the raping of the American economy (which is still happening). So go ahead, Mr. President, take the money that shut the lights out of the US while you were president. Don't be a sucker like Bernie, who still prefers his self respect.Do you have any idea how much that money is going to cost you, in terms of your reputation? Get it somewhere else.
Well, because it was a clip I didn't see it in context, but King simply asked a question, to which Bernie had the opportunity to make his point by saying "No." Rose tried to ask a follow-up question, to which Bernie had the opportunity to make his point further. While it is characterized here as "mocking," it all seemed pretty softball to me.
3:00 great job Bernie and Nomiki. the whole current modern practice of banking (in america, wells fargo etc) is wrong. with compound interests lending, mortgage, hedge funds etc. the goal of bankers to #1 make profit and not #1 assist people is screwy. thank you Nomiki for pointing out Bernie's integrity that he has displayed all his life. hanging out with bankers would go against Bernie's platform. Go Bernie!
@Otium Borealis What's unethical? What did he do that was unethical?
He has to ask your permission about how he earns his money now?
Hey why dont you create a lst for him of the things he can do..the ways in which he can earn..seeing as you're the master of his life.
Are you guys serious? Is that the problem Democrats have right now? Can you compare Obama conduct with the person in WH right now.
You waste your time severing your spleen over this trivial BS...when this country is currently being run aground with Trump in the WH.
You contributed in voting Trump in the WH when you spent all your time on the same BS invalidating your candidates!!!
Corporate media is largely Republican; CNN is a Republican entity.
It's stars like Anderson Cooper are Republicans.
Those people were NEVER in the tank for HRC.
Even on networks like MSNBC racists like Chris Matthews were all in favour of a Trump win. Matthews was OVERJOYED when Trump won and I think nobody should let him forget the glee he was displaying.
There really isn't such a thing as liberal media.
@B4TT3RY rubbish. White racism is what created Trump.
White working class men and women voted for Trump. Educated White men and women voted for Trump. There is a Black/Latino working class yknow. They mostly, especially in the case of the majority of Blacks, working class and educated, did not vote for Trump.
White racism and the electoral college elected Trump and Bernie Sanders would never have stopped either of them.
tomite2001 Hillary's media were hugely influential in nominating Trump. That's why even the democrat donor corporate media whores ran 24/7 Trump coverage, and the ass wipes completely ignored or lied about Bernie!!!
It was 40" LCD Samsung. Nothing fancy but it was ok. Bought it 3 years ago but for the past more than a year i have not switch it on even once.
So basically it was just standing and gathering dust.
Sold it for 1499 PLN (~ 390 USD)
*Zarion "You make a comment about my unoriginal retort, yet you make probably the most unoriginal and most used response on the internet today. Interesting."
That's right, I'm sinking to your low levels of intellect and originality. It's the only way with people like you. Now you know how I felt about your cute little comeback the first time around. I'm not rich but I do okay, I earn a living unlike some people who bitch, leech and have a sense of self-entitlement (aka The Left).
+Tom * There is just so much projection in your response. Where do I begin? Saying that I'm triggered by your posts, when in actuality there was no angry words in any response. The harshest word I used is twit. Hardly any indication of any kind of rage. I've made no comment about the rich, but you seem to want to bring them up. Any hidden resentment towards them? You make a comment about my unoriginal retort, yet you make probably the most unoriginal and most used response on the internet today. Interesting.
That's why Youtube created the edit feature, twat. You're not a Liberal yet get triggered with anti-Bernie posts. Nice logic there. Day off 7 days a week? How original! If I didn't see that coming. Your kind are always raving and ranting about the rich yet do nothing about it. Just whine while we dine. Get out of your mommy's basement, loser....
This scummer was unemployed for decades while his wife worked, and lived in a house with a dirt floor. Then he gets elected to political positions by the assholes of his state and become a millionaire with multiple homes. Where do they get these pieces of shlt from?
Differing opinions on that one but hay, we see what unfolds and perhaps use the language you have chosen for Bernie on Trump, Obama and a multitude of Congressmen and women who represent the Lobbyist's and their Jobs as opposed to the people.
Mr Kurt, agreed, there ARE plenty of frauds out there. However, if you were an immigrant and came from a Socialist country you have a better bullshit detector. Bernie is high on mine and so is to millions of people.
Hay, and most Aussies think Trump means well but has surrounded himself with big money and has and will do their bidding. It has already started, that's not to say that democrats are the solution because they have and do the same. The polarization is nice distraction to the average American person and plays into corporate interest. Thinking just because somebody runs a big business that would automatically make him the most responsible choice as president during economic hardship is not necessarily so.

Should have started with civil rights activist but whatever... I was interested by variety of odd jobs. Teacher, psychiatric aide, writer, carpenter, film-maker. Wow, thanks- you raised my respect for Sanders, I didn't think it could get higher to be honest. What a multi-talented rounded real universal person, wow I'm so impressed with him! Grateful for you pointing that out!
I'm so tired of rich Democrats setting rules that they want everyone but themselves to abide by. This POS only paid 13.5% taxes while demanding 90% taxes for everyone else. He owns 3 houses and turns around demanding to know how much rich people
think they should have. He's scum, and so is the party who loves him.
